Would stargrave be a good way to play a SG1 type game with a bit of skirmish and a bit of RPG elements? Or are there better options?
I figure all I need to play terrain wise is make a gate out of foam and buy some christmas village trees and I have a Canadian gravel pit ready to go

Stargrave could work, but I'd look into one of the Patrick Todoroff games, like Insurgent Earth, or Zona Alfa. Might also consider 5 Parsecs From Home.

5 Core Skirmish Essentials or Fist Full of Lead. Both are for pulp skimrish action with rpg elements with add-ons for various scifantasy bits as needed.

Just use the Stargate rpg

Would suggest you check out Veil Riders TTRPG. I had a friend make a Stargate/GATE setting from that and was fun.
