AFMBE had a bunch of dinosaur stats in a fan book and got right into the nitty gritty. If you want something more improv-friendly and light I'd say Mini Six could do it easy.

Honestly I have never even heard of AFMBE til you mentioned it, but I do love some crunch, but don't mind a bit of simplification at times. I've got a bit of experience with Savage Worlds, but was wondering if anything else was more suited to it before I went out of my way to start homebrewing and planning things out.

Savage Worlds is fairly well-suited to this sort of thing. AFMBE is more horror-focused and is quite lethal, be advised. Good system, though.
