I want to have a setting with guns... specifically from the periods of 1895 to 1945 (or somewhere in betweenThe problem is that I have it narrowed down to 2 time periods that'd work best for me...>The prohibition era (1933)PRO'S: It's just perfect in terms of where I want the technology to be, no sonar or jet enginesCON'S: Research material on military outfits from this time period is sparse if not non-existent >WW2 (1945)PRO'S: There's books detailing the outfits used by the various militaries of the time, this is perfect for helping me create factions and kingdoms as my plan is to combine metal armor (Silver, I'll explain later down the post) with Military outfits for a clean lookCON'S: The technology in this era is too far ahead, jet engines and sonar are the big two problems but I worry there may be more... note I still want some military vehicles in the setting OTHER DETAILS (If needed)The reason why stuff like plate, chain, scale ect is being worn is due to a big plot point I have planned... essentially once the atom bomb dropped the God of war died, and to keep him alive the gods did 1 of two things depending on the technology level of the setting, they either froze time to before the bomb gets tested (1945) or rewind time by about 12 years (1933)... then they decided to full the world with powerful magic, different sentiment species (elves and shit) and corrupted the wild life to male humanity have to fight together instead of against eachother against the were-plague... were creature's being unable to touch silver...I got inspired by Foxhole and Werewolf: The Apocalypse for this setting... it might need some homebrew but I'm fine with that
>>97678784Prohibition era with gang warfare gives a lot more options for adventures, mercs, government corruption, and general funAnd if we are talking PF type setting (multi races) WW2 (and arguably 1) doesnt make much sense
>>97678800Guess that settles itAny resources on what Military outfits looked like from 1920-1933? I know there was changes from WW1...
>>97678881>1920Interesting you mention that. That is exactly when the USA military became the three components (Army, Reserves, National Guard).Outfit was the typical Folded hat, green shirt type you see in roswell episodes of shows.
>>97678784>jet engines and sonar are the big two problemsJet engines saw very limited use in WW2. Pretty much nonexistent until the last couple years of the war. Sonar might be more of a problem, but unless you're planning on having extensive naval warfare I don't see how you expect it to be relevant. That said, if you're also having the case where the gods themselves decided to rewind time in order to avoid the atomic bomb, then you can pretty easily say that they rewound time by 50 years, meaning that if you set the game in the 1920s or later, you have a couple decades of divergence. If the pioneers of sonar suddenly become elves or the inventor of the first jet engine catches the were-plague, then you can pretty easily still have the year be 1945 without having all of the exact technology of 1945. Or the inverse, where some people got certain visions of the future and there's some fashion and tech from WW2 a decade early.
>>97679051>If the pioneers of sonar suddenly become elves or the inventor of the first jet engine catches the were-plague, then you can pretty easily still have the year be 1945 without having all of the exact technology of 1945You might be onto something... there was a plan to make the prohibition laws extended due to magic potions that functioned like spell scrolls but I'm gonna explore this as well... let me do some research on who made sonar and the Heinkel He 178...
>>97679088Shit...OK, that's alot of points of divergence and submarines could be cool... would sonar be a big issue if magic exists? There are still were-sharks and were-aligators...As for jet craft that ones close enough to 1940 to work... just have the gods punish Sir Frank Whittle, Hans von Ohain, Ernst Heinkel and Secondo Campini somehow...
>>97679106Forgot piceel
>>97679106*Close enough to 1945I'm extra retarded today I guess
>>97679110Here's an idea, homebrew spellsLike Phantom Steed but for vehicles and a spell version of sonar... that might actually work...
>>97679106>>97679110I'll be honest, I don't see how Sonar would be a big issue regardless. If the campaign is focused on the PCs tracking down were-creatures in prohibition-era cities, then sonar isn't really relevant to what they're doing. I guess the question is what you're worried that sonar does that you feel like you'd struggle to account for? Also, you could probably pin the year at 1940 if you didn't want things at the very end of the war. That pushes jet fighters even further away from being practical, gets you closer to prohibition era, and still remains accurate in terms of all of the historical info on uniforms.
For 1920's resources on outfits and gear. Call of Cthulhu is set in that era. Any Pulp game can be used for source material as well. For 1945 there are tons of sourcebooks out there for WW2.If you're looking for just military stuff Osprey has put out hundreds of books on both World Wars
>>97678784>Research material on military outfits from this time period is sparse if not non-existentThere are multiple Osprey books that cover the interwar period for various conflicts and regions. William K. Emerson's Encyclopedia of United States Army Insignia and Uniforms if you mean the US specifically, though I'm sure similar publications exist for other countries. What were you struggling with finding references for exactly?
>>97679209>what you're worried that sonar does that you feel like you'd struggle to account for?Makes divination spells redundant I'm worried with sonar people would be able to do what alot of Divination spells already do...>>97679312Picrel is similar to what I'm looking for, I'll check out the stuff you sent though
>>97679500Fucks sake wrong picrel
>>97679500>Makes divination spells redundant>I'm worried with sonar people would be able to do what alot of Divination spells already do...Well, for starters, Sonar only really does anything underwater. So that's already a pretty niche application. If you mean Radar, that was a later development than Sonar, so it's again flexible if you need to push it back a few years. But even Radar itself is also only really useful for larger airborne objects as well. Unless the PCs need to track down a submarine or an aircraft, neither is particularly useful. And even assuming the PCs are in that situation, casting a divination spell is going to be simpler than going and finding a Radar station to ask them to use their Radar on the PC's behalf. And of course, even assuming that Radar/Sonar is strictly better than magic in those cases, Divination still wins out in any situation where the PCs are searching for a car, a person, or a small object. All far more likely targets if they're in a big city dealing with gangs and werewolves.I sincerely would not worry about it.
>>97678784>PathfinderSince when has that corporate garbage been historically accurate?>I want to have a setting with gunsThen put guns in your setting. Pathfinder is fantasy.>The problem is that I have it narrowed down to 2 time periodsLiterally not a problem.>PRO'SWhat do the "pros" possess in these instances?>CON'SWhat do the "cons" possess in these instances?>scale ectI don't know what that is, and neither does anyone else. If you meant to end your list with "et cetera", it would have been "plate, chain, scale, etc".You should probably focus more on looking less like an illiterate faggot, than your retarded /his/fag bullshit fanfiction.
>>97678784Start by not using slop, you're only hurting yourself.
