What's the verdict? Is it a cool alternative to dnd?
>>97681857Yeah, it's a lot of fun, although it's going to be different than d&d, you start a lot weaker and end powerful, but not as powerful as a high level d&d character. Also, the game assumes horror fantasy, and has some mechanics baked in towards that end. Shadow of the Weird Wizard is the more "classic fantasy" version.

An alternative, but weaker overall in my eyes.5e has better mechanics, and also avoids some of the more edgelord stuff. It would have had to been significantly better both in regards to mechanics and flavor in order to try and get over the "everyone plays it" benefits that 5e has.My big gripe is the Rated M for Mature business is not done tastefully. I'm not exactly squeemish or prudish, but when there's succubi scrying through cum pools, I have to ask if that's really necessary.

I run this game as a GM, * Faster combat,* More choices for players (built in multiclassing)* Spell traditions are more thematic (necromancers get animated corpses at 1st level rather than having to wait)* Evil dead humor, spells that can make your skeleton jump out of your body if it kills you,* Corruption (anti murder hobo mechanic)* werewolves, ghosts, vampires, ghouls, as race options.* random tables galore, especially for the demons of the setting who have truly bizarre forms.I would say if you took DnD, Warhammer, The OSR and blended them with fake blood you have some idea of how SotDL is as a setting/game.> The spell that makes your enemy shit themselves is only half as fun as the one that makes their dick fall off.>
