A thread to talk about Games Workshop's specialist and spin-off games which fall between the cracks.
Battlefleet Gothic, Blood Bowl, Epic, K*ll Team, Man-o-War, Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game, Mordheim,
Necromunda, Shadow War: Armageddon, Titanicus, Underworlds, Warcry, Warhammer Quest, Warmaster...

Speaking of which. I will be fighting Aragorn (Strider) today. Does anyone have any tips? I am relatively new and my opponent will be playing Defenders of Helms Deep with Theoden, Haldir and Aragorn. His troops will be a mix of Rohan warriors and Elves.

I won't lie Aragorn kind of intimidates me as ive never faced him before. Attached is my list.

Necromunda. I am a complete Necromunda fanboy. I do like Kill Team as well, but I suck at it.

Kill Team lads, do many of you make your own terrain? Or do you mostly stick with the official terrain sets?

Hey guys, looking for the mesbg match play book. Does anyone have the goods?
>>

>make your own terrain? Or
Mix of both. Many teams where only available with terrain at the start so it is "If you already have it why not use it" but we still make our own terrain becasue using only official terrain is to boring. Sadly just because the rounds are so limited and how cover works, you cannot use to much/complex terrain because you would not be able to meet your opponent then or shoot at all.
Also i always wanted to play necromunda but no one wants to play it becasue "it is to complicated".

Hello gentlemen, Guard Newbfag Anon here. Mentioned about 2 weeks ago that I am starting Blood Bowl at my work with one of the disabled fellas I care for that LOVES football. I have been going over the rules with him and so far, he's been having a bit of trouble breaking his mind out of the rules of irl gridiron and accessing the abstracts of Blood Bowl, but I have faith that he will get it with continued exposure and encouragement.
I spoke to some of the upper management to see if we can't get some sort of budget set aside for him to pick out his own team to choose from for me to put together for him to paint at the table (he's still tarded so sprue cutter/xacto/glue is out of the question).
Also got some Spike! Journal and Almanac issues ordered because I have really enjoyed reading the battle reports for Blood Bowl in White Dwarf.

Desu.

Resin has more details yes, no it can not do multicolor in a controlled way in one part. Filament printers are usually easier to use and maintain, cheaper and better for bigger things like terrain. But using multicolor for prints (especially models) is .... let's say useless.

Love Necromunda for the crunch, the narrative of it
Love Warcry because it's quick, simple yet strategic and can have 3 games in a session

Depends on your needs. If you want mini-level detail you realistically need resin, but if you want terrain id go fdm, the detail is good enough and its durable to the point where you can literally throw your pieces into a box and nothing will chip or scratch

So far no, I've been using GW terrain (though not the KT-specific stuff, just general GW terrain) for everything up until now with one small exception being a crater I made at the end of last year. I've been looking at making custom terrain more though, because I think I could make more appropriate terrain than what I can get from GW at this point. Just need to finish my current projects and find some source of plasticard.

if you replace the streets and cars with rubble that board becomes possibly the best necromunda piece ive ever seen.
Usually the more complex boards focus on a central tower structure, or are a series of platforms on one or two walls, which while fun, are not good representations of the underhive as described.
This board, minus the cars and streets of course, has a good mix of broken infrastructure and improvised "trash" that matches descriptions of collapsed domes, an uneven rubble "ground" would make it perfect. I especially like the way that larger tower structure is topped off with mismatched internal piping, really sells the broken infrastructure look rather than appearing to be a cutaway abstracted for tabletop.

Haven't played Kill Team in several years, not since the end of KT21. /ktg/ appears to be dead (inshallah), so I guess I'll ask here. Is there much to learn for KT24? Can I basically just read my team's rules and the core stuff is all the same?
>>
>>97693194
KT24 is very similar, but that's also to some detriment since some rules that look similar on the surface are subtly different. Vantage points, for example, just always give cover from people below you now.

there are an absolute shitload of free stls out there, just search for "fleet" on most printing aggregators. There's also a BF:G "starter kit" out there that you can find with minimal googling. My dude there were entire battleship squadrons in the handful of naval brawls large enough for that to be a thing. Keep in mind that comms was limited to line-of-sight for a very long time. Even after wireless sets were cheap enough to be useful, they still couldn't reliably coordinate maneuvers and ranging without some kind of visual confirmation for decades. Doctrine struggled to keep up with the new technology and everyone being broke-ass motherfuckers still putting 40-year-old hoopties to sea in the 1930s.

Wrong with current kill team is:
-Teambuilding or equipment is nearly not available, it is mostly just a blueprint with (if at all) small things to tweak at most.
-Some of the rules (mostly cover and line of sight) are more hideous and complicated then they need to be and if you play them as written can suck a lot.
-the game is mostly meant for fast quick competitive play, that draws a lot of toxic competitive players. (also makes any narrative play an unofficial homebrew)
well that are the major big 3 flaws. many complain about rulesbloat and team rotation. Team rotation is part of the "blueprint team design shit" and rulesbloat kinda as well but also not THAT bad if i really compare it with other games and if you are not someone that really needs to know every team (you will not encounter most teams anyway) and i think necromunda or 40k has similar rulesbloat.
>>
>>97696704
Inarguably, the new version is made for mouth breathers that can't measure so they need shapes to represent units of movement, and who can't list build so they need prebuilt forces.
The original version was the best, it wasn't a standalone product or anything it was just a nifty rules guide that could be applied to any edition of 40k you prefer allowing you to take models as individuals rather than squads, meant to be built at low point values.
That's all kill team ever needed to be, a simple way to take troops one at a time instead of in groups of 5 with absolutely no troop requirements or contingency requirements.
want a centurion sergeant, a single sternguard space marine, 2 scouts and a terminator? go ahead, they're Your Dudes.
>>
>>97696805

It lacks listbuilding, and some rules get abused by a waacfag opponent. If you play among decent people/friends, the second isn't an issue, and the former is a shame but usually seen as a fair tradeoff for the gameplay improvement by a majority of players.

Is LOTR Middle Earth: Strategy Battle Game the most LOLFAIL product GW has ever put out? I have never seen anyone talking about this game besides occasionally using the terrain for battle boards. How the fuck is the Fellowship a made-to-order limited run only product, at nearly $90?
>>
>>97697270
It was part of the 40k 4th edition core rulebook IIRC, it was the first because it was called Kill Team, but also it allowed you to ick and choose individual models from /almost/ any unit type, anything with 3 or more wounds was excluded, bikes and jetbikes werent permitted as wargear and no psykers IIRC, you also had to pick all your units from one codex, though I'm sure any reasonable playgroup would be fine with mixing allied forces.
>>
>>97697635
There was a precursor called "40k in 40 miutes" that was a white dwarf article about single squad vs single squad games that would eventually be revived as combat patrol, and the 4th edition 40k Kill Team did get addendums in a few white dwarf articles >>97697042 picrelated being one of them
>>
>>97697270
>>97697164
I'm talking about combat patrol and kill team from 4th edition rulebook
As you can see in the 4th edition table of content.
Heralds of Ruins was a fan made thing that basically took elements from things like >>97697042 and the old Combat Patrol and Kill Team rules to make something similar to Necromunda and Shadow War Armageddon
>>

The original release in 2001 was massive, actually. It was a flagship product for half a decade, with White Dwarfs from the time being often 50-70% MESBG features.

It then petered out, joining other specialist games. They tried a relaunch in 2012 with the hobbit movies, but it didn't gain much traction. The movies being shit didn't help either.

Then in 2018 out of the blue they released a new edition, which was actually very good. It got some momentum going, and we even had dedicated generals for awhile here too.

But then in late 2024 they pushed out an unneeded new edition with the usual nu-GW chicanery of model-restricted loadouts and such, and the game has been on a decline since then.

So definitely not a LOLFAIL, but a giant killed by GW mismanagement.

>Then in 2018 out of the blue they released a new edition, which was actually very good. It got some momentum going, and we even had dedicated generals for awhile here too.
It was so wild to have a sanctioned MESBG leaker here. I wonder if GW was testing if 4chan is a valid digital space for controlled leaks or was it just a random employee sharing PDFs and future releases with us just for fun.

In BFG, how viable is it to play a Demiurg fleet? I see them tucked away in the Xenos fleet roster but as I have no real BFG experience I don't know what they're good at or what their issues are.
I see 3 hulls, a lot of launch assets and what looks like a lot of firepower. Is that enough to play them as a full faction?

Their capital ships are fairly tough. The amount of them you have to take to get access to a decent amount of escorts could be an issue though. However you've got a lot of launch bays to use attack craft to knock down other ordnance.

How you should be thinking however is 'i want to play a demiurg fleet' and leave it at that. My chaos fleet is as many escorts as I can cram in. It's not viable....but it's a lot of fun.

Here...have my space hulk.

>Opinions on the Firestorm? It was my go-to escort in the armada games but any time I use it on the table I'd really rather have a Dauntless
Splashing one or two into a Sword squadron is a great way to soak up a few extra roster points. They're basically dedicated ship-hunters, not so great against other Escorts. If you're planning to punch a big squadron out on the flanks to bootyblast an enemy capital ship they can definitely get work done on Lock On. Also depends on opponent - they're one of your few usable tools against Necron escorts and Demiurg but with Elves and to a lesser extent Orks or Tau they're basically wasted points.
Falchions are similarly good for splashing one or two into a squadron of Swords or Cobras. You can use the single torpedo tube to pop incoming torpedo waves (or intercept enemy CAP defense to let your Cobra's torps through) and strip the fighters off of enemy bombing waves. They also have a 50-50 chance of making Thunderhawk waves go away. Problem is you basically have to Reserve them anywhere but Armageddon, and Armageddon has access to the Marine escorts for similar prices.

You're thinking about this like a player, not a marketing executive. You'll never push plastic with that attitude.
>>
>>97711080
the business model of selling miniatures is dying, the future is home production and sellig of STL's, but only if STL creators figure out that their digital works can't be sold for the same price as physical products, which they seem to be quite unclear on (hence the piracy community flourishing) if they don't the future will be freely shared STL's in a community that does it for love of it, though that model will be slower.
Too many gamers have been opened to the reality of material costs and will never again spend $80 on $5 worth of material, miniature companies sell plastic literally at the same weight value as fucking silver.
>>
These goblins are in perfect blood bowl pose
>>
>>97711213
You can get 20 models for 45 with a bunch of weapon, heads, gear and random shots as options. (This is on the expensive side mind you)
Versus gw 10 models for 40.
Both in plastic and I'm looking at space Nam models versus catachan models.
Add 3D printing to it and it's just insane how much GW charge for their shit

A) OSL does not wrap around corners
B) trying to sell a "negative" glow requires you to paint the model normally and only try this on the tail

Silly question: I know necromunda has genestealers but... Are There poxwalkers?
Asking cause i would like to custome some poxwalkers to make them look like the ones at darktide.

A friend of mine recently got the cawdor gang to custome them as a "zealot" gang and i though it would be fun to get poxwalkers for a custome campaign kek
>>
>>97768180
There are no official rules for poxwalkers but the neat part about necromunda is who, who cares. They could count as zombies/infected. Or just basic models of a Helot Chaos Cult Gang. Or any other gang that fell to chaos.
>>
>>97768180
>>97768213
To add to that you could also use ash waste nomads or other models to add models from the cult of admonition to that to get a more proper gang and add more to the projekt.

I think a TL;DR is
>lord helwmar gets assassinated
>planet goes into a succession crisis
>multiple things happen with lady credo, haera helwmar, prophet of redemption etc
>eventually pic related shows up
>he's from some ancient long dead house or something
>takes over necromunda
>imperial fists tell haera and her brother that they have 100 days to get the throne back under house helmwar's control otherwise they'll deem the planet as in active rebellion (as they're not paying any tithes during this crisis)
> turns out lord helwmar didn't die and kal jerico has his body in a stasis casket
>>
>>97772810
That's... underwhelming
>>
>>97772126
>what happened with that?
Nothing happen, Helmawr was "dead", but then he returned and continue to rule Necromunda like nothing ever happen.

The only things that happen is that writer's waifu OC Haera aka the bestest gurl eva' has saved the day, saved the planet, defeated the bad guys, even acquired the legendary limited edition super spyrer suit that's tailored made for her and sit waiting inside Secundus for grab!!!!!!! And she's the equivalent of an Idol in real life, where her legion of fans (which included the writers) thrown themselves to protect her and handed her free shits (like plot armor and the spyrer suits)
>>
>>97730429
TLDR: Yes, but you have to not give a *single* fuck and play aggro.

The 2010 and 2002 FAQs both changed which Ork ships are the "best". 2002 was the badly-needed Carrier Nerf that imposed launch caps. It also gave Orks the option for 60mm bases on kroozers for easier boarding and some anti-Nova capability, in exchange for being a much easier ordnance target). 2010 made Escorts only pop on a 4+ instead of a 2+ when you hit them with boarding torps and Assault boats, so Orks have to rely more on their guns to deal with enemy escorts but theirs get tougher. Your firing arcs suck, Heavy Gunz are dogshit 99% of the time, and some days you just roll badly. Orks are surprisingly mobile, but hard to coordinate and extremely vulnerable from the rear. They also have absolutely brootal boarding
Squadroning is extremely important for Ork cap ships, they have serious LD problems and need to pool firepower to avoid their allies' blast markers. The Clans list is the one that actually has all the options, the other two are sort of relics of the development process.

With that out of the way:
>Roks
Neat and easy to make with garbage, some support firepower. Melt instantly if anything looks at them sideways
>Hulks
Deadly as shit, your only real long-range support option, they still don't last long if a few battery ships get into range. Can only be played in 1500+ point games, so not for Raider forces
>Battlekroozers
Mixed bag, they all kinda play to different fleet compositions. Making your own 'Ammer is still a very good idea, especially with Looted Lances (a Clan upgrade)
>Kroozers
Terror ships are slightly better as escort support, both are okay
>Lite Kroozers
Are nearly as good as a Dauntless. Same general mission. Get a couple, remember to disengage when they get shot up. Klanz only
>Escorts
Are insanely dangerous, especially Brutes/Grunts. You also get free LD and extra ships if you have enough ships per squadron, and Orks can squadron up to 10 ships
>>
>>97695967
If you can’t score with gnomes you are absolutely retarded, foxes make scoring stupid easy. So I assume you suck at defense.

Keep the trees central and don’t move them to avoid rooting. Screen with the gnomes to prevent your opponent from breaking through. They will pick one side to avoid the trees. Keep screening hard and start to work the trees to their flank. You saved your RRs to keep them from rooting and doing a couple GFIs to close distance. Crush them into the sideline. Turn 8 you can try the guard+cage dive shenanigans but you shouldn’t need it.

I've been saying this for years. 40k is a setting where stories happen.
GW tries to move the story forward and they notice they would no longer have 40k and quickly return to the statues quo in some shape or form.
Why they keep doing this? No idea, since the fucking setting has 10k years worth of stories that can be told. WW2 lasted like 6 years and we still haven't run out of stories and spinoff stories to tell, but some how 40k need to push the story because 10k years is not enough! and as result we end with this underwhelming stories were nothing happens.
>>
>>97780039
WW2 keeps going in (((media))) for revisionist propaganda reasons, every time a particular battle gets a new movie or documentaey, changes are made.
If you look at documents from people who were major figures in the war like Patton's journals or the gigantic 5 volume memoir by Churchill you won't find a lot of shit we're "taught" (indoctrinated) in school, like ANY mention of a holocaust.

GW will never touch BFG. Because the model count per game match is lower than any otherspecial game they have. Now factor in that most fans already have their ships. So the miniature selling is very low.

Necromunda and Underworlds arw a different beast.
1st: The minis are compatible with 40k/Fantasy
2nd: You get more character or hero feeling with different powers and with Necromunda more options to build a mini and maybe buy more.
3rd: You collect some additional teams or groups. Not just one army.
Thats why GW can keep them around.

Love Warcry but would like some more terrain sets.
Are there any good sets that can be 3D printed that any of you have used that are fun to play on?

Ideally a different vibe to what exists, like non ruined buildings, ancient ruins etc would be cool

Not really, no. An Escher upgrade sprue? Another rando Elves warband for UW? Even MESBG got new Rohirrim. Don't make me laugh. Those games sell like ass compared to the mainline games. However, it's not just about sales for GW, they want players in their ecosystem, maybe they'll give the big games a try if they are exposed to them long enough.
Reanimating stuff like BFG or perhaps Mordheim would add another piece of the tabletop miniatures pie to their portfolio. Also what >>97788781 posted, it's only a matter of time. The new Spearhead set might be them testing the waters for Mordheim.

Heavily doubt it. Mordheims Mordheim. The closest they got to it was, and likely ever will, is with Warcry.

Everything sells like ass compared to 40k. Even AoS sells like ass compared to 40k.
I think more that 40k or Fantasy/AoS players buy the other games to get special minis for their army.
Spearhead and all other similar games are a variation of Space Hulk and Mordheim.

>How does the dominion battlecruiser play like?
Nobody really uses it because it's Bakka-only and it's competing with three other, better battlecruisers. That said squadding one up with an Armageddon in a big game is fucking horrifying, on Lock On they can routinely hulk a cruiser from 45cm and delete entire escort squadrons. It's 500 points, tbf, but still scary as shit.

>>
>>97803515
No one who likes KT21 dislikes KT24 I'm fairly certain
But mostly there's just a lot of hate for KT in general, probably either because it's closer to mainline 40k than most specialist games or because it's still the new kid on the block if I were to guess

>No one who likes KT21 dislikes KT24 I'm fairly certain But mostly there's just a lot of hate for KT in general
true but the rest is rather meh. in short it dissapointed everyone that liked listbuilding and with the newer handholding and competitive focus (and shitty cover rules for anyone that takes them too serious) it created a rather toxic community. the hype piped down so the community is not THAT bad anymore but the hate still remains.

Look like girl boss imperium wanker fiction to me.

Look like the same fuckers that did animation for Kill Lupercal. A story about one of the worst Titan Princep (also a girlboss) i've ever seen. She shown her absolute brilliant mind in the trailer by firing her Macro-Gatling Blaster full tilt at a group of ground marines, because of course, Gatling Blaster, known for being extremely limited in ammunitions, are the right weapon for that scenario. Not the vulcan bolter that also happen to be armed on that titan. It's the last titan on Terra and my princep is a retard, the animators are retards, we're absolutely fucked.

Also GW wrote some wanker shit for new AI with Taros 2.0, Imperium kicked Tau's ass and took back Taros!!!!! OMG!!!!
>>
>>97803515
KT21/24's removal of meaningful list-building turned a lot of people off from the game and the designers hyper-focus on making the game appeal to tourneyfag types has over the years cultivated an extremely rabid fanbase who blindly screech any time anything negative is brought up about the game. Go on and say you think it would be cool if we could mix and match units and wargear in the KT thread. See how many responses you get seething about the mere existence of KT18 and how having to follow cookie-cutter builds prescribed by GW rather than getting to customize and tailor your team to represent /yourdudes/ mechanically makes the game far superior, actually.
>>
>>97803961
I like kt21. So is it just the same complaints about 24? Cause yah list building was cool, but the game is what matters most and it plays well.
>>
>>97804006
no, thats not what matters most.
if i say we are changing basketball to just a single coin flip to determine the winner, thats a better game. more fair, less injuries, less chance of rigging. Does this make it a better game?
Fundamentally changing the nature of a game makes it worse at being that game. KT18 was about /your/ elite squad. GW would prefer a board game or chess, where the newest squad is the best so you keep buying and it can be perfectly fair for tournaments. You can say you prefer the gameplay, but its a worse kill team
>>
>>97694742
I actually measured one today for a friend asking the same thing; it's not in millimetres but it was almost exactly 4 inches long from prow to rear stern.

A very respectful lengthm let noone tell you different
>>
>>97804006
>So is it just the same complaints about 24?
In broad strokes the core rules stayed the same between KT21/24 but I'll give you the TL;DR about the changes
>Pros
- made the cover mechanics less obnoxious
- removed the shape measurement nonsense
- added co-op rules
>Cons
- removed the compendium, it's now "bespoke" teams only
- made planned obsolescence a codified part of the game, the oldest teams are rotated out of support/sale and after a certain grace period are not allowed at events
- removed campaign play entirely
- balance changes have made marine teams king for basically the whole edition so far

If you liked the previous version you'll still probably like the new one, it was basically a refinement of the existing rules. The edition changeover just didn't do anything to address many peoples problems with KT21, so the same complaints persist. >>97804170 alludes to the issue; KT as a concept has existed for a couple decades now and the last couple iterations of KT don't really capture that concept - KT21/24 are better games than KT18, but they're "kill team" games in name only.

I mean older Fallout humanity was rebuilding already and shit like bottlecaps was just a stopgap before proper currency was could be made. By the time of the events 4 happen bottlecaps should not be in use and more of the wasteland should have been rebuild or at least some explanation why the fuck this guys are still stuck.
