The release schedule for D&D 5.5E in 2026 in looking like:
>two Ravenloft books about horror
>Arcane magic splat
>Red Wizards adventure
>Surprise thing in September which might be Dark Sun 5.5E
>all niche splats and settings
This is really starting to feel like the edition end-days of TSR or 3.5E, when there wasn't that much left to print and the publisher had already decided to make a new edition.

So, D&D 6E in 2027?

Who gives a shit?

I thought we already knew they were working on 6e, idk if it comes next year but they're making it now. 2024 wasn't favorably received, frankly I don't think they should have did it.

WotC went on record for account physical releases for most content in an investor meeting recently. If the release schedule slows down when they don't even need to print and ship stuff anymore, that's pretty damning.

>New edition
Doubt they will do something like that until they figure out how to lock everything behind a micro transaction paywall of some sort.

Tone down the slavery, ramp-up ecological alarmism, and modern DnD audience will lap it up.
>>

>>two Ravenloft books about horror
The Horror Within and what else?
>>

The ecological parts of Dark Sun had to do with magic itself harming the environment, and most classes use some form of magic. Modern players generally don't want to be forced to do something evil (even if it is in a moral dilemma scenario), and also dislike systems where magic has consequences as opposed to just being western jutsus.

Why would this matter?
Anyone who finds D&D lacking is told to rewrite what they don't like, and D&D is the world's greatest TTRPG because of the good things good DMs do for their good groups not written in the rules and has no responsibility for any of the bad things that similarly aren't written in the rules, so everyone should already have their ideal system in use.

This is the Oberoni fallacy - just because a GM can make more or less any game fun doesn't excuse underlying issues with the games rules.
>>
>>97689240
Just redo 4E DS. It’s got the same themes and the same races.
>>
>>97689157
Yeah, WotC releases almost nothing nowadays; that's a normal release schedule for 5e. 2022 was:
>MPMM
>A starter set
>Spelljammer
>Radiant Citadel (bunch of adventures)
>Call of the Netherdeep (CR adventure)
>Shadow of the Dragon Queen (Dragonlance adventure)
>>

Thank you for describing the problem back at me, but that wasn't the point.
Everyone who uses 5e operates on that fallacy, so there's no reason why they need to buy another product, especially a product that has exact to similar issues as its previous iteration.
I'll say it again; they already have a system that suits their tastes, so there's no need for them to buy effectively the same thing again.

No wonder DnD is dead n' done.

Is Szass Tamm really black?

Have you tried not playing D&Dogshit?

Current Year Ravenloft was bad enough.

DOES ANYONE IN THIS ENTIRE THREAD ACTUALLY PLAY 5.5E?
>>
>>97692465
No. I already disliked the stuff they released 2020+, the OGL debacle was the final straw.

I think as a general rule of thumb people tand to stick with the edition of game they invested on, for me it's picrel when i need to run "D&D", the vast majority here probably are content with 5.0e, it fulfill their need when they want to put D&D on the table, no need to re-buy/re-learn a game you already own. Compulsive updooters are a niche.
>>
>>97692465
We have a game on hiatus right now, because our d&d GM wanted to play it. But I don't know if we're going back, he expressed some frustration to me about d&d and what running it is like, and he wants to run some CoC next.

If I had the choice I wouldn't go back to d&d, I think it's boring.
>>
>>97692465
No, I have my physical 5e book and I don't see why buy another for so little difference
>>
I'm happy the birthright setting is dead because now (unlike all other dnd settings) it won't get butchered by wotc
Plus none of the nudnd audience likes or cares about the setting
I remember going to some forum (enworld I think ) and they were talking about how birthright was "fascist" because it had themes of divine blood (even though that's monarchism not fascism but I doubt those troons know any better)

>Current Year Ravenloft
>>97692339
Yeah 5e Ravenloft is an utter bastardization of the OG Ravenloft.
>>
Why are we getting ravenloft stuff when we got the van richten guide
What could they possibly feel the need to add?
>>
>>97692465
I do. It fixed alot of little things with 5e that needed fixing (though it did fuck some other stuff up).

Shouldn't have been a full fledged new edition though. That's straight bullshit and corporate greed.
>>
>>97692465
My DM doesn't allow it but it looks like the only reason for that is because he doesn't want to bother reading through 5.5E's changes
I think some spells and classes might be better but that's my opinion
>>
>>97692465
No, it was mostly just shit.

(They did have some good sub-classes, and change some mistakes they made in 5e. However, fixing a small mistake that a common house rule would solve isn't worth making a .5 especially when it one step forward and 5 steps back.)
