Where do I start with Cyberpunk? I heard 2020 was better than Red, and the movie Bladerunner, and book Neuromancer are proper resources to pull from.

>Where do I start with Cyberpunk?
With whatever looks the coolest to you.
>I heard 2020 was better than Red
You heard wrong. One is as good as the other, but they are both very different games. They both have their differing bright spots and spots that are utterly shitty unless you houserule them out.
>and the movie Bladerunner
It's genuinely what kicked off the Cyberpunk popularity because it provided the main aesthetic for it, and let's face it: Cyberpunk is mainly aesthetic.
>and book Neuromancer are proper resources to pull from.
Neuromancer is a purely optional read. I found it a confusing mess that leaned way too heavily on its purple prose but often meandered way too much on shit that ultimately didn't matter to the main plot of the story at hand.

There's an entire thread of people talking about it right now >>97649961
And Neuromancer is good, but Cyberpunk has more of the vibe of When Gravity Fails and Hardwired, two excellent books you should read. Neuromancer is good too, though, as are the other books in his first and second trilogies.

You thought Neuromancer was confusing? Jesus the illiteracy epidemic is a real problem.

No, I'm just not afraid to admit when a book is shitty no matter how many fanboys like it based purely on how smart it makes them think they are instead of any kind of artistic merit of the story itself.

>E-everyone doesn't actually like the book, they just think it makes them look smart!

When were you diagnosed with Autism, anon?

>too fucking retarded for neuromancer

It depends, 2020 is far more crunchy with more material and nuance, but hacking is dogshit compared to Red and Red's role abilities are better. Also a lot of things in Red's setting are strange because it's a post-post-apocalypse, the city is mostly recovered from being nuked but it's still affecting a lot of things.

This is also something that is very back and forth in the material, and it seems like the upcoming night city book is either rolling back or at least really defining what this actually means.

Literally all that means is not everything is recovering at the same rate. Which is a non-issue.

It's obvious from reading what's been published already that the people writing the game all have varying ideas about exactly how "post apocalypse" Night City actually is, and the high res maps we have now as opposed to the (honestly, pretty bad) neighborhood map in the core book make the "hot zone" look a lot less massive.

I completely agree. But it's still not really a problem. Not everything is recovering at the same rate. That by itself explains and justifies every inconsistency. Even if that's not what they intended...so what? It still works as an explanation anyway.

It wasn't particularly confusing, but the Seinfeld effect hits it pretty hard. It's not that interesting in premise nowadays when so many things have been built ontop of its shoulders.
