Perhaps what intimidates you isn't the thought of fighting, but of fighting other humans. In warfare, soldiers often struggle to shoot to kill instead of firing over the enemies' heads.
If you were legally permitted to kill crack heads on sight, I think the prospect would be a lot more appealing
