>>97722345Depends on era and role
Question for the thread: what do you do with your excess or unwanted 'mechs? My system is I bring a bag of several of them, particularly ones I might be fielding just unpainted, to pick-up games at my LGS; if I lose, the winner picks a 'mech from the bag to take as spoils/salvage.
>>97722378Have a noob interested in BT run a tutorial mission covering the basics with a mech, and 'award' him that mech at the end.
How many times have the Clans invaded a world that they weren't prepared to take?
>>97722378I've used some as filler for OC schemes as mercs or pirates, others as filler for factions that either already have that mech or could salvage it easily. As a category, clan mechs are actually piling up the most because I just don't use clantech in my IS forces despite almost never playing before the invasion era and also don't have a clan force.
>>97722445Three times? Twycross, Wolcott, and Tukayyid
>>97722446>and also don't have a clan forceI solved that by planning on filling a Keshik's worth of force org over time, I still have a ways to go before it's done. Once it's ready, I can commit the unit to long campaigns.

I don't normally go for the AI slop but some of these touch ups have been pretty decent. Battletech also needs way more hairspray.

>>97722922I like most of his stuff, but the way he draws mechs is a bit silly. It's like his head is still stuck in the 50s when it comes to what robots should look like. It isn't necessarily a bad thing on its own, but it kinda clashes with the grittier 70s sci-fi film/80s anime aesthetics BattleTech has been built on since the beginning.
>>97722941You can't blame Vallejo for that one, it seems like he's just following the wonky scale from the first illustration.

>>97724564kind of surprised that wasnt a thing honestly.old lore clans were (even more) nuts.
>>97724805They are, but they're also obsessed with gene purity. The scientists have basically been lying to the warriors the entire time, but the warriors insist that all of their gene lines are pure human, made only through eugenics enhanced by picking and choosing exact gene expressions through the generations. The scientists have been doing a lot more than that, or course, but they always have plausible deniability. The society and dark caste don't have that hangup though, and the so-called "gene caste" is a persistent conspiracy theory because they're impossible to disprove (being spliced up transhumans who use their uninhibited genetic enhancements to deliberately move into spaces the clanners aren't equipped to go, like the bottom of oceans, or on volcanic worlds that aren't worth trying to land on).

Canopus has long been confirmed to have cybernetics that allow it with rare bio-augmentation to create them. The Belters of the Sol System have been confirmed to have fully bioengineered subspecies in a recent book where Clan Wolf got attacked by catpeople from there. They likely have a wide variety of other species as well that have been hidden for a long time.So you can add hiding real catgirls from the Inner Sphere to the list of Comstar's crimes from them shutting down access to Sol.
>>97726012I know what an Uma is, the issue is why even be part horse at that point? It's going to be damned hard to get a stock humanoid up to 40 mph just by giving it hooves. And they kind of already did Centaurs anyways.

I've been grinding through a rules packet for my local to run chaos campaign games and I have a wild question: If you could take 'Mechs with the Compact 'Mech quirk to double the number of 'Mechs you could take on a Track (with the same BV limits) would you do it? As a reminder Scale 1 is 3000 BV, so if you wanted to take 4 mechs this way they'd have to be all 750 BV or less. We're tentatively looking at FCCW, so literally your only option would be 4 Locusts. Are there any other 'Mechs you think deserve the Compact 'Mech quirk given that kind of houserule? Any 'Mechs that ABSOLUTELY SHOULDN'T be allowed to pull that kind of bullshit?
>>97726596
>>97727305As an addendum you wouldn't be required to take all Compacts, you could take, for example, two Locusts and something else at Scale 1.
>>97727305The only one that even exists in FCCW is the Locust, which isn't exactly a powerhouse. The Jackalope is basically an alternative to the Spider/Venom, and the Sarath is a nasty PPC brawling omnimech, but they're both 60+ years after crazy Kat does her thing.
>>97727305>Locust LegionsA PLAUGE UPON YOUR HOUSE!
>>97727326Yeah that's why I'm asking if any others seem like they'd deserve the spot. Including special rules for it seems a bit silly if it's the only one that gets it.There is naturally a balance factor to it, in that if you're taking more compact mechs your individual BV per mech is getting super tight. I've also got frontloaded initiative on the docket, so if you're not careful you'd be marching them off to die pretty easy.I'm also trying to figure out if I can make rules for Distracting that won't require Morale checks; something like forcing enemies to shoot at it depending on their skill level (like, Green Mechwarriors have to shoot it as their Primary Target with their biggest damage gun in range, Regular Mechwarriors have to shoot it as their Primary Target and Vets/Elites have to shoot at least one gun at it if it's in range.)I might just be overcomplicating things, but I've got a nasty cold so I've got all the time in the world to play with rules.

Tried out the Viking for the first time tonight. Took the WoB version and then babysat it with a Light SRM Carrier. Linked it in a C3i network to a Preta. Probably didn't need the bodyguard truck given the fact the Viking-3W has four (4) MML9s and two Streak SRM2s. But on the other hand, anything that got between them would have been double fucked, and I'm kind of disappointed the OpFor didn't accept my invitation to an SRM sandwich. OpFor managed to jam my network only about a third of the game, so the VIking was putting out the hurt with great to-hit numbers most of the game. And as always the Warhammer 9S with its 20 DHS brought the thunder. I fucking love that variant. I think I'm getting the hang of Battle Armor. The Preta dropped a squad in heavy woods between the OpFor brawlers and my skirmish line. He got excited and brought his Starslayer in to get behind my lines, but I drew back my skirmish line enough to focus it down. I ammo binned a Griffin IIRC, and took the head off an enemy Thunderbolt with my own Thunderbolt. More or less. The details are already fuzzy but that sounds about right. He had an Avatar that was alternating between dueling my Viking and trying to knockout my Warhammer. I put some damage on it early and it sat at range in some woods with the ECM equipped Wasp after that mostly. The Preta Dominus is nice. A 6/9/8 omni with IIJs, 4 ERMLs, a TarComp, and exactly enough heat sinks to use all of that every turn AND carry my BA to where it needed to be. Definitely one to remember.I fucking love Battletech, guys, seriously.
>>97727294Better. Now give her a lore compliant neurohelment instead of generic Titanfall slop, and a boob window. Or sideboob cutouts. Some part of her tits need to be showing for this to have any validity as Battletech art at all.

>>97727583lore compliant is a korea-vietnam era looking small helmet up to and including funky new f-35 fullhelms, and overalls / flightsuit style cooling full body suit.its ONLY in maximum mad max era that tech got so bad they lost the ability to make and maintain such, and had to go back to the clunky, less good, but far tougher and cheaper and easier to make buckets, the training and testing nuerohelms that were never intended for actual combat, and had to go into battle naked or in panties / jockstraps with a mere cooling vest, since they could no longer make the star league era suits.but filthy clanners, cumstain, elite dracs etc never lost those, so they kept their much lighter and smaller NH's (that only work for them and them alone, whilst the buckets can be reconfigured)and proper cooling suits.and once helm memory core proliferated, and clans invaded, the OG sl era tech re-proliferates.
>>97727583For what it's worth, the more compact neurohelmet could work in the post-Clan era, or be a Star League relic.

>>97727117Good call>>97727139I didn't know this, thanks for the heads up!
>>97727908Mad Cat and some other Clan mechs, which were originally statted with factional accounting. IIRC Mad Cat lost a small laser and a small amount of armor or something. If you include when the game was still called Battle Droids, then all mech (or droids) started at that point, since the original rules didn't have in-engine heat sinks (the reason mechs like Marauder and Crusader have side torso with nothing but a ton of ammo, making any crit there an instant ammo explosion, is because originally all the other slots were taken by heat sinks).
>>97727908Few times. When they changed how fractional accounting worked some mechs became overweight so they had to change the RS. Easiest example of this in action is if you check the original TRO 3050 Mad Cat vs current it had to shed .5 tons. There's a few other examples out there as well including typo fixes but can't for the life of me think of exact cases at the moment.

>spend a few decades observing the IS through the wolf's dragoons>know that the IS has no idea what a batchall, or any of of your culture is>act surprised when the IS has no idea what the fuck you're talking about The clans make no sense during the invasion. Or were they banking on the IS being ignorant of their ways so they can steamroll them without honor loss?
>>97728328They weren't there to fight the IS, they were there to fight each other for the position of IlKhan. So Clan scoring rules applied.
>>97727969My only hope is that they split Bimodal into Prototype LAM with its current setup setup and then adds in a different Bimodal that adds less weight than a Triple gains compared to a base mech. If I had to eyeball it...maybe around 2-3 extra tons free at the 50 Ton size? For reference, a standard mech is about 5 tons lighter at that size when given identical armor/engine/jets/etc to a triple changer LAM, so 2-3 tons would be right in the middle.Like it's still gonna be weak compared to standard mechs and aerospace stuff, buy it allows you a bit of room to do some stuff since you can't use the utterly broken AirMech form.
>>97728328Pretty sure Clan honor demands you issue a batchall even though tyou know IS doesn't follow Zellbringen, so you can go "you dare refuse my batchall" and have now a justification for stomping them with whatever forces you deem fit.

>>97730388Thematically it's a huge difference.
>>97730388>and started adopting Zellbrigen? Why the fuck would you do that? Even the dracs learned to stop doing honorable duels against clanners by Wolcott (which is why they were able to fake out the clanners BTW). The clanners themselves stopped doing zell against everyone but other clanners, famous personalities and various types of knight by the DA. The clanners who start merc units go full IS and sure as fuck don't use zell.If you want "Your Dudes" who still do things like regular clanners, then you probably want Dark Caste. >>97731024>>97731047Kind of wonder what the explanation is for Jade Falcons constantly appearing all over the Inner Sphere and Periphery in the most random ass places post invasion? Its like they heard there was degeneracy and death nearby and they got there as fast as they could?
Ive been thinking. How could the ilkhanate have been done better or in general the clan occupied worlds developed naturally?I thought the wolves and bears were doing decent, shifting more into actual nations. But Falcon and most other clans were largely the same. How would you have handled the clan occupied worlds post the great smoking of the jaguar.
>>97731453The natural development of something as hyper specific as clannism would be for it to either retreat into reclusive bastions where no outside contact is allowed or end up diluted into more generic authoritarianism with a "warrior caste" that's just a junta or party or other closed ruling class. It can't survive contact with other societies fully intact. Basically either go full North Korea or full USSR.
>>97731453The attempted strict implementation of the retarded hell that is clan society results in the clan occupation zone using it collapse into total anarchy.Or "occupied" worlds are given almost total societal autonomy and just need to fulfill generous resource, war material and manpower quotas, while the actual clanners on each planet just live and are based in what is basically a big planetary oversight compound that serves as the interface between the local government and greater clan government.
>>97731553Ironically the 'clan' leading from battlefleets over a series of tributary worlds would be VERY Mongol.Maybe allow local militias and limit proper proper army stuff to a series of 'clan cities' where they could recruit and manage from when the main khan fleet is away.
>>97731516nah they just go proper feudal.Warriors are knights, thus rule over landed fiefs.Surnamed warriors are nobles. Their "houses" rule over a set of lesser fiefs and tend to only name those under them thus keeping it all "in the family"Science nerds are a resource to be distributed as the Khan sees fit.Same for workers.Merchants do whatever so long as they make money and dont mess with the order of things.
Other than being cheaper, what advantage do battlemechs have over omnimechs?
>>97731617do not underestimate the value of cheaper. both in lore and TT.plus they can be more easily specialized.
>>97731617They can have both a hand and a big gun on the same arm. And that's about it. The thing is, if you break the rules of omnimechs like removing fixed equipment, then you've just turned it into a very expensive regular mech. But if you gotta, you can do it without any extra difficulty or time above and beyond what it would take to perform that operation on a regular mech.
>>97731625>>97731637Was wondering if I can give a good enough reason for mydudes star using battlemechs despite of being first line
>>97731676For clanners, the prestige of having an omnimech trumps any other consideration. Except for Scorpion seekers. They'd proudly fly an age of war Shadow Hawk over a Mad Cat, as long as it has the original warranty in the glove box.

>>97731453The start of the IlClan era is pretty awkward, but I'm currently giving it a pass because Battletech as a whole was thrown into a deep hole of fuckery with how Wizkids handled it between their timejump from 3067 to the 3130s and status quo resets and all that other shit. When the FASA stuff took ~18 IRL years to cover about 40 in-universe years, CGL having to patch up the 80 years of empty timeskip and then progress anther ~20 in 19/20 IRL years that they've had the licence is...not ideal but fine. It had been over a year since I had last painted too, so it was nice to get something done, also while experimenting with some techniques with varying success.

>>97733003i refuse to accept your fucking shitposting, trolling terms.you clowns refuse to ever address the actual post in any way, and instead purposefully retard out about things that are not in it.
>>97733017probably not. faggots are going to shitpost forever and I will refuse to accept or accede to their cuntposting and bitch think.they're stupid faggots who have never been told 'no' and are forever mad some random person on the internet told them 'no, fuck off, leave me alone' for the first time ever.
>>97733017Absolutely. As soon as the Hunchback C fag leaves the hobby and these threads forever and kills himself and his entire family, then I'll stop. But not one moment before then. I only wish I could get him to attend a game in person so I could just kill him and be done with it. Valk has the right idea. Every Battletech player should carry a gun, and use it to remove the population that doesn't belong in the hobby.
>>97733025Lmao, honestly anon it sounds more like you're the one who was never told "no" as a kid and now that you've started hearing people say it to you now you'll throw a tantrum, call everyone contrarian-anon, and refuse to engage in discussion
>>97733018The original post is available for all to see in the archives. Now tell us again (like in your first tantrum) that you can take four of them in 3065 when the design is a unique one-off used by one very specific individual in one very specific unit.
>>97733018In that case, address this entirely separate question; you are going to be playing a 5k BV game set in 3039. What force would you bring?
>>97733017My conspiracy theory is that it's designed to make the user base here miserable for some kind of political agenda driven by the big AI companies.
>>97733028He refuses to go play a game in person with anyone from the btg because he knows they wouldn't put up with his crap. He's even hiding in fear from a batchall.
>>97733037i'm not. because no matter what i say, you will ADD caveats and retarded bullshit after the fact to nitpick, misrepresent and lie, pretending they were already there, in order to troll and shitpost some more.
>>97733065I knew you'd respond like this. There are no caveats, no additions, no last minute changes; you have 5k BV to make a force for a 3039 game. What are you taking?
>>977330752 Dasher primes, 2 Von Rhors
>>97733119That wasn't too hard now, was it?
>>97733148not even me, dumbshit.>>97733075i am not buying into your crap, retard
>>97733042That is no conspiracy. It's JIDF and their perma-online tranny servants stated goal.
>>97733160It's clear that you are somewhat socially retarded but I feel I need to ask; are you here to talk about Battletech or just shit post and yell at shadows?
>>97733037>In that case, address this entirely separate question; you are going to be playing a 5k BV game set in 3039. What force would you bring? Not that Anon, but an Annihilator 1X and three SubUrbanMechs!
>>97733330That is also acceptable
>>97731740just get into the freezer devlin, you have a entire republic to destroy in a few decades
Nice to see I can take a two week break from /btg/ and come back to the exact same conversation(s) as last time.
>>97732996Now now nuln, you know we are playing a 3066 game. You can bring one Hunchback C, but only if your playing Ghost Bears.
>>97722319hehe FAGerholm
>>97732847>>97732841Thanks guys>>97732938lol
>Throw in one cheeky mention of the Hunchback C>go to bed>nuln has spent the entire time i was asleep shitting up the thread because his skin is that thinLike clockwork
I hope you have all learned your lesson, if you do not start acting right the ECM attacks will continue.
Ghost Bear exiles "Die Sturmbjornen" incoming.Allies to my Neu Schwabenland forces (of course) who were moved by the kith & kin ideology of the Empire, "Trueborns" of these Ghost Bears are now truly born, the warriors have families tgough tge genetic modification still exists, just taking place in the acrual womb rather than a synthetic one "No womb is more Iron than that of a Ghost Bear Mother"
>>97734588Really putting the ghost in ghost bear
>>97734588Oh they are of the Ursa Major Galaxy, a nod to the Big Dipper origins of the Haakenkreuz through the Cosmic Hunt mythos, which ties in to the Clawing quite nicely as the hunted animal is either a Stag or a Bear.
>>97734588This legit gives me an idea for some Christmas themed decorations.
>>97734595Quite, bet you can't spot the Kodiak
>>97734588>"No womb is more Iron than that of a Ghost Bear Mother"Oh, just came to mind, they consider a warrior blessed if their mother goes to battle while pregnant with them at least once.
>>97734635of fucking course they would. Clanners still gotta clan, even if they are the more sensible ones.
>>97734552The blakism will continue until the morale improves.
>>97734694Ancient pre-christian German tradituon. Women and children would accompany their men to battle and stand on the sidelines to drive the warriors to fight harder knowing that if they lost their wives would be taken and their children slaughtered.
>>97734627Where is he?
>>97734748Hiding, waiting.
>>97734745>ghost bear fan reads TacitusKurita weebs with an open hentaihaven tab could never.
>>97734760And Caesar. This is just one of the many reasons he went for the Gauls instead of the Goths, Romans didn't want to fuck with the Goths.
Where are the neo neo paganism Odin and Cernunnos worshippers
>>97734887I’m hiding in your walls.
>>97734635That's actually a lot easier to accomplish with trueborn since they can use anyone as the "mother" in an iron womb and don't need the fetus to be with the mother at any point during development.
>>97734958That's LARP tier buddy.Asatru is an abrahamic take, they codify like the bible and use christian churches.99% of Futhark examinations are based on Guido von List rather than arcgeoligical examinations, I can see by the context of those titles that yours are amongst that 99%I don't see Adam of Bremen or Bede there, nor do I see any of large texts comprising syncretic examinations of the recorded and numerous European faiths that are also Yamnaya descended.
>>97734479A sight better than that CGI bullshit in the old TRO
>>97734780Contact with the Goths was much later than Caesar, the Empire was several Emperors deep before the Goths showed up to beg for asylum because the Huns were carving them up
>>97734958Where is Grimm's Teutonic Mythology, where is Saxo Grammaticus, Beowulf, Indo-European Interfaces or Walhall Germanische Gotter und Heldensagen? This looks like the meme shelf of a crystal stacking blue haired barista.
>>97735051Caesar wrote about the Goths buddy, he is one of Tacitus' sources.
>>97735132Not the same Goths, Caesar was referencing Germans and calling them Goths
>>97735145Those are the Goths.
>>97735151Not according to anthropology, and later sources than Caesar, but you have to appreciate Caesar being savvy enough politically to paint the Germans as a different people given he was about to attack a German tribe ostensibly allied to Rome to protect Gaulish allies he'd won for Rome, saving himself the public scrutiny over why he was committing to war against a massive tribal confederation for no territorial gain, just a flex
>>97735181>acording to later redefinitionContemporaneous or GTFO
>>97735200Dude, Alaric and his people are centuries after Caesar and don't even come from the same place as the false Goth narrative Caesar wrote about was located, they are not the same people, Caesar's "Goths" were Germans, Alaric's weren't, read some Mommsen
If I wanted to run a late Clan Invasion/Fed Com Civil War lance with a Warhammer WHM-7M-DC, a Wraith TR1, Centurion CN9-D, should I use any remaining points on the pilots, or grab a fourth mech to cover a capability gap. And if a fourth mech, which mech?
>>97735231>there is only one tribe of GothsYeah, GTFO. You're parroting a contentious argument that not all historians maintain.
>>97735265Without the fourth mech, it's a short lance, so I would grab one. I'd add something that can keep up and has LRMs, like a Trebuchet or Whitworth. The command console can spot for them without any penalties.
>>97735308Why not a Dervish?
>>97735320
>>97735326the NukeUrbie
>>97735326The ride never ends.
>>97735326I'm not too fond of that Sunder. It looks all legs.
>>97735376The original is pretty leggy
>>97735324It could be a Dervish, or an Archer, or any of the numerous random CI mechs with LRMs. I wouldn't use a Longbow or Viking though, too slow.
>>97735320>>97735371Given that Mason was born around 2996, wonder how much longer will they milk him. FCCW at most?
>>97735545Average Inner Sphere lifespan is 90 and the Jihad had a bunch of mercenary companies disband, so they could set him up to retire in the wake of it's ending.
