I hate Harlequin. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
>>97725931He loses too often for me to hate him.
I’d love to play 3e like an early 2000s cyberpunk setting with flip phones and service providing, but I’m afraid of the bloat. Especially if I’ve got totally new to Shadowrun players. What are some GM tips for someone coming from 4/5e?
>>977259783rd edition GM reporting for duty, what bloat?
>>97726128Sorry I’m just going off of the hearsay and opinions I’ve read from actual 3e play. Still though, I would appreciate some tips for running/writing for the edition.
>>97725978First: Don't run 3e. Use 2e instead. If there's no grounding this shit may as well be CGLrun.
>>97726383It’s still Shadowrun, I’m just putting on the 2000s veneer rather than the skateboard 80s.
>>97726383I don't understand this line of thinking. We just tried to do a game of 2e, and it was such a junky unmanageable slog we quit. How is that the better choice?
>>97726418Did you finish or quit halfway?
>>97726489We played 3 sessions, with increasing amounts of complexity each time. The last session was fully RAW, with the simplest version of a heist with a very simple matrix network on top. It was a fucking slog.
>>97726717If you thought 2e was a slog, fucking yikes, you'd die to 3e like this stupid newbie who got groomed into trying it and burnt out spectacularly
Is this game still being played?
>>97726418>and it was such a junky unmanageable slog we quitHow so?
>>977263833rd is just 2nd with needed fixes.
>>97731326>Splitting up almost every active skill into their concentrations>"needed fixes"So "needed" that skill groups got introduced in 4e and were expanded in 5e.
>>97731555Yeah sure everyone has their nitpicks, nothing is perfect but having played BOTH 2nd and 3rd, the latter is the clear choice.
>>97731175Nah. I hit up all the places that used to be talked about when /srg/ was still alive and they're all ghost towns these days. It's one of those that's talked about way more than it's actually played.
>>97731314Hacking requiring two rolls to do literally anything, making failure more likely, plus several rolls being unclear. Tracking a bunch of tiny modifiers. Awful, badly edited rule book where sometimes rules are with rules, sometimes rules are with gear, sometimes gear rules are in with normal rules, and a dogshit useless index. Couldn't find the rules for shit like fire or acid damage. It was bad in ways that I didn't expect and hadn't heard people talk about, alongside the ways I was prepared for. It sucks, 2nd edition is my favorite version of the setting by far, but the system is just dog shit.
I've been thinking about a "crafter" character. Not like a rigger or a weapon crafter, but like a utility crafter, a document forger, a chemical crafter, or someone who can replicate uniforms and shit like that. And bombs.
>>97732597what are you going to do during runs?
>>97732597You could play a sort of gadgeteer rigger, streetsam or adept, like a tricksy ninja. Just a huge trenchcoat of all sorts of tools, with little to no drones.
>>97731598The lore is better in 2nd edition though
I’d love to run a cyberpirates of the caribbean campaign for 4 buddies. Has anyone done something similar, or know of any famous campaign writeups? I’d love to know the extent I’d need to prepare for such a thing.
>>97735120>I’d love x2oops
>chummer .226 finally gets released>/srg/ would rather talk about nothing
>>97733004Face/infiltrator.
>>97738216Honestly it doesn't matter because the B/R rules are practically freeform and depend on your GM's whims.
It feels so depressing looking at my character sheets knowing they will never find games, bros. I got tricked into learning about a fun system and a cool setting that I will literally never be able to play because the culture is fundamentally catered towards people who don't read and it's become too niche for others to give it a chance.
>>97743294The problem is clearly with the vultures stalking after games. If a new GM gets himself into Shadowrun and wishes to run it, he should exclusively use players that are as new as him. Letting in online people who love to cook and boil this system absolutely rapes the new GM when he barks, because some of you fuckers cannot keep your refined and done over-a-million times characters locked inside. The amount of groans you get when only the core rulebook is allowed and nothing else explodes. This game has been talked and discussed to death.
>>97744104Vultures? My man, as a GM who has actually ran multiple games the primary problem is that there's practically nobody around that wants to play anymore. It's not the type of game that gets a lot of interest nowadays. You can leave an ad running and get crickets. Another problem is that the game has barely been discussed at all. People's idea of it, sure, but right in /srg/ the few who actually knew what they were talking about got attacked relentlessly because they dared try to teach a mindset of looking the answers up yourself instead of making every general into a Q&A session. The overwhelming majority don't play with the full rules in mind, to the point I was the sole person as a player that ever brought up complications that should have existed.
>>97745114>You can leave an ad running and get crickets.Only if it's voice trash.
>>97745114>because they dared try to teach a mindset of looking the answers up yourselfThat's a really funny to describe what happened, which was actually any sort of discussion at all being shut down by autists screeching "READ THE BOOK AAAAHHHH."
>>97745865The alternative, which I understood after talking with those anons and following the method they practiced, was painstakingly quoting every single page because there was such a fundamental breakdown in communication with others who proudly refused to read the books and made up whatever sounded great in their heads. Do you think that's a fun thing to do to other anons? >>97745119Other way around anon.
>>97735120someone once began their own storytime and ended about right when they got into the caribbean leagues
>>97735120Shadowrun's hard enough to get into detail about the puget sound.
>>97745114I’m the original guy and I understand your points, and you’re right. But you have to understand that once in a blue moon, some wide-eyed GM rolls into Shadowrun and gets swarmed by the creatures that have experience. Instead of using that experience to lift the game, they instead abuse it by trying to style, maximize and break the game in some sort of math experiment. The greatest game of Shadowrun I’ve had has been with complete newbies, filtering out any german freak or up the wall expansion book addict. This goes both ways.
>>97749479Oh, definitely you have a lot of problems. But they come from people who don't read the books and act like they do, only to crumble when you call them out. I agree a newbie gm that never "played" Shadowrun before who's got good habits would be be better off with fellow newbies, but with the atrocious editing of most books and, let's be honest, the age of them, most people aren't going to give them a chance. It's one of the reasons Shadowrun is so unpopular these days.>german freakAnon... It's mainly rules clarifications, do you like frustrating ambiguity that much?
Does anyone know where I can find a english-language PDF of Shadowrun Anarchy 2.0? I've seen really good reviews of the system but the publisher inexplicably took down the pdf listings from their website and the only version left for purchase is a french-language hardcover.SRA 1.0 was a lot of fun, especially for newbies. But it was so janky and broken you needed a whole binder of houserules and errata to make it work.
>>97749935If only there was a place to ask about pdfs on this board...
>>97749935>Purchasing cgl booksThe frogs are the only ones worth supporting there. They did you a favor by not tricking you into supporting them as glorified translators.
>>97752078You've got it the wrong way around, the only thing that CGL is involved with is distribution stateside. The book was written and tested by the French dudes.
>>97752334CGL has some input on the translation of the English version itself. That's why you should only support the French version.
>>97749935I got you, senpai. https://files.catbox.moe/cjnscs.pdf
>>97755826Thanks omae.
>>97749935Did Anarchy 2.0 fix all the rule problems with 1.0? I want a simple rules-light mechanics system for SR without all the contradictory, error-laden cruft of 1.0.
>>97764442I haven't had a chance to run it yet, but from a read-through, it seems pretty solid. It's quite a bit different than 1e though. But it's worth a read.
>>97764442It's written by the frogs who made good books, instead of CGL who make bad books. The saddest part is that it's one of the best 'Shadowrun' books in years which will further disincentivize the real Shadowrun from getting the work it deserves.
>>97734963>still upset at RAS 30 years later
Is it possible to run this solo?
>>97771261What?
>>97785096In the 32 hours between that post and yours, you could have worked out what RAS was, downloaded it, read it, worked out why somebody might consider it the cause of the things they don't like about 3e's setting, concluded whether you agree or disagree, and posted an informed response that would both bump the thread and stimulate discussion. And instead you chose to sit on your ass and post a one-word nothingburger.I sentence you to continuous play of Harlequin, Harlequin's Back, and the entire Artifacts series. I further sentence you to making every character by hand, you are banned from both NSRCG and the Chummers.
>>97785413Holy shit, you're an obnoxious motherfucker. Why are you even here if you hate the idea of people asking questions about Shadowrun in a Shadowrun thread so much? Fuck off.
>>97785413Renraku Arcology Shutdown, which absolutely nobody abbreviates as RAS because RAS Override is right over there, is wholly a 2e book. Being "mad" about it in the context of 3e makes no sense because by 3e that was already a done deal. You had all the opportunity in the world to contribute yourself by making a more thought out post than >still upset at RAS 30 years laterThat might actually encourage anons to think, learn, and discuss. But you literally say right here that you want other anons to do all the hard work for you. What you implied with the construction of your first response was proven with your second. There is no discussion possible with an insipid mouthbreather who wants to kill discussion instead of attempting to germinate it. I get you're trying to ape the posts of old where anons hinted at material to try encouraging others to pick their brains for the answer, but they would give the source out if anon was earnest about needing help. Your attitude is poisonous and it's one of the reasons /srg/ died. There was no value in your post besides a simple one word question, frankly that was clearly overkill because you lost your ability to introspect a long time ago. As the other anon said, fuck off.
>>97776409you can run any game solo but also get some fucking friends
>>97788187Been there, tried that. I need to be more realistic about my options these days.
>>97788373hire a group
Hi Anons, I have a question on how to properly build a drone fighter-bomber using the Double Clutch and Deadly Arts rules. My question is more about the hardpoints, how should I build them for a stealth drone?
>>97790412>6eDrop everything.
>All my friends just wanna play DnDNever again shall I find a 4e game it feels...
>>97795758You won't find any Shadowrun game these days. Best to start thinking of it as a setting to inspire you instead of a game you play.
