Thread about Action! System and its' derived systems (like Open Core).

Do you have any experience with Action! System?

No. Sell it to me.

Action! System is a 3d6 system that uses roll over mechanic (for me is more intuitive then roll under).
It was created as enhanced version of Fusion System (Action! is OGL, while Fusion isn't).
It has a lot of options for character builds, but point cost of character options is unified (less searching in a book).
In addiction it is quite easy to homebrew.

Main downside is that main Core Book feels unfinished (it lacs proper Vehicles and Magic sections).

Sounds like a shitty GURPS.

Knew about the ties to Fuzion, didn't know anything about an association with Open Core. Got a list of Action! System-adjacent games and where to find them? I know Gold Rush Games is defunct and finding all of the Action! System files are very difficult to find.

Only list I could find was on RPGGeek.com (I am not sure it it is complete.

Open Core is very weird system. Imagine crossover between Action! System and Tri-Stat System.
It sounds like something that wouldn't mesh together, but it works.
The fun fact is that it have actual rules fro vehicular combat and magic, which Action! System was lacking.
And you can skip Open Anime - it is basically Open Core, but with uncanny CGI illustrations.

Wasn't there supposed to be a 2.0 version some time ago?
>>
>>97738972
Funnily enough, I have both; I snagged them in a bundle deal that doesn't appear available anymore.

Action! System 2.0? Is Mark Arsenault of defunct Gold Rush Games involved, or was this a spin off, as anyone can create content for Action! System? I hadn't heard anything about this. I'd love to know more.

There was a Kickstarter years back that didn't get funded. That's all I ever heard of it, so I don't know if they just picked up their ball and went home.

Well, thanks for the link.

I found Neon Necromancer Games' website after viewing the defunct KS page. I have reached out to them on X and their website; I don't have a FB account anymore or would reach out to them, there.

If they reply, I'll post an update here.

In the meantime, if you were to use the core Action! System for something like superheroes, how would you fill in the gaps?

I would be tempted to grab my copy of Champions: New Millennium or BESM 2ER and try to fill in the holes.

I think the 3rd ed. of GURPS could be useful.
Both systems have the same level of detail in aspects like skills.
In addition old Sengoku system has conversion rules for both GURPS (3rd. ed.) and Action System, with would help with conversion.

Alternative is using Super Powers System from Fuzion System, but it feels limited.

I'm not sure I'd want to go full-on GURPS or Hero System, but if I did, I would probably lean into Champions 4E, as I know New Millennium was built using that as a guide, and I'm more familiar with it.
