Five finger butt hold
>>97735667sup /btg/ figured ya'll would enjoy this dramatic write up I did of a recent battle. https://rentry.co/rf79afp4
>>>97734992>>>97735055nta, recommend me everything you know for learning this stuff not including whats already been mentioned
>>97735824It's a subject not well written about.Of those mentioned just about eveeything core is covered in tgose two comments, most everything else is either built on referencing those or is neo/wicca bullshit like the majority of everything covering runes/magic(seidr/galdr).Of those listed Tacitus' Germania, Bede, Adam of Bremen, Grimm;s Teutonic Mythology, The Edda's, The Saga's, Saxo Grammaticus and Beowulf are an incredibly good grounding.Note that Adam and Bede are most useful for what they describe as prohibited/taboo, neither sought to preserve Heathenry so you must read between the lines, if they knew their value today they would have burned their own writings.
>>97735667Pic reminds me, do you guys have any cool background/scenry image that I could print out and use as a background when taking model pictures?
>>97735955Tell the image generator to edit one for you, like so.
>>97734887btw I was asking if there was any in-universe dudes believing in those; Maybe somewhere in Hogs?
>>97735966>Hey I want to show off my model painting, what can I use to help highlight that?>Just feed your model into an AI image generator, that totally doesn't destroy what you are trying to showcase
>>97735993You asked for a background picture.Showing off the model is done a black or white infinity wall, not a picture
>>97735955Usually I think a solid color backdrop is the best choice to keep from it messing with the lighting, which you could chromakey shit in for.Otherwise, more abstract options like printing off mapsheets to use have the added benefit of giving a sense of the tabletop scale and feel, with the grid and numbers applying some texture.>>97736014What a thrilling opinion, we'll take it under advisement.
>>97736030Not an opinion chuddy, it's objective fact.
>>97736048When you have to assert your opinions as fact they cease to be either credible facts or credible opinions.
>>97736131You're a fucking retard if you think that's an "opinion" as professional photgraphy has established this many decades ago.
>>97736181We're not playing this game. This is not why I'm here and you're neither an entertaining nor worthy adversary.Sure, I'm a fucking retard. Lets go with that. Whatever makes you happy.
>>97736234Oh yes pretend jit's me and not hundreds of thousands of photography professionals, if not millions, over the last fucking century.Truly I am alone on this hill, abso-fucking-lutely.
>>97736258NTA but you used the word chud unironically which does imply you live in a fantasy land divorced from reality.
>>97736277>argument failed>abandon argument for ad hominemClockwork.
Anyone ever use the rules for equipping Manei Domini with cybernetics like pain shunts, filtration lung, dermal armor implants and so on, in Jihad Hot Spots: 3072? They seem pretty fun.
>>97736302I have, but not with BV. The VDNI with the small cockpits alone is peak blakefaggotry.
>>97736285The character of a person making an argument IS an argument.
>>97736302Is that stuff going to matter at Total Warfare level? Serious question; I don't know shit about the nitty gritty of blakists or if any cybernetics are substantial enough to have an effect at that level beyond the rules for VDNI and etc.
>>97736325You can basically ignore small cockpit and pilot hits with their bullshit. That's just in mechs. As infantry, you get even more bullshit.
>>97736311The artist and his works are separable.Judging an argument by who is making it is yet another logical fallacy, a circuitous way of admitting that you're a faggot who lost.
Something just feels off about this design.
>>97736325Infantry moving faster, even tougher BA, ignoring pilot damage, ignore environmental effects with breached cockpit, there's a load of shit you can do with the MD rules.
IS Standard is coming to Mercs.
>>97736302but can I use the cyberware pre-3072 with non manei dominei?
>>97736350>The artist and his works are separable.Complete fucking rightwingslop. Stfu
>>9773639299% of MD tech is 3067 and in Covert Ops. They were just the first to use it at deployable scale instead of random super ninjas and assassins.
>>97736392I neither know, nor care, as I was asking if anyone has used the rules presented in Jihad Hot Spots: 3072 and thus will obviously be playing the Jihad when they can be used :)
>>97736395>not even making a pretense to stay on topic nowPoor thing, overtaxed your neurons?
>>97736325A fully kitted out blakist pilot basically doesn't take piloting damage except for... I want to say direct head hits? Or maybe falling and failing a seat belt check? One of the two, but nothing else. Their bonus to piloting is eaten by the small cockpit penalty iirc.
Mech company, with an attached reserve lance and a local militia lance.
>>97736302Modded up BA troops are fucking terrifying. Expensive, but terrifying.
>>97736361It's too skinny. In need of a Pierce Brosnan level architect.
>>97736400brings to mind, I was looking around covert ops and with some of the cyberware and art I was reminded of cyberpunk 2020is covert ops for a time of war or mechwarrior 3rd ed? and is it any good?it seems like it might be a fun ruleset to play around in to get my friends into the setting, since they're not bt fans but they play ttrpgs occasionally and enjoy some historical wargameand I'm interested especially since I've heard you can convert stuff to the tabletop and I see these cyber upgrades have stuff for the rpg mentioned
>>97736430You know what I think that's exactly what is wrong with it. Looks like a medium. It does not give a vibe of being an assault or even heavy mech.
>>97736416In the process of getting two Square Battalions.
>>97736530Forgot picture
>>97736335>>97736364>>97736412I knew about the ignoring small cockpit thing, but man those MD are on some serious shit huh? Thanks for the rundown. I'm looking at running a Chaos Marches campaign soon and I want to have that shit in my back pocket as a surprise if we get far enough down the timeline. It might be the cold medicine and some serious fucking delirium, but I was also considering setting up a big track that has a surprise ending as WoB nukes a nearby city upwind and you have to iron out the last of your objectives with all unprotected assets in full blown panic forced withdrawal before the fallout comes sweeping in.
>>97736544Very nice.
So manic and bottom are easy to spot because of their posting style, but is our current loudest thread troll bussy/bansheeLord?
>>97736610>bussy/bansheeLord?He's still here? Last I saw him he was stinking up /hhg/ half a year ago
>>97736610Save it for autosage hours.
New/capellan/steiner/taurian/lin bao fag here. Just finished a platoon of house steiner infantry. Wat do?
>>97736361It's a shame we're not getting any of the other first gen IS Omni's. The Avatar just got a redesign as well. Plus it's not like they can't just re-use a lot of the original assets for the Blackjack and the Firestarter. Hell, even the Strider was borrowing heavily from the Cicada in places apparently.
>>97736740What models did you use for those?
>>97736777These bad boys. Great qualityhttps://www.etsy.com/listing/1364025039/6mm-scale-troopers-thirty-30-figures-in
>>97736799Thanks!
>>97735667Damn, that is one sexy Wolfhound. Glamour shot much?
>>97735993No, there's an anon here who actually modelled and printed a bunch of archerpults. As his own au's production mechs on some planet as part of a campaign? They actually look like that. And are kind of neat A F.
>>97736762Also the Perseus, which is an omni-Orion. The old metal model pushes the Orion's big LRM block up and out of the shoulder and restyled things to be a bit blockier, but is pretty similar overall.
>>97736845I don't think the fact the model is real does anything to solve the issue that throwing your painted model into the slop machine isn't going to showcase the paintjob; like at all.Once you've manipulated the photo this much it's practically a photo collage and I can't even tell how much of the grain is real or how much is being fucked up or sharpened.
>>97736873But it looks cool. And that's the only point.
>>97736762I’m interested to see what the mean by 20 new vehicle types. Just variants of existing ones or actual new vehicles? World be neat to get a bit more variety
>>97736890This is true, if you completely ignore the premise and disregard any context you can be satisfied with any outcome.
>>97736955Whatever, contrarian-anon.People can have nice things, you know. You don't have to relentlessly shitpost every single fucking peice of actual content contributed. You can, in fact, just NOT reply.
3/8ths of the entire Capellan Navy as of 3067, 2/3rds of the Impavido Class Destroyers present and 1/5th of the Feng Huang Cruisers. I bought StratOps recently so I'll be learning that for shits and giggles.
>>97736955You can instruct the generator not to alter lighting and contrast on the model itself and only generate a background.
>>97736361That's what the sunder looks like, they barely changed the design. PGI and catalyst tend to bulk the mechs up way too much, so this is a nice change of pace.
>>97736973It's not my job to qualify what is or isn't content, much less what is quality content. It's not my job in fact to do anything in this thread. I am however going to say what I want in here and if that hurts your feelings you're invited to pound sand.>>97736994Well if the model was instructed in fact to make it look like it was rolled in sand before it was painted it did an excellent job of it. I presume the actual fucking model looks nicer; but I can't tell with the magical sloppification ray applied; which is my only problem with it being suggested regarding miniature photography.>>97737052Yeah I keep seeing people complain about how it's too leggy, but I don't think I've seen any depictions that weren't leaning that way. It looks good, my only irritation really is I wish there were more IS omnis coming with the DLC.
>>97736762Still no Hauptmann.I need my Laser Cigar.
>>97737059And anon responded with the truth of photography, if you're looking to show off the painting you use a monocolor flat background.Image backgrounds are to create a scene, generated or not an image background is going to be bad for the stated desire. Generation introduces the alteration element, for photography it creates focus and contrast issues, which is why professionals don't do it.
>>97737061Why no flamer I wonder
>>97737088Well I can't compete in a discussion with "anon"-- who is clearly a single person-- holding two contradictory opinions and simultaneously disagreeing with, agreeing with and seething impotently at me. That is, in fact, the exact game that I am not willing to play.I reiterate map sheets can be a fun choice.
>>97736992Just bumpin' for Battlespace. I have almost 1500 minis and just 7 of this kind. I hope you enjoy your fleet, Anon. Also, use the ECM and Newtonian rules.
>>97736992Blessed post, please keep us updated on your progress. We need more autism (good kind) in this thread. Looking forward to seeing how this pans out.
>>97737174This is twice you've said " I won't play this game" yet you're still dragging this on. So we can see that your words are worthless as you contradict them as you write them.Either fuck off or quit lying.
>>97737189Thank you! the plan is to have the entirety of the Capellan Navy and the FWL Navy to be mostly able to pick and choose what warships I wanna play Advanced AeroSpace with>please keep us updated on your progressWill do! I can't paint these guys soon as the bases they came with are shit! Especially the stands for the minis. Once I get some 2mm brass rods it'll be good to go. I'll be painting some cappie mechs tomorrow.>We need more autism (good kind) in this thread. That's what I'm here for!>>97737185Thanks! I'm using StratOps rules for it, haven't gone through the book just yet but I got a free night so maybe I'll do so tonight
>>97737216I can say it as many times as I want, but understanding has to occur in that void between your ears.At least pretend you're not here to pick a stupid fight.
>>97737230...You're the guy endlessly bitching at that other anon about the hunchback C aren't you?
>>97737238Nah, I'm the dread pirate roberts bro, trust me.You wanna see my fucking name tag? Not everybody who disagrees with you is the same faggot.
>>97737264>trust meYou've lied twice in this comment chain.Yeah you're the guy, your phrasing gives it away. So you claiming someone is here just to pick a fight is pure fucking projection.
>>97737285Alright, you win, your autism is way too strong for me to fucking deal with. When I'm done shotgunning this cough medicine I'll see if we can talk about something less retarded.
>>97737292Your attitude is as shit as your painting. I see why you pick on nuln so much (who hasnt posted mechs in a long time) as he's the only lower hanging branch in the general.
>>97737264Where's that Uziel from? That IWM or a print?
>>97737325A friend of mine printed it, I think it's the MWO model of the 8S (I accidentally did the arm guns up as light PPCs like a Belial, but they ended up looking really good so I left them), but I'm not sure.
>>97737309The last time nuln posted mechs was like 4-5 days ago, anon
>>97737380Okay there spreadsheet stalker
>>97737402>what is witnessing things in real time
>>97737408Living ITT 24/7 then? Touch grass.
>>97736973>You can, in fact, just NOT reply.Remember nuln; this applies to you too.
>>97737443>thinking you have to be terminally online to see thingsLol, lmao even
>>97736416>>97736544Impressive. I like the color pallette
>>97737443The thread does not disappear when you’re not looking at it.
>>97737443Wait, do you just scroll all the way to the bottom every time you come back to a thread without reading anything between the last time you were here and now? I know zoomers have bad attention spans, but what the fuck?
my pile of shame remains untouched. Real Life has kept me from it and dissuades me from it.
>>97737542I'm not reading whole threads I wasnt a part of, I'm also not reading whole chains of shitposting and "fuck you namefag x!" "N..no, fuck you namefag y!"Thanks for confirming your status as a spreadsheet stalker
>>97737587So you don't even know what you're talking about? No wonder your posts are drivel.
>>97737576But mechs are so fast to paint, a lance an evening or at least a lance a weekend is manageable
>>97737444No it does not. I will respond to anything I want, and you can just fucking cope.
>>97737588Spreadsheet. Stalker.
>>977375760/10, not four of each like you usually do
>>97737589I would have to momentarily stop being in existential dread to paint.
>>97737604ever just stare into the void and realize we're a fart on the wind.
>>97737591No.
>>97737598that's called 'a joke'. i don't always play dcms, but when i do, it full meme ahead.
>>97737589Just 4 in a weekend? Amateur, surely one can manage a trinary and their star captain in that timeframe!I seriously hope I get these done that fast
>>97737595>reading one post down from yours requires a spreadsheetIs this what the children call a self report? Six seven, amirite?
>>97737609constantly.
>>97737614>theseThese
also, threadly reminder the BJ C fucks. hard. 2 clpl, 2 csrm4. unf.
>>97737616No, fuck you. you just claimed you obsessively read every thread completely even the parts you werent there for or party too, either that or you're here all day everyday. You also claied to know exactly when a specific anon last posted, so either you're keeping tabs on everyone and/or you have no fucking life but to hang out here every waking moment.Get a life loser.
>>97736030Anon is asking because of the OP pic which is also clearly using a generated background
>>97737613Ohhhhhhhh, so the four Hunchback C lance is also a joke. I get it now.
>>97737632Needing a spread sheet to read a sequential series of short posts and/or recognizing very consistent posting patterns is not normal, anon. I'm sorry you're going through that, and would like you to put this message in your spreadsheet so you remember it.
>>97737632Nobody claimed they read the thread compulsively at all though
>>97737632But you start ranting within minutes of someone mentioning you or joking about the Hunchback C. Do you have some kind of alert for it or are you telling on yourself?
>>97737655Inherent implication>>97737654>he doesn't knowYou cant be this new to 4chan, can you? >>97737668Not the nuln faggot, dumbass.
>>97737052>PGI and catalyst tend to bulk the mechs up way too muchPGI routinely creates much slimmer redesigns than CGL.
>>97737690I think you're putting the implication into the anons words so that you can satisfy your own shitposting
What do you guys prefer to use to indicate the forward facing part of the base? Keep it plain black like the rest, a clear white, use the color of the cockpit glass with potential jeweling, a banner, or something else?
>>97737690Hey, I'm going to need you to go check your irl spreadsheet and see if someone's booked you an appointment with a doctor. It might be under neurologist or possibly geriatrician. I want you to get the help you need so you remember things without a spreadsheet and stop projecting as much.
>>97737711>he really doesnt know! You need to be 18 to post here
>>97737713Yeah, that's what I mean. The doctor needs to know you're doing this kind of thing. Modern medicine can help you.
>>97735308>>97735324>>97735487Thanks for the help, anons. I'll start looking through the variants of those to see which ones catch my attention.
>>97737705I only painted the rear of my base, I thought that was more important, but that was my first impression as a casual.
>>97737705I've painted the front of some of mine with the base color of the cockpits before. A lot of people use hazard stripes, and some of the more popular 3d printed bases have them sculpted in.
>>97737705I've been thinking combining the edge color with what's on the base would be neat; blue edge where part of a lake or ice sheet, brown for a patch of mud, grey for a length of street and so on.
>>97737705Black hex baseBright yellow front hex sideNo exceptions
>>97737705If your force has a distinct highlight color, that would be good for it. On the guys I'm playing in a campaign right now, I've used their highlight color for the other five sides and their cockpit color for the front. Solid front on mechs, Roman numerals for vehicles and battle armor that I have or plan to have more than one of.
>>97726957AGOAC 2nd edition in my hands now. This is so coolAlan Gutierrez' art is beautiful
>>97737646well duh. the original post was merely a list, showing how in both AS and cbt, an order lance of HBK C at skill 3 or 3/4 are delightfully roundly balanced. 2,499 bv or 50 pv. for a lance at 9,996 bv or 200 pv. of course its a fucking joke.but the retarded shitposting faggots, instead of actually engaging with the list in any way, or making any points at all such as >sure 6/9 is 'fast' but you have no jumpinstead its all just >REEEEEE CANNOT HAVE FUCK YOU REEEEE or>lol our 3025 game cannot have>what fucking 3025 game?
>>97737785There was a used record sheet in the box. MechWarrior Scott over here piloted a custom 70 tonner named "Maverik".
>>97737705A color that isn't anywhere else on the model. Purple for my current schemes.
>>97737790So all this time you've been acting retarded on purpose?
>>97737805NO. all this time i have consistently said >NO. fuck off, I am not buying into your bullshit.
>>97737805He's just lying, he used to go on big tangents about MUL letting him use four of them in 3065 because a single unique one was built that year, he really desperately wants it to be era compliant before the dark age (when it was cloned for full scale production) for some reason even though he could just pretend to play in ilclan.
>>97737809If you werent buying into the bullshit wouldn't it be better to just NOT respond at all?
>>97737801>Oh these? My pauldrons?
>>97737796What a shit design. Not max armor. No headcappers. That would never stand up to a Mad Cat. Who even uses SRM2s? Dude needs to read goonhammer and figure out what a good design actually looks like.
>>97737801>>97737814anyone ever paint them like a pair of tits. Could be a useful distraction that buys precious seconds on the battlefield.
>>97737831Given the era, that's a warcrime-mobile with the only inferno capable SRMs.
>>97737831Goon hammer thinks staying heat neutral on a jump is bad
>>97737867But it could theoretically be heat neutral on a jump with max armor and alpha striking with a brace of clan pulse lasers, so...
>>977377963 Gunnery and 6 Piloting seems odd. Is this normal for custom mechs? I usually only play with 4/5 or 3/4 and use stock designs
>>97738034Most people don't bump up their piloting regardless, not if they don't want to spend most of the game rolling on the floor.
>>97738034A lot of people abide by the idea of keeping piloting and gunnery within 2 steps of each other.
>>97738113What BattleMech would Jesus pilot
>>97738117Koschei. It looks the most like a cross.
>>97738117An Exo HaulerMech. It has a nail gun.
This is blasphemy and I hope all of you responding as such are dammed to eternal hellfire for your lack of proper reverence towards Jesus Christ the son on God. Repent now and abandon liberalism, and you too can be saved through His power and glory.
Man, just how many DLCs is MW5 gonna get? I always want to pick it up and start messing around with it, but then go "Eh, I'll wait until all the DLCs are out"
>>97738182MW5 is PGI's forever game for now. It'll keep the lights on at the studios until they can work out a plan for a new game
>>97738184We need a DLC that adds commandable allied infantry
>>97738182Just get it and buy at least Heroes of the Inner Sphere and Solaris Showdown, which gets you the career sandbox and arena battles. It's very fun
>>97737705Sticky arrow.>>97738169But Bot, do you even have a soul?
Are there any battletech game videos worth watching? Not lore stuff like Tex but actual gameplay? I tried watching this Alpha Strike one from a channel called Play on Tabletop that just popped up on YouTube, but I just couldn't get into it. There's something off about the way everyone talks, like they're in a bad commercial or something.

>>97736911Probably a mix of some new stuff and then some variants. They've already said were getting some of the Clanbuster variants, like the Archer with quad LRM15's and the exploding knees for example. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the sword wielding Black Knight as well.
>>97737061Well, you wouldn't, that doesn't turn up unto 3060 at the earliest, and it's most connected to the civil war in most peoples mind due to it turning up first in Mercs 4.
>>97738330>>97738314Thanks, I'll give them a look.
>>97738341It was a famous novel from Austria before the Disney movie. The Star League and the Great Houses had kind of a thing about preserving "high culture" for a while, so it makes sense people would still remember it.
>>97738521With how easily just one clan steamrolled their way to Terra. I doubt the IS would beat the clans in a war at this point.
Premium black knight and comstar battle ii rerelease when? $65/$120 is nuts. EN VE TE nuts!
>>97738567Yeah, but what the Inner Sphere considers "high culture" is somewhat random. It absolutely would track that the Dracs consider japanese video game output during the 1980's to 2010 to be High Culture. As they should. Also consider: Tomboki Hussar's have been a thing since forever, so somebody out there has preserved the works of Rumiko Takahashi at the very least, which kind of informs you of the level of things that have been considered worth preserving.

>>97738600Mate, the only reason they didn't steamroll the IS the first time around was because they stupidly forgot to remove the training wheels and used Zell, and even then, they still probably would have ground their way to victory if the Khan hadn't been killed in an unlucky kamikaze strike that caused them to just... stop, for two whole fucking years to politick, allowing the IS to get their ducks in a row... for essentially the first time in history. Now that they've learnt to act like proper successor lords? There's no fucking chance until the IS figures out how to uplift their entire techbase to clan standard. Which they'll probably be able to do eventually since the clans tech levels have been pretty stagnant for centuries now at least.
>>97738623>clanbuster King CrabUh... why? You can just make that as is with the current King Crab frame right? You literally just upgrade the LL to PLL and the AC20's to Gauss Rifles? At least the others have non-standard slot options. Like the Archer with it's 4 large missile slots or a Champion with actual weapons in the arms for the first and only time in history. The lack of Clanbuster Shadowhawk is a shame, since you can't make that one yourself in the mechbay, but them;s the breaks.>MRMs, Arrow IV, XPulse, LAC and Heavy Lasers.Oh nice.
>>97738677Honestly, it's kind of weird to me that nobody does prints of the Atlas II and III. It's like they looked at them both and went "Nope. That's too sill for me" and when and modelled a Wardog instead.
>>97738751Because the OG Atlas III mini from clicktech is cheap as fuck and basically BT size.
>>97738729Clans are a paper tiger surviving on plot armor and inability of novel writers to comprehend how big a proper house army is.They are a plot device and self insert for people too lazy to properly wargame.
>>97738748You couldn't swap out engines last I played, they were specific to the variant you started with, and that configuration entails an XL.
>>97738773is it so hard to imagine that a technologically advanced enemy with highly skilled individuals with the element of surprise could even the odds against a larger enemy?rapid gains, followed by a stalemate, and then a total loss of cohesion sounds pretty reasonable for a small but powerful and concentrated force meeting a larger more dispersed one
>>97738800On tabletop it's perfectly possible for a force with clan mechs to beat 5 times their number in light to medium vehicles. All the clan player has to do is play in the opposite way a crusader trueborn would.
>>97738773You also seem to be forgetting the monumental amount of resources and organization that would be required to concentrate house armies onto a single front. Resources the great houses do NOT have. And even if they did scramble to put all their military up against the clans, another house would capitalize on the reduced defenses on other borders. Its why comstar rolling up with such massive forces shocked everyone. A supposedly neutral party with token defense military, suddenly having forced on par with a great house and even better logistics.
>>97738800He's not talking about the invasion. He's talking about the DA retardation of "Forget the Falcons, the FWL are THE REAL ENEMY. I should just invite the entirety of Clan Wolf to park on that border. I'm sure nothing bad will happen." The entire IS goes pants-on-head retarded from realizing the clans are the biggest threat to the IS to them being secondary. You even see this with the Stoners killing themselves. The Successor Lords randomly start acting like the clans are a secondary concern after the 2nd SL falls apart. Not that Successor Lords acting completely stupid in the DA/ilClan is anything new. How many of them are childless or unmarried? It's fucking ridiculous, like the writers totally forgot how important that is.
>>97738823>and even better logistics. When you have literally the largest merchant marine fleet in human space plus endless money, you can get shit done.
>>97738748Full YAML silly.>>97738670good thing no pgi game takes place in the games current standard era.
>>97738773The problems with the clans are more social and industrial than military.Such an utterly ridiculously and unnecessarily miserable society doesn't even make sense as something that should work in-universe, much less be a technological leader and industrial powerhouse that can mass produce their advanced and supposedly expensive equipment.Imagine if the confederate states won the civil war because they were able to equip all of their front line troops with indigenously produced repeater rifles(that were produced with slave labor) and that non-slaves made up no more than 7% of the total population of the state.
>>97738842>Imagine if the confederate states won the civil war because they were able to equip all of their front line troops with indigenously produced repeater riflesif the confederates sucker punched the union armed with M1 garands and maxim guns, they would certainly do a lot better than they did in real life
>>97738829Yes, many thing are possible with bad writing. They must have got infinite money from sex slave cast.
>>97738861If they could invent those and produce enough to equip their army via slave labor, sure. But the only way they could do that would be the same way the clans managed to do it, which is an incompetent and unpaid fiction writer saying "they just do lol".
>>97738871the clans being more technologically advanced just means that their entire society is more productive in general
>>97738878Yeah, slaves are notoriously productive people. And slave-based societies are famously technologically advanced, as are people isolated from the rest of the world and only competing with themselves.
>>97738878Slavery gets shit done. Just ask Capellans.
>>97738894if a normal non-slave based economy had clantech, then they would likely outproduce one that ran on slaves by a wide marginbut having more advanced technology means that each worker is far more productive
>>97738911You keep ignoring the fact that a society that is isolationist and/or based on slavery isn't going to be inventing and implementing technology that surpasses the rest of the world in the first place.
>>97738920clans were able to dedicate much more time and effort into research without nuking population centers off the face of the galaxythe research was mostly for weapons, but they didnt turn down all the accidental civilian developments because that indirectly helped their military development
>>97738920>a society that is isolationist and/or based on slavery isn't going to be inventing and implementing technology that surpasses the rest of the worldThey will if they know what's good for 'em!
Weren't the majority of Terran Hegemony scientists whisked away in the Exodus or was that retconned?
>>97738932>clans were able to dedicate much more time and effort into research without nuking population centers off the face of the galaxyThey invented most clantech, started mass producing it and made it standard technology within the span of about 20-30 years. They did this while performing operation klondike and annihilating clan wolverine and also having only been a set of tiny colonies for a few decades.>but they didnt turn down all the accidental civilian developmentsClan laborer's have a life expectancy on par with some of the most impoverished states of 21st century earth.
>>97738946Many of them wasted away under Amaris. For example people who created the SDS system were all executed and the facility demolished to prevent SLDF from getting any information about it.
>>97738947Inner sphere science is running circles around clan science that spend 200 years polishing the same PPC.Turn out if comstar is too busy to backstab your scientists you can invent new weapons and develop power armor from scratch. In 20 years after the clan invasion IS created more innovation than clans did in 200.Clan tech becoming the standard is not an improvement, it's a writer crutch. Inner sphere would have outpaced clans long ago.Again, clans greatest and only strength is author sympathy.
>>97739018>Inner sphere science is running circles around clan scienceIS tech is still almost universally inferior to clantech by the time of ilclan.>clan science that spend 200 years polishing the same PPCCERPPCs were invented 21 years after the clans were founded and the inner sphere still hasn't made something better.>Turn out if comstar is too busy to backstab your scientists you can invent new weapons and develop power armor from scratchThat stopped immediately after the clan invasion and even before that comstar disruption operations were becoming increasingly ineffective, yet they still aren't able to match or surpass clantech in most fields after a century.>In 20 years after the clan invasion IS created more innovation than clans did in 200Sidegrades are not innovation.>the authors are lazy and incompetent and the clans are badly writtenYeah.
>>97739058Civil war and Jihad era tech should have been used to provide the IS with sidegrade technology but it was squandered. Imagine if the HPPC wasn't just a completely inferior version of the CERPPC but instead was more equivalent to HGauss; big weight fat damage but shorter ranged. Their best form of innovation was the RAC/5 and then the Clans copied it, and of course it was the Davions who made something meta.
good 'mechs badbad 'mecs good'simple as!
>>97739058Sorry I thought I heard you talking something stupid but it's hard to hear you over the RAC5s.There's a laundry list of technology invented during the 3050s and 3060s in the IS that is revolutionary, unique and superior to Clantech, but if you knew about it you wouldn't still be on this bitchy crusade. New types of armor, new types of structure, new weapons. I should know I've been neck deep in IS tech putting together availability lists for Chaos March. But 'myeh that doesn't count, it doesn't win every one-on-one fight and blow out the BV like a partial wing omni with pulse lasers; what are the IS even doing? sidegrade this sidegrade that'The only thing more irritating to me than people parading their ignorance around is when they declare it knowledge.
>>97739118>that is revolutionary, unique and superiorNone of those armor types are better than ferro lamellor. Though I guess its extremely likely their playtest nerf will be made official.
>>97739117No bad mechs, only bad commanders. If you have 4 urbanmechs in open terrain that is not the mechs fault, there was a serious fuck up that allowed it to happen in the first place.
>>97739129Hardened Armor entered service in the Federated Commonwealth in 3047 even if only in its prototype form. Clans wouldn't ape it for almost 50 years and it cannot even be used for their preferred Omnimechs.
>>97739118>RAC5sAn exception and you know it.>There's a laundry list of technology invented during the 3050s and 3060s in the IS that is revolutionary, unique and superior to ClantechAbsolutely delusional.IS tech is still generally inferior in the categories of armor, structure, engines, lasers, autocannons, gauss rifles, PPCs, LRMs and SRMs.Show me an IS engine that's superior or even equal to a clan XL engine. How about a clan ERPPC? How about clan endo steel?
>>97739197You have me there anon, if you cherry pick Clantech versions of Star League tech that was their explicit advantages in Operation REVIVAL AND pretend the Clans have access throughout history to everything they have in ilClan specifically copied out of the Inner Sphere AND ignore anything they still haven't replicated AND ignore any statistic for weapons other than Range (especially heat) AND completely write off any Word of Blake innovations explicitly wiped out (and a few that weren't), you're 100% correct, there is no way Inner Sphere technology can compete with...Wait a minute what the fuck is a Battle Value?
Time of War or Destiny?
>>97738920Not exactly the clans case since developing new technologies are science-caste duty. And they are only second to warrior-caste
>>97739197By 3150s IS can make their own "Clan" endo-steel, ERPPCs, and XLFEs. It's still mechanically considered Clantech since there really isn't much point to make separate stats for Clan ERPPC and Clan ERPPC (IS) that is identical in every way, but lore-wise they're made by IS corporations based on reverse-engineered Clantech designs.
>>97738920Based on what, shitlib? Your feelings? Slavery societies built the pyramids, aqueducts, great wall and colloseum.
>>97739290>cherry pickIt's not cherry picking when the examples of clantech being superior are more numerous than IS tech being superior.>Wait a minute what the fuck is a Battle ValueAn out of universe game mechanic that is completely unrelated to how anyone in battletech uses or values their equipment.
>>97739397There's that. On the other hand, it's manifestly true that societies that practiced chattel slavery tended to lag behind those built around wage labor after the Industrial Revolution, which was probably the biggest reason the South ultimately lost the American Civil War. It's also been argued by some historians that slavery was a big factor in the Roman Empire's own failure to industrialize, as they had access to scientific knowledge about things like steam power and clockwork mechanisms, but there simply wasn't the incentive to produce labor saving devices on a large scale because of the slave economy.
>>97739290>>97739416>>97739197Ladies, don't forget IS tech made at clan quality is still called clantech. We see a bunch of that by the Dark Age. All those fancy lasers in the Robinson Black Knight are homegrown Feddie Exostars.
>>97739416>slavery with extra steps is better than base slavery!Yeah making your slaves manage their own food and housing is a huge financial and administrative relief for the slave owners.
>>97739444>Roman Empire's own failure to industrialize,Abrahamic parasitism is the sole factor, with hebrew nonsense Rome would have made us an interplanetary species a thousand years ago.
>>97739459Without*Fuck.
>>97739459Christianity only because the dominant religion of Rome after the 3rd century crisis, at which point the empire already was down the crapper and barely holding together.Really, Rome kind of went to shit after Augustus died, as the imperial system he built never really worked well without him in charge. I mean, the following emperors after Augustus were Tiberius (couldn't give a fuck about actually running Rome and retired to Roman Epstein Island while his praetorian prefect became a dictator in all but name in his absence), Caligula ('nuff said), Claudius (actually pretty competent ruler, but he was an autistic nerd no nobody respected him), and Nero (also 'nuff said). Then you got like 3 guys holding the throne in one year before Vespasian took over and actually did a decent job, but soon after him you had yet another mad tyrant on the throne. The fact that "the Five Good Emperors" is even a thing should be an indication of the quality of the average emperor, as having five actually competent guys in a row was considered an unique and noteworthy occurrence.
>>97739459LMAOA living LARPer.Rome couldn't get itself out of constant civil wars after Marian reforms.
>>97739517>the infection doesn't mater until limbs start falling offUh-huh.Abrahamic rot is why a thosand years were spent destroying scientific and engineering progress, an entire millenium where the only respected "education" was torah study, where men who attempted to pursue science were mocked or just murdered. But that's totally not the reason progress was halted and reverse, no, not at all.Emperors were never responsible for discovery and invention if you hadn't noticed, that was all done by pagan scholars.
>>97739459>>97739463The sciences during the Roman Empire remained firmly in Greek hands, my friend. The Roman Empire and its successors (Catholic Church&East Rome) have a solid track record if putting hard brakes on the progress and/or the transmission of the sciences. It was the Germanics who lifted us into space. The Gauls dealt humanity a bad hand when they let Rome survive beyond 390 bc.
>>97739562You're not arguing against me here, greece was a part of rome, the foundation for its culture and religion.
>>97739444It's all about the people, man. North had a shit ton more bodies, and with the biggest iron-bearing formation in the country to equip them, so they won. The North had slave states like Maryland, themselves, and the Confederacy had a bunch of fancy tech like submarines, better rifles in the early war, ironclads, so on. South still fucked up a bunch of shit like not invading the North until the late war, not pressing several strategic advantages after fuckup battles, trusting they could offshore their warship production or keep their ports open, and also thinking they could leave peacefully in the first place. The basic math is still the same, just like Germany faltering on the Eastern Front. You wouldn't say the Germans lost because they had jew slave labor and were thus less-advanced.
Anyone try Mechwarrior Destiny? Is it any good or should I stick with Time of War?
>>97739551The greatest minds of the enlightenment and age of reason being Christian kinda underminds your take. Sounds more like you got a problem with doctrine.
>>97739609It is the general consensus that Mechwarrior 2nd Edition is the best RPG for Battletech. That said, AToW is at least mechanical and crunchy like Battletechism should be.
>>97737669Thank you master shake.
>>97739562>It was the Germanics who lifted us into space.Actually slavs.
>>97739610No, progress has been made despite hebrew nonsense, not because of it. Even the Apollo missions were heavily opposed by religious outcry. The native European religions didn't have a problem with scientific discovery, they encouraged it.
>>97739655>The native European religionsSuch as..?
>>97738198Shout out to the PGI infantry mod, it might not be a always pick for me but dragging a anti-personal small laser across a small group of solders and watching them flail around and burn like tissue paper is definitely kino.

>>97739609Destiny is very very light on all the things that make battletech battletech while time of war is very very heavy.I'd go with AToW if forced to choose.

I feel like manei dominei are more impressive than the elemental programI mean obviously its better to be an elemental(not culturally but to just have the genetic traits), but you have to be born one, anyone can be made into a super cyborg with mecha muscles with the right amount of cash and know how.Would you guys be okay with me running cyborgs in the ilClan era btw!also why the fuck do the belters even exist if they're gonna be so irrelevant
>>97739667could you give me a comparison on what atow is most similar to from other rpgs?I saw people say its kinda like traveler
>>97739684>Would you guys be okay with me running cyborgs in the ilClan era btw!I'd want a cool backstory for them, but why do you need our approval?
>>97739684Belters are just a fun little pet project of former Dev Herb Beas, and never meant to be important. Think of it like being in the pilot seat and getting to canonize your dudes. Also, MD tech is basically available to everyone, just not at scale. The dude who tried to kill George Hasek back in the 3060's had myomer implants and all that shit. So, you can definitely have it, and the CAF Ebony Magistrate does it at scale cough secret blakists. You're just gonna catch a shit ton of flack from the joes on the street and at the bar for being a cyborg monster.
>>97739709>Think of it like being in the pilot seat and getting to canonize your dudes. This isn't as exciting as you think, can confirm.
>>97739679If you're too uneducated for the discussion, you leave.
>>97739696It is kind of like Traveller in that the basic resolution mechanic is 2d6 + skill number and modifier from related attribute. It has lifepaths, but it's mechanically clunky and lacking in options compared to Traveller itself. It's way less clunky than MW3, which had a whole separate experience system only used for character creation with diminishing returns on translating it to actual gameplay experience numbers, so at least AToW doesn't require you to do that. But 3e also had a fuckload of new life paths added in all kinds of splatbooks, AToW has barely gotten anything.
>>97739772Oh, and biggest sin of all, the lifepaths don't have random events. That's half the fun of lifepaths. They're just modules you buy for your character. It still makes a good backstory, but it's missing the essence of the concept. Also in my experience, AToW characters made using lifepaths tend to have low stats. You can fix that by just handing out a few free +1s, but it is something to know.
>>97739662
>>97738296>There's something off about the way everyone talks, like they're in a bad commercial or something.I saw that video and the first thing I thought of was the loud, weirdly paced way that people talk on those shitty reality shows on cable where they look for saquatch or whatever. Just terrible.
>>97739810
>>97739129>playtestThe nerf only amounted to not being immune to AP ammo, which is not much of a nerf. Then again, with the boost AP ammo seems to be getting (unless the final form changes it back to garbage), you're certainly going to see that ammo around a lot more.
>>97739583The fancy tech the confederacy had access to they could not produce in quantity because their over reliance on unskilled slave labor and raw materials extraction or production meant automation and industry that could produce advanced equipment in quantity was rare.
>>97739571The Romans have no track record with the sciences, is my point. Progress effectively came to a stop when they took over.Afterwards, we took a thousand years, just to get back to where the Greek had been forced to stop in the mathematics alone.>>97739633Niggas as polish as the concentration camps.
>>97740265Where are the greek aqueducts?
>>97740117Because they had a shit ton less people, period. Again, it's like arguing the Germans couldn't produce enough Tigers because Germans used slave labor. Functionally, slaves were basically useless outside work for a select few upper class plantations other than the few freed for war late in the war. Their only relevance is that they reduce the functionally small population even further. You're also arguing the raw materials in ignorance. Where is the ironstone of the Clinton Formation, source of pretty much all major iron for centuries for the US? Is it in the South? Or is it pretty much just sandstone and shale once you hit Virginia? Now bodies-wise, freed slaves were a lot of bodies. You can see how instrumental that was in the western campaigns with the buffalo soldiers after the civil war.
>>97740314>Because they had a shit ton less peopleAnd working class immigration is discouraged by slavery while working class emigration is encouraged by it, making the problem even worse long term.
>>97740347Except the wild areas and deportation of american indians to Indian Territory got a shit ton of new blood in. Just look at the Czechs and Germans in Texas, not to mention all the people from northern areas. You mainly had climatic constraints on population back then. The heat, disease and way worse hurricanes than we have today in the little ice age kept the overall population down. Stack that on top of rural and wild areas having much less population density, and they just didn't have the people.
>>97736762They'd probably be shit anyway considering PGI insistence of treating all IS designs as having SHS.
>>97736762>reuse assetsThen chop up existing mechs and kitbash an STL, you already have the assets so reuse them.
>>97740314>>97740117If slavery were useless, the US would not have maintained and expanded it post-civil war.
>>97740406You're always going to get less people no matter what if they have to compete with people who literally work for free in basic jobs.
Mechwarrior 5 doing post-clan invasion content gives me hope that we'll get non-child proof celestial models some day.
>>97740530Not when that person costs the same as a Rolls Royce, today. Okay, more like a Tesla Cybertruck, but you get the idea. I have a book of commodities somewhere in my library that has the prices of everything sold in this county in 1852. There were exactly 3 slaves, all sold for about $2500 apiece. This was when a dollar a day was okay farmhand pay. That's a lot of years to get your money back. It only really worked out when you could have a lot that make more with each other for free. That was the plantation bullshit. Which, is pretty similar to the corpo bullshit of today, really.
>>97740590They were a little over a third of the population and slaves working in the cotton industry means they're directly competing with free labor.
>>97740623People were running their own subsistence farms if they could. Anything else was seasonal labor like fruit orchards in the south still do today. You may be competing for a share of the free market, but you weren't getting run out of a job on big mcfrenchname's farm. Rather, he was using them to grow his business and take over. Still, there was so much wilderness, that wasn't really an issue. There was plenty of room for everyone to expand. Even today, take a look at how much of the deep south is forest reserves, wildlife refuges and so forth. It's a very large percentage of the landmass.
I like mechs. The Catapult K2 is one of my favorites. How about you guys?

As a whole i’m thinking no omini mechs, no newer chassis/variants, lesser loved mechs (Jagermech, Banshee, Charger 1A) battle armor lance mixed with regular infantry, Frankenmech type refits (Cosmetic only) am I missing anything obvious /btg/?
>>97741091Regular infantry are actually very expensive, each man is a payroll entry. They're mostly used by big successful companies, specialist subcontractors, or weirdo operations that represent planetary patriots or other factions that aren't strictly profit driven.
Zyklon Blue basecoat for these bears
>>97741168Fair point, didn’t really take that into consideration, will have to go look into campaign ops and figure it out a bit more. Was thinking it would still be cheaper in the end to get foot soldiers with SRM’s vs the upfront cost on equipment plus its cost to maintain.
>>97741307You can get an entire platoon of BA for less than most XL engines cost. They really are the way to go if you must have infantry but aren't big enough to be packing an entire administrative department to handle HR and payroll.

>We knew the Jade Falcons—whether it’s a natural evolution of a character over time, whether it’s the Clan becoming a personification of Malvina Hazen writ large (kind of the opposite of an anthropomorphization), whether it’s character assassination against the dirty birdies, for whatever reason at this point in the story—the default Jade Falcon alignment as a Clan is pretty freaking chaotic evil. So that’s some guilt-free punching.

We love little bastards! >Who you run up against and some of how that campaign unfolds is based on the choices that you make in different spots, but I can say that there is a three-way conflict going on Thule. You’re not just dropped in the middle of a civil war. There is also incessant piratical raiding from a fellow named the Bearslayer, who was rejected by the Ghost Bears at some point in his trueborn MechWarrior career and has just had a chip on his shoulder about it ever since, and has been kind of hunting down members of hissibkoand wreaking havoc in Bear space, and has now set his sights on Thule. There’s this kind of long-running pirate raid going on, and you’ve got to deal with that too.

do you guys prefer glow or jeweling for cockpits?
>>97742246>>97742314I'll admit as someone who originally was fascinated by the idea, getting a few breakdowns and discussion on the matter has made me appreciate the current system more. >>97746205It was the FWL that had to yank PPC's from their Maruaders to keep Warhammer production lines with PPC's, ...only then to get a retcon of Thug production specifically with a giant depot of Warhammer PPC's.
>>97746227The cap warhammer is the hothammer, which trades the MG for Flamers and is pretty sweet.
>>97746146>Didn't know a PPC is that hard to procureThe order of easy to make and easy to get in the SW is.1. MG's and AC52. Missiles, flamers and larger caliber AC's.3. Lasers.4. PPC'sWith PPC's at the apex end.
>>97746205Nobody was downgrading Warhammer PPCs. FWL and Capellans were both downgrading Marauders. FWL dropped both PPCs for LLs, which arguably makes sense given it makes the heat buildup a lot more manageable. Capellans have the odd "we ran out of PPCs halfway through construction" variant with a PPC in one arm and LL in the other.

>>97746290Crazy thing. They weren't actually short on DHS. They just prioritized them to Aerospace if you can believe it. They finally get enough for both in the late-3050's. That's when you get retrofits like the Panther 10K2.
>>97746146If that's the Scorpion guy, the only known manufacturer of his specific PPC model is Brigadier on Oliver, which is a heavily contested FWL planet that's constantly being raided and/or invaded and is run by a military junta. how rare are the fusion tanks like pattons, manticores, and von luckners?I thought the point of combat vehicles was they're cheaper and more common than mechs, at least initially, but doesn't having fusion engines undermine that? Also are mercenary companies that make use of tanks and infantry redlining constantly? It doesn't seem like solid armor or infantry is that much cheaper and you have a way larger logistical tailhow much more availability really is there to that stuff?is making a merc company of armor and infantry retarded?
NEW FAG HERE, NEED HELP!playing 1st game against my bro (who knows even less than me). Im brraking my brain trying to figureout what the highlighted area (see pic) means for infantry. Max weapon damage? To what? Max weapon damage i can take?? Wtf
>>97747193I havnt played with infantry in a while and I probably wouldnt be playing with it for your first game. If I remember correctly thats the max ammount of damage the infantry can do to mechs and vehicles. So if the unit you have shown has all 28 people, then the max ammount of damage it can do is 15. if 5 people die and it is reduced to 23, then it can do a max of 12 damage, the infantry damage is calculated by rolling on a cluster table. and I can't remember where that cluster table is so good luck finding that one.for infantry shooting at other infantry im pretty sure its the same but the cluster roll isnt for damage but just for the number of troops killed/wounded or whatever. Again I havnt played with infantry in a long time so i might be wrong about half of this
>>97747185>I thought the point of combat vehicles was they're cheaper and more common than mechsGiven the same engine and weaponry, a 100 ton tank is still only two thirds the cost of an atlas AS7-D.
>>97747193That's the amount of damage that many men do. If the whole platoon is alive, you roll a cluster 28, which says how many of them hit. The highlighted number is how much damage those men do, in groups of 2.

>>97747437dipper galaxy?
>>97747624You get a small bonus to hit and if there's open locations, you can get more critical hits. I wouldn't bother shooting cluster at something that's still protected by armor unless I was relying on that to-hit bonus to land the shot.
>>97747727so it needs to be paired with a more reliable weapon and then used as a finisher?

>>97747438Thank you. Say, if my center torso internal structure drops to 0 then my mech is wrecked/dead right?
>>97747742Well it can also just shoot in solid mode to break armor. They get better range than normal ACs so less shots are at long range and more at short.
>>97747786Yes. Completely destroyed, can't be recovered.
>>97747773Bristles from a toothbrush.
>>97747786Yes/No.It really depends on how the mech was destroyed. If it was detonated via ammo explosion the likely hood of salvaging the mech is practically impossible. If you lost or destroyed the mech via weapon fire and just core the mech without damaging anything else the mech can be salvaged.
>>97747701Ursa Major, the Great Bear of the Cosmic Hunt, posited origin of the Haakenkreuz.
>>97747185>I thought the point of combat vehicles was they're cheaper and more common than mechs, at least initially, but doesn't having fusion engines undermine that?I mean it's a fusion engine, you can at least use them as auxiliary generators.>>97747624>>97747727>I wouldn't bother shooting cluster at something that's still protected by armor unless I was relying on that to-hit bonus to land the shot.It helps when swatting Lights.
>>97747839That depends on what rules your using though right? I was hashing out a rule packet earlier out of Campaign Ops and I seem to recall somewhere that if the CT was zero'd it was 'Truly Destroyed'?Asking cause I actually kinda do need to know. Working through the SP math for things I realize fucking players on repairs could easily make things more of a slog than it has to be.
>>97748132You're right. CT destroyed counts as chassis destroyed. In most campaigns, people will allow you to salvage intact limbs and stuff from them, but the basic mech is gone.
Rear armour should be independent of front armour, and should have the same limits as the front armour.A 100 t assault having to ponce around with rear torso armour so thin an errant fart goes internal, combined with slow speeds of 3/5...You get way more mileage out of just bring8ng a whole.bunch of faster, more mobile mediums and heavies instead. The assault really seems to be an anchor around your neck.Clan spess woof furrys bring a dire woof?Clan green birds zooms two dashers/firemoth past and dumped their elemental stars on the dire woof butthole. They then proceed to stay in its asshole shooting it.Its why jumper mechs are SUCH a force multiplier. The advantage of jumpers cannot be overstated. And my favourite.mech is 6/9 ffs. But even I must admit, the jumpers take the cake.
>>97748297>They then proceed to stay in its asshole shooting itNot if they lose initiative they don't. You're also ignoring that no-one is going to bring a single direwolf, it's going to have starmates to screen for it. If the firemoths get to the direwolf at the back of the board before dying to a single clpl? Sure, the dire wolf may be in trouble. That's a big if, tho. You're also generally overstating the advantages of jumpers pretty heavily, and ignoring the heat, tmm, and weight drawbacks, not to mention the hefty BV tax. If you can get to where you need to without jumping, that's almost always the superior option. But most people are kinda bad at positioning, so JJs seem like a magic fix-all to bad gameplay.
>>97748359Not him but JJ's are way superior if you have any major terrain or your chassis rides the heat curve pretty hard.
>>97747742Wait till I tell you about the Summoner Prime.
