D&D thread. If you hate d&d, might as well turn away nowPlease tell me I'm not crazy. I remember when very briefly Bugbears had compound eyes (much like an Umber Hulk) and could force you to make a fear save if you looked at them. Am I right that this actually existed or am I just losing it? I thought this was an actual thing for them for years but I cannot find any evidence for it. I'm going fucking crazy, yeah?
>>97738399By D&D thread, you mean 5e exclusively?
>>97738459Nah. I mean any edition. I have ran and played all of them (I have my favorites yeah)
>>97738399I am not familiar with that. Whenever there's arcane lore about monsters, I assume it came from back when Dragon Magazine was awesome, but I don't think that Bugbears ever got a Monster Ecology entry.I love me some old D&D. What's your favorite setting? My two picks are the Astromundi Cluster in Spelljammer, and the Bloodstone Lands (the far northeastern corner of the forgotten realms, in Vaasa and Damara and Impultr).
>>97738493Hm. Tough one. I love Ravenloft and Mystara but I have a lot more that I couldn't live without
>>97738399Think you're losing it bro. That definitely wasn't a thing in adnd or 3.5e.
>>97738399Might have been a runequest thing. Its been a while.
>>97738399> Fear save
>>97738399>If you hate d&d, might as well turn away nowWhy are you incapable of handling an opposing opinion?
>>97739194Well OP's image is of a Jack-O-Bear.A Runequest creature.
>>97739233Ok save vs spell but it was classified as a feast effect for things that were immune to fear(specifically) but not spells(generally) Is that better for you? Save vs rods, staves, wands? Save vs death magic? I can do this shit all day, anon
>>97739282I'm not incapable of it, just warning you what it is, and that's it. No ulterior motive
>>97739972>feast effectlol
>>97739523Yeah I realized that too late
>>97739990Ok you can start crying about it now. Feel free. Over a typo. Pedantic af but you do you
>>97739980So then you must know that if you have a problem with D&D, the only solutions are>ask your DM for what you want>don't play D&D>find a new group>rewrite what you don't likebecause any concerns with actual game design are deflected by its fans and detractors alike. And you probably know you'd have better reception from one of the many dedicated generals for D&D, instead of adding yet another D&D thread to the board. If you don't know these things, you'd either have to be new here, or are being purposely obtuse.Just thought I'd give you a friendly heads-up, because I'm not the only one who's going to see the bullshit for what it is.
>>97740000I'm not even the Anon you replied to.Are you really going to get butthurt I laughed at your amusing typo, that you could have easily prevented by reading your post before hitting the Post button?Holy shit, what a child. You should get off the internet instead of acting like a tough guy.
>>97740044I just wanted a generic thread, a agnostic thread. If the mods didn't like it, they are free to delete it anytime and I won't get bent out of shape about it. Idk why you are. If it offended you so much, you are free to do literally whatever else you like but I suspect you know this. So that points to one motive. You're not that clever nor are you really that important. Your sensibilities are irrelevant. Feel free to report my threads as much as you like. I have several that I'm tending to and you can report those too. They follow the rules, and are decent quality threads. So maybe you should cry about it.
>>97740077But your the one bitching about it. I'm home sorry making the typos on purpose just to trigger little old you
>>97740178This sure sounds like someone who can handle an opposing opinion.
>>97740178Right, well, I just thought I'd give some insight on the kinds of responses I got when trying to talk about D&D.Sorry you got offended by it. Have a better day, and try to unbunch your panties.
>>97740338>>97740188You guys lookin' for an upvote? What do you get out of this? OP wanted to talk about D&D and you wanted to... proclaim that you made someone angry on the internet? Like to what end?
>>97738464Why is this gay cleric smiting someone with his walking stick instead of his mace? Is he stupid?
>>97740044The op is asking for a specific monster, from the game dungeons and dragons, you absolute sperg.
>>97740480Yes, considering I ran every edition, I figured that was intrinsic knowledge. I forgot where I am, nogames capital of the known world where almost everyone talks shit about things they have no clue about
>>97740538Yeah I thought that was strange and then I realized he just wants to be a d&d bugaboo. I could just talk about elven dietary habits and he will somehow turn it into a way to bitch and moan about d&d. You can't make this shit up
>>97740538I'm glad the people who always gave me those responses when I tried talking about D&D were dismissed and called spergs.Great consistency. But you'll just deflect and le ebin greentext "/tg/ Is Da SaMe PeRsOn" without addressing the spirit of the point.Try not getting butthurt because nobody wants to talk about your shitty nongame any more, from LITERAL YEARS of being dismissed by both HYTNPD&D detractors and Oberoni fellators.
>>97740363Anecdotal evidence but duly noted
>>97741076What the fuck are you talking about? This reads like a schizophrenic fecalphiliac wrote it. It literally addresses nothing. Holy shit. Are you a shut-in? Do you sleep with the lights on? I bet you eat postage stamp glue
>>97741188Tell me what the "Oberoni fallacy" is, and tell me what HYTNPD&D stands for.You can't, because that will prove me right.
>>97742027No, I won't and that's the critical difference. You're a mongrel with no actual games experience and I will get little to no value interacting with you but the keks over your obvious mental instability, the quality of being unsteady, unbalanced, or unpredictable, characterized by a lack of firmness or a tendency to change rapidly. For more help, press 9. For meds, press 1.C'mon press 1. We all want you to press 1 so we don't have to fresh with your pat, meme answers that come so readily to you
Faggot orgy thread lmao.
>>97741076Oberoni was objectively right.
>>97742583Look out, the faggot expert is here. He knows all things pertaining to faggotry. How's that working out for you, champ
>>97740044OP doesn't have a problem with dnd, he wants to know something about dnd. Work on your reading comprehension you ESL autist.Man, I really hope this thread is the result of someone's shitpostbot misfiring.
>>97744505Op here. I was just trying to find out if I had imagined the bugbear thing, that's all
>>97740466Could just be activating any number of staff like magic items, or that could be a staff of striking if you specifically hitting someone with it
>>97738399I have never heard of this in any version of D&D
>>97747317Thank you for the confirmation. I want to think it might have been in a module but I've played so many I have no clue which one it could be.
>>97738493Speaking of ME, was that ever put into a single volume/pdf/whatever?
>>97747317You don't remember very well >>97738399Yes umber hulks have a confusion gazem. I'm at work or I would check for you in which edition it is, but you are not going crazy, that's definitely a real thing
>>97747445Then point out where it's from. None of the core Monster Manuals have it.
>>97747517It's literally in the first edition monster manual, you illiterate buffoon
>>97748173It in fact is not. Are you thinking he is looking for an umber hulk? He isn't, he is looking for a bugbear with eyes like am umber hulk.
>>97740178That's what the general threads are for.
>>97748207My bad I'm drunk as fuck and I misunderstood his post
>>97748279That's fair. Whatcha drinking?
>>97747358No, unfortunately
>>97747445No you're right about the umber hulk but I was talking about the bugbear having the faceted eyes of an umber hulk (insect like) and forcing a fear effect on anyone who met their gaze
>>97748234I didn't find one for an agnostic d&d topic and I looked a few times just to make sure
>>97749001Now that I understand the topic, I also feel like I have seen this somewhere but I can't for the life of me figure out where I've seen this. I might be wrong about this, but I'm remembering it being something comedic, I think it might be from one of the D&D parody books, like maybe the munchkin monster manual? >>97748626I like Cuba libre, it's a rum and coke with a squirt of lime
>>97753009I want to say a module because I've not ever found it in a MM, compendium, compendium annual, nothing. It was played straight and I want to see it was in 0d&d book. I fuzzily remember a BnW picture but I just can't trust my memory anymore like that. It was a one off I think? I remember getting the 1e MM and looking at the bugbear entry and also looking for that fear effect and being like wtf? Did I misread it? It's stupid but I thought I'd ask the experts because it's bugged me for years and I often wondered if I just misunderstood it
>>97753177Oh and that it caused the fear effect because it had a very spider-like face, along with the spider fangs and compound eyes like a fly. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
>>97738464>I have ranI have RUN, you fucking mongoloid.
>>97755085Pedantic fuck. You should try crying about it
>>97755085Oh, you're wrong. Go figure. Ran is past tense. Run is present tense, you big crybaby
>>97740466>cleric >smite He's actually being beneficent. When you're that much taller than everyone else you have to gently tap your pet lobster into combat otherwise it spoils the potato crop and Mcains gets all fucked in your face.
>>97757856I hate the ultra-faggy Vicious Mockery Bard ability from 5e, it's pure Reddit. But the one time I'd accept it is when a Chad stops during combat to rest his drink or something on the head of a manlet/dwarf/hobbit. I could see the manlet withering in shame as he realizes "I could kill this giant but the females of my species will still literally look at his corpse and say Yeah... but he sure was tall."
