do ttrpg characters count as OCs? if so who are your favorite OCs you've made? if not why are they not OCs in your opinion?
>>97749240>do ttrpg characters count as OCs?Majority of them do, but some people play as premade characters, especially in one-shots or introductory games. And other people's OCs aren't really interesting, so that's all I'm going to say on the topic.
What a retarded question. What you should actually be asking is, do ttrpg characters count as waifus/husbandos
>>97749240Yes>>97749495Yes
Nigga 99.999% of TTRPG characters are Mary Sues by virtue of the genre. TTRPG stories are the absolute worst fanfic garbage, thankfully ttrpg is intended to be a game you play with a group of likeminded peers and not stories you read or listen to.
>>97749240Technically they are OCs since you are making a character for someone else's universe. My personal favorite was a Changeling Paladin I made for an Eberron game who was on a journey for revenge against an unknown assassin who kill their best friend. She wears the face of said friend hoping the assassin will try again and to prevent any war that might come about from the murder of a high noble.
>>97749240What's wrong with OC? Are you too prude and afraid of being cringe to make your own characters? Maybe you should go a step ahead and not only pay the GM to pay someone else to make your own character.
>>97749240This is some next-level filler thread
>>97749568I don’t see how, unless your definition of Mary sue is “anyone that isn’t a retarded illiterate inbred no-name peasant”
>>97749240Definitionally, yes. They are Original Characters. However, if they don't exist for the creator outside of the game (fanart, stories, RP I guess) then they aren't an OC in the way that furfags and ERPers who spend thousands of dollars on commissions of their OC with tits the size of the good year blimp are OCs.
>>97749240has to be my shadowrun character, Hubert (pronounced Uber) who was a getaway driver. It took 12 sessions for the GM to go "Wait did you really just name him-- argh nevermind" in a defeated tone
>>97750060Great runner name ngl
>>97749240My favorite TTRPG character I've made is one of my current ones. Her name is Chicora, she's a Pureblooded Saiyan in an alternate timeline during the Dragonball Era who worked for the Cold Force as a mechanic from youth after she was picked up from a desolate, moonless planet by a Cold Force Captain (she was sent there because she has the same mutant gene as Broly does in the main canon) and had a sharp mind, but spent her youth internalizing the racism towards Saiyans the Cold Force espoused (she was around 10 years old when the planet was destroyed in this timeline but was so isolated she didn't know until later) which has led to her being as anti-saiyan as possible. Generally collected, focused, intelligent, and with no lust for battle. However, her temper occasionally flared and usually led to reckless, violent behavior, something she is aware of and it fed into her not wanting to fight. When the party got our asses beat by eighter at baba's (he was working for her) she told us to train with Roshi (who isn't a huge pervert in this timeline) and so we did, and he tried to espouse the virtue that she didn't have to view violence as the only part of her true nature as a Saiyan using some of those macaque monkeys, the red and white ones. She even found out Gine survived instead of Goku (he hadn't been moved to the birthing pod when she left, and due to something that happened in space Gine miscarried, so there is no goku in this timeline) and started properly learning about her race's history and culture (Bardock is assumed alive as is Raditz, as per Gine). We've also been traveling with Puar who we met mimicking yamcha earlier, who was looking for yamcha (this is important btw), and he's sort of been in her care for most of the game, oddly enough she's been the most empathic of the party.
>>97750162The whole thing roshi tried to teach her, however, backfired spectacularly within the last few sessions as she had her No Good Very Bad Day>Was called a man by Bulma, who is currently seeking the dragon balls of which we had 2>Had a bit of an emotional breakdown traumadump at a bar when she got drunk on roshi's tab>Was kicked out of said bar after a fight with some carrot gang remnants (we killed boss carrot earlier and scattered the gang) because she broke some furniture in the fight>Had some friction with the party the next day because she wasn't talking about her own concerns about her anger management issues which led to a confrontation in the first round of the tournament (the one goku fights tien in during the canon) with the tank in the party (a fish alien that looks like a really buff humanoid tuna naked Ahi) who was about to finally get answers when...>Yamcha - now Cyborg 9 of the Red Ribbon (Bow? I think the name is different in this timeline) Army after he got winter soldier'd because we fucked off to train for a year in game - cuts off her tail, has crane assassins and red ribbon soldiers hold up the arena for the dragon balls, and then punts puar which...>Leads to her finally losing her shit and just letting go of the reigns on her anger, leading to her entering Ikari/Wrathful and going on a schizo rampage where she acts more like a "true" saiyan, kills like 4 mooks, almost kills Yamcha with the help of one of the other PCs (he escaped), then almost kills ANOTHER another PC (a cyborg arcosian/freiza race character) and Puar AND the world tournament announcer with one of her AoE attacks>Piccolo (who is already good and more in line with his DBZ self in this timeline and has been helping Bulma) steps in, and basically one-taps my character to knock her outNext session she's gonna wake up and it's not gonna be great for her mental. But I love torturing characters I make and like, be they PCs or NPCs so y'know.
>>97749240They only turn to be OCs when you draw them on the portrait box. If you commision other people, prompted an image using AI, it isn't OC.
>>97750526what if i draw it then comission art of it?
>>97749568>99.999% of TTRPG characters are Mary Sues by virtue of the genre>NiggaCan you justify this, you illiterate hick? Because as from my point of view, it's impossible for most ttrpg characters to be MS (assuming r they're playing by the rules). The mere fact that their fate is largely up to the whim of an unbiased system, rather than a self-inserting author, makes this a given.
>>97749568Nigga TTRPG characters are by definition not Mary Sues in any game that even makes the smallest amount of sense. If the PCs have to operate on similar game rules as NPCs, then they're automatically precluded from the most common of Mary Sue pitfalls.
>>97749568You don't know what a Mary Sue is.
>>97750162>>97750185What system is your dm using for this game? Also did you draw the chicora art?
>>97749240They are OCs in the literal sense of being characters originally made by their players. They are also OCs in the traditional sense; characters made by one author to inhabit and interact with the world of another author. But these days when someone says "OC" what they usually mean is a character developed not as a part of a story but rather for the author's own enjoyment. Today, an OC is character of your own design that you spend a lot of time thinking about but one who has no actual narrative purpose.
My favorite character was the Warforged Necromancer. He was a real asshole with a shady goal. Unfortunately he was disintegrated before he could accomplish anything lol.
>>97754055>What systemMy own, Dragon Arts, uses d6 pools for combat and 3d6 + Modifier for skill checks. I'm not big on the utter insanity that is DBU and speaking bluntly its sheets are a laggy mess of unoptimized garbage. And yeah I did. I actually knew about Winter Soldier'd yamcha ahead of the curve because the GM commissioned me for the art he used for it.
>>97757967>me for the art he used for it.kewl. You got a blog or socials? Really liked your style
>>97758022I mean I don't really do much actual art, mostly just character stuff be it OCs or TTRPG characters. Most of my twitter - the only real thing I post on and even then I mostly have it to follow actual artists I enjoy - is the closest thing to that I really have I guess? But again it's mostly unsolicited opinions and other art I slap retweet on with some of my own stuff added.https://x.com/smug_coffee_man
>>97757967Share it dude.
>>97758792Do note a lot of stuff in the experimental changes is being tested, namely the first version of transformations and the Tier of Play system. I would STRONGLY reccomend the first version of transformations in that doc though, because it rebalances ALL transformations around Super Saiyan, meaning transformations of the same tier as a type of Saiyan transformation will math out to be the same rough level of power and feel a lot better for non-Saiyan players. The Twin Passives Power just got buffed to give the bonuses of both Passive "Transformations" (thinks like divine ki, unlocked potential, Mutant Gene which lets you get some Arcosian transformations and the LSSJ stuff, and a few others like class ups from that one video game that was on I think the 3DS or Vita, legends? The one with beat and note I think) since you normally get one and the power is 4 of your precious points it was agreed by the group that it should get buffed.Experimental doc also has rules for the Glind (Supreme kai, Daima stuff) and Shadow Dragons (GT).https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1lPzhg3TZ02LL9OKpL5WAC6wIga76KGx3?usp=drive_linkPersonally, I recommend using Z or Super tier, Classic is really meant for DB Classic games and it does feel kinda rough but that's sorta the point I suppose since characters there are more grounded-ish/weaker before Z got to planet buster levels.
>>97749240They don't, OCs are what I play in f-list.
It's not true in the sense of being correct, but my opinion is that tabletop characters don't count as OCs because they actually do things instead of just existing as forum avatars or a pile of endless backstory and deviantart sketches with no future and barely a present.Good tabletop characters, at least. I have seen plenty of OC-like backstory piles that don't do anything in the game in my time.
