Question of the Thread: How does a mech get deployed? Is it carried by helicopter, on the back of a large land-hauler, launched from a catapult, or does it arrive under its own power?

Hey there Anons - sorry I haven't updated in so long. I am still working on a full-on 1.0 version of the game, but life is not easy and finances aren't great. It means that most of my free time is spent on trying to find stable employment, which doesn't leave me with a lot of time to spend on gamedev. I do however have some info on what has been added and what is in process of being added:

>FINISHED OR MOSTLY FINISHED
Rules for different terrain types as well as weather effects.
Rules for entering your MCS, powering up your MCS, powering down your MCS, and exiting your MCS.
A massive section for everything out of combat including contracts, negotiations, methods of arrival on the battlefield, LANCEHOUND reputation and striking fear into your enemies, as well as rules for parts maintenance, parts repairs and sourcing ammunition.
Another section on building your own mercenary company, recruiting support personnel as well as combat personnel to turn it into a wargame if you wish.
A section on the roleplaying part of it all, of what places you'll commonly encounter as well as the colourful cast of characters that crew watering holes, workshops and clinics.

>STILL IN PROGRESS
A big section for enemies, both non-MCS and MCS, as well as a segment letting a GM quickly generate a unique enemy LANCEHOUND with their own personality quirks and abilities.
A rework of the Devil's Due system, including working the Skill Biases system into it as an anon suggested in the previous thread.
An equipment list for the pilot, including on-foot weapons, drugs that can send you into death by overdose, body armour, powered exoskeletons, and all that jazz.
An actual lorebook for the setting, so that if you're not interested in pillaging the system for your own use, there's a ready-made game setting, the Howling Age, for you to use.

These sound kickass. Really excited to see these. Is there some way we can kick a few bucks your way?
>>
>>97753598
I'm interested in what the lore for this world looks like. I'm thinking something AC4-ish?
>>

Keep your money, anon. You need it more than I do. Everything I make is open source and I'm not interested in monetizing it in any way what so ever. But I'm very glad you're interested, anon.

>>97755961
V/Verdict Day, actually, which is connected to 4 and For Answer but I'm not interested in having NEXT-likes. At least not for now, I'm going for a sand and steel setting.

I will always love when the mech or support vehicles are deployed out of hidden underground hangars that cause a part of the city to transform to allow them egress. Like in Thunderbirds, Evangelion, etc. Just the idea that this was all built into the infrastructure amuses me and the launch scenes are cool.

Very excited for this. I think the Devil's Due is a super interesting system and has huge potential to lead to really hype narrative moments while still being mechanically interesting. Very much looking forward to it.

Nice, whats the group up to so far?
>>
>>97758676
The group just landed on the planet Turf (Harrison Armory subsidiary world that struck a massive amount of McGuffinite) that’s being invaded by The House of Stone to claim said material. They’re just getting settled in and went out with their Everests for the first time, and they chose to do a job for the Green Flag Militia that needed them to destroy battery relays powering a planet-to-space Railgun that HA turned on militia positions. They barely managed to destroy the last battery before the last round, and they enjoyed it so far.
Unfortunately, Compcon is pretty fucking ass in a lot of ways, and I really wish I had a way to print character sheets.

Catapult or Submarine launched is my favorite

Our table is 4'x6' but we've also played on 4'x4' pretty often.

Since we want the rules to be scale agnostic, all measurement whether it's movement or attack range measure from center to center, so it's the same distance whether it's a 1/144 model or a 1/400 mini.

For buildings in the previous image we were using foldable cardstock buildings from DropZone Commander which are pretty tall. We also use N Scale buildings too like picrel.

As for ranges, warships, snipers and some artillery start the game already in range to attack. Most other weapons are around 24" but since the mobile suits are, well, mobile, you have a lot of flexibility to get into and out of range with your two move actions every turn.

There are also some other bonus factors where you want to be closer than just max range like being in rapid fire range or getting a target lock from sensors.
>>
>>97673097
You can also just reuse 40k terrain

Circling back to this, any sort of side quest ideas and the like for the group to get into? It’s been a bit of a challenge trying to get some RP stuff in with the mercenary setting as they’re mainly existing at their base waiting for jobs to head out on, and then return from.
>>
>>97766874
Maybe some small R&R time could help. Get your characters down to a bar or dance club. Something for them to express hobbies. You could even have it tie into some of the jobs like insider info leeks.

What's your story tension level at? If they've been spending a lot of time waiting for things to happen, restful R&R might be the wrong move, and >>97768864 could be good.

Someone tell the Assemble designer he can trace over 2d picture for the sword profile, instead he made the most hideous rendition of the Schwert Gewehr. The barrel of the Launcher Strike is also wrong.

Not too sure it’d be fitting with the tone. The players are all new and are military, so not sure how well it’d go over. The whole planet is embroiled in multi-front war as well.

People are claiming Gundam's default tournament mode is 3v3, meaning the idea is that any expansion is an off-the-shelf ready list.

I would've thought that too small to be compelling, but people playing with the revealed stuff on TTS keep saying it's fun.
>>
>>97778009
3 battleships will be meta unless there're restriction.
>>
>>97777950
Have the amphibious assault team also be cute girls in bikinis and they can all get along if they want to :)
>>
>>97777950
Hmm, I'm starting to understand why RP isn't too forthcoming. It sounds like you have a difficult mix of high tension but slow action. If the players are not pushing their personal stories, they may be waiting on the tension in the story to break. Consider pushing harder towards a resolution and a story climax (which will naturally disperse tension), rather than pulling back and giving them opportunity to relax (which may feel like wasted time).

Military and wartime stories can be very difficult with new players, because they rely on the GM to set the tone, direction, and the pace rather than on the players (who may feel like it's not safe to relax and RP because they are expecting the situation to be changed at any moment).
>>
>>97777950
>>97778754
Yeah, I'd vote for not doing a filler side quest in that scenario, if I were a player. You can, of course, create an objective that, even if pursued in the most efficient way, necessarily leaves them with free time. Like waiting for a special order weapon to be delivered, or for capacitors to charge over the course of a day or two. That way they know for sure that there isn't more that they *can/should be doing* in the moment, and they might feel like they can take a breath and relax, talk to each other, decide how to approach a shared long term objective, and the like.

There might be restrictions on battleships, yeah. AFAIK team building is freeform for the most part, though, just that you can't run multiple of the same unit unless it's got "mass produced".

But 3x of the White Base we saw would be pretty aggressively terrible, anyways, being locked to TL5. I think it'll play out like Battletech, where you have to agree with your local group if you're going to play larger games (5v5) or have some sort of themed event or some thematic restriction above the "pick-3" tournament baseline.
>>
>>97778754
>>97778914
Sidequests are one thing, but I’m also referring to just more RP opportunities in general where they get to use their skill triggers.
>>
>>97779675
Oh, in that case, it might help to pick and specift which skill triggers you're trying to create opportunities for, or else we won't know what kind of suggestions are appropriate.
>>
>>97779675
>>97779754
If it's really more of a trawl for generic ideas, maybe watch some mecha anime or a war documentary to get inspired.
>>
>>97778131

5v5 is officially supported. It's just not the default tournament format, is word on the street.

Six years ago I started working on my own mecha RPG. I just released it publicly today.

It's a d%/d10 system with a mekton-style system for creating mecha and a strong focus on military and mercenaries. No levels, no xp, no classes. Primary means of getting stronger is getting better equipment and using them, as it should be. Mecha are the main focus, but the game enables play for a wider range of entities as well. Comes bundled with a setting but can reasonably be adapted for other purposes. Rules medium, most work is front loaded/between sessions; actual play does not have a particularly dense mechanical lift. Released for free, 350 pages (with a paid version that contains artwork). It's on itch and drivethru probably next week.

Okay guys, my party is locked in the next mission (exploring a derelict ship for pirates to let them know what’s here to take and if it’s safe) and I plan on introducing one of the villainous mercenary factions, Crimson Chorus, which are comprised of rogue NHPs that don’t work for money, but rather for more subtle things like agreements for tech shipments and changings of laws. Since I don’t like how the players can just get an NHP through their loicense, I want to introduce as three NHPs the party can get as NPCs that are reoccurring and can eventually plug into their mech. First one up is SEKHMET from the Blackbeard, with a berserker personality. How can I make her intro and ensuing fight be max horror and unsettling in this abandoned ship, as well as why she’s here? The mission will have 2 battles by the way.

I remember checking yours out a couple of years ago. Looked very sweet - glad to see you got it completely done! Congratulations.
