Only cute titans allowed in the legio

Enough with lamenting about the failings and shortcomings of 3.0. Let's capitalize on the wins of this new edition.
Cataphractii can now snapfire the squads fleeing them, hitting on 5+ at that. Rhinos are both useful and no longer made out of papier mache.
That's nice.

>>

"Master of Descent was a type of specialist position in the Legiones Astartes during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.

These officers were those who had a special talent for the coordination of planetary landing operations and Drop Pod assaults. They descending the battlefield in Jump Packs, they employed high-gain communication and scanning equipment to conduct initial probing attacks on enemy positions weakened by bombardment, as well as coordinating waves of troops. Only once their forces landed would they commit themselves to battle."

The most important aspect of a master of descend is their talent and experience organising and commanding mass combat drops, not what equipment they bring. Could even just make a jump pack marine that you painted some fancy markings on to use as your master of descend.
The Dropsite Massacre novel described this very well, it was a surprisingly decent book.

Whirlwind Hyperios/Hunters are for taking out aerial transports and attack craft, Stalkers are for taking out incoming missiles

the rules never really reflected that - 40k isn't very good at representing just how much shit is in the air at any one time, and the only AA/flak guns tend to be used against flyers, or misused against ground targets - but in terms of the current rules it would be like giving a ward save either within a bubble or by Reaction (or both), rather than a direct shooting attack, but only against Missile/Guided Missile-tagged weapons because there isn't an Artillery Cannon Trait

on a Rhino-sized, Predator/Whirlwind-priced unit, it wouldn't be the worst thing to have back
>>
>>97755346
Thats not really a viable niche. I would just have it get "free interception", it doesent have great guns, but its good for taking shots at any incoming infantry or whatever.
>>
Remember Ingethel?
>>
>>97755186
Acquire confidential information of interest to the Chinese government, the girlfriend will come to you shortly.
>>
>>97755399
If it were vs missiles and Barrage (X) it would make sense; problem is there's an intercept time, so at that point you're trying to make it granular enough that it can deal with anything from mortar shells to guided artillery to autonomous drone-missiles without seeming insanely fast (intercepts a shot from a metre away) to pretty much useless (can only intercept over a certain range)

you could give them explosive shells - so they can intercept other types of weapon by detonating something in the path of a beam or whatever to dissipate the energy of the incoming shot - but it's a question of whether that would seem realistic in the game about bad dreams taking over the universe via proxies who know everything except when they're being manipulated, or whether it drives the playerbase back to Havok and sets the world up for 20 years of the Polly Pocket/Mighty Max Cinematic Universe

I'm all for it (fuck Havok)

Literally abandons the mobile strike philosophy of astartes for the lumbering advance of mortals.
>>
>>97756140
>>Now a fucking plane crashes on the runway
Like, why?
>>
>>97756432
the first mention of the Kratos, years before the model, marks it as an older tank mostly retired from service by the heresy

the half dozen guns thing is normal for 40k tanks ever since sponsons got normalised by the first vehicle kits
>>
>>97756386

>>
>>97756484
>older tank mostly retired from service by the heresy
The Malcador is faster :^)
What if Kratoses were M10? At least that way they'd keep pace with Land Raiders.
Say, why did almost all vehicles lose 2" of movement speed actually?
>>
>>97756549
To make movement somewhat meaningful within the constraints of the relatively small game board.
Also because even with 2" less movement transport vehicles are still borderline OP currently.
Most vehicles went down to their original movement value though, during 2.0 a lot of vehicles gained 2" movement.
>>
>>97756573
>To make movement meaningful we make vehicles both slower and remove their Relentless
Scarcity does not create value. Perhaps I should limit the number of turns to 3, to make every turn all the more meaningful?
>>
>>97756604
Not a valid comparison.
With high movement values units would basically be able to teleport to where ever they need to be on the board, with a bit lower movement value you have to plan ahead and think about positioning.
>>
>>97756549
The malcador was an old tank that had a complicated engine that 40k engineseers don't really comprehend so it's slow as shit there because what they think is a working state is actually a coughing, wheezing engine that wants to be put down. That's why it's fast in 30k.
>>
>>97756676
Okay. So what's this fucker's excuse for being 20% slower than a Russ?

I suppose it's just a matter of preference; marines are the only forces capable of a lightning strike, so I think they should specialize on that.
If you want a slow advance, any mortal can duck behind a trench line and follow a Leman Russ...yet it is also Space Marines who endure in the high intensity attrition that would otherwise needlessly waste mortals.
Having options is nice, at least.

The kratos is costed just fine for what it is.

Its a better gun platform than other marine vehicles in its price range, but those vehicles are transports while it isnt.

>>
>>97756850
No? Its entirely fair for being a dedicated gun-tank (and a single role one at that).

Go back to your fellblade comparison. Yes, two kratoses are going to be scarier to tanks (when within melta range), but theyre also far worse at everything else, that fellblade cannon is 72" range and basically cant miss vehicles (1.5" radius + d6" scatter on a tank). If youre up close you also have that D6 demolisher cannon at S12, so the fellblade is essentially a guaranteed kill on any non superheavy vehicle in a way the kratos just isnt. And then the fellblade is also more flexible when it comes to dealing damage to other targets (like blobs of infantry/HSS/whatever) AND can do it at range that basically nothing else can match.

The thing that made vehicles bad with the VDT was the Explode result.
ONe idea i was tossing around to fix this problem back in 2.0 was make it so that you could not trigger a explode result unless the vheicle had taken more then 50% of its total starting hull points as damage first, and then give every vehicle like idk, 3 more HP. so if say like a Land raider had 9 hullpoints starting, it could not explode until it was at 4 or below total hullpoitns left, THEN if you rolled an explode it could actually explode.

VDT sucked becuase a single lucky shot could kill a vehicle, and with HSS it was really easy to get that luck

Anon vehicles were also bad because literally any pen made a vehicle useless for a turn or worse, so a 10 point whack off combi melta could completely invalidate a 400 point investment. Letting pens hit VDT puts up right back in that situation but worse, because the crew stunned/shaken equivalent is very hard to get rid of EXACTLY because it's so hard to apply it
>>
Thanks for looking past my polshit comment and responding. I should've put the stuff about Tank Shock at the beginning lol

>>97757684
It was hard enough already, now it's literally impossible? Melta bombs do 4 damage to HP5 Rhinos, and Armourbane prevents them from "whiffing" into useless Glances...which are the main way to apply statuses on vehicles now!
>>97757733
True. I toyed with Explodes being extra 1d3 damage. A Rhino could survive that, and Land Raiders couldn't explode from full health. And IF said extra damage would overkill the vehicle, THEN it would be an explosion like normal.

I think the current VDT could be:
Glances: roll as normal, cause 0 HP loss
Pens: cause HP damage as normal, also roll on the VDT
Explodes: need a 7 to access, so only AP2 and AP1 guns can ever score it. Do...nothing? Stuff does enough damage already. But IF the vehicle dies, do not roll for Explodes X: it automatically explodes.
Since Explodes wouldn't do anything by itself, count it as a result 6 on the VDT: "Suppressed"
>>
>>97757795
DESU im perfectly fine with the current vehicle damage table, i think it works good, its one of the few things in 3.0 i really like.
>>
The only world where I will accept pens rolling on the vehicle damage table is when vehicles get a cool stat and all the vehicle damage table does it make you do a test at the end of the phase to see if you gain that status. And all marine vehicles get cool 8, 9 with a decurion, of course :^).
>>
>>97757802
Im not fine with a Death or Glory meltabomb being literally unable to stop a Rhino though. And I don't think the problem lies with Melta bombs themselves.

Nah, glancing hits are quite uncommon. People bring proper anti-tank if they wanna kill vehicles, which means armourbane so no glancing possible. Weapons without armourbane only shoot at vehicles when they got nothing else to shoot, and even then it usually ends up being wasted. More often than not a vehicle will take a bunch of damage or get destroyed.
Had a techmarine undercoated and ready to get painted in anticipation of needing him to keep my shooty tanks functional, but so far the games I've played haven't warranted it at all.

I wish Malcadors were newer tanks with experimental engines (that broke down in 40k). Would explain why both Legions and SA have them, as linebreakers behind which both Russes and Predators can follow to exploit the gaps in the enemy line.

Nope, they're essentially Militia third line obsolete surplus. Alright whatevs

Melta doubles damage within a certain distance. It means that if a tank drives up to the tarantula its being hit for D4.

The trade off is a lower effective range/overall range. But you probably arent putting tarantulas backfield anyways.

I actually really like the model on the left and hate the one on the right.
The guy on the left has a custom mk3 armor that is clearly a mk2 modified to be mk3: you can still see the mk2 collar, the elbows are still mk2, there is no extra protection on the feet and the leg & vanbrace armored panels have straps on the side (which for some reason are on the mk2 tacs but not mk3).
I think a ton of love and attention was put into the guy on the left.

Ive always thought Techmarines ought to have a secondary role on top of being Car Insurance. I was delighted when they became sort of junior Signals Officers in 2.0, though cognis signums were getting a bit too common back then. But it made no sense for them to be attached to, say, tactical squads away from vehicles. And they lost their optional Conversion Beamers for it.

Across multiple editions of both 30k and 40k I've seen Techmarines be:
Repairmen
Gunners
Signals officers
Buff cover
Buff healthy vehicles ("Awaken Machine Spirit")
That on top of being able to accompany their battle brothers, or be their own unit alongside servitor helpers, or ride a bike and keep up with tank formations. That on top of putting their own servo limbs to melee use, crushing foes with mechanical strength or flaying people with mechadentrites.

Gone! Car insurance it is. I say we could have it all. Have servo arms be weapons, swap them for a beamer, or a cognis. Attach him to a unit, or give him a servo automata retinue, or a bike etc. Except rad grenades; don't steal the Destroyers' thing

Why did GW have to take away the Night Lords Inductii's fluffy 'shank their Sergeant or his opponent during a challenge' rule?

I get it, Sergeants can't challenge anymore and most Inductii don't even get Sergeants, but would it have killed them to either give the NL ones some 'Gang Sergeant' upgrade (same as the Ultras and Sallies get for their Inductii) with Champion or even just leave the rule for if you attach a character who can challenge to the unit?

How does a Dreadnought reload?
>>
>>97765977
The standard answer seems to be serfs/servitors though I don't feel comfortable with the idea of those always being essential with every marine operation
>>
>>97766012
That's pretty much what got me wondering this in the first place. I get that the Custodians in the webway had servitors and serfs that followed behind reloading weapons and swapping out wargear, but that's the webway, where you have supply lines and baggage trains (presumably).
So how does a Dread reload when out on campaign?

>source: anus
>>97766289
I think most drop assaults casualities happen before the dread finishes his ammo. By the time he needs ammo the drop assault has already turned into a ground war and the support landers have landed.
>>
>>97766289
what are their total ammo capacities? Are they often met with battle long enough that would require mid-operation ammunition replenish? A dreadnought is a decisive enough force of strength I would imagine this doesnt need to happen very often if at all in battles where they're present, but it would probably depend on how good the supply lines are
>>
