I'm looking to run a sci-fi pulp game on a knockoff hive world that is in a steady decline towards post-apocalyptia and anarchy. I want it to be lethal but not grubby Dark Heresy 'you suck woodchuck assholes' weak player experience. I'm also partial to systems where it's easy to stand up an encounter and easy to modify shit. Is RIFTS a good fit for this? I've had it recommended before.
>>
>>97768765
>easy to stand up an encounter and easy to modify shit. Is RIFTS a good fit for this?
No, Rifts is not good for this, unless you use an AI chatbot to generate all the stats for you. It has a lot of stats and a very crunchy combat system. You can start very powerful, however, as most classes are front-loaded with lots of abilities.
>>
Did that one anon ever get the chance to post the print friendly cheat sheet for rifts/TMNT combat?
>>
>>97767643
Good question, yes there is but Kevin insists on not giving them stats or names. He has the general catagorey of "gods of light" being all good gods but stats out some of the Egyptian pantheon.

He explains it a few times in the books he does that because respect to Christians but personally I think its only because he has an Aunt or something that would beat him with a large iron bound Bible.

He does outline how to have them in terms of making deals or getting bennies:
>Entities of light (angels and BigJ) only make pacts limited to specific objectives and never just to make people stronger. Ie, "Kill this demon specifically" or "rescue these people." They can give magic items but like the parts they will take them back immediately when the job is done. They take a very hands off, things will work out in their own approach to world's in general.

So, no. Angels exist but Kevin intentionally leaves them vague compared to demons.

Can d-bees become cyber-knights or only humans?
>>
>>97770910
You can image to text it. Five minutes of editing and you're all good.
>>
>>97776413
This is based on my older version of Rifts; I'm uncertain how this is reflected in the Ultimate Edition.

Cyberknight is an OCC (occupational character class), not a PCC (psychic character class) or RCC (racial character class); therefore, as long as the D-Bee doesn't have isn't tied to specific RCCs, you should be able to use that dimensional being and build a Cyberknight.

Have there ever been any angelic incursions into Rifts Earth or any of the Three Galaxies the way there are constant demonic incursions?
>>
>>97780934
Its from dragons and gods, which is a fantastic book everyone should buy it.

Yhe angels are just used basic as summons for good gods and hugh level dragons and wizards.
I cant recall an incursion or liberation of an area by angels specifically
>>
>>97778433
Are you asking whether it's a good game? Yeah, it's great. Takes the detailed TMNT martial arts mutant animal fighting game and adds a cool post-apocalyptic setting to it. The bad guys are The Empire of Humanity and the good guys are a coalition of ragtag mutant animals trying to re-create American democracy in the wasteland. It's awesome fun.
>>
>>97776413
In RUE it says there are no racial requirements. I think in Phaseworld they mention Cyber Knights a lot so its an space OCC as well. Glitterboys are mentioned as well but they say there that its glitterboys from earth out on a space adventure.
>>
>>97780886
From old forum posts, mostly. I suppose it was just about having Jesus and christianity in Rifts.
>>
>>97778433
Some people swear by it and supposedly its getting more popular. I can never get into a game but as I understand its not a guns galore setting like Heroes or Rifts.
>>
>>97783278
IIRC, Mutants in Orbit explains why rockets cannot enter orbit or leave orbit and have stats for Glitter Boy variants that can maneuver in space.
>>
>>97785103
I wonder what will happen to Mutants in Orbit when Sean cuts up all the properties and sells them off.
>>
>>97786018
I doubt Sean would do that. He's revitalized Palladium and it's making money on many lines now, like TMNT, Savage Rifts, and the deluxe book reissues. Maybe they'll even get the Robotech license back and do new RPG books for it.

>>97789336
That's the thing... Rifts doesn't really have any "standard modules" or adventures that are popular common experiences in the community. It's a hodgepodge of old mini-adventures and rare adventures from The Rifter magazine and very short Hook-Line-Sinker adventure ideas from various supplements. Palladium doesn't really print regular, big adventures like D&D does.

I guess the closest thing would be the stock sample adventure in Sourcebook One called The Face of Evil.

>>97791637
>Cool, I'll check it. Is it stand alone or in a particular book?
trying to search via the bits of memory I have, I think its rifts sourcebook 01, OP's image I believe is the tittlepage. Its a combination of a source book on North America's Coalition areas and at the end a stand alone adventure which is on like page 60. think there is a pdf of it online you can find by just searching for it on google. Skimming through it now, Really like the illustrations in it. Has a super cool bold attitude that is hard to find nowadays without it feeling manufactured.
>>
>>97791245
Savage rifts is likely choosing to take them out because of all the slavery, the fact that a solid 1/5 of the 3 galaxies is controlled by the spligorths. And if slavery has the possibility of owning the cosmic forge they dont want to entertain it.
I dont think thats sean doing it more its likely Sean Patrick Fannon, the savage rifts main author not Sean Roberson, the palladium books guy.
Them both being sean makes ita confusing.

Fannon is hardly woke. He very nearly got cancelled when some SA allegations were leveled at him.
https://forum.rpg.net/index.php?threads/sean-patrick-fannon-called-out-for-multiple-cases-of-sexual-harrassment.827712/

Note he replied himself on the first page of this mess, but most of his receipts got redacted by a mod.

He was removed as the lead on the Savge Rifts line (the SWADE reboot, specifically), but he may have quietly been drawn back in after the success of Prowlers and Paragons UE.

His business partners stuck by him through everything.

The authors on the latest Savage Rifts project, Europa, were Aaron Burkett, PK Levine, John Stevens, Sean Owen Roberson, Johnny Roccia, & Patrick Young. Make of that what you will.

BTW, Savage Phase world is being handled by Star Anvil Studios, the crew behind Starbreaker - Saints & Synners and The Secret World for Savage Worlds, so different crew altogether.

The Secret World is an odd game, taking an older acane & occult MMO and adapting it to Savage Worlds. It is a solid premise and would play well with other settings, such as being the present state of affairs for a modern Rippers game, though the secret societies are all human.

Starbreaker wears its space Opera influences openly. The options to be good guys pretending to be bad guys is interesting - as is the possibility of being actual criminals. It feels like they were channeling Guardians of the Galaxy in the best ways.

The books are well done, and clearly the powers that be thinks the team, which includes Alan Bahr, are good at what they do, granting them access to the Rifts license.

Splicers fans, what's up with host armor?
In a lot of the book it seems synonymous with Dreadguard, but for some reason Roughnecks and Outriders have it. Why? Especially Outriders, why do they get giant warbeasts AND host armor when packmasters and archangels don't?
It feels like they just slapped it on them late in the setting's development to justify the giant host armor creation section

Also, how exactly is humanity organized? There are nobles mentioned, but they're ruled by warlords selected through duels, so how does that work?
Finally, what is a true Gene-Pool, the stare of a gene-pool beyond Engineer and Librarian?
>>
>>97816979
Splicers!
The key point is the Bio-E they get assigned. Deeadguards get the most, then roughnecks, then outsiders. The Bio-E means more mods or enhancements, on top of that dreadguards get some metabolism and can upgrade ro a dreadnaught.

I think Outriders get host armors because almost all warmounts are saddle mounted. Not just an exposed cockpit but that you are on top of the thing. In my campaign when the Machine was controlling troops they would target the warmount rider.
>>
>>97816979
>Also, how exactly is humanity organized? There are nobles mentioned, but they're ruled by warlords selected through duels, so how does that work?
As I understand it, they have different governments but they all are they all are under emergency wartime protocols. So they have their own ways of handling the government work but a feudal warlord has executive power. Personally, I throw most of the office names out and go full weeb: Houses are run by a warlord and families of dreadguards are his retainers. The engineers and all the bio machine makers are a the psuedo religious class is that they dont have power outside of everyone depedending on them and that they are all weirdos and they talk about weird things people dont understand.

>Finally, what is a true Gene-Pool, the stare of a gene-pool beyond Engineer and Librarian?

Genepools are saints, basically. Saints become engineers and their legs form genepools. In Swven Years on Cerebus the genepools just happen. Some Saints become Librarians instead.

It should be noted that genepools arent just holes. They are concave organs with millions of microscopic tendrils that physically reach into cells one by one and insert genes. The goo is just ambiotic fluid, iirc.

You are probably right some OCCs getting host armors to justify the creation rules but I personally think its the roughnecks. In their skills they dont actually include host armor piloting.

Has anyone run a nightbane character in an HU campaign? All told it seems like you could say it takes place in the same dimension, same planet its just there was this paranormal secret war going on and the superheroes never noticed that there is a highly restrictive third party in the government that took power and how most police and government officials are bug filled homunculuses or demon clones or in on the conspiracy. 30.06 and 5.56 doing identical damage
5.45x39 doing 1d8 and 5.56x45 doing 4d6
7.62x39 doing 4d6 but so does .308 on some guns.

24-31 % Razor Blades: Razor blades are unnaturally attached to the Nightbane. They may have replaced teeth or fingernails, or even cover the character like a porcupine 's quills. Add ID4+ 1 to H.F. The character gains +4D6 to S.D.C., and inflicts an additional 1 D6 S.D.C. in hand to hand combat if the fingernails have been replaced with razors. Or a bite inflicts 2D6 S.D.C. if the razor blades appear in the mouth. If the blades are on the skin, body slams do 2D6 S.D.C. plus nonnal punch damage.
41-60% Alien Creature: Roll on the Alien Shape Table.

We're a razor blade covered elf, definitely a punk glamrock look. 1d100 more to see how much more messed up.
>>
Rolled 42 (1d100)

>>97851181
Not bad, hoping for some xenomorph traits.
>>
>>97851207
>38-45% Thorns: Thorns protrude from the character's body! They may appear to be natural growths, or they might be stigmata-like, appearing to painfully pierce the character's skin! Add 4D6 to S.D.C. and 1D4 to Horror Factor

I'll do the math tonight but we have have Ellen features, razors in our mouth, fingers, or skin, and we are covered in thorns. I think our name should be "sharpie" or "knife-ears" because holyshot there is not a an area of our body that doesnt cut or poke holes in things and we look fantastic. Like all Nightbane we are stacking up the sdc.

Any suggestions for talents? With Ellen we are pretty much guaranteed ro be a party face.

I've played a Nightbane in Rifts, but never HU. I think most folks would think you are some kind of mutant, honestly. As for tying in Dark Day and the invasion, that would be up to the GM. They may not want to mess with it, and you would just be an odd mutant-like being to most.

I'd be more inclined to include HU characters in my Nightbane games, but then Nightbane was my favorite line. I tended to go full kitchen sink with my Palladium games, back in the day.

>>97851274
There is a character remarkably similar to that in the film Nightbreed; she's not a main character, but shows up in the Battle for Midian.

30.06 and 308 should be about equal
5.45 and 5.56 should be equal
7.62x39 equals a mini 30 round
Rifle calibers should do more than handgun

45>40>9>380>.22
This is an unbalanced but closer to reality list
50 bmg,12.7x108mm(russian) = 2d6x10
338 lupa=1d6x10
54r, 30.06, 308= 1d4x40
7.62x39, 270= 6d6
5.56, 5.45, 5.8×42mm(chinese), 44mag=5d6
45acp, 9mm lago, 38 super, 357=4d6
40, 357sig, 7.62x25tok= 3d6
9mm 2d6+2
.22 1d8

This would make a punch 1d4 and a kick 1d6 though obviously a .22 is greatly more damaging than a kick but its a game

I think nightspawn into HU is fine, as long as the gm or player agrees no dream stream or astral(the extremely expanded version in nightspawn at least)
Its alot to ask to have 2 relms of reality that only you can access and the gm has to learn, prepare for and rp with you..

The rest of the table gets to sit and do jack shit nothing during your jonts
>>
>>97853943
Yeah, that would fit better in a more focused game, with OCCs & PCCs that can better interact there (Dreamlands & the Astral plane), and would fit better with Beyond the Supernatural, DESU.

At least with the Darklands, the Nightbane can facilitate forays there, and there are natural portals in and out.

It also would depend on the other HU characters, as super psychics and mages might have access to the correct abilities, again, with GM input.

Basically, the whole crew would need to be ok with the layers of interaction, IMHO. With the right crew, it could be awesome.
>>
>>97853943
>>97856118
Very true. The rules I have learned through bitter GM and player experience are:
>If someone goes to the astral plane, EVERYONE goes to the astral plane
>If someone goes into cyberspace for some hacking, EVERYONE goes into cyberspace for some hacking
Otherwise it kills the game.

It would be cool if there was like 1 big media project for rifts for easy setting/flavor inspiration. A movie or videogame or something. though might be hard to pull off.

Like, obviously you have the star wars movie for star wars, Shit like Conan for pulp fantasy, Hell, you even have Blade and buffy for modern Vampires. But I cant really think of a readily accessible piece of pop media that does post apocalyptic gonzo sci-fi fantasy.

Palladium recently tried to remaster the Rifts: Promise of Power video game, but it failed to meet its funding goals. I think they may have been better off trying to make a new game.
>>
>>97872198
I think they did that thinking it would be cheaper. Given how hard it is to get PoP running either a new game or the remake will be wholly new to people.

What I think they should not have done is just give up like they did. Go to a different site, try again, got to a dev people might have heard of, or anything else besides just throwing up hands and walking away.

It's hard to find a movie that would have all the things that RIFTS(tm) has: supertech, aliens, demons, wizards, dragons, mechs, legendary monsters of every kind, nazi supersoldiers, dinosaurs, space gods. That's part of the appeal of the setting and the game. A movie like that would be 90% CGI and would struggle just to introduce the world within 2 hours, let alone tell a coherent story the exposition putting people to sleep.
>>
>>97875743

If I were to think about it I think they effectively were doing nothing and didn't get deemed a big enough threat while the Siege of Tolkieen was going. The Xiti were found out to be non aggressive on a world or dimension until they built up their forces to a point and at that time they attack everything and don't stop until the planet is one giant hive. I forget but I think it was only after the war did dimensional explorers research this and then the CS pulled the stick out long enough to accept that knowledge.

Part of the appeal of Rifts books is that they have an implicit metaplot that you can follow along as you read them but which is not required for running or playing the game. Most Rifts games don't throw everything at you at once, though, just the elements relevant to the region and the immediate story.

There are lots of anime that can hit most of these notes.

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet.
Iria: Zeram.
One Punch Man.
Redline.
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.
The Vision of Escaflowne, and the movie.

There was one season of Scavengers Reign, an animated series about astronauts stranded on an alien planet that was very good.

Then you have more traditional films like Reign of Fire.

When you start looking at video games, you start to get even more elements together.

>The empire of humanity having a mutant/super human as their leader is way to cliché like jrpg levels
It is, but the ATB Empire needs it. Without superpowers the few 1000 surviving humans wouldn't stand a chance against the hordes of mutant animals at the level of technology and resources they have. They're outnumbered 1,000,000:1. The Rifts CS is different, they aren't that outnumbered and have far more territory, resources, technology and powers (like psionics) to help them.

The EoH being technically "mutants" with superpowers also creates an interesting moral conundrum for them since they claim to be "pure" humans but are actually irradiated mutants.

Does anyone here love the other systems like Ninjas and Superspies, Systems Failure, Heroes Unlimited, Beyond the Supernatural, Dead Reign, ect.

I have specifically taken notice of the magazine pouches, webbing, survival gear. Some of them even had all kinds of hot and cold weather clothing, police jump suits, commando sweaters and the whole shebang.

I don't think any other systems are quite like it?

Also why is Heroes Unlimited the system that has the survival clothing and not the post apoc, military, or survivalist settings?
>>
>>97943997
I like N&SS and After The Bomb but have had bad experiences with Dead Reign and Heroes Unlimited. The martial arts in N&SS are great - if sometimes a little illogical - and the superspy gadgets are very neat but very 1980s-tech so require updating to the 2020s. Or at least the 2000s.

Loved the Gizmoteer when I was younger, spent a lot of hours making various gizmo builds.
>>
>>97944021
The martial arts are like all made up mostly and don't even reflect the styles in like Jackie Chan movies. I was rather disapppointed.

I find that like.. yuck, Cyberpunk 2020 or Shadowrun have better options.

Considering N&SS doesn't have any glocks or Beretta 92s, I wonder if it's set in the 1970s and not the 1980s when it was written?

From Merriam-Webster: "Exigent" in bed describes a situation, need, or person that is highly demanding, pressing, or requires immediate attention. It implies an urgent, non-negotiable requirement—such as intense physical discomfort, an emergency situation, or a partner's urgent need—that must be addressed instantly.

I built one of these guys in Spore. Was wonderful to see them rampage across friends planets.

I would say Naruni gear works better than Sony.

And then they put a grenade launcher on it!

>>97954636
Ikr? Its unreal how good it its. Reasons to love splat books. Why pick anything else?
>>
>>97954624
I meant Sony more in terms of their proprietary interfaces, marketing language, price point and asthetics. Their gear is good stuff but you for most earth based campaigns you'll lack the logistical base to support it. Still, love the derringer and force fields.

And I bet naruni would cancel your login ID if you didn't use it in 30 days, to boot!

What is everyone's favorite Palladium line, current or past, to use with Rifts?

For me, it is Nightbane/spawn, but that is my favorite line.

Additionally, does anyone have any experience using Micro Platinum?
>>

>Micro Platinum
I've used it. I was a contributor in the thread it was created in. rpg.net I think. In the ancient times when it wasn't a complete loss.

I think it's fine for what it does. Broadening the modfier range for stats was a good move. I'm not too fond of character focus. It feels redundant when RCC/OCCs are still the core of the character. Everything else is just streamlining. I don't like HtH styles being flattened either. One of the reason I like Palladium is because of the distinct combat style. And Drama Points aren't my style. I'd rather just use push or flip-flops than introduce a meta-currency.
>>

I thought the Drama Points were odd, too. I would think if you were going to do something akin to that, as you said, a push-your-luck mechanic would fit the game better.

So what's your favorite setting to fold into Rifts?
>>
>>97962003
I'm not really into Rifts. This >>97944258 is me.

I played some Rifts in the 90s and enjoyed it. As a perpetual GM I don't find the excess very appealing though. I'd probably play it again if the opportunity arose, I do love me some Psi Stalkers, but there's already a homebrew techno-fantasy multiverse living in my head if I have the urge to run that kind of game.

Splicers. I've played Heroes Unlimited for over a decade or two but Splicers clicks with me.
>Micro Platinum
I have no idea what that is.
>>
>>97962203
Fair. Sounds fairly kitchen sink on its own.

I also remember a time when RPG.Net wasn't a raging political arena dumpster fire, and people simply talked about games.
>>97962347
Splicers is pretty interesting. I think it works well with Systems Failure.

Micro Platinum is a 5-page fan-made distillation and minor tweaking of the Palladium Megaversal System. It was designed to smooth out the rough spots and make conversion between lines easier.

Before 2012, eh? Long, long ago. Are the Forums of the Megaverse still going? Last time I checked a year or two back they seemed almost dead.
>>
>>97966320
NTA but there's like fifteen of us. It takes a week to get a response sometimes
>>
>>97966967
Jesus. I remember when the place was swarming with hundreds of Pallytards. Are you saying that this thread on 4chan of all places runs faster than the official forums now?!?
>>
>>97851511
I think Dark Day would not go well... for the Night Lords... if it came to Rifts Earth.

Though it would be interesting if it turned out that a lot of Coalition humans were Nightbane all along.
>>
>>97967071
Seems like everyone is going to discord now although there are only like three pally discord as far as I know.
>>
>>97970023
Well, yeah. People in Rifts have more defenses in places against paranormal threats. The big threat would be the mirror doppelgangers if they can replace people secretly but again people could just as well he is controlled by a vampire or an evil mage or one of the several other shape shifters on Rifts Earth... as they club the guy with a neuro mace shouting "shaper no shape!" A mantra they thought they heard in a bar to make shape changers change back.
>>
>>97970023
>>97971048
Again, I said I think it would be far more interesting than the Minion War.

Yes, psi-stalkers and dog boys would sniff many of the Nightlords minions out, pronto. Which is why they would start corrupting human agents as they did on modern Earth. Onserve through mirrors, move through them, bypassing checkpoints via the Nightlands, pop up, take what they want, and disappear.

Nightbane/spawn is a way more interesting wrinkle. Especially when the psychics can't sniff out the Nightbane in their facades.
>>
>>97970896
Three? o_O I only know of the one official one. Which are the other two?
>>
>>97970023
I will always push for the absolutely stupid(genius) idea that Prosek is an Astral Lord
>>
>>97970896
Fuck discord. Its too fractured & insular
>>
>>97975367
Yes, but it does have bot features and voice chat
>>
>>97975363
Sure, why not? Does ruin his human supremacy ideology and gives him a great old fuck you escape mechanism. Kevin would heartily approve.
>>
>>97960835
Palladium Fantasy is ny favorite line.
Its so well written, its big but not rifts or phase world big (phase world is my 2nd favorite line btw).
>>
>>97971687
Oh yes, infinitely. Minion war, as I interpret it, is basically every Buffy episode where a character gets possessed by a demon so there is a dramatic turn around where the actor is now wearing the enlarged demon forehead makeup. Thats it, thats minion war.

A Dark Day event on Ridts would at least be a very intense 3 days where they are trying as aggressively as possible to take over the world but also as discretely as possible. So you have clones and bug men trying to take out officials as well as other demons but they are also either retreating when enough people notice or try to kill all witnesses.
