https://battletech.com/coreproducts/The new Core Box contains the Hollander, Rakshasa, Solitaire, Uziel, Mad Cat Mk II, Vulture Mk IV, Regent, and Eris. The new Starter Box contains the Hammerhead and Kontio. The new rulebook is the Core Rulebook, and will replace the BattleMech ManualPresumably, the existing AGOAC and Beginner Box minis will be migrating to force packs same as the Clan Invasion box is.
How does /tg/ feel about the MechWarrior RPG’s? Seems like most agree that 2e is better than 3e and 4e, although I must confess I am quite fond of 4e for all the wrong reasons.
>>97763149I love lifepaths, but I don't like any of the ways they've been implemented in Mechwarrior. 3e has the right idea, but it's saddled with a special character creation currency that has to be translated into actual gameplay XP using an exponentially increasing conversion rate. AToW lobotomizes the concept by removing the events and genericizing the options so one size fits all. Destiny is even worse.
>>97763128Blatant attempt to force ilclan bullshit because people prefer 3025/3050.This will either fail or create an unbridgeable divide between established players and new players, which worked out sooo well for the last few companies handling Battletech, right?
>>97763128That's an eclectic mix. Also fuck the Regent, I've already got too many of them.
>>97763176>ilClan bullshit>10 mechs, only 3 of which are ilclan>5 are Clan Invasion and 2 are Civil War
>>97763169Doesn’t help that AToW wants you to sort through 5k EXP for character creation, either. That, and while I do appreciate the focus on infantry vs armored vehicle / ‘Mech combat rules, I’m not too fond of how everything works. Unfortunately for me, I ended up oddly obsessed with AToW after using it as a reference for a dumb ‘fic I’ve been working on. Got bad to the point where I’m genuinely trying to make a standalone homebrew out of the system. It’s mostly for the SSV rules, but man.
>>97763194>3 of which are ilclanRight which means the box is ilclan. You think newfags are going to just not use those 3?
>>97763100>Madcat MK II>Rakhasha>Oziel>HauptmannCivil War GODS, we're eating good.>>97763149I have AToW and the main problem is char creation like >>97763169 said. Also the companion is mandatory imo despite not having a physical book.
>>97763212I'm unclear of what you're upset about. Do you want the company to just not introduce things for the current era at all?>>97763215Shimmy's a big MW4 fan so I'm not surprised he gave some love to the Uziel. It looks good.
>>97763222Making the new starter box not evergreen is a blatant gw primaris style move to segregate the existing community.
>>97763237Got it, I'll retcon the Regent, Kontio, and Hammerhead into the Star League era just for you.
>>97763215Companion does also get weird into the ‘Vintage’ firearms honestly. The Vintage Minigun is pretty much a portable M134 in all but name. Creature stuff was cool though.
>>97763243CGL is temporary, Battletech is forever. The more CGL fucks around, the sooner they find out
In your opinion, what are the coolest looking mechs in this game? I'm about to get into it with my dad. I have no interest in how good they are, I want to play what looks the coolest. For example, pic related - looks cool as hell. I don't like the ones that look like big silly power rangers robots
Rip to AGoAC.Anyway whats with the current industry wide obsession with dry erase everything. Did the tech get a bump?
>>97763259Shadow Hawk, while frankly not anywhere as good on the tabletop as it is in the lore, does look pretty tight. Helps that in-universe it’s one of the few ‘Mechs that is actually comfortable to pilot for an extended period of time.
>>97763259Ebon Jaguar, Champion, Timber Wolf, Crab, King Crab, Cicada, FleaPGI sculpts
>>97763274Chad pic provider >>97763277virgin list with no pics
Huh. New CGL Core Rules update just came in it seems like. Still wary of their shit, although AC’s all getting a free crit negation is appreciated. Fuckers weigh more than enough to justify it IMO.
>>97763290You have a search engine in front of you.I'm not your bitch.
>>97763294
I'm pretty proud of suggesting that
>>97763259> I don't like the ones that look like big silly power rangers robotsProbably in the wrong game, desu.Hard to go wrong with any of the Macross or Dougram designs
>>97763304Certainly does fit things well and is a hell of a lot easier than just changing damage values. Absurd mechanical redundancy is the name of the game in BattleTech and all that. Precision Ammo was a bandage fix for them and I’m not super happy about it getting buffed further, but it is what it is I guess. UAC-5 not jamming anymore is neat though.
>>97763272The vast majority of players I know players using sleeved sheets and dry erase markers, so it's not exactly out of place.
>>97763259The Black Knight will always be the best version of any “dude-in-a-robot-suit” shaped mech. That said, I usually prefer the “jet-with-legs” type like the Ebon Jaguar, Black Python, Timber Wolf (really just the entire catalog of clan mechs) and Bushwacker. Phoenix Hawk IIC is another good man-shaped mech, Grasshopper too.
https://battletech.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/BattleTech-Playtest-Results-Developers-Notes-3-19a.pdfIt's over, it has never been so over.
Transferred this question from the previous thread because I didn't know about this one until it was too late: While there are mechs that are widely seen across space (Wasps, Stingers, Locusts, Griffins, and Archers) and one assault mech that's mostly kept to the Inner Sphere (Stalker) by 3025, what about ground combat vehicles? What are the widely seen/easily mass-produced conventional ground combat vehicles seen across known space (except for Clan space) that are light, medium, and heavy?
>>97763412They added superheavies and tripods to core, so it feels pretty started to me.
>>97763412Who was it that said the Fireball XF is the best mech ever because it has a nuclear charge attack? They're going to be sad now that charge damage is calculated off of TMM and not hexes moved.
>>97763502It's over.
>>97763412>https://battletech.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/BattleTech-Playtest-Results-Developers-Notes-3-19a.pdf>I decided to change how hips work.
>>97763535It can go in the bin with the reaction phase and force size multiplier.
>>97763412I don't agree with a lot of these removals (I think they'll regret some of them, especially when they realize they can't put their precious Hatchetman in since it has a full head ejector), but the additions are nice. New plasma rifle variants for ilclan.
>>97763607>radical heat sinks in coreI can hear the OF screeching from here.
>>97763128>The new rulebook is the Core Rulebook, and will replace the BattleMech ManualSo for non-Mech rules we're referencing Total Warfare and ignoring its Mech sections in favor of the new Core book? Or something else going on?>>97763176Nah, I feel its moreso that 3025 has everyone on even footing but doesn't have the Clans, and 3050s has the Clans but they are deliberately significantly stronger than the Inner Sphere. They went into this with wanting both the Inner Sphere and Clans because both are incredibly prominent but also there being equal mech numbers at the start of a match for both players, and that forces Dark Age or later. Between ilClan or Dark Age, I'll take ilClan.
>>97763619>milks a nipback in their direction
>>97763651The Core Rulebook has the BSP asset rules from Mercs for simplified vehicles, and a new book will be released eventually to cover record sheet rules for combined arms. Until then, don't ditch TW.
>>97763670My group will likely continue to use TW until a new comprehensive book comes out. A lot of guys aren't interested in the asset system at all.
>>97763676I use them for Player vs GM games just to cut down on how much I have to manage, but that's about it. Tank record sheets are cooler.
>>97763215Technically it's a Regent, but I highly doubt anyone would blink at you running it as a Hauptmann.
>>97763741Yeah wrong mech, I meant to say Hollander and also add Solitaire
>>97763607Thet could still easily put in the Hatchetman if Full Head Ejector is being downgraded to fluff text outside of maybe campaign ops or the rpgs. It's practically that already.
>>97763237>>97763251Dude, open window, glue fumes are fucking up your brain. It's a good box, nice selection and a new Solitare. Not everyone wants to play clan invasion over and over like you.
>>97763776Yeah. The ejector is campaign only, it doesn't do anything in a generic game, so I can see why it was cut if they're looking to be like TW and just focus on the immediate game. Campaign stuff comes down the road, I assume.
>>97763259Highlander or WarhammerNova Cat or TimbyShadowhawk iic or Hunchback Jenner iic or Adder.
>>97763128Is this their April 1st joke released a little early?
>>97763775He looks like Packhunter that grew up.No interest in new books save for lore booklet, mechs are very nice.Is that intro box hammerhead a new sculpt or same as we have in star league box?
>>97763943Can you use more that one sentence and not a question to formulate your dissatisfaction with this box?
>>97763535I might be wrong, but as I understand it, the rules are removed from the base rules included in the new battlemech manual thing and might still appear as advanced rules. It only makes sense, leave the rules in there for people who want the ground to be harder. Full ammo explosion damage becomes optional rules etc.
>>97763535Thank christ.
>>97763974No.
Awesome?
>>97763100Toyama damnit I really don't like the new pilot card design
>>97763149I've been GMing 2e for some time now, I like it's simplicity and compatibility with the tabletop game, although you should get the companion and perhaps rip off some things from other editions.
>>97763128>>97763100Release date?
>>97764010I like it. I mean, it's like a decent number of things here - stuff people have asked for / been using already as house rules forever.
>>97764045I would say summer, unless orange man gonna make things worse and ships from China will be delayed.
>>97764045Original plan was gen con. If they're announcing this far out, that looks on track. Still could fuck up if random new international event #49857 occurs or Catalyst drops the ball though.
Where's the fucking bug company box cgl
>>97764088After Jade Falcon birb box and WoB LAM & Celestial box.Be patient.
>>97763985I hope so. They trimmed stuff that gave weapons flavour.Like when they removed no torso twist quirk from mechs. It's becoming checkers with expensive pieces.
>>97763128Shouldn't Kontio be skull faced or something?
I’m thinking I need to paint a Jade Falcon star soon, which mechs should I jam in there? Stuff that’s emblematic of Jade Falcon designs like the Jade Phoenix had my attention, but I also want stuff that’s available in earlier eras, like the Black Lanner.
>>97763524I don't think they've thought that change exactly through. May need some more data but this could really screw over the Charger 1A1?
>>97763176>>97763212>>97763237Trying too hard.
>>97764142Charger -1A1 under current rules, full charge:8 (weight) x 7 hexes moved (don't count the hex the target is in) = 56 damage.Under proposed rules: 8 weight x 4 (TMM+1) = 32 damageAssuming the weight calculation stays the same, that's less.Assuming 16 weight (kick damage rather than punch damage): 16 weight x 4 = 64 damage, Charger improves. So it depends on how they calculate weight. I'm going to presume the last one, because it still fucks the -XF and nerfing the charger of all things would be ridiculous.
>>97764142It screws charging as a tactic. In general, it is a dumbing down of the game rules, not much more.
>>97763128>Starter mechs>One is with stealth armor, ecm, TSM, Supercharger and claws>And the other with hardened armor, AES and streakI'm not sure those are beginner-friendly mechs
>>97764150Mean they aren't exactly wrong. The main issue introducing a new starter box is heavily misleading and jumping straight to ilclan is not something I'd recommend to any new player.
>>97764124The OG design was a Chryssalid reference.
>>97764198> nerfing the charger of all things would be ridiculousIt's kinda gnarly in introtech, nothing else in the game can output that kind of damage, especially for sub-1k BV. Even the 32 damage charge makes it something worth bringing, it's just not broken.
>>97763259>For example, pic related - looks cool as hell. >>97764205Neither of them also look good.
I wanna buy a Chameleon model, is there any decent way to get just that one or is it only really available from a bundle?I had a quick look for 3D prints, but couldn't find shit due to the name
>>97764208>they
>>97764290Ebay, or the IWM model. Cayalyst only does packs for the plastics.
>>97764208It's called Introtech for a reason.Clearly this box is about CGL being butthurt that their fanfic era isn't popular.
>>97764321I wouldn't be so concerned if they advertised this as an advanced box but trying to market this as the new introtech is going to backfire on them hard.
>>97764356>filtering newfags is badI think this is a fantastic decision
>>97764275Holy shit I love fat nipples
>>97764356>going to backfire on them hard.I certainly hope so.They've tried to dumb it down with their removals but they expect new players to sort between 30 different kinds of laser instead of 3?
Well I was considering picking up the original box set to try BG out but I’m not interested in whatever this new enshitification box is
>>97764441I think the different laser types is not too much of an issue for using stock mechs. Weapons having different stats is one of the easiest segments to process. A lot of games have those entirely unit dependent, after all, so if someone is getting filtered by that, they've got a hell of a lot more problems. It will make the Tech Manual harder to get into, but that's pretty advanced anyway.Stuff like stealth, ecm, and the like are the harder things, because those add in far more individualized rules that interact with the properly complex rules.I think it will heavily depend on how the cards are. If they lean towards the Begginmer Box/Essentials introtech sheets but with an added rules text section for the different stuff, it may be treated by new players in a same way as unit-specific special abilities they only later learn are more generic.
Who's fighting who here?
>>97764623You weren't going to be buying a box if this is scaring you off, stop lying to yourself.
>>97764623Sure bud.
So in a Tuesday Newsday last September it was mentioned that TW and BMM will get a final printing this year, is there any indication that’s actually going to happen?
>>97764623>the original box setThat was before I was born, if you can even find one it's going to be expensive as fuck.Just get a BMR (fanpro reprints are still available mint at decent price) a handful of D6 and a printed lance.
>>97764275I actually really like the idea of murals on an archers missile shields.
>>97764623*Yawn*
>>97764719I'm not sure if that actually went through. I don't know anyone that actually has any of what those would be (according to the errata, 8th BMM and 12th TW). Might be a case where we're stuck with errata covering what would have been changed.
>>97764719Lol, this is the company that can't afford to print neoprene mats when they've already been paid for.How can they afford to reprint books they've already announced are invalid? people buying old rules are buying much older rules, not those.

>>97763100I have to say the Hollander looks pretty decent. The Uziel and the Solitaire look completely unchanged in any way, although I'm not entirely sure about that MK II, as I think they've made it look a bit too close to the MkIV... which brings me onto the Rak. On the one hand, I'm kind of surprised they actually did redesign that thing in the end. I'm not sure... I think they're basically approaching it from the angle that GM just took one of their Marauder chassis and slapped a pair of missile pods onto it, and that is pretty close to what I'm seeing here. That whole missile pod superstructure does look like it's been tacked on.
>>97765027>Complaining about grey minis as if minis must be painted to play like with GW slop>Complaining about boxes in background of what looks to be a store>Acts like the mere existance of an alternate format kills the standard format because of some zero sum bullshit

I find it very funny that you can put three Long Toms and multiple reloads on a Superheavy mech. There is absolutely zero reason to do that because you are just going to blow up after one salvo, but it apparently fits.
>>97764133Aside from the Black Lanner as you said, the Night Gyr, Summoner, Turkina, and Marauder IIC are all Jade Falcon staples. Also the Cougar and the Hellbringer, but those are kinda ass.And for later eras get a Jade Hawk and a Flamberge. You want a Jade Hawk and a Flamberge.

Ok, so apparently the reason why Kontio and Hammerhead got chosen was because the starter box is catered toward younger audience, and they wanted to kids to pick 'do you want to go with a shark or a bear when you fight each other.' Oh sweet Blake
>>97765301Why didn't they pick something that looked better? The Kontio and Hammerhead look like dollar store Chink knockoff toys for babies?

Albatross, Grand Titan, Phoenix Hawk 7K, Hunchback 4P for the new forcepack
>>97764356In my experience, new players either jump into the deep end (we currently have one brand new player and a new-ish player who joined our Jihad campaign) or they're wolfnet shitheels who don't care what an era is, only what has the highest ranking in the tournament legal rules category.
what kinda infantry focused special forces exist in the setting beside dest, 7th kommando, and rabid foxes?I know the death commandos are superb infantry too but it sounds like the others are more infantry/commando focused whereas the death commandos are like jacks of all trades

No Aces for Classic this year, no Steiner forcepack for a while. Bye bye my little Fafner and Berserker
With these various alt universes they are making stuff like Gothic or the Rayguns setting for, I wonder if they'd ever make a mirror universe setup. >>97766000The omni-Orion is the Perseus. The Albatross is the fat Orion. Or marginally skinny Atlas. I wouldn't call it "really good" or particularly durable, it is an assault mech with an XL engine.
Saw the new stuff, excited for some of the mechs that are coming out.Disapointed in the Kontio though, didn't recognize it at first. Blades are way to short, kind looks more chunkier then the artwork that was posted for it.5/10 for design.
>>97764213I now want to frankenmech a Chryssalid with the Kontio and Crab/King Crab claws.
>>97763100So what's the good 4:4 split for these, and matching factions?
>>97766000The Perseus has been deliberately gimped with awful crit placements, my friend.
>>97766155The Perseus is one of the more interesting omnimechs to make loadouts for because of it. It's got so much tonnage but so few slots that you have to look at the densest equipment possible, and can never get the perfect jigsaw without adding a couple of oddball items with strange tonnage to crit slot ratios.

>>97765888They're pretty transparently starting a gw style edition downhill which will dumb down the game iteratively like the proverbial boiled frog until shit is basically Alpha Strike.CGL hates Battletech and they just want to ruin it by any means possible, dumbing it down, writing shitty new lore, inviting the faggots in as staff, writers and players, etc...Whatever it takes to fuck it up for the existing playerbase who are all systemically problematic "wrong type of people".

>>97766788Battleforce units are entire lances with stats derived from the individual mechs, right? Could that system be forward ported to AS for regimental scale games?

>>97766802>Could that system be forward ported to AS for regimental scale games?Nigga, Alpha Strike was reverse-engineered from Battleforce 2. It's Battleforce 2 broken into individual units with a couple extra features. The old Strat Ops rules for converting regular Battletech units to AS is literally the BF2 conversion rules.
>>97766805Isn't Redditors their target audience now? Like not even memeing, they are going for the vocal 'big stompy robots' crowd that latched on when the first KS blew up?
>>97766805Those three changes are just a small handful of the many, many, many changes between core books. BMR changed a ton from BC:RoW. BMRr changed stuff from BMR. TW changed a ton. The latest printing of TW has multiple pages of changes from the first printing. An entire phase of the game was folded into a different phase. New unit types have been introduced by core books. The entire melee combat system was overhauled. Battletech changes over time. Get over it.

>>97766905>Well, that crowd spends money and we don't.As a whale, I take offense to that statement.
>>97766890That it has changes from before isn't what makes it preferable. It's superiority is in it being a single document full rules book.Even now you can still get a good copy 20 years post-print for only $20ish more than a CGL rulebook, but unlike CGL books you never need to buy 5 more at equal price, it's one-and-done, the entire game in your hands.
>>97766923There's like 15 of us. Even 15 whales aren't worth chasing compared to the thousands on reddit or discord
>>97766902Which really just proves you don't have any principles, you're just mad that what you started with isn't the newest thing anymore. If you really cared about rules purity, you certainly wouldn't be playing something at the ass end of that many rule changes. You could have said Battletech 2nd edition box, or Battletech Compendium (no colon). But no, you're downstream of those by at least three rules revisions. You even use a book that literally has revised in the title. You're a fraud.
>>97766905>Can't really blame a business for doing business.Yes I fucking can. I don't WANT CGL to be in business. I want Battletech as a saleable property to die already so they stop ruining it and new people stop coming into the game. It was fine the way it was. Stop fucking with it.

>>97767039The BEST battle armor too? REPRESENT
>>97767024I dunno. BC to BC:RoW was 4 years, BC:RoW to BMR was 4 years, BMR to BMRr was 3 years, then 5 years to TW, and now 20 years to whatever this is. 21 If they don't get the proper book out before January.
>>97767031Audible kek from me anon. Personally I think their whole business model around BT was doomed from the start given how reliant upon fickle overseas child slave labour to produce barely acceptable quality models that they excessively package and then sell at a premium price. Their global supply is scuffed and unreliable, and even if it wasn't the shelf space they are competing for in regards to walk in business at LGSs seems like it will always keep them on a back foot. Even with a direct marketing model the supply and logistics still becomes a bottleneck in the whole ordeal. As does the slow rollout of new product along with the new releases not following any sort of real logical order or follow specific demand.
>>97767048>the BMR is all but identical as rules goAns other jokes you can tell your friends.
>>977670423rd Ed 40k cops a lot of flak, and rightfully so. But its core problem was being slaved to a D6 system which results in a lack of granularity in the stats. Mechanically stuff like AP makes sense and can work fine, but not when you are stuck with D6.
>>97767074I've never had an issue playing with guys who use the compendium or the other printing of the BMR, hell even newer BMM or TW players, but with those it's usually "wait, my book doesn't even have that rule section wtf? I guess i'll go with yours"
>>97766875No. I ~want~ to use the rules. The only thing that's fucking me is having half the changes announced and the other half getting pithy "NEW RULES FOR..." summaries, so I can't amend my stuff ahead of time.Sure I'll skim it when scans go up. I'm not camping out for it, but I have a coupon for CGL store and a local where I get a discount; between the two I don't see a reason NOT to get the book unless the final form is genuine horseshit.
>>97763181>fuck the Regent, I've already got too many of them.Same. My one is languishing in the box of greys.
>>97767094Then they smoothed it over for you or just did it their way without you noticing, because there are a lot of rules changes. There was a heat cap for one thing. Couldn't even go over 30. Skidding was different for BMR. They had a Reaction Phase as a separate timing of a turn. Crits didn't transfer. Kicks weren't modified by having damaged actuators. Infantry got a bunch of new shit, including anti-battlemech attacks. No, this is not exhaustive. Not even close.
>>97764667The Rakshasa, Mad Cat II, Eris, and Solitaire appear to be 2nd MAC, The Regent, Hollander and Uziel are the Fed's Dawn Guards, the Mad Dog IV is indistinct, but could be Wolf Epsilon, or any of a number of similar tan and brown camo'd units, and the Hammerhead is Sea Fox Spina Khanate. The Kontio doesn't match any Bear unit I can find, or have any insignia that might help. Maybe somebody's personal livery as opposed to a standard scheme, or the different colored sections could be meant to represent the stealth armor trying to keep up with the 'mechs surroundings.
>>97767120>appear to be 2nd MAC,See, I see the MAC symbol but that shit is GOLD not GREEN.
>>977671312nd Mac trim varies depending on the company.

FWIW, been a long time since the compendium has been seen, it's missing too much, everyone around has one of the BMR's even the last noob got one a few years ago after being shown that he could either buy that or buy 4-6 more full price books from CGL.

>>97767333A waste of misappropriated KS money. Especially given that despite whatever interest there was in it, it basically isn't really supported anyway because CGL can't managed a production timeline to save their life.

>>97767333Wasted potential, could have legs if they published construction rules and BV for the monsters.

>>97767333I still don't know why they are not giving out construction rule for the abominationa
That much blood from a pilot possible?
>>97767351Absolutely baffling that they thought to basically completely gloss over the real core difference and potential interest in the setting. Like I get why they did the models they did in the box simply because modifying existing STLs is comparatively simple, but in the end new casts are going to have to be made anyway. So they should have just invested the extra time to make and include the monsters. Also excluding those rules and whatnot for them just reeks of corporate panic that someone else might end up servicing the demand and if they can't make a dollar on it then no one can.
>>97767345The porch gave us no product and gutted our freelancer base, crippling the entire franchise for years.
>>97765862What about conventional aircraft? What are the most common ones in known space except for Clan space in 3025?
>>97767369Maybe the pilot had a big heart?
>>97767374As the other anon said, it was born of misappropriated funds, which if it were ever investigated would cause legal trouble with kickstarter, or at least get them banned from the platform. That puts it in the porch category.
>>97767386I thought KS terms and conditions were still worded in such a way that still stated that you are just gambling by throwing money at a screen and the person you give it to isn't obligated to actually use it for the intended purpose or deliver any product? Even if it was somehow confirmed that KS money was used incorrectly KS doesn't care so long as the KS brings in a lot of money they get to skim off the top from.
>>97767378The Mechbuster is the most prominent, probably due to its striking name and equipment, but the Meteor is probably the most common conventional fighter. Boomerang-likes are also common, but have very little place on the table and the Boomerang itself is merely an example of the class of ultralight prop plane spotters.
>>97767404Kickstarter already warned CGL about their practices, basically told them to get their shit together or GTFO because they kept failing to cough up backer rewards.
>>97767404People have gotten away with way more egregious kickstarter scams than that, if it's even true. When you throw money at a kickstarter, you are not legally buying or investing in anything. You are donating towards the development of something, emphasis on donating. They offer you a gift in the event that the development is successful, but did not sell that gift to you, nor did they guarantee anything other than that they would attempt to develop the thing. As long as they can show that an attempt was made to develop the thing, they're in the clear. The money is not earmarked.
>>97767415Yes KS is very tolerant of bullshit but as other anon just said, they warned CGL to cut the crap, the details were posted in the general sometime last year.
>>97767413Wow ok, I wasn't aware that KS was actually getting their shit together. That is actually nice to hear. Even if it is just a case of them holding real existing companies to task over this sort of shit that is a good start. Fucking hilarious how Corvus Belli has managed to get all its KSs done without major issue despite one landing smack dab in the middle of the coof. But CGL is on like their 4th or 5th and keeps running into the same problems repeatedly from their own incompetence.
Why can't CGL keep up with demand? They should be printing money with all the goys. Are they manufacturing the plastic at a loss or what?
>>97767156I just want the IP very far from the hands of Coleman and Bills. Specially Coleman. BIlls is just his enabler.
>>97767333Wasted money in a product that no oe wanted nor asked for, and a commercial faliure that is putting CGL more in the red.
>>97767405And what about VTOLs? I ask because I must wonder how much would one planet/system's government has to spend to even have a military without mechs at all?
>>97767446Reliance on cheap child slave labour from china. Quality discussion aside the result of this is bloating logistics costs and delays manufacture and the receiving of product in hand.
>>97767456Depending on source, a planetary government military is anything from a demi-company of tanks and a couple local mechwarriors to entire regiments of conventional forces.
What about toys for the goys then; I'm sure people are willing to spend the shekels for battletech model kits and action figures
Why can't cgl sell single minis again? They can sell the premiums singularly.I found a box of 4 savannah masters at a random lgs for 8 bucks too. So why do I have to buy a whole 40 dollar box to get one mech/2 vehicles I want? The worst thing I think they did was putting the maxims in a 75 dollar box
>>97767470So VTOL aircraft aren't as widely seen in the Inner Sphere nor Periphery as a contrast to everything else?
>>97767484It is actually a good question as to who has the rights to model kits or action figures. Entirely possible that is separate to the miniatures part of the IP license.
>>97767489They can sell singles now, but for a long time IWM had the right to sell minis and was allowing CGL to sell packs and a handful of "premium" models with the polite fiction that they were Alpha Strike card packs that also happened to include models. Now that CGL owns IWM, the only thing stopping them from selling singles is their own fear of UPC bloat and unpopular models collecting dust.
>>97767490VTOLs are actually very common relatively thanks to the minimized need for runways (for conventional aircraft) or launch bays.Their additional advantages in scouting make them about as common as conventional vehicles.
>>97767490They are around, just not talked about much. The further away you get from elite mech units, the less material there will be.
>>97767489Because they established that people will buy them this way, so why would they stop?
>>97767507Fiduciary Responsibility.Single minis is lower profits which is a loss for shareholders which is illegal to do knowingly.
>>97767489Originally it was because they were beholden to permission and licensing from Iron Wind Metals who where the actual holders of the license to make BT miniatures. And IWM didn't want CGL stepping on their toes more or less. CGL now actually owns IWM and that license so in theory there is nothing stopping them them selling their chinesium models individually. However the issue would still be that the manufacture for those models is from overseas and that will add costs and delays on any single model distribution they might want to do with them. The IWM metal production line they inherited still works though, but no idea how that exists now post handover. If they updated their own production stuff to resin they could probably do some stuff, but I doubt it would be a real money maker and not worth investing in in their minds.
>>97767517>which is illegal to do knowingly. Thanks dodge brothers and supreme court
>>97767490Yeah, VTOLs like the Warrior are common enough, as also stuff like the Atmo Fighters like the Guardian or the "strike fighters".

>>97767545No clue why you quoted me, but the salvage boxes are all just minis that failed quality control checks. Premium miniatures, not entirely sure on them.>That was sarcasm by the way.WOW no shit! What's next, The sky's blue?
>>97767545Their lowest chink bidder manufacture and refusal to sell individual mechs has resulted in over a thousand dollars of lost profit from my collection alone. So yeah, I'll tell you how business fucking works.
>>97767565>over a thousand dollars of lost profitHave you considered the people that purchase CGL's minis en masse are GOYCATTLE who will eat PIG SLOP if given to them branded as BattleTech?
>>97767580 (me)>>97767565Point being that one or dozens or even hundreds of pissed off would be customers will never amount to the thousands slopmaxxers are willing to drop on their BRANDED PRODUCT that they MUST consume by nature, it's sad, really. IK guys who """HATE""" CGL for being woke and they *still* back every kickstarter at the max cuz they are goycattle
>>97767580A significant portion of the playerbase prints, so much that CGL is going after STL's again with lawfare since they got IWM. They know every printing player represents hundreds to thousands of lost profit and it pisses them off. You're not wrong, as evidenced by the consumer ITT moaning about writing campaign packets because just an announcment of new rules has pre-obligated him to a purchase, but those consumer cattle npc corpo-cultists aren't enough.
>>97767545Those boxes are just gambling though, so they are allowed because gambling is based. Especially when you can hook the children on it.
>>97767604>because gambling is based.True!>>97767599>but those consumer cattle npc corpo-cultists aren't enough.I sincerely hope not, because it gives me hope!>as evidenced by the consumer ITT moaning about writing campaign packets because just an announcment of new rules has pre-obligated him to a purchaseYeah i saw that, quite embarrassing on his part to be joenest. Couldn't imagine that mindset. I'm only buying the new rules if my LGS's group changes over (which I hope they don't)
>>97767610Sooner or later they will cease to be a licensee and I suspect that they will be unwilling to engage in low level garage tier manufacture with the existing IWM stuff nor willing to invest in expanding it. When they lose out on the rules license they'll likely just sit on the IWM rights to sell them.
>>97767599>A significant portion of the playerbase prints, so much that CGL is going after STL's again with lawfare since they got IWM.Would be absolutely hilarious if CGL accepted the loss of being able to make shitty books and rulesets and transitioned to just doing the BT miniatures. I mean oh no think of all the 'nothing of value' that would be lost if that happened. Where would I get my officially signed off stories about horny teenage bi trans muslim mechwarriors then?
>>97767490Strike fighters and Warriors are going to be your most common air support. Aerospace fighters are hard to make
>>97767618>When they lose out on the rules license they'll likely just sit on the IWM rights to sell them. One of these days...
>>97767624Really only looks like they bought those rights so they'd have legal ground to C&D STL makers.
I hope the print LARPer ends up getting bored and fucking off. You'd think after three threads of bragging how important he is to saving the hobby he'd have posted at least one print.I get why you might pretend to be cheap on the internet, but I have no idea why you'd pretend to be poor.
>>97767655Lol. Butthurt much?
>>97767654The funny part about that is that will only work until legally challenged, which GW is already running head first into. It is entirely possible that the outcome of the current Ghamak case will settle whether a physical model producer has any claim over STLs or STL derivatives of physical product or IP. Regardless though they will experience the same problem trying to enforce their claims on places like Cults since Cults actually pushes back on that so long as the creators follow reasonable guidelines. And they can't do shit about people using the PGI STLs since PGI already gave the go ahead for personal use on those.
>>97767665Post prints.
>>97767361Because they would have to admit there aren't any and just made shit up as they went.
>>97767369Unfortunately can confirm. I've seen some shit.
>>97767727Hasn't stopped them before, you can't make the TW infantry using the rules in TM.
>>97767369Most mech-scale weaponry would just vaporize the pilot and incinerate his remains with a cockpit penetration so I would say usually no.Like if you shot someone directly with a 200mm HE shell it's not actually going to be that bloody because every part of his body that was identifiably flesh or blood pretty much instantly ceases to be.If it's a small burst of 15-20mm shells I'd say maybe.
>>97767770Anon, that pilot got CLAWED. That diorama is clearly a reference to the Kontio artwork.
>>97767737What are you talking about?
>>97767776The infantry in Total Warfare are not possible using the construction rules in Techmanual. Techmanual infantry is an aggregate of their equipment, with a collection of modifiers to their range, damage, and speed based on it, plus various armor factors. Total Warfare infantry are not any of that, instead they have arbitrary movement, range, and damage based on their "type". They're basically an entirely different category of unit that happens to share the same rules after they're put on the table.
>>97767774The cockpit damage doesn't really convey a claw attack.
>>97767794Does it convey a fuck off big laser attack you fucking aspie?
>>97767794That is quite literally what the Kontio became known for. A pilot killer because it has claws to hit cockpits with. It is in the artwork the diorama is referencing and part of its lore in the mech entry.
>>97767797>>97767799The model doesn't have the claw marks that the art does.
>>97767831Pretty sure that black area on the upper part of the cockpit is supposed to be caved in by the claws. They just couldn't model/paint it well enough to properly convey it.
>>97767784Total warfare glosses over the underlying math but I assure you it's possible to build a 24 person wheeled mechanized laser rifle infantry platoon that does 7 damage out to 6 hexes with the techmanual rules.
>>97767841Show your work and put the argument to bed.
>>97764986>unpainted minis>stock terrain
>>97767890TM says Laser rifle damage is .28, .28x24=6.72, rounded up to 7TM says Laser rifle base range is 2, 2x3 is 6What do you know, Total Warfare says that 24 guys with laser rifles do a maximum of 7 damage out to six hexes.
>>97767920Now do SRM infantry.
>>97767920Cool. Now the other guy can rebut this or admit he was wrong by not responding to it.
>>97767517Only applies to publicly traded companies. CGL is an imprint of In Media Res, which is a dual ownership LLC. They aren't subject to those requirements.Yes, maximizing shareholder dividends is a cancer and needs to be eradicated, but CGL isn't beholden to that and you're wrong to try and blame their actions on such regulation.
Unrelated to the current dick-swinging contest in this thread, does anyone have a print copy of TRO 3145 and 3150 that they'd be willing to either scan or snap a decent-resolution picture of their spines for me? I want to make a print copy that won't cost me an arm and a testicle, and that piece is the only thing missing from the PDFs.
>>97767542Honestly, I hope Topps takes a lesson from Hasbro and sends out the Pinkertons to kill people like you, just so you stop being such self-righteous cunts about your extra little hobby. Fuck yourself and fuck off.
>>97767580>Have you considered the people that purchase CGL's minis en masse are GOYCATTLE who will eat PIG SLOP if given to them branded as BattleTech?Everyone who has ever bought any Battletech product at all from anyone from anywhere for any reason, falls I to this category. The only reason to own Battletech product is because you stole or inherited it. Only those options are free from sin.
>>97767835>They just couldn't model/paint it well enough to properly convey it.Then they shouldn't have posted a picture of it. Either do it right or don't try. Nobody wants to see shitty painting or conversions.
>>97767983You seem to be the only one having this issue anon. Everyone else seems to have gotten it based on context clues and knowing the models involved and artwork it is referencing.
>>97767841nta, but iirc, TM flamer Infantry has a range of 0, whereas TW flamer infantry has a range of 1/2/3. But that could have been megamek fucking up too.
>>97768045Maybe the difference of infantry scale flame thrower versus mech scale equivalent flame thrower?
>>97767835The wreck lacking the kontio's claw marks or any laser scars just ends up making it look like there was no interaction between the two models.
>>97768060Anon I don't even have my glasses on and I can see the huge fucking scratch marks on the crossbars of the Timby's cockpit. Fucking deal.
>>97768057No because this applies to TW generic infantry vs TM non-generic infantry? This was not about mech stuff.
>>97768065The three gouges you mean?Does the kontio look like it has three claws per hand?
>>97768078Oh now you see them? At least you can fucking count.
>>97768083I see marks but they don't look like they were caused by lasers or the claws of a kontio. Why do you assume the kontio killed it if it lacks any marks that match any of the kontio's weapons?

>>97765888>I think removing all rules for non-mech units from the base gameWhat? They are not, are they? Battletech is a combined arms game, 99% of the complaints about over powered units comes from people playing mech only and thus having no counters to gausswall and pulse jumpers.
>>97766004>>97766023Suspicious timing on these posts...
To the anon last thread who claimed you couldn't heat up a shutdown mech in Alpha Strike; read the process for Cooling Down a couple times since you seem to also not be able to read
>>97768453Every non mech unit is being turned into a support unit card, which is very similar to an alpha strike unit card. It even uses a weird point system that isnt BV.
>>97765645>>97765767Its a dumbass decision since if you are trying to appeal to kids then you give them the Punisher not the fucking Teletubbies!
>>97768612Yeah cause Timmy is absolutely going to hate the 12 meter tall rip-and-tear serial-killer mech almost as much as he's going to hate the footballer lineman mech that's almost as wide as it is tall and bench presses small mountains.
>>97768597Even people who use BSP complained they have no flavor. Airstrikes are just a damage blob card, it might just as well be a magic spell.
>>97768663>I cast shiva S upon your locust
>>97768663Well fortunately for you, they have an entirely reworked aerospace BSP system for bombing, strafing and interception they released for playtesting LAST FUCKING YEAR; which apparently is going into the new Core Rules, which you would also know if you COULD FUCKING READ.

>>97768764The "core book" is basically an updated BMM, so adding non-mechs in any capacity is actually an upgrade. The comprehensive book that replaces TW is yet to be announced, but will come eventually.

>>97770277They just hate kickstarter backers, because the cocaine is long gone and they still want stuff.
>>97770182You dont understand, the new Core book is the replacement for TW. They will probably make a new book (or maybe two) for vees and infantry....eventually. Maybe.
>>97770306>Building on the critical and commercial success of the BattleMech Manual, a half-year of public playtesting brought forth the most cohesive, approachable, and dynamic set of rules for BattleTech ever: the new Core Rulebook. It's BMM2.
>>97770406>Core Rulebook>A core book (or core rulebook) is the primary, essential volume required to play a tabletop role playing game (RPG) or understand a specific system, containing foundational rules, character creation, and core mechanics. It acts as the central reference, often standing alone without needing immediate expansions or supplementary material. The BMM was not a "Core Rulebook" like this one pretends to be. Its the replacement for TW, not BMM.
If piracy is hardly any different from raiding missions mercenary groups get under the MRB/MRBC when those organizations existed, as I was told last year (https://desuarchive.org/tg/thread/96468405/#96469993), were there cases where pirate bands have been used as proxies by the Great House Fiefdoms/Successor States?

>>97774807It's a trap I fall into a lot with my 3d terrain boards. Physical terrain tends to look really crowded compared to 2d terrain, so if you replicate how cluttered most of the physical maps are, your board looks really busy. Picrel.

>>97776193Unfortunate timing, anon. Don't let it discourage you and just use their list of changes as the stuff you are able to skip. Even if you are going to be sticking with the existing rules due to playing with Grogs, a lot of stuff on the update like skidding and +1 Heat when not moving are ones that appear very infrequently so people pretty much always forget about and thereby don't use already.

Are the original strike fighter trio still the most common conventional fighters by ilClan?
>>97776435I imagine so, there's not much development in that category. The Seabuster is sick as hell though.
Why do people even care about dark age and ilclan lore if no one plays it?Do people play it?I'm kinda surprised more people don't just use the game to do their oc donut steel robot fighting combined arms settings considering there's construction rules for everything and the mechs and vehicles seem generic enough in function to just work for any real robot combined arms setting, so long as you don't expect inhuman aliens or magic anyways. Not to say there's not distinct battletech flavor to the different kinds of weaponry and assumptions in design, it just seems like its nothing that gets in the way.Even the manei domini stuff and battle armor seems like it could provide good enough framework if you want to fuck around with terminator style robots.I'm probably just missing key attachments or important aspects because I'm a newfag though.
>>97776465I'm trying to get a grasp on what would be the more common air support option, but between pocket warship orbital bombardment, aerospace fighter support, and conventional aircraft, it looks like conventional aircraft still maintain the majority of air units. It might have relatively more aerospace fighters than say the SW era, but confighters still seem like the most common. At least they do get some tech upgrades here and there.
>>97776479That's like asking why people care when the new star wars or star trek is bad. Also the typical battletech fan is not on 4chan.
>>97776479The way heat and ablative armor works is pretty specific to the setting relative to other mecha things. You certainly could just make your own stuff in your own setting using the rules, but your stuff will look and feel suspiciously like Battletech unless you start heavy homebrewing.
>>97776491>Also the typical battletech fan is not on 4chan.Pretty sure this applies to virtually all media
>>97776487ASF are the mechs of the sky and air breathers are the conventional vehicles except even more neglected
>>97776492I'm guessing its because starsector ripped battletech off, since battletech is way older, but while looking through the rules, the ablative armor and heat kept making me think of starsector, and now I think I should paint my minis in hedgie and luddic colors.
>>97776193I'm gonna be honest, no one ever uses skidding.Ever.It bogs games down, if I was playing with a DM i would see a use for it but this falls under the same rules of "We also don't play with destructive buildings"
>>97776479>Why do people even care about dark age and ilclan lore if no one plays it?>Do people play it?There are people who play it, moreso IlClan than Dark Age. Stuff like Hinterlands is really helping to carry it.>I'm kinda surprised more people don't just use the game to do their oc donut steel robot fighting combined arms settings considering there's construction rules for everything and the mechs and vehicles seem generic enough in function to just work for any real robot combined arms setting, so long as you don't expect inhuman aliens or magic anyways. It's more common for people to try and use them to import stuff from other settings into Battletech or write alternate histories of Battletech rather than trying to make their own settings, if they aren't trying to make their OCs and original worlds just exist in the periphiary or expanding some world that's got like one paragraph on Sarna. Not much incentive to go all in on making a fully custom setting when everything you could do can pretty much fit in already if it's not sapient aliens.
>>97776479People rarely want to play in someone else AU.
I think mekbay is broken.I am trying to build a DCMS ilclan era aerospace wing... and it tells me a huscarl company and samurai company are 100% matches... but sarna says they're bears and lyrans.WTF?it also has the formations wrong.so far I got 'company' A'flight' 1 - 6 huscarl R's - heavy battle squadron'flight' 2 - 6 tatsu b's - strike squadron'company' B'flight' 1 - 6 samurai 27's - Aerospace superiority squadron'flight 2 - 6 tatsu E's - EWAR squadronI need a whole other 'company' to make up what the DCMS calls an 'air wing'. 36 fighters.and mekbay say's this is a 100% match for dcms...
>>97776728MUL shows both showing available to the dracs post jihad. It's possible some other splat book mentions them having some available. In general, sarna is fairly incomplete, especially for anything post civil war.
>>97776773>>97776728Found something, Dominions Divided puts both on the Dracs RAT.
>>97776773got my third 'company'. the DCMS air wing is complete.'company' C'flight' 1 - 6 koroshiya A's - Heavy Battle Squadron'flight' 2 - 6 Oni 2's - AS superiority Squadron
each 'flight' (squadron) is broken down into three pairs of (actual flights) further.
>>97775441Same here, very cool set.
>>97776479We just started new hinterlands campain for newfags in ilclan era.
>>97776671>I'm gonna be honest, no one ever uses skidding.I use skidding. I can see simplifying it, but getting rid of it altogether makes me sad. I like urban terrain needing special considerations when operating in it, and watching fuckers slam into buildings or even yeet themselves off the map pleases me.
>>97776671I use skidding, also almost all of these changes seem to invalidate upgrading pilotting skills. Easier standing up, leg crits being less impactful, gyro crits going to +2, charging getting nerfed, at this point why even upgrade pilotting at all?
>>97777129There's still smacking motherfuckers with your hatchet to recommend it.
>>97777129I see it as more "why would they ever let a piloting 5 pilot actually go into combat when they should be at the circus slipping on banana peels and getting knocked over by custard pies to the face".
>>97776671I use it, but always found it a bit silly. I have no idea what the fuck they pave roads in the BT universe with when mechs are as likely to slip and fall when running down a highway as they are on ice. In real world asphalt has fairly high traction so cars don't go sliding all over the place when driving. You can tell the difference during the winter if there's ice on the road, as it makes it much more slippery.
>>97777250Cars hare rubber tires.Mechs have metal feet. Depending on how old and fucked this asphalt is it can be quite slippery for 60t at 80kmph.
>>97775441too tall and big for hex maps in my opinion unfortunately
>>97777297That would make the current rules make sense if wheeled vehicles also didn't skid using virtually the same rules in spite of said tires.I wonder if they're moving skidding to terrain rules so its something that specifically happens on icey or snowy tiles instead of mechs pratfalling on dry pavement. That would remove the general skidding rules while still having situations where poor traction is a concern.
>>97777319I would expect that ice hexes still have a chance to slip, but most of the environmental condition and special hex rules have always been optional. It would make sense that if ice has you make PSRs and +0 pavement should be -2 or 4 to the target number to reflect it being easier to slide on than less smooth terrain but not as bad as literally going ice-skating with your mech, but that would make the slipping on pavement rule kind of pointless as you'd be so unlikely to fail the test, and at that point you might just remove it completely instead of having players roll mostly pointless PSR tests every turn they run on pavement.
Wish there was redder desert/badland hexmap
>>97777319go ahead, drive your car around a bend at 100 mph
>>97777205>>97777189Fair but you're still losing a lot of bang for your BV buck now on pilotting skill.
>>97777409So that I'll skid? Dumbass? Do you want me to try it in a battlemech too just to get a feel for the difference? The difference that doesn't exist because both vehicles skid under the same conditions. Meaning that by the rules tires don't meaningfully change handling over battlemech feet?I'll never understand the tendency of people to come running into the thread and agreeing with me rudely.
