These are the top 10 RPGs for Fall 2025 according to ICV2. How many of these have you played?
>>97763254I've played older editions of three of them and the current edition of one. Heard of most, but not all.
>>97763254D&D, Pathfinder, Alien, VtM, cyberpunk. Although I doubt I play any of the editions that's referencing except for the Alien RPG (which is rad, by the way).
>>97763254These rankings are worthless because they don’t tell you how many stores they actually survey. And they are limited to the United States as well. It’s safe to assume if they don’t tell you how many stores they survey it’s not a significant number else they’d be using it in their marketing and to strengthen the validity of their data.
>>97763254Call of Cthulhu is not there?I thought it was more popular...
>>97763254D&D, Cosmere, Alien. Only Alien worth something.
>>97763672I mean, what do you suspect of being wrong on it? Seems right on the money to me, based on the conversations I hear around online spaces and in my flgs.
>>97763672They were worthless almost 20 years ago because of the shift away from brick and mortar stores for game sales.
>>97763254Damn. How do you fuck up Pathfinder so bad that people would rather play Starfinder.
>>97763916That's STARFINDER 2ND EDITION to you, son. No more $55 million knives or Exploding Suicide Gloves, I bet.
>>97763916Starfinder 2nd edition is more recent than Pathfinder 2nd edition, therefor it is more popular. Q.E.D.
>>97763254Dungeons and DragqueensCosqueerStargroomerCrooked TroonFaggershartShitseekerVampire: The MasqueradeAlien: NTRCyberspunk: BEDHork Chorg
>>97763862I literally wrote exactly why it’s worthless just read my post that you replied to
>>97764079Yeah, this entire list is pretty much "new things sell well." I imagine, even with Bloodlines 2 shitting the bed, it also put VtM in people's minds.>>97764079
>>97763254>cosmerenever heard of it.
>>97763254I've played Starfinder 1e and 2e, D&D, and that's it.
>>97765377Those sound more fun than D&Dogshit ngl
>>97763254It's because nearly all of these can be found at many major retailers. Every other RPG in print and on the market has to be bought directly from the creator or publisher.
>>97766036that's what makes it dogshit
One Ring mogs all of these>>97763424Alien RPG is cool but it strikes me as more board game-ish. I've enjoyed the games I've run though
>>97765377Ngl, I'd play Stargroomer and Cyberspunk in a heartbeat.
>>97766198>posts tranime>troons outyeah no shit
>>97763254Surprised Cosmere is Second thought that was mostly bought directly online for that core Brandon Sanderson fanbase.wonder how the Warhammer RPGs did
VTM wondering who are those creeps like a frightened fledgling lmao
>>97765377find the good game
>>97763862Holy fuck: are you trying to be stupid?
>>97763254>Mork Borg
>>97763686the latest edition came out almost 10 years ago
>>97766036anything is more fun than D&Dogshit
>>97763254I can't imagine being so tech illiterate that you take a photo of something and then need someone to take a photo of your photo of you holding your phone. Profound mental retardation.
>>97765377>Vampire: The Masquerade is unchanged.Fucking lost it.
>>97763254I refuse to believe anyone plays anything on this shitlist except maybe D&D.
>>97766094>products with corporate ties to the largest companies in the world and with preferential treatment from the largest distributors, due to said corporate ties, sell better than all other products without those benefitsThat's really all it comes down to. It's not just that D&D sells better, but that it's often the only fucking thing people can find when they go looking for RPGs to buy. My local book store has an RPG shelf that is 90% D&D books, special editions of D&D books, D&D adventures, D&D accessories, and then a couple copies of Faggershart, Cosmere, and Pathfinder.
>>97769225Vampire the Masquerade and Pathfinder have dedicated fanbases, so I can believe that. I never even heard of Crooked moon and Mork Borg. I vaguely know the names Starfinder, Cosmere and if I recall Daggerheart is just DnD, but changed so those streamers can stream campaigns without WotC getting on their case.
>>97769575Crooked Moon is backed by one of the largest and most popular actual play livestream shows that isn't Shitical Role. Mork Borg sells well because everyone hears about how well it sells, not because it's genuinely any good.
>>97763254Last time I checked, this photo supposedly represented end of 2024At least fucking get your digits right and stick to them.
>>97769542>but that it's often the only fucking thing people can find when they go looking for RPGs to buy.Wrong.That's the only people people are LOOKING FOR when trying to buy RPGs.It's 2026. Over 80% (depending on year it's 82-85% range) of all game sales are online. Barely anyone purchases games in actual stores, and if so - use them as a place to order their games to.Meaning the actual power is in marketing, the same it was since the dawn of TTRPG. The reason D&D grow big was due to all the money not wasted on hookers, blow and parties was put to marketing, whereas everyone else was thinking they are doing some niche hobby thing in other companies and there is no point to market it.
>>97770695You think the average fairweather D&D player is digging through drivethruRPG or itchio for non-D&D systems? Discoverability for RPGs has been god awful for decades and it's not helped that all RPG community spaces are dominated by faggots shilling D&D as the ultimate system.
>>97763254I legitimately have never heard of Cosmere before this threadAre people really that into Brandon Sanderson?
>>97768786kek
>>97763254Cosmere wasn't played, people bought it just for the art.
>>97771578I wouldn't be surprised if the Sando fans bought up the books just because the man directly promoted them with the promise of deeper lore and answers to things not covered in the books. I got roped into a small demo of the game at the last GenCon and the guy would not stop namedropping shit from books I didn't read, really excited to talk up how the system actually covers shit that was never explicitly explained.>Remember in book 8 about how they mention the Oath of the Oathholders and how they aren't allowed to tell you what the Oath is?>THIS SYSTEM LET'S YOU CREATE YOUR OATHHOLDERS HELD OATH If I gave a single fuck about those books, that probably would have been mildly interesting to learn about.
who the fuck is playing starfinder in current year -1?
>>97771405He does sell a lot of books, but I'm surprised that group also bought a bunch of TTRPG books
>>97773575All of the people I know into Sanderson are also d&d people.
>>97773610Lies
>>97763254>Folk Horror.... But D&D!!!>Gay Space Adventure.... But D&D!!!They're so scared to play something different.
>>97763254Quickly becoming the worst editionSomehow worse in spite of being newShitty version of Stars Without NumberLiteral slop for the most generic D&D editionMediocre overpriced high fantasy trashIt's okay. Not for me, but okay.Vampire: The MasqueradeAlien RPG- actual quality gameCyberpunk REDMRUK BRUUG- art project pretending to be RPG
>>97773503Tell me you have more
>>97773503Fuck that is bad.
>>97775170I mean, I'm into roleplaying so there is a massive selection bias, but it seems like he attracts the kind of fantasy fans who would also play d&d.
>>97775806more fun facts:>despite being a space opera system, there is no way to sell or purchase ships. Ships have no monetary value. the party just gets one for free. >a level-1 shotgun cannot kill a civilian human in one shot, RAW>the difficulty for spaceship-related checks increases with your character level>in the initial release of the system, it increased more quickly than characters' spaceship skills did, leading to situations where level 20 parties would be MUCH worse at spacefaring than level 1 parties
>>97776181>the difficulty for spaceship-related checks increases with your character level>in the initial release of the system, it increased more quickly than characters' spaceship skills did, leading to situations where level 20 parties would be MUCH worse at spacefaring than level 1 partiesThey pulled another Truenamer?
>>97775170Realistically speaking there is no way for you to make that claim based on facts. It's almost as retarded as replying "lies" to a post that says "x is my favorite y".
>>97763254>pathfinder that far downWhat the FUCK happened>>97776181>>despite being a space opera system, there is no way to sell or purchase ships. Ships have no monetary value. the party just gets one for free.Is there at least a fluffy in-universe explanation for that? Ships are some lost archaeotech to the point of being literally invaluable and how you wind up getting one is the setting's equivalent of "you meet in a tavern," or something?
>>97766036>D&D hater thinks it would be more fun to play games about groomingHmmm...
Crooked Moon is literally just a 5e setting.
>>97777552Yeah, was going to say, it's just based on 5E
>>97765377got'em
>>97763254who the fuck is icv2>>97763672>storesoh it's a shareholder optics thing, who cares
>>97763254Daggerheart is okay besides the obnoxious combat.
>>97763254Is this some amerifag thing? I haven't heard of half of these.>>97763686Literally all they play in asia. Japs and Koreans love it.
>CosmereIs that actually any good or is it just a bunch of Mormons buying it to funnel cash to BrandoSando>Crooked MoonLiterally never heard of this before, wtf
>>97777552Looks extremely gay.
>>97789646It blows. It’s just 5e with a cosmere skin. Don’t let the fucking “complication die” fool you
>>97763254There's no way in hell Daggerheart is more popular than Pathfinder.
>>97777423DnDogGroomers
>>97773503Starfinder is made for the kind of autist who cares about nothing beyond number go up in Society games
