This is the second year in a row I've seen stuff for this game at Adepticon, but I still have no idea what it is or what it's about or where to buy it. I'm a slut for big ship games, so I'm interested, but is this a steampunk RPG, a wargame, or something else? There's even a 30 foot LCD screen with an ad for this up on the Board Center. What the fuck even is this thing and why doesn't it exist anywhere? What the hell is Leviathans?
>>97767057Looks like bootleg Aeronef.
>>97767057It's from Catalyst, so it's probably some form of tax dodging vaporware that will never actually make it to a market. That company is run by criminals who have no interest in actually making games. That's why their kickstarters have been such massive failures. I'm willing to make a bet that if this """leviathans""" ever gets offered for sale to actual people, I'll eat a bullet.
>>97767057>What the hell is Leviathans?A steampunk wargame. Imagine if the Russians had showed up to Tsushima in 1905 with flying battleships and beat the IJN like they owed them money. Ten years later, WW1 hasn't quite happened yet, but all the major nations now have those flying battleships - the titular Leviathans - and you play out battles between them.Catalyst tried to make it happen in 2008 or so, but the game was basically fucking cursed. Pic related.
>>97768260And more testimony from someone who was an insider at the time.
>>97768260CGL really are beyond fucking incompetent when it comes to delivery and business sense.
>>97770451Aside from making the game in China in the first place, none of that reads as CGLs fault to me anon. Are you sure you don't have a vendetta against CGL?
>>97770615They have a track record of fucking shipping consistently and trying to blame others when really is their own fault. Their Battletech kickstarters have been one shitshow after another when it comes to delivering the product.
>>97770667I mean, I get you. I backed the first BT KS and I wasn't real happy about it. I didn't back the second. But just because the BT KSs were a shitshow doesn't mean that the shit happening in >>97768260 is their fault. Two things can be true at the same time. CGL can be a poorly managed company AND they got royally fucked by terrible luck outside of their control when they made leviathans.
>>97770706Nah fuck you I prefer complaining irrationally as its about the only way to keep Leviathan discussion going. :^)
>>97767057Oh yeah I remember it, did they start full production on it?
>>97770904It's for sale as of today at Adepticon.
>>97767057Im at adepticon too anon, and have a demo scheduled today at noon, so I'll report back if it's any good. >I'm a slut for big ship gamesFellow SW armada refugee, I assume?
>>97771247if you like it, buy it now. What's on the shelf is likely the only stock they have. Retailers have practically none, nor does the secondary market. I'm regretting only picking up the Italians from the last kickstarter, I'm never getting the other new fleets.
>>97778714>I'll report back if it's any good.Followup. I'm hyped. Fun game, smart and easy shooting mechanics. Bought a rulebook and a pair of starter fleets. Rules seem a little loose, but I'm used to Too Fat Lardies rules, so these are ok by me. Definitely scratches the itch that Armada left, plus it's a bit more granular in terms of on board ship systems. It feels a bit like Battletech, but with WAY less effort. Moderately strong recommend if you're in to Big Ship games.
>>97782577Interesting, I heard that Austria-Hungary is like a ramming focused faction, does that actually work or is it like a meme faction?
>>97767057
>>97767057This game looks so fucking good.
>>97789226
>>97782577Only ship game I know is BFG, any similarity?
