Is it good or bad to make NPCs and dialogue options through AI? It depends on what AI you use, but if I need to quickly make an NPC or creature, I will just get Claude AI to make it in less than a minute then tweak it. But is it ethical to use AI for this?
>>
>>97768144
I don't see a problem with it, I hate coming up with a bunch of bit part Npcs, so it's great to go with something like "give me a small wild west town full of appropriate NPCs." I also got it to spit out pretty solid simplified enemy statblocks for CP:Red.
>>
It's good, there is a lot of great use for AI to help with prep and some improvisation.
Don't let idiots who can't get with the times and blindly hate AI to put you off it.
>>
>>97768144
I've tried to use AI a little bit. Even when it's just used for inspiration I often find it just has a certain clinical static feel. Like it lacks any real thought or soul. Which it doesn't.

>Is it good or bad to make NPCs and dialogue options through AI?
NPCs, sure but AI has no concept of balance. Dialogue? Are you going to ask them to wait while you type it into AI lmao. If it's "pre-written dialogue" just write it yourself dummy.

>if I need to quickly make an NPC or creature, I will just get Claude AI to make it in less than a minute then tweak it.
Yes that is fine. I assume you're talking about some form of D&D. I have found it's perfectly fine for that sort of thing but definitely needs tweaking.

>But is it ethical to use AI for this?
It's ethical, it's not like you're charging anyone for your slop (I assume!) It's lazy though and you would do a better job without AI.
>>
I think it'd be redundant. Many games have tables you can roll on to quickly generate a character, and some of them have even been put into co.puter scripts or programs.
>>
It's only good enough to generate shit you don't really care about, and there's very little need to generate a lot of shit you don't care about.
>>
>>97768144
AI's a tool and it's fine as long as you view and use it as a tool rather than another person you can delegate things to. However:
>dialogue options
Surely those aren't something you predetermine in a TTRPG?
>>
>>97768373
I just have opening lines and ending lines, as well as content for certain prompts or queries. But I ad lib the responses when a player has questions or diverges from the script. The AI helps when it's in a dialect I don't know well enough to write in.
>>
>>97768144
>prepping
lmao noob trap.
>>
>>97768456
If you aren't going to put effort in, why should your players?
>>
>>97768489
Because we play games. You wouldn't know anything about that though.
>>
>>97768503
How do I know you even play games if this is all online and anonymous? Half this website is shitposting, so it's healthier to assume you don't say what you do.
>>
>>97768508
Play in real life with your real life friends retard.
>>
>>97768513
Lying shitposter.
>>
>>97768144
Pathetic and inhuman.
>>97768177
>Don't let idiots who can't get with the times and blindly hate AI to put you off it.
When the day of the cable comes, life traitors like you will hang first.
>>
>>97768515
Nope. Been running games lobger than you pal. The less prep I've put in the more fun we have. At the beginning I too prepped alot. Then I realized its pointless and started running low prep and then no prep like I do now. The game is more fun for me and my group. I'm a busy adult with a job and also studying for a degree. You'll know this and remember my words one day.
>>
>>97768528
So you’re some boring millennial who doesn’t own his house outright and you’re lecturing me about organisation and time management, when you’re some basic wageslave bitch.
>>
>>97768554
Dude I'm a 26. I have a house, a job, a wife and still get to run more games than you. Fucking loser lmao.
>>
>>97768566
>I'm a 26
You are also ESL.
>>
>>97768574
Yes Ivmade a minor spelling mistake and still have a better life than you AND have friends to play games with irl weekly.

But hey at least you prep games eventhough you never play them.
>>
>>97768583
You seem mad. I'm a published author and an anti-natalist. Nothing makes me feel more sick than hearing some natalist pump his fat sow of a wife as he brags about playing fucking TTRPGs of all things. Go do something productive with your life, wageslave. Do you think you'll even provide for your wife and kids when we will experience a cost of living crisis? Do you think your kids will have a house, you selfish fuck? At least I bring art into this world rather than more hungry mouths I can't feed.
>>
>>97768144
Is it "ethical?" Sure man. Play games you enjoy, use tools you find useful. It really isn't anything more than a super-complex random table.
>>
>>97768528
>identity politics and sign posting over a hobby
Jesus christ dude.
>>
>>97768587
Such an "artist" you have to result to using ai for your game prep :D
>>
>>97768606
AI is a tool that will be integrated into the creative industries once it develops more. Publishers are freaking out over AI that they think even using it to do light editing is going to ruin their tenuous claims to copyright. Anyone with a brain would use it to liberate us from the drudgery that drains us of energy. AI will have a revolutionary role in changing society and make it more efficient one day, as well as help us solve the energy crisis. We are already using AI for industrial-grade lathes and machinery, to reduce pollution and waste, but that's not something you know about because you likely have a minimum-wage job. Good luck with your studies, you will need it. I don't glean any intelligence from your posts. Go slam your fat sow of a wife and bring more suffering into the universe.
>>
>>97768614
>ai "artist"
>calls others stupid
Yeah sure gamelet keep seething.
>>
>>97768616
AI will replace your minimum wage job and you doing a degree at 26 shows you are failing at life. I was already in a PhD at 23. Begone, swine.
>>
only for solo play
>>
>>97768554
>wageslave bitch
So, do you run your own business that you founded yourself as a part of the process of pulling yourself up by the bootstraps, or where is this contempt for employees coming from?

>>97768587
>published author
Oh, so you make your living off the money wageslaves give you off their wages in return for whatever it is you publish, but for some reason you also look down on the people supporting you? Okay.
>>
>>97768696
I'm a proud bohemian artist, you square. I would never take a "job" (read: sucking up to the Man).
>>
>>97768701
Okay. So do you live off sales, ie. engaging with the capitalist system to get your share of the money other people make by sucking up to the man, off an inheritance, off other people's tax money, or what?
>>
>>97768587
>anti-natalist
The most idiotic idea I've ever heard of. How does one manage to be even more obviously retarded than young earth creationists?
>>
>>97768489
How much prep do your players do?
>>
>>97768776
They usually tell me how they want their games, what their characters' motivations or concepts behind them are, or work on their character sheet while I'm doing prep. It's a two-way street.
>>97768768
Do you think your kids are going to enjoy living in World War 3?
>>97768756
Tax money. But I'm not unknown in publishing and do make pro rates, I just don't make enough to live off it.
>>
>>97768835
>don't engage in a basic part of your biology and a celebrated social and personal good because Future Bad
Sorry to hear about your brain rot, but that's no excuse for trying to spread it.
>>
>>97768903
How do you know I am healthy enough or rich enough to support children? In my country, the average cost for raising a child until they are 18 is about a million dollars. It's too hard to give them a good life amidst the rise in food prices, rent, and cost of a quality education.
>>
>>97768928
"I am not in a position to raise a child" is not anti-natalism. It's not a question of whether you personally ought to drop what you're doing right now and go reproduce, but whether reproduction is generally good for people and society.
>>
>>97768950
Due to urbanisation, industrialisation, and overpopulation, I think it's better to have less children. Third worlders are breeding like crazy and most of them die early or have a life of suffering. Why do you think Indian women commit suicide when they work 24/7 and don't have any life outside breeding and working and slaving away for their family? We can't keep having families of more than a few kids anymore, even in the developed west. There's too much pollution. You can have kids, that's your biological right, but don't blame me if your kids end up hating their life. The future is going to be shit and you're a fool for thinking we'll survive a hot war between the US and Russia and China.
>>
>>97768144
Not really. But you don’t need my validation o anyone else’s if you want to do it anyways, OP. Just be wary of using it as a crutch, cause there’s studies that say people start losing their creativity if they complete ply outsource their thinking.
>>
>>97768456
Are you the loser that keeps seething about quantum ogres and railroading despite never playing games? How pathetic do you have to be to suck corporate ai cook too?
>>
>>97768614
>AI will […] solve the energy crisis
This must be a false flag shitpost. The thing driving up energy costs and straining local power grids is not, in fact, the solution to those problems.
>>
>>97769088
AI can be used for efficiency and already is. You just don't understand the bigger picture...
>>
>>97768144
>But is it ethical to use AI for this?
A tool can't be unethical, that's retarded
>>
>>97769100
That’s always been code for “just ignore all the shit going on in front of you cause you’re not one of us”
>>
>>97769106
AI was trained on pirated ebooks, so people in publishing often claim it was an illegal use of authors' copyrighted materials for something they didn't consent to.
>>97769111
Isn't it just an objective fact that AI is used to reduce waste and pollution in manufacturing? It's not really my opinion, but exists independent of what I think.
>>
>>97768144
Its fine saar.
White benchods are mad at us Brahmin.
>>
>>97769133
It’s also pretty objective fact it’s creating its own massive brand of waste in addition to contributing to the waste byproducts of the tech industry as well as sucking up important resources and straining electronic grids that the government still refuses to do anything about. It’s not my opinion, it exists independent of what I think.
>>
>>97768144
>Is it good or bad to make NPCs and dialogue options
Yes, it's bad.
Play games instead of wasting your players' time with your failed novels.

If it's so bad, then become an ecoterrorist and tear down the Establishment with your individual acts of terror. The putrefaction of the technocratic class needs to be purified with the blood of every last tech startup bro.
>>
>>97769164
I am not a failed novelist, though. I even got featured in a big name speculative fiction magazine recently. Sorry that you don't like dialogue and world building with acting. Or do you think that's for "drama kids" and thespians?
>>
>>97769168
>You must worship big tech cock or go ecoterrorist
Go fuck your mother
>>
>>97769188
Do you think capitalism can be reformed? The logical conclusion of our economic belief system is cyberpunk dystopia.
>>
>>97769183
Prove it. Post the magazine and your article.
>>
>>97769133
>AI was trained on pirated ebooks
Digital piracy isn't unethical either
>so people in publishing often claim it was an illegal use of authors' copyrighted materials for something they didn't consent to
A lot of metals used in our cellphones and computers come from illegal mining. Will you stop using them too? No, that would be retarded. The consumer has nothing to do with the fucked up thing at the beginning of the chain
>>
>>97769195
You know you’re not changing my mind on your shitty llms by pointing out capitalism sucks, right? I can hate both just fine.
>>
>>97769183
>Or do you think that's for "drama kids" and thespians?
It's for anyone who doesn't like games, considering they aren't games.

There is no ethical consumption under capitalism, incel.
>>97769206
A socialist system would likely have robots or AI of some kind.
>>97769217
TTRPGs are about ROLE PLAYING, not just gaming.

Anyway, yes, and that's a good thing.

Well, it’s the level of quality I expected.

I’m not saying that in a mice way, either.

Anyway, not going to entertain your delusions. Go to /pol/ if you want to masturbate to your political fantasies
>>
>>97769226
>TTRPGs are about ROLE PLAYING, not just gaming.
Deciding the character and behavior of someone who isn't oneself is roleplaying, regardless of if you put on a voice or not. In fact, your form of roleplay is more role adoption, than roleplay.
>>
>>97769247
You're assmad at something you can't even define. Tell the class what you think communism is.
>>
>>97769254
I'm not mad about anything, I said (You) are mad about capitalism. I'm not against communism at all, I just pity you retarded zoomers who got brainwashed into thinking everything is the fault of le evil capitalism. Anyway, >>>/pol/

I'll sometimes use AI if I'm on a block and can't think of a filler npc for a tavern or a secondary effect for a magic item. I'll usually have it generate a dozen suggestions, pick the one I like and continue from there.
>>
>>97768144
>Is it good or bad to make (AI) NPCs
Every time I've tried to use any AI service to generate a quick NPC, it always gives me terrible names, and retarded concepts. The frustration made me just come up with something better on the spot, and then stop using AI.

>dialogue options
What the fuck are you talking about?
>>
If RP and prep is stressful for you to the point of feeling like you need this, it can reduce friction and be an overall positive.

But if your first impulse is to lean on AI, I think that can be indicative of an unhealthy relationship to the hobby. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind, but if you have to ask if it's good or not, it might mean there's a part of you that thinks it's bad. Do with that what you want, but try to use the tech responsibly and be honest with yourself about whether your use of it enriches you or atrophies you.

I've tried it in good faith and found that it's still more fun for me to do it myself. I can't relate to people who take pride in the AI art they prompted as if they are the artist, but I can sympathise with people who are stuck on the white page problem and just need the kick of having something to get started with, and can't find another solution

>There is no ethical consumption under capitalism, incel.
Copyright as a concept exists to protect the profit of an individual and serves to arvitrarily restrict access to knowledge and culture despite the fact that the means to distribute it to everyone existing. The greatest proponents of IP law are massive multi-billion dollar brands who use it to both suppress competition and harass random individuals over minor infringements. If you object to capitalism you have no business defending copyright.
