How many metal pieces is the Yao Lien come in?
>>977786124, plus an extra right arm for some reason.
>>97778599There's some vague hints they did pull a Minnesota Tribe. Some of their DropShips were hiding on the planets in the Colleen system after the colonies had been annihilated, only being detected and destroyed when they for some reason lifted off and tried heading to space. Since DSs can't travel out of system there's very little reason for them to do that unless they were expecting to rondeauvue with a friendly JumpShip somewhere in the system. There's also rumors of CBS ships being sighted in the deep Periphery some time during the Dark Age, and implication that some of their survivors somehow ended up in the Green Ghosts. Also, in the WoR book whenever a Clan is destroyed their logo is removed from the page margins. The CBS logo is the only exception, as it is just faded out but remains still visible even at the end of the book.

Batrep: Davion Girls vs. Liao RaidersDavion GirlsVTR-9B 4/4, Lysa "Hoops" Cooper [Lance Leader]ARC-2R 4/6, Rebecca "Becca" AndersonCRD-3R 4/6, Orabella "Belle" WaghellaLCT-1M 6/2, Danni "Roadrunner" VinyardLCT-1M 4/4, Rachel "Coyote" KoyLiao RaidersVTR-9B 4/5GHR-5H 4/5HBK-4SPCN9-AL 4/5SRM2 Vehicle 4/5, BV ~100SetupA lance of Capellans have dropped onto a Davion planet to raid it. They expected an easy time, but unknown to them, the system they were raiding was home to St. Fiacre of Breuil High School for Girls; a school that was dedicated to training girls that inherited mechs into becoming battle ready mechwarriors. The level of talent varies between the students and they are far from fully trained, but when the Liao Raiders arrived, they were the only force on the planet able to immediately respond, so they powered up their mechs and sortied for some live-fire training.Real Life SetupIt's a work night and we're meeting up at a LGS, but we've all got enough time to stay until the store closes, so 5 hours. There was a last minute change of a new guy showing up, so it turned into an inadvertent teaching game. Naturally this slowed down the pace of the game. The overall objective of the game was simply that we wanted to smash some mechs together after work on a weeknight. As a result, tactics took a backseat to getting some action done.Rules wise, we used a lot of the newer rules and made our decisions as we went. The most notable ones that mattered were using -1 to hit for both kicks and punches, max 20 damage for ammo explosions, floating crits, and +1 to initiative rolls on the next roll for each lost initiative roll until you win one.Turn 1 start & end pictured.-----
Turn 1Everyone starts off the board and has to move on to it. Every shot the Capellans take misses. The Davion Girls get a strong start.Coyote hits the Centurion with 2LRM to plink the armor.Hoops lands a long range AC20 shot on the Hunchback that hits the LA. The Hunchback passes its PS roll and stays standing.Roadrunner rushes up to the vehicle and manages to crush it underfoot immediately.Turn 2Liao won intiative. On turn 2, the newguy was given complete control of the Liao Raiders. He was given free reign for all the mech movements, but was very heavily guided with what the Hunchback should probably do. He really wanted the Hunchback to walk backwards to try and stay safe after the damaged arm, but we convinced him to charge forward and be more aggressive, for explosive results. On the eastern front, Coyote runs around in a circle and ends in heavy cover before plinking the Centurion with 3LRM. Coyote drew the fire of the Liao Victor and Centurion, managing to dodge all the Liao attacks. The Liao Grasshopper decided to abandon the highground to walk down into the river, prompting Roadrunner to run across the bridge and around to get behind it. As a result of this, Roadrunner lands a ML hit and a kick. The Grasshopper's RA is hit and crit, destroying a heat sink and the Upper Arm Actuator. While minor, the UAA crit and the aim penalty for 1 of its ML would cause it to miss an attack on later turns that would have otherwise hit. Roadrunner did not get away unscathed however, as the Grasshopper landed an attack that hit the LA, which of course destroyed it.Turn 2 pictured. Turn 2 continued in next post.
Turn 2 continued. The biggest action this turn happened with the Hunchback running forward to get into the rear arc of the Belle's Crusader. The Liao Hunchback landed a crit on the rear of the LT resulting in an ammo explosion. Since we were using the new rules, this led to a 20 damage maximum. So instead of the Crusader being completely destroyed, it lost its LA, LT, and took serious CT damage instead. An SRM also happened to hit the head from this attack and the Crusader did fall over from the damage. When all was said and done, Belle had taken 3 Mechwarrior injuries and the Crusader was down to less than half strength. Yet this was still better than complete destruction. The ammo explosion rule change would prove to change the entire outcome of the battle.Turn 3Davion Girls won the initiative.Roadrunner harnessed protagonist energy to land a secondary ML shot on the Victor while missing the LRM shot on the rear of the Centurion. Coyote also missed all of her shots. The Liao Victor alpha strikes Roadrunner, landing a single weapon hit that crits Roadrunner's engine and leaves 1 point of structure on the CT.The Liao Grasshopper attacked the Archer, hitting with 2ML. 1 of the ML missed due to the damaged UAA on the RA from Roadrunner's earlier crit. The Hunchback attacked Belle, while Belle, Hoops, and Becca all unloaded on it. They were out for blood on the Hunchback and looking to bring it down. While Belle took even more damage, leaving the Crusader dangerously battered, she survived while standing. The Liao Hunchback however, lost its other arm, a torso, and a leg from getting kicked by both Belle's Crusader and Hoops's Victor. The Liao Hunchback was removed from the board, most effectively dead.
Turn 4, Final TurnDavion Girls won the initiative.Yep, just 4 turns. The game moved slow due to teaching and limited time, but we knew at the start of this turn that it would be the last one.On the Roadrunner front, he had become super focused on trying to bring her down. To his credit, he did land a shot that forced her to eject, an AC20 shot actually. Roadrunner down. Our newguy has the spirt of a Clanner warrior in him. He wanted to duel and so let his Grasshopper stay atop the mountain as Becca moved her Archer up to join him. Coyote gladly shot the Grasshopper's rear and landed a ML and 3LRM shots. Hoops in her Victor, had a disappointing turn of landing 2SRM shots and whiffing everything else. Becca's attacks were equally ineffective. The Liao Grasshopper foccused Belle again and did some damage, but she remained standing. Belle fired back and managed to get a double crit on the CT that hit the engine and gyro, which caused the Grasshopper to fall over.Game Over.Final AnalysisThe new guy felt the swing of emotions that is Battletech. He accused my Archer of having protagonist powers for shrugging off 2ML shots the turn after he blew up half of the Crusader. We ribbed him about that to help give him some perspective. A win was declared for the Davion Schoolgirls, but it was impossible not to acknowledge that it was because of the limited ammo explosion damage rule. It was Belle's Crusader that helped take out the Hunchback and scored the crits on the Grasshopper at the end that disabled it. If it were the old ammo explosion rules, none of that would have happened and Liao would have certainly taken the win off the early momentum of taking out a Crusader so quickly.Ultimately though, a new guy was taught the ropes of the game, some mechs were smashed together, and did some cool things. A good time was had by all.Batrep Concluded.

Still waiting for the Raven Alliance to make the first Clan grade LAM.
>>97779759That's next level.
>>97779762You'll be waiting a while. While Herb and his bizarre and probably sexual hatred of LAMs no longer has the influence in the studio he had in the 2000s, nobody at CGL seems to love LAMs enough to push for a new one.>>97779768It was kind of obligatory given we play in New Mexico.

>>97779853That's a nice touch.
>>97779776They did include LAM battlefield support cards, so they aren't completely dead. However, LAMs need a massive rule revision before new ones can be made. Airmech mode simultaneously has a ton of unique exceptions to try and nerf it, but simultaneously ends up overpowered. If they were to bring it back, maybe they could start with a new version of Bimodal that's cheaper weight-wise to the current triple form, and giving that specific form access to Endo Steel, Ferro-Fibrous, etc. Then when they figure out how to get AirMech to a reasonable state, reintroduce triple changers. Maybe making some Bimodal variants of Mech-Airmech and Airmech-Aerospace.

>>97779762>>97780281I’m in the camp that even if you could make LAMs work rules-wise, I’d prefer them to be an experimental, niche form of mech at the absolute most. I’d hardly call for their outright erasure, they’re just not what I want out of Battletech.

>>97781119What makes the regent a meme mech? Just the fact that the pope piloted one for a little bit?
>>97781201That too, but the fact that it's literally a meme of a Hauptmann and Awesome frankenmech. As in, it started as a literal joke of someone saying "haha, I mixed an Awesome and a Hauptmann! Mad Cat in its complete inhuman, sleek, over-gunned in all the options look sells the hell out of the clan invasion feel.Regent? Just a big brick awesome/hunchback smush looking thing. In an era of weird and wild shit where stuff has like partial wings and claws on the regular. it looks like it could have been a (modern redraw of) a 3060s mech. >>97781605This modern idea of "pedo" being applied when a woman is post-pubescent is just as culturally new as trannyism. For MILLENIA the totally natural attraction to biologically developed females has been the norm in EVERY culture on earth, because it's the biological programming we evolved with.So yes, people aren't repulsed by it like they are repulsed by trannies.Mostly only aging women object, but subjectively the fucking moment a woman starts to bleed they ALL try to attract sexual atention and start breeding, they only get offended on a personal level about it when they get replaced because they sat on the carousel too long thinking the ride was eternal.

It might theoretically be possible to make it so one person appears to be genetically identical to another (but all those Comstar body doubles that got genetically tested could have also just compromised the testing labs to show what Comstar wanted seen, we don't actually know for sure), but things like the fish people or elementals or any of the wacky super predators clan scientists made for a laugh are done by fucking with their genetics before they were even conceived.

I think trannies really just feel like an aspect of the modern west more than they do anything else necessarily, so they can be jarring to see in settings which aren't modern and western. It feels very artificial, which is funny cause that's how people feel they seem here.I'm not saying people with autistic sexual neuroses or hermaphrodites didn't exist in the past and they won't in the future, just that they weren't and probably won't be the lockstep stereotype of what trannies are today. Weird religious figures like those indian troons? Probably. Individuals destroyed by degenerate sadists like Sporus? Sure.Faggolas lusting after other guys like Oscar Wilde? Probably.I'm sure canopian men are probably emasculated or effete. But a widespread secular masturbation movement to the idea of being the futa in a rule34 1girl 1futa image, that gets pissed off if you don't encourage them? Idk, its not impossible, but seems kinda unlikely, especially as the backlash grows.
>>97782329SRMS are unguided but do more damage with a shorter range.LRMS are long range, guided, but do less damage individually than SRMSClan LRMS do not have a minimum range like normal ones do, so they can sort of serve dual purpose, but the damage up close is reduced compared to just taking an SRM.
>>97782328>And yet the double of Janos Marik passed genetic testingThomas, not Janos. And we actually have no idea how that went down, because the two of them were parent trapping the FWL super hard. It might have actually been real Thomas who took the tests, or false Thomas could have had that level of extensive alteration or Comstar could have just tampered with the results by intercepting it or having a ROM agent run the tests. They had an infinite black budget for this operation.
>>97782354>SRMS are unguidedSRMs are still guided, they just can't indirect fire. MWO is not a particularly accurate depiction of the setting.>>97782329Main difference is SRMs do damage in clusters of 2, while LRMs do damage in 5s. So srms give you more individual damage instances, but tend to spread damage more than LRMs.
During the early clan invasion, how crazy into zelbrigen were the clanners really?I heard they accepted a football match with rasalhague, is that accurate? How far does stuff like that extend? Shouldn't they want to at least keep the dueling and betting to mechs and such?
>>97782438Sorry I meant Joshua not Janos, the one the FedSuns fucked up with.
>>97782470Clans dueling rules is that you can bid down or bid weird as long as it's a contest of skill and combat-adjacent. Some clanners might accept something like a chess match, others might insist that it has to at least be a physical competition, still others might insist that it has to be directly head to head (so football is good because those dudes are tackling each other and dodging and weaving other players, but a foot race might not be because each racer is just doing their own thing at the same time as the other racers). The main concern is whether you believe the opposition will actually abide by the rules and remain honorable. A planet that says they don't have a military but are willing to fight how they can is a much more tolerable football duel than a world with entire regiments waiting in the wings, because you know they aren't going to throw a tantrum and attack if they lose.

Go with a highball estimate of 1%, you hit a number 5x the current IRL population of Earth.Bit more than a quest can handle, especially with Jump Ships only being in the 10s of thousands even with that 10x multiplier to the original FASA numbers.
>>97783169So you only use SW mechs and ilclan shit is wasted money.

>>97782168>Elementals are very big and strong, but they're not much tougher than a normal personThat would be rather bad writing honestly because actual regular people are a lot weaker than hypothetical people with 300 pounds of muscle that are 7 feet tall.

>>97783441It's really bad to get knife wounds on your wrists and forearms, and the people killing elementals with knives are almost always professional soldiers themselves.
Hypothetical:If an incident were to happen in the Battletech timeline that were to echo the “incident” at Waco TX, which factions feel like the most likely to play the role of: “creepy doomsday cult that’s up to no good, just not the specific bad things their being immediately accused of”, and who would fall into the role of: “hapless Feds who manage to bungle their entire raid so monumentally that one wonders if a concussed gerbil could’ve done better”?Personally, I can either see it play out in one of two ways:A cult from the Taurian Concordat getting raided by FedSuns over colonizing a disputed planet and shit going pear shaped.OrCult’s a cult of a cult of Wobbie fanatics and get raided by Lyran Forces who find a way to fuck it up despite having near-infinite resources. What do you think?
>>97783441It's actually really hard to win a knife fight, most of the time the winner is whoever lost less badly. Often both parties lose because every time they attack their wrists are within knifing range and there's very little they can do to prevent that without putting their other wrist in knifing range.
>>97783503That argument depends on how big your knife is. Mine is 15"
>>97783471Getting a good stab or slice on someones wrist when they are vastly stronger than you and trained to fight without you yourself getting an equal or worse injury requires a lot of luck because all that strength also makes them a lot faster than you in general. It's not some video game where you're going to have more dex because you're built like a pile of spaghetti.
>>97783464So were conjoined twins as a side effect of low odds. But because the Inner Sphere population is a 6 trillion, the 1 in 50000 odds of Conjoined Twins would have there be 120 million and if you go with the lower 1 in 100000 odds that's still 60 million. Otherwise known as nearly the population of France (69.1 million). When numbers get large enough, large populations become inevitable even with insanely rare odds.

>>97783607Faggot fanfic doesnt count
>>97783566Incorrect. For there to be 100 per planet would need to be about 60000 inhabited planets in the Inner Sphere for the lower estimate. That's 30x the actual number of 2000. You are hitting 3000-6000 per individual world, which due to world-to-world variation can very easily hit the high tens of thousands because sufficiently large numbers just do that.

But this was in the shadow of the Ruby Ridge incident, so the ATF was so desperate for a big win that… they, well, they somehow found a way to fuck it up even worse. On oh-so-many levels. >>97785217Oh certainly, there's all that to nerf them. Doesn't stop the raw numbers often meaning:>I win initiative, it is behind all of your mechs and what few might be able to get a shot due to Rifleman or extended torso twist abilities have a really hard to hit modifier>I lose initiative, it is on the other side of the map out of range of all but your longest range guns and a hard to hit modifier on top of the range penalty.
>>97785227SOME of the Gothic aesthetic is pretty fucking neat, the Atlas, King Crab, Phoenix Hawk, and Urbanmech are legitimately good designs.>everything elseWHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK IS THAT RIFLEMAN!?
>>97785230… nah. The knights seem too much like the Swiss Guard. Devout, dedicated, loyal, but with two feet firmly planted on the ground.Wobbies are absolutely lost in the sauce.
>>97785253> WHAT THE ABSOLUTE FUCK IS THAT RIFLEMAN!?To be 100% honest, probably the most menacing Riflemen I’ve ever seen.
>>97785227I can see some pirates going for a few of the aesthetics, if instead of gold you do something like turn the crenelation-like bits into bloody spikes and the like.
>>97785267Their leader piloted a golden Regent until he got promoted to pope.
>>97785247If it expends 5 MP or more (spoiler, all WiGE must expend at least 5 MP in every turn or they land or crash), it has to make a PSR at +4 (or worse, best case scenario of a medium LAM on a bright sunny day is +4) for every hex face it wants to turn without also moving forward at least one or two hexes. Failure results can include wildly uncontrollable skidding and coming to a dead stop. An Ion Sparrow decides that being nine hexes in front of you isn't as good as being directly behind you, then it is directly behind you, facing your ass.
>>97785274That’s why some people at my LGS referred to the regent as the “pope mobile”Regardless I stand by what I said. The Knights Defensor would probably see the mechs as “equipment” and venerating them as moving chapels as something sacrilegious. Word of Blake just seems like the loons who would treat them this way.
Regent looks bad because its too skinny, exacerbated by its overly wide hips. It doesn't look its weight class.
>>97785282And that's a truly golden +4. A LAM trying to pull a partial wing style assblast by going over your head and spinning to face you could be making two PSRs in a row at +8. No, that is not a typo. Plus. Eight. Swinging wide will still result in at least one. Swinging wide enough to not incur the wrath of a turn mode spurned will result in making multiple "you dared try to turn and move in flank mode" sideslip PSRs instead, because you're not doing that in Cruise.
>>97782155>How one can, in an era of partial wing jumpers full of clantech that can dump huge amounts of damage downrange, claim an airmech LAM, that cannot pack half the firepower into its frame, is limited in weight, expends tons on transformation gear, and lacks anywhere near the flexibility, is overpowered, I do not knowBecause fuck LAMs and fuck LAMfags. Anime doesn't belong in Battletech. Get your tranime shit out of our hobby.
>>97785417Get some new material.
>>97785489No. Kill yourself.
>>97785271Yeah, but the pilot can't see shit, and the whole purpose of a Rifleman is to shoot once, overheat, and die.
>>97785509Normally, and I agree that the Rifleman normally is… well… hot garbage. But I have that one listed as a 5CS (which ComStar was using circa invasion era) so… It’s somewhat more capable than a rifleman has any right to be.
>>97781095Cool! I only started recently myselfWhat map issat?

>>97781002This man had an apocalyptic meltdown when Valk was removed from the DEMO team for being a complete fucking nightmare to the brand to the point she was getting people to send hourly emails to TOPPS demanding why they support a tranny threatening to bring a loaded firearm to a family evdnt. He threatened to quit battletech forever and was told "Fine. Quit." And then he quietly remained a battletech creator because his ego permits nothing else.
>>97785547>mech designs It's honestly baffling how many mechs are simply unusable, not suboptimal or even clumsy but flat out suicidal to use. Even in it's given role of antiaircraft it's terrible, and the setting wants you to believe that these mechs have served for centuries?
>>97785625I remember that shit lmao. The fact that there are people sho are allegedly "in" with the CGL leadership and don't act like they aren't money hungry gypsies that'd sell your mother for a porch...
>>97785417I know you think you're being funny, but take a chance on doing something genuinely or taking a real interest in something sometime. We only have so much time on this planet and I'd hate for you to look back on this and regret it.
>>97784982>it's not realThen 2/3 of the available weapons suddenly become useless. MWO is the most realistic depiction of Battletech.
>>97785731>MWO is the most realistic depiction of Battletech.Because it's the only MechWarrior game to have every single type of combat weapon, right?
>>97785639> Even in its given role of antiaircraft it's terrible, and the setting wants you to believe that these mechs have served for centuries?Much like the charger, a lot of mech designs that “served” for centuries throughout the succession wars, really didn’t serve as you would apply that term. More accurately, they were pushed to the very back of the motor pool and quietly forgotten, and only started seeing real battlefield use as reserves ran low and the great houses had to resort to “throw whatever’s left at the front and figure it out” type strategies.Basically they served because all the actually “good” mech designs got blown up already.Ironically this was what made ComStar & WoB so damn scary to fight. They still had all those actually good mechs from the star league era everyone thought were long gone.Ironically, if the Clanners hadn’t settled into the IS, and their “even more advanced than Star League era” tech wasn’t starting to disseminate into the other factions, the Jihad would’ve been an even bigger disaster for the houses.
>>97785771MWO? Still don't have Rifles, Chem Lasers, Meele, Infernos.... am I missing something?
>>97785625If it's the same thing I'm remembering, Valk wasn't the one who was getting people to send in emails it was Minis and Dumbbells doing it about Valk. All Valk did was laugh because they know exactly what the gun laws are and never planned to take one anyway.
>>97784982Ironically if you were afflicted with the same mechanical difficulties of aiming and hitting targets in MWO as in the fluff the abstracted ranges would be a lot more reasonable.Like real life accuracy was pathetic enough even in tank on tank engagements before they were able to put computers in the things that did the gunner's job for him, there's no way anyone would be hitting shit if they have to eyeball everything while their target is effectively dancing constantly.>all of your controls feel like they're submerged in molasses and the atlas is juking like shaq and you're gunning based on vibe so it really is a 50/50 whether you'll hit him with an AC/20 under 100 meters
>>97785788Beggars cannot be choosers anon. A lot of "bad" mechs served in a very serious sense because that is what mechwarriors had. Remember also that Battletech's history is not a series of BV matched 1v1s; some mechs were very effective on battlefields completely devoid of other mechs and were workhorses in that role. The inexpensive nature of the Locust and the Urbanmech saw both pushed into frontline service with tiny garrisons (and large police precincts) where HAVING the Battlemech was doing its job. The Charger too was saved from obscurity from having been built and ready at a bargain price when the DCMS needed beef for their thinned out formations. Also a lot of value judgements made by players are irrelevant to the mech's actual service in universe; and a good thing too, a lot of players are very bad at judging mechs objectively outside a very narrow competitive context.
>>97785639There's a titanic disconnect between the fluff and the crunch. The most obvious example is that no mech that carries ammo is going to exist for more than a few battles when any shot can randomly TAC ammo and the mech instantly ceases to be. Another being the mackie wouldn't be all that tough wading through entire companies of armor and infantry if a platoon of men can shred the fucking thing with their AR's alone. There's no way to completely reconcile the two, battletech the setting and battletech the game are simply not the same thing, they're merely related. Headcanon the game as a not entirely accurate in-universe wargame or something.
>>97785788>JihadI'm honestly shocked that they didn't do more damage. If anything the WOB should have had BETTER technology than the Clans, shit that would make the Society call them hax. Shit like Rotery AC10/20's, UltraLBX, UltraGuass, Multilasers (Rotery lasers, ER and P) Phased Plasma Rifles (essentially ER Plasma Rifles with no ammo) Arrow V's, and sonic electronic ball busters.
>>97785830> Also a lot of value judgements made by players are irrelevant to the mech's actual service in universe; and a good thing too, a lot of players are very bad at judging mechs objectively outside a very narrow competitive context.Yeah, I know. I was, seemingly, one of the first players at my LGS to start incorporating infantry (or even battle armor) into my battle forces and it was honestly weird to see players genuinely not know what to do about them as all the mechs they took were geared to fight other mechs.
>>97785843>TAC'sAre fucking stupid. Unless you're rocking above 10 damage weapons, AP, or tandam warheads, just somehow phasing through the fucking armor BY RANDOM CHANCE is levels of bullshit that I expect out of GW.
>>97785866>infantry I'm kind of torn on infantry. On one hand the ability to just magdump spess AK/AR/G/FAL's into a armored vehicle and cause appreciable damage is goofy as fuck, but at the same time a bunch of PBI doing Agincourt Reenactment to a Mechwarrior is really fucking cool.
>>97785872THIS. no tacs at my table. you EARN your fucking armour penetration.also, fuck insta-lawndarting. PSR's to avoid crashing must be made much harder to inflict.
>>97785417eat all the penis, Herb you faglord. LAM's are cool.
>>97785892>insta lawndartingThe mental image of a ASF pilot being such a premadonna that their precious fighter got scratched (ASF pilots are even more rare than Mechwarriors) that they have full on Russian Minecraft Kid nervous breakdown and kill themselves will never not make me laugh. >meanwhile in real life >one wing and one engine? idgaf
>>97785914On the flip side you had that F-35 that crashed because of contaminated hydraulic fluid. So real life fighters are also one malfunction from lawndarts.
>>97785884If it worked the same in universe that all you needed to defeat a mech was to magdump it with your AR-15, mechs(and all armored vehicles really) would kind of just be walking jokes pretending to be war machines. Also, longbows overwhelmingly did next to nothing to contemporary heavy armor, the french being defeated more by trying to wade through hundreds of feet of mud that could defeat their warhorses, not to mention a moderately burdened man on foot.
>>97785914don't forget the guy in his crusader?>Oh? I forgot to fold the wings down before takeoff? sorry, I didn't notice. doo dee doo, let me go round, land again, fold the wings and take off again. sorry. I'll remember to have wings next time.
>>97785933>hydraulic fluidAnon that's a critical function.
>>97785933that's not real life fighters, that's the f35 being a horribly shit fucking mega-tarded, MIC pork-barrelling, boondoggle made of fuck.they still have yet to come up with any scenario in which the cannon they made for and mounted to the f-35 would have any use case at all. at all.think about that shit. the fucking gun alone is hundreds of millions of dollars of RnD... and they have no fucking clue how it would ever be of fucking use at all.
>>97785933>So real life fighters are also one malfunction from lawndartsThey're really not most of the time, they're actually exceptional when particular models acquire a reputation for crashing often for one reason or another. Not having a high chance of nosediving into the ground because a .22 plinked off the engine cowling is pretty common across most combat aircraft since pretty much the beginning of fixed wing combat aircraft.
>>97785942>the plate armor vs longbow again Anon a knight simply couldn't be covered in full plate, but longbows would absolutely go through chainmail and helmets.
>>97785952>still spouting this garbage Retard.
>>97785963>Anon a knight simply couldn't be covered in full plateMost of them were wealthy enough to be so well covered as to be almost completely safe from killing blows or even wounding shots from longbows, many of them being protected enough that they willingly went without shields entirely. And the overwhelming majority of the french forces did reach the english line, they were just debilitated by the muddy trek and were an easy fight for the fresh english.>but longbows would absolutely go through chainmail and helmetsAny decent helmet is stopping a longbow's arrow most of the time, it's not like they arbitrarily decides all of their helmets should be made out of thin steel of inferior quality. The battle was decided up close, not by the french melee troops being cut down in swathes at range.

>>97785203>Ion Sparrow is strong, certainly. But it's got a Jump of 10. Which is better than any LAM from a tactical pov>A Phoenix Hawk LAM's Airmech mode is 15/23, Which has to include turns, prevents movement through woods, makes you roll for skids if moving at flank, forces a +3/+4 AMM, halves all damage done by physical attacks....>and a Wasp LAM's Airmech is 18/27,See above, it's not as great as all that>and that's with limited heat cost.1 heat per 3 moved. Coincidentally Improved Jumpjets generate 1 heat per 2 hexes jumped and a partial wing dissipates 3 heat just by being there, so an Ion Sparrow that jumps 10 generates 2 heat.

can we have a design challenge for the next thread?ilclan era, pick a faction, and build a list that uses as many 'classic' mechs as possible, warhammer, rifleman etc, that have ilclan era mixed or clantech versions.the winner is the one who can create the biggest force of classics (updated for the bleeding edge)ultra super duper bonus points for if they 'match' an OG design, like the whm c whatsit, that matches the 'bunny ears' warhammer with the two srm pack 'ears'.or the atlas C? which matches the OG atlas, but has rediculously improved versions of its loadout.I wish to have a force that will 'pose' as 'normal' force of era-regarded 'shit mechs'>ha, you're bringing an archer against my Hel? prepare to die, loser!only to actually be very threatening, to use as the 'bad guys' of a series of scenarios.

>>9778724920 years ago, the edition change came after only 3 or 4 years. And 3 or 4 years before that, the editon change came after only... 3 or 4 years. TW is somewhere between the fourth or sixth edition depending on how you count and has pages upon pages of meaningful rules changes (not just typo fixes) from its first printing to the most recent one. "Battletech doesn't change" is not a hard line in the sand, it's a gross simplification of the idea that we haven't had sweeping changes to the underlying structure of the game. That continues to be true, you roll the same initiative and shoot the same guns in the same phase order using the same mechs with the same record sheets, just like the literal dozens of rules changes before. Infantry got a complete overhaul and is essentially unrecognizable from previous iterations. Every single melee attack has already changed in function at least once. Streak SRM-2s used to be able to load infernos, but SRM-4s couldn't. How those infernos worked has changed entirely. C3 is currently in the flip position on its eternal flip-flop of how much it cares about line of sight. The entire Reaction Phase is MIA and has been for decades.
>>97787249There's not zero changes in 20 years, but at the same time there aren't dramatic world changing overhauls. Every sheet other than the ones marked "Illegal" for noncanonicity or other reasons from the first release under the banner of Battletech rather than Battledroids functions fundamentally the same as they did way back then, and every model from that span of time is legal to play unless again it's a deliberately noncanon one from an April Fools/particularly out there alt timeline setup. However, ther have been some erratas yo the rules to bring some things in line with other rules that do the same thing, and stuff gets moved from advanced to standard or standard to advanced, or shifting from other levels. This new edition isn't like a new edition of D&D or 40k where everything is entirely swapped around as they built from an entirely different fundamentals. No, it's just that about 1-2% at most of the rules have been adjusted with basically all of those being things you encounter less than 1% of the time, and even with that, most still exist but were made optional settings rather than standard baseline. This is touted as a big shakeup, but I'm pretty sure 40k's balance databases change more than this is doing.
>>97787913PGI has a battleteh license same as CGL, of Ral Partha is okay there is no reason PGI shouldn't be too. What's more important is that the rulebooks spell out that you don't have to use minis at all, so "official" doesn't even matter because the official rules endorse everything from bottlecaps to crystals, so prints are an equally valid choice.Bet this "core" book changes that stance to say its no longer miniature agnostic.

>>97788317What's fun about this is that true rules purists wouldn't even be playing Battletech. The very first product ever called Battletech was literally called Battletech 2nd edition and it was such a massive shakeup that it's really not compatible with the older edition. The product before that was Battledroids. You cannot play PVRE, VNCHANGED Battletech. It doesn't exist and never has. You're either playing Battledroids or you're playing something that has undergone extensive rules changes.
>>97788136Different anon but you've sold me on the sturmfeur. I love lrms and never really looked at it before because my dumb ass though why would I when lrm carriers and heavy lrm carriers exist?Because those need spotters, and a sturmfeur is heavy enough to survive slowly rumbling into the open to play the world's stupidest spotter slash bait but it keeps on theme so fuck yeah.
>>97788339> that true rules purists-I. Don’t. Care.I liked the Battletech I had, I don’t want to relearn a new rule set, I don’t want to retune all my lists. I want the “Core Rulebook” edition to go away. What part of this are you not understanding?
>>97788342No, purity is the game we've been playing for decades, changing it just to sell rules to people who already bought the fucking rules from you is a low greed.Sell us mechs we want instead of forcing us to print themSell us mechs individually instead of tdying to force us to buy 3-5 we dont want to get them, else we will just print them.We already have the fucking rules, we already gave you anywhere from $60-$300+ EACH to have those rules. There are HUNDREDS of minis we dont have an option to buy yet, make them and maybe we will buy them

>>97788378Do you make particularly heavy use of CEWS?
>>97788407Because I'm sure there's no possible other reason to want to rework some rules other than greed. No one is forcing you to by the new book, and whinging about basic business practices like selling packs instead of individuals just illustrates that you don't understand the economies of modern games production. For the majority of mechs, they likely wouldn't sell enough to justify the initial setup cost, forcing them to charge two or three times more per model. I bet you'd bitch about that, too. If you want individuals, go to ironwind. Hell, by your logic, catalyst trying to sell minis in the first place is 'low greed', given most of them already have ironwind sculpts. Because there's no possible other reason to rework something that already exists, right?
>>97788502Big changes like it being complete?Don't care about the rest, if I EVER relearn it will be final.

>>97788782Honestly, since there have been several erratas in Total Warfare over the years, you'd think that people would be glad for the new Core Rulebook because now the Total Warfare era is being set in stone rather than having yet more adjustments.
>>97788722>They'll be coming back in a later book. I know for a fact nobody in my group will bother with this new edition until those units are properly in the game because we all do at least a little combined arms (almost always at least a BA squad or two on the table). My point is that your saying this isn't a big change, but they are outright deleting the combined arms aspect from the core rulebook unless people want to use the frankly awful asset cards. Actual none-mech rules are going to be in a separate expanded splat. It's a massive change that fundamentally changes how the base game works.>But hey, the Total Warfare edition didn't even have construction rules in the first year because Techmanual came later.Actually they are in War (mechs, vees to I think), Tacops (infantry, mobile structures, support vees, aero), campaign ops (super heavies, LAM's, drone units)That's from memory and may be out of order, but all are in the game. All are in the relevant core books. Please do not try to pretend they are not.
Heya. I scanned and dropped the BT Mercs Battlefield Support Stats (the big cardboard sheet from the box) in the Dropbox.
>>97788820I think the TW errata has been mostly invisible. They do updated reprints with new covers and have errata PDFs online, but they never make any big announcements through social media that anything is being changed. A lot of people only find out that something changed when they come up against someone who learned that rule in a newer run of the book.
>>97788899Thanks for the scan Anon!
>>97773177
>>97780965>If only you knew how bad things really are
>>97788880>Actually they are in War (mechs, vees to I think), Tacops (infantry, mobile structures, support vees, aero), campaign ops (super heavies, LAM's, drone units)Yeah, now. Total Warfare is 2006. Techmanual is 2007. Tacops is 2008. The others are later. If you bought a brand new copy of Total Warfare when it was a brand new edition of the game, you wouldn't have any of those rules from later books, because those books weren't published yet. This new edition will be the same. Until then you could just keep using those units out of TW. I'm sure people kept using the BMR era rules for things that TW didn't have until the newer books came out.
>>97788970No, if they had the BMR they wouldn't have needed to buy an incomplete rule book.
>>97788919Thank you Battletech-man.
>>97788970>I'm sure people kept using the BMR era rules for things that TW didn't have until the newer books came out.As someone who did start playing in that era (Started in 2004), we were lucky to find some old copy of maxtech and compendium kicking around. Clicktech tried to kill the fuck out of Battletech during that time and most FLGS swapped over and stopped carrying Battletech at all. I had to get my 6th Edition Box, TW, TM, and TacOps from Books-a-Million of all places. We were ecstatic to get anything. Grog prices for minis then were five times what they are now? Wanted an unseen Warhammer IIC? You were running into triple digits for a single mini.
>>97788970You are either struggling with reading comprehension or purposefully misconstruing what I am saying. You are talking about unit creation rules being split between several books, each which contains the rules for that unit type. The core rules still contain the construction rules for all units present within.I am talking about a major chunk of the rules, that being everything that's not mech - vehicles, aero, infantry, battle armour, protomechs - being removed from the core rules and replaced with flat, over simplified to the point that they lose pretty much any identity, AS equivalent stat cards. It's a fundamentally massive change that guts a key portion of the rules for no good reason save CGL are desperate to push the awful asset system, something that was called out as being bad by the playtesters (of which I was one)
>>97789043>You are talking about unit creation rules being split between several books, each which contains the rules for that unit type. The core rules still contain the construction rules for all units present within.Total Warfare does not contain construction rules for anything. Those came later, in a different book, which was not printed at the same time and was not available during Total Warfare's launch.
>>97789043They say this new book replaces TW and BMM, but it's really just BMM with assets. I'm confident they will print an actual TW style book, and that's the one everyone will actually play out of. I wouldn't be surprised if they put the tacops stuff in with it. Assets do suck, and I won't be playing with them.
>>97788407>Sell us mechs we want instead of forcing us to print them>Sell us mechs individually instead of tdying to force us to buy 3-5 we dont want to get them, else we will just print them.Hello, No. Cry.Thank you for your time,-TCO
>>97789010I wish they would print a modern omnibus so we could use a couple copies to crush you to death.
>>97789089>cryYour reading comprehension sucks. This is about wether or not you want money.I have rules, so no reason to repurchase them. There are minis I don't have, I'd purchase them.Figure it out.
>>97789107One book for $80 instead of 10 books for $600?!No way, get fucked.
>>97789129I don't think books that big are that cheap. Especially not with CGL's clown printing.
>>97789085It's very much the BMM plus assets. It's BMM very 2.0.I'll hold out for TW very whatever.>>97789069I'll check my copy when I get home, but I distinctly recall them being present. Regardless, there is a massive difference between losing some construction rules and gutting 3/4 of the game rules and units.
>>97789041>ClicktechWhat's that?
>>97789163Wouldn't be that big, whole sections are reprinted in each IIRC, so cut out the bits that are duplicated and you get a book the size of the BMR
>>97789195You sweet summer child. Look up Mechwarrior: Dark Age.
>>97788899You kick ass anon.
>>97789188>but I distinctly recall them being present. And you'd be wrong.I bought TW because some chart marketed it as "if you only want one book, buy this one"Only to discover afterward that it contained no weapons, no units, no BV, nothing to actually apply the rules in it too, that like anon says, those rules were all split up between 4 or more other fucking hardcover books all the same price as TW.Total apparently doesn't mean Complete.I suspect CGL has the same language issue with Core. But while TW didn't have any Battlemechs, it did have a galaxy map showing which factions practice judaism and islam, a very helpful and needed element in the rulebook for stompy robots /s
>>97789252>Only to discover afterward that it contained no weapons, no units, no BV, nothing to actually apply the rules in it too,We had Solaris Skunkwerks for that back then, because fuck Heavy Metal Pro.
>>97789195Mechwarrior: Dark Age.The premise was honestly pretty cool, the bases where based off the heroclix ones. As you take damage you would turn the base clicking it depending on the damage you take. Your abilites and stats would change accordingly. Also the game was heavy with Combine arms warfare, they release clix of vehicles, infantry, BA and all kinds of stuff. There where some bad stuff though that are connected with the game. It went with the whole MTG Booster blind box stuff. You would buy a booster box for 15 dollars and maybe get one or two mechs and because they really wanted to go back to 'Mechs r rare' the ones you did pull where refitted agromechs or industrialmechs and that the real battlemechs/omnimechs where extremely rare to pull. Also the story was half assed, they jumped it nearly 100 years for some reason. Its the main reason the Jihad was half baked and never supported.
>>97789265>honestly pretty coolYeah a mech game without mechs, it's mond boggling that it failed.
>>97787176Idk why they did this. This particular rule about partial cover isn't even one of the more complicated ones about LOS. Maybe somebody in the demo team felt it was too easy to negate partial cover with height? I guess it makes it more consistent with the ruling of full cover not being negated by height? I suppose it makes more of the terrain useable, we'll see how it plays out. But I feel like they should have playtested it.
>>97789252It contains everything you need to play the base game with all weapons and equipment that are not experimental systems. BV was never part of the core game originally and both it and weapons are shown on the relevant record sheets fir the unit you are using. Any weapon special rules are included in the TW book for the none-experimental weapons.Again, stop trying to equate the loss of the construction rules (and I will check when home, I am sure the mech ones at least are present) to losing 5/6 of the playable units and 3/4 of the rules.
>>97789252... What are you talking about anon? You literally need nothing to play Battletech but a Total Warfare book, record sheets, tokens and dice. You used to have to buy or copy down record sheets, now you can get them off of Mekbay. Before then there were piles of them on sites online. All those fucking things you're bitching about are found on your fucking record sheets. ALL OF THEM.Why the fuck are you here trying to start arguments if you don't know how the game is even fucking played? Lurk more or get the fuck out.
>>97789286I am literally looking at it right now, there are no construction rules in TW whatsoever. None. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. All the rules in every other book from Techmanual to Campaign Ops came months or years later when those books actually got released.
>>97789265>You would buy a booster box for 15 dollars and maybe get one or two mechsThe boosters always came with 2 infantry/BA and 1 mech OR 1 tank OR 1 VTOL. Oh, and most of the mechs weren't actual battlemechs, just Mad Max construction/farm mechs with machine guns or even UNMODIFIED construction mechs because fuck you. Then, when you got an actual battlemech, usually they had redesigned it to be ugly as fuck.
>>97789286No construction rules, which means you need third party programs/sites and a printer to play with TW.
>>97789288Maybe someone wants to buy a rulebook and use it standalone instead of also needing a computer and printer to be involved?

>>97789295>>97789327Again, please tell me how this, assuming you are right, equates to losing 5/6 of the playable unit types in the core rules. Or, to put it another way somewhere between 2/3 and 3/4 of the rules.
>>97789374Then use the old BMR. Why are you whining when the thing you want already exists?
>>97789374You could, but unless you only want one mech ever you might want to make copies of the mech sheet dumbass. You are certainly welcome to copy the sheet on to lined paper; but I wouldn't count on you being willing to make even the slightest effort.
>>97789379I just told I did/do.This entire discussion is about explaining WHY this new "core" is retarded and why the old COMPLETE rules make it retarded.
>>97788773Are you projecting misplaced GW rage that they never made a Titanicus game using BTGothic as a vehicle?
>>97789377They can call it the core rulebook (awful name), but it's just BMM2. If you were playing with BMM and wanted other unit types, you'd have to go to a different book. If you're playing with BMM2 and wanted other unit types, you'd have to go to a different book. These are exactly equivalent.
