Troll thread but I kinda do wish I hadn't bothered. I just assumed the crew here would get together again but most of the old gang are 35-50 and too busy with their kids etc to regularly play. Some of the model choices are really weird to me, eg using the old Y2K goblins instead of Skull Pass era ones, not refreshing the high elf spearmen and archers, etc. Chaos Warriors has a weird lack of hero models considering it's the ultimate army for people who want a powerful Timmylord. Most of the ruleset problems could have been spotted with an open playtest. Only level 4 wizards being worth taking, infantry being speedbumps, etc.

It's ok/10I really don't like how magic works, certain armies are blatantly overpowered, I dislike the models they've been releasing, but it's gotten people to start playing WHFB again so it's not all bad. It's also gotten everyone to play one edition, which is not good because I've been trying to convince people to give 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, and even 8th a try out of simple curiosity for a couple years and almost nobody wants to because they're all playing TOW and practicing for tournaments.I'd like it if GW ran more MTOs for really old models, because those are the kinds of models I like and want to collect, but they seem to be hell-bent on making new plastic models and I'm hell-bent on not buying said new plastic models.

There is this push and pull to combats that never existed before, and as Fantasy is all about movement, it adds a new dimension to the strategy. Example a unit could be positioned to do a flank charge on a enemy you have engaged with another unit...however lets say they lost the two preceeding rounds of combat and have now been pushed towards their edge by a few inches, the arc is no longer allowing you the charge. And this is happening with every battle affecting how you place and move units all the time. I find it really stimulating. Also give ground/fallback in good order just feels more historically real. I loved 7th/8th edition but a unit losing combat basically meant combat was over, very black and white and not capturing the spirit of a mass of bodies pushing in a huge scrum of combat.
