I've finally started running UESRPG again and have a campaign brewing up, so let's have ourselves an old fashioned Elder Scrolls General - it's been almost a year since the last one!Discuss traditional games set in The Elder Scrolls setting and TES lore. Keep non-lore related vidya discussion to the minimum.>Tabletop/P&P RPGs[UESRPG - P&P RPG]https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pTgTN2aJUoY95JtquowagfUJLL7tCQYhzJKcCAcbvio/edit?usp=sharing[Scrollhammer - Tabletop Wargame]https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Scrollhammer_2nd_Edition[TES 5E Conversion]https://uestrpg.wixsite.com/homeDiscussion in #Scrollhammer (irc.thisisnotatrueending.com (port 6667))[Tabletop Sim Steam Group]https://steamcommunity.com/groups/scrollhammertgesg[TES: Call to Arms]https://www.modiphius.com/elder-scrolls.html>TES Iceberg Excel Sheet:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SE3txfpJhsXB2pjj6ShJGpaUeVC6jwUXK4kgkPeaFsU/htmlview#gid=0>Lore Resources[The Imperial Library]https://www.imperial-library.info/[/r/teslore]https://www.reddit.com/r/teslore/[UESP/Lore]https://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Main_Page[Pocket Guide to the Lore]https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AtsWXZKVqB4Q825_SwINY6z4_9NaGknXgeOknOCDuCU/edit[Elder Lore Podcast]https://www.elderlore.wordpress.com/[How to Become a Lore Buff]https://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1112211-how-to-become-a-lore-buff/>Art MEGAhttps://mega.nz/folder/UfpCCSIR#HJ_wSCMYtUBqez0mFjVo6w>Thread questionIn what province or region would you like to run a game in the most and what would the story be about? >TQVvardenfell, after the Oblivion Crisis. Characters working with one of the great houses and help rebuild, repulse invaders, kill whatever dremoras and beasts remain, and reclaim some holdings for themselves.
>>97794721It feels like every community talking about TES these days is filled with troons or other type of faggot freak these days, especially since ESO sort of took off and it makes conversation annoyingI don't even know why this place died
>>97795277After the Oblivion Crisis, but before the Red Year, I presume? Very cool period to run a game, especially if you'd also want to put some spotlight on the political desintegration of the Empire (and in case of Morrowind, the Temple). But with Morrowind, that's also a very bitter campaign to run, knowing that whatever the players manage to accomplish will just be ruined again by the Red Year - in case of Mer PC, likely during their lifetimes>>97795375>It feels like every community talking about TES these days is filled with troons or other type of faggot freak these daysI don't really participate in other TES communities, so I wouldn't know, but that honestly feels like a general state of most fandoms nowadays>ESO sort of took off and it makes conversation annoyingYeah, I hate how you can hardly discuss or research the lore anymore without having to filter out ESO content, but it was bound to happen with how long we didn't have any other major release. I wish they'd at least write some (decent) novels or something so we would have any new stuff that isn't tied to a fucking MMO>I don't even know why this place diedHaving been there back when these threads were a weekly and then monthly thing, IIRC we just somewhat ran out of lore topics that haven't been discussed to death already and sadly not many people run TES campaigns. Which is honestly somewhat puzzling to me, it's a quite popular fantasy setting and as far as homebrews go, UESRPG is very solid and professional
>>97794721I think I would just use 5e for an Elder Scrolls setting.
>>97796445Well, there's a 5E conversion in the OP, though D&D magic works quite differently to the much more ubiquitous and universally available magic of TES
>>97795375Faggots and freaks have always been part of the conversation, they're just more vocal about what they are now.
What do you think the old Reachmen pantheon looked like? We're never given any real indication within lore. I liked with Skyrim we're shown that Reachmen are just normal people for the most part, sans their fantasy IRA, but they never actually dives in to who the Reachmen. Also, I think Jehanna is probably a city of theirs that decided to throw in with the culture and politics of the rest of High Rock. It probably was one of the last Direnni holdouts.
>>97797742I think I would just give every character a level in a spellcasting class (sorcerer, wizard, warlock) and invent potions that restore spell slots. That would probably be my homebrew.
>>97794721how does uesrpg run? Are there any obvious pitfalls i should know about?Thinking of starting a campaign for my brother in elder scrolls because he is a huge oblivion and skyrim fan and i want to ease him into rpgs and not make him play 5e but i am unsure about the system
>>97798453It's very good in my opinion, although I am generally fond of d100 mechanics. If you've ever played any Warhammer RPGs the basic test resolution here is identical. It's simple, instinctive and elegant. Also there's plenty of content made for it, at least for fan project standards. The combat is bit on the crunchier side however. In 2e it was especially complex, with some mechanics that were generally pretty brilliant and made for a very deep melee combat system, but overall there was simply too much shit to track and remember in my opinion and I usually ended up simplyfing it on the fly somewhat. 3e (the newest one) streamlined it a bit, while still keeping it fairly deep. I think it's in a decent spot now, although I would still recomend reading through the combat rules at least twice and possibly asking the players to do the same, or at least explain it to them properly before the game. But I'd say it's definitely worth picking up.>pitfallsCombat can be quite deadly, so keep that in mind. The PCs will not be hacking through entire hordes of enemies on their own like in Oblivion in Skyrim for quite some time.Armour can be a major filter. If something has plenty of it and the other side doesn't have a weapon with decent penetration it can be very hard to hurt it at all. There's quite a long list of talents to choose from, so if your group is going to be creating their characters during the session (rather than in advance) it might be wise to ask everyone about their PC concepts, so that you can skim the list in advance and propose them somethingMake sure the party has a wide variety of skills covered up, it can be very hard to pass tests of stuff you're not trained inSome parts of the system are a bit math heavy, but it's the kind of stuff that won't really come up during the actual play, like calculating the xp cost of advancements or magicka cost of spells (You just do it at purchase and put it on your sheet)Nothing else I can think of now
>>97797957Their religion was almost certainly very shamanistic and given what sort of Daedra they tend to worship (Peryite, Hircine, Molag Bal, Mehrunes) their culture was probably strongly focused on the idea of circles of nature, strong overcoming the weak, new life rising from death and destruction etc. But I don't really remember much details about them now>I think Jehanna is probably a city of theirs that decided to throw in with the culture and politics of the rest of High Rock.I think that's almost certainly the case, but by the time of late third era it has probably been almost completely culturally assimilated by High Rock. At least the city itself, the countryside surrounding it probably less so
>>97794721>TQPlanning a game in Vvardenfel after the signing of the White Gold concordiat. Initial hook is the empire needing access to the ebony mines for the next war and being stymied by Redoran and the Temple who are not impressed about the whole pulling out after Red Year. After a bit of adventuring they'll also encounter resurgent Ashlanders, Argonian raiders and Thalmor trying to rebuild Akulakhan
>>97794721Does it bug anyone else how Skyrim sets up a scenario where it would make no sense for the LDB not to just take over and make a new empire? I mean the civil war as a whole is retarded once he appears since 1. Why would anyone fight whoever has someone who is effectively a demigod on their side? And 2. Why would either side not bid for him to be High King? I mean the whoever doesn’t is pretty much just outing themselves as either power hungry or puppets of the Thalmor. Ulfric is all about true Nord shit (even though he is up in arms about the outlawing of an Imperial god and doesn’t bring up the Nordic pantheon but that’s another matter all together since no one really does that) and Tulius because even if The Empire no longer has a DB emperor, Dragonborn themselves are still revered and it would be smart to have a guy who is both extremely powerful both physically and politically and that the people of Skyrim would back. I would definitely pick the LDB over the previous king’s childless widow.
>>97794721/v/ is on the other side of the street.
>>97803275>1. Why would anyone fight whoever has someone who is effectively a demigod on their side?Because, while it isn't fully lore accurate, the Last Dragonborn can be killed by enough arrows, swords to the chest, etc.Of course the LDB is a fighting force of nature, and at least ends the dragon crisis lorewise, the player can still die to a lot of shitIt's comparable with the Nerevarine, the one the players controls is just the one that manages to succeed, but that is not to say by virtue of being the Nerevarine, you are unstoppable>2. Why would either side not bid for him to be High King? The Imperial faction already put themselves behind Eilisif, just picking the LDB would seem like they are ready to drop allies just because it's convenient. That sets a poor precedence with a people all about that shit and that are already distrustful of the Empire dropping themThe LDB is not necessarily a Nord, so that might be one reason why the pro-Nord faction won't support them. But all in all, it's Bethesda of course, so at the moment we may have put in more effort than the writers themselves
>>97806482>Because, while it isn't fully lore accurate, the Last Dragonborn can be killed by enough arrows, swords to the chest, etc. And? He is not the first Dragonborn to be killed? And he has more going on than either of the other two candidates.>The Imperial faction already put themselves behind Eilisif, just picking the LDB would seem like they are ready to drop allies just because it's convenientOr just being pragmatic? Not to mention this isnt just some random dude who is slightly better, this is a Dragonborn, like how is anyone going to argue that? "Yeah sorry we can't support the demigod hero and symbol of mankind who has a history of doing amazing shit and who himself has saved the land twice and is an influential figure. We need to support this widow." >The LDB is not necessarily a NordCome on now>so that might be one reason why the pro-Nord faction won't support themI mean Talos is the Imperial aspect of Ysmir yet Ulfric is willing to die for it along with other Nords.
Curious for others' views: what makes the TES setting so good, relative to any other fantasy setting?
>>97803275The Empire is there to support their allies in Skyrim, not to take over the province. The Stormcloaks are looking to install Ulfric as High King, not just secede from the Empire. Plus, being a Dragonborn doesn't really count for all that much. The pact the Dragonborn emperors had in the past is broken.
>>97814977It's an interesting question. I generally don't like high fantasy very much, but for some reason TES does it for me. I think it's a combination of two main factors:1). On a surface level, TES mostly looks fairly generic, which provides a basis for this "comfy, familiar fantasy" feel. But once you start digging into it, it quickly turns out that it's actually chock-full of very original elements and complex ideas, so it stays interesting and rich beyond this generic facade. 2). TES wordlbuilding is genuinely pretty well though-out and very multifaceted. Outside of adventuring or epic world changing events, we also have plenty of lore of all sorts of habits, cultural beliefs and internal politics of various cultures, so that you can actually quite easily imagine how daily life in this setting looks for various social classes and in various groups - and in most cases it's actually an interesting and unique picture rather than a generic medieval peasant stuff. Regions and races have multiple cultures or ethnic groups and you can trace how those cultures evolved and influenced each other over the ages in a similar way real ones did. Matters of religion and metaphysics are abstract and vague and in many cases they don't have one objectively correct answer we know of, but every culture has their own takes on them that are also complex and vague in your typical mystical way, but also you can see some prevailing religious ideas present in some way over many cultures and how some of them got borrowed and refashioned from one culture to another, similar to real world religious history. Shit like this makes the setting feel more tangible and alive.
>>97815090>The Empire is there to support their allies in Skyrim, not to take over the provinceBut they already have control of the province since it is part of the empire and they’re trying to stop a secession. >The Stormcloaks are looking to install Ulfric as High King, not just secede from the EmpireBecause he stands for the old ways of the Nords which the LDB is like a living personification of along with all the other shit he does. >Plus, being a Dragonborn doesn't really count for all that muchIt does though, like I said even though the Septims are gone the prestige and power of Dragonborn are still known and revered by the people of Cyrodil and beyond. Even if they no longer need a Dragonborn having one around would not just be seen as something to handwave especially if said Dragonborn was leading a country and aiding you in keeping the peace or even becoming Emperor.
