How do I convince my players to stop fucking around and deliberately testing limitsIt feels like they sometimes go out of their way to do the expected. Now I usually just drop them off at the front of the dungeon and go "This is the module for tonight, take it or leave it, if you don't go in I don't have any other content prepared."
Speak with them directly about it. Try to understand why they are playing that way, and get them to understand why that isn't what you want from the game.BASIC COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
>>97797526I mean that's what I'm basically telling them at this point, but they don't seem to get it
>>97797533In the OP you said you just pouted and told them, "do this or nothing", which isn't remotely like what I suggested. Your communication skills seem to suck balls.
>>97797516>How do I talk with people?Reminder you must be at least 18 and at least 85 IQ to use this site.
>>97797516Have you tried talking to them outside of the game like a normal person?
>>97797516Wow, shitty DM, how original.
>>97797516I don’t understand what you’re complaining about?I love it when I have a party of players for my Edge of the Empire campaigns where all I have to do for session 1 is:“Here’s your character(s), here’s your ship, here’s your startup bag-o-credits, go nuts”And be completely unconcerned about them finding their own adventure. (Because it’s so much more fun to throw wrenches into the player’s plans and see how they react than the other way around)
>>97797516If you have a problem with players being creative and doing things that you didn't expect, you 100% unironically should NOT be a GM and probably shouldn't be playing RPGs at all. The whole point of RPGs is players expressing creativity, cleverness and outside-the-box thinking that would not be possible in a videogame or a boardgame.
>>97797516To build off of some other suggestions, you could tell one of them to run things instead. Not even as a 'If you don't like it do it yourself' thing. Just legitimately suggest they all take turns behind the screen running their own one shots.Maybe one of them finds out they like running games and you're off the hook. Maybe it gets them to realize what being the GM means. Either way, it's something you could pitch as a fun way to mix things up.
>>97797516I've got players who can't keep serious, the trick is to just ignore their bullshit when possible and keep the game serious on my end. Playing along is when you ruin the tone of the game for the bit.
>>97798806Sounds more like you want to do creative writing rather than play a game.RPG's are games. You are playing a game. If you don't interact with the game part then you aren't doing it right and should find a different hobby.
>>97797516Sooo you are incapable of playing on the fly? Pretty weak dog.Id rather bs through them not finding shit all night than running a pre-made dungeon that is filled with a bullshit minagery of creatures that would never live together
