What are you working on, anons? I'm chipping away at this Level 2.
HONOR THE DRAGON!
>>97797559So much. I have a battalion of /mydudes/, several companies of varying factions, and a Clan keshik, all in progress.
>>97797559I'm going through TROs playing with every single variant of every mech. It's not going well.
Steinerfag here. Just finished an Atlas! Wat do?
>>97797559Terrain for tommorow game. Also have to finish 2 mechs.
>>97797559>>97797559I am making plans to paint my minis, but first I have to make up my mind on the force makeup (and order some decals). I have 4 companies in mind + about a lance of reinforcements with CI-era tech/salvage for most of them, but I haven't quite settled on them yet, because I want them to be lore-accurate-ish and reasonably "balanced" (autism). If /btg/ cares you guys can give feedback. The goal is for each faction to be roughly playable through Succ Wars till FCCW.
>>97797559>What are you working on, anons?Protomechs.
Anyone know where I can buy this version of the Grand Titan?
Anyone have any INFANTRY?
>>97797854Yes
>>97797838I literally just bought one of these lmao
>>97797861Any pics???
I'm a willing lorelet when it comes to BattleTech and I need my impressions checked. Is the following a fair/accurate statement about BT's fictional in-universe history: Too many consequential events are crammed into too few years on the fictional timeline, and it would make more sense if the periods in between defining events were largerI'm mostly talking about 3025 and on. It seems like every few years there are existential or galaxy-reshaping threats, and this goes on for decades. Probably to keep the same characters around for the continuing soap opera. New stuff keeps happening at a breakneck pace that doesn't realistically depict the slow speed of planning, diplomacy, conquest, logistics, supply chains, retrenchment, etc.Real or retarded criticism?
>>97797923That's like saying it's unrealistic for Europe to have all those wars involving Napoleon.
>>97797889Originally I was planning to use them as a clan space marines but I decided to stick to meks, BA and some areo in my clan forces and use full combined arms in my Wobbies. But I'm not sure these could pass as Manei Domini cyborgs, and I dont know why WOB have access to clan foot point. So maybe I leave them in clan and look for better models for WOB.Feel free to call me names.
>>97797923Yes. The timeline is fuuuuucked. Clans have been a part of the Inner Sphere for less than 150 years yet look at everything they've done. RotS existed less than a century, yet look at how much shit is crammed into it. Yet the Star League existed for 250+ years and had only 2 main events happen in the form of the Reunification Wars and Civil War. Timeline is a mess lol
>>97797929It is.
>>97797929I wasn't aware those war required travel across interstellar voids?
>>97797939I went through both MUL and Mekbay and WOB don't have access to Clan infantry. Your infantry look like they could be used for Tornado PA though
>>97797955Interstellar voids that take approximately one week per 30 light years with empires whose capitals are approximately a month or less of travel time from the borders. Napoleon spent about 5 months moving all his troops to the Russian border and then got to Moscow about 3 months after that.
>>97797961Here.>wob>conventional infantry
>>97797978Now click on it and check the Factions tab
>>97797955Yeah, no one has ever moved troops across gaping voids before.
>>97797989I selected faction tab. It wont show you unit that isnt available otherwise.
>>97797991>CROSSEN DAH OCEAN IS JUST DAS HARD AS CROSSEN DAH SPACE!Ok>>97797972It takes far longer than that when one factors in moving to and from worlds, gathering the resources required to arm and move troops, repairing any ships damaged during travel, finding crews and so on. (You) are an idiot. The Battletech timeline is a complete fucking mess but that's fine. (You)'re allowed to criticise things (You) like, anon.
>>97798000That particular Clan Infantry Point was included on the IS General instead of the IS Clan general because the MUL guys are retarded. WOB does not actually have access to it.
>>97798006>moving to and from worldSimultaneous with jump charging in most systems.>gathering the resources required to arm and move troops,Empires are really good at that.>repairing any ships damaged during travelThis isn't 40k, there aren't demons tearing at the hull every time you jump. Preventative maintenance of ships is a normal task that individual private owners can cover while still constantly moving to make profits.>finding crews and so on.This isn't 40k, your crew isn't constantly being churned by letting warp demons in when you jump. Empires are good at finding people for jobs. The 4th Succession War wasn't apocalyptic. The clan invasion literal decades later got everyone mobilized but wasn't apocalyptic. The fedcom civil war was only apocalyptic for two out of seven major factions and was only "a war" for everyone else, and came years after the last one. The Jihad was years after the last one. You're a retard.
>>97798018It seem like a mistake. Well, they gonna work as cyborgs than.
>>97798027>This isn't 40k>This isn't 40kRent free! Rent Free! Rent Free!
>>97798038Stop acting like maintaining ships is some monumental task that no one can do then. Or that veterans of one war can't come back for the next one. Or that empires need centuries to cool down when every single one in real life has fought multiple wars per decade, often across oceans that take months to traverse.
>>97798027>Simultaneous with jump charging in most systems.Nta but it actually takes a very long time to move to a world after jumping to a system, days at least. So it does not, as you said. take only a week to move from area to area, at least not in any meaningful way.>>97798027>Empires are really good at that.Have you ever read Battletech lore? They're rarely good at anything, anon.
>>97798047>40k!>No one mentioned 40k>STOP ACTING LIKE->I'm not acting like anything? >REEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
>>97798051>Nta but it actually takes a very long time to move to a world after jumping to a system, days at leastSimultaneous with the week of charging in most systems. Is 3 (down)+3 (up) significantly longer than 7 (charge)? Do you need to go down to the planet and back up in every single system when you're just traveling through? Can you not call ahead on the route you planned weeks ago so any required supplies can be scheduled to be at the jump point before you have to leave it?
>>97798006>It takes far longer than that when one factors in moving to and from worlds, gathering the resources required to arm and move troops, repairing any ships damaged during travel, finding crews and so on.>(You) are an idiot. The Battletech timeline is a complete fucking mess but that's fine. (You)'re allowed to criticise things (You) like, anon.LOLLmaoWhat a idiot
>>97797923Worry not about the timeline. It's the least of BT's problems when it comes to lore. Just enjoy it for what it is, bruv. 'tis easier that way.
>>97798038>>97798062Hit dogs holler. There are no warp demons. Jump ships do not require weeks of maintenance after every jump.
>>97798069Wonderful rebuttal, (You) really proved me wrong :) (You)'re such a smart little boy, anon. Or are (You) trying to say (You)'re too emotionally stunned and childish to be able to criticise something (You) enjoy?
>>97798081>Wonderful rebuttal,Well what else you were expecting with retarded take?
>>97798077>There are no warp demons.Rent free! Rent Free! Rent Free! What did 40k do to you to live so permantly in your mind that when someone mentions ships being damaged via travel through space (which happens even in real life) and needing repair that you SCREAM about 40k?
>>97798092>What did 40k do to you to live so permantly in your mind that when someone mentions ships being damaged via travel through space (which happens even in real life) and needing repair that you SCREAM about 40k?Not that anon but I would guess amount of 40k refugees.
>>97798086I notice you did not say no. Interesting. So (You) are trying to say (You)'re too emotionally stunned and childish to be able to criticise something (You) enjoy?
>>97798092Hit. Dogs. Holler.
>>97798106I accept your concession, ya little 40k-PTSD ridden freak :)
>>97798092If BT ships needed that much maintenance, none of the factions would exist because their founders ancestors would have died waiting for their second jump on their way out from Terra.
>>97798103Projecting much?
>>97798113I dunno man, I'm looking at a few official explanations of space travel, and the "wait for several months of maintenance to happen on the spot after every jump" isn't there in any of them?
>>97798113ain't it time to take your hormone meds?
Instead of worrying about hormone imbalance of the posters and whonis exacly more retarded [s]both of you[/s]Post some wips.
And for my next mechs, Metal Pirates (there will be rust)
>>97798251
>>97797923Timeline= Worst of BT. Ignore.
>>97797923Correct, even with handwaved FTL travel/communications.
>>97798249I'm working on some night camo
>>97797923Buddy at least it isn't all crammed into a one year war.
>>97798249WoB mech, trying to work on the fade from black to red on the legs of my 52nd.
>>97798341Night like in night sky kind od thing?>>97798363Whole mech red than legs?
>>97798384The top of the mech is red then the red is supposed to fade into the black of the legs but it's hard to do without an airbrush. I'm trying lol
>>97798363>>97798450I get the feeling that fade would look fine on the tabletop.
>>97798363anon >>97798461is right, just edge highlight what you have there and it's good.
>>97798363A black contrast/speed paint over a bright red may help achieve the look you desire.
>>97798363Main issue is you're trying to lay red over black, when good vibrant red should go over white. That's why things are so thick and blotchy. The best way to do the 52nd is white primer, base coat in red, then airbrush the fade with black.
>>97798540If I was going to airbush, I would have. Obviously. I am not. I'm not buying an airbrush for a few models.
>>97798548I was in your position once, and being able to mix up whatever the fuck you want for a clean basecoat is invaluable. I use an Iwata Eclipse with some mods, but you can still get a decent badger for like $35. Then, you can hook it up to literally anything with a regulator. It makes life so much easier, and the clear coats save you so much fucking money without having to buy cans of dullcote. That said, basic advice still applies. Start with the red, then build the black fade. You're doing it backwards.
>>97797854
>>97798565>Start with the red, then build the black fade. You're doing it backwards. No I'm not? I primed white, did the red, painted the black on, then used very light drybrushing of red onto legs to fade in with the black. I look alright but could be better. I'm still working it out, I need a different shade of red for the drybrushing I think.
>>97798363Green windows always look good. I've seen some people do yellow/gold windows. Not a fan of those :(
>>97798579Why is your red so dark, then? You accidentally make a really dark wash?
>>97798590nta but his red isn't dark? The red's quite bright actually. I would actually say the red is TOO bright for the 52nd SD based on the art.
>>97798595>TOO bright for the 52nd SD based on the art.Nah bro. Look at the cover of Wolf and Blake.
>>97798599Berith had a unique colour scheme on his mech as leader of the Opacus Venatori, he did not wear standard 52nd colours.
>>97798609Fair enough. I guess Camospecs would be the arbiter, here.
>>97798574>night operations>mobilized using a Dreadnought MK II
>>97798595Aye it is a bit too bright imo
>>97798609>Less than 3 minutes between post and correction Fucking God BLESS autism.

>>97798704White paint on toothbrush, point toothbrush at mechs and stroke bristles with your finger, instant natural star pattern.Manually add a small number of blue/red/yellow dots in with them.
>>97798748I actually have a different group with a star pattern, although I did it by hand. Like everything, it looks much better from table distance.
>>97798757It just looks polka dot, the bristle splatter method is the only way to get a good star field
>>97796817>If you could retcon Dark Age, where would you steer the lore? What happens in Alt Battletech by anon?Start by moving the Jihad back 15-20 years. It's a quiet period of time where people try to make the 2nd Star League work even as its weak basis and the issues crop up from having immediately had a major civil war in it have it begin to crumble, old characters slowly start to die off as they reach old age or in battle.Jihad breaks out after the collapse of the Second Star League. Goes about like it did in canon, just with a larger buildup time for all the reasons and there's less "always existed" for the Word of Blake and more they were building up. Black Box use spikes massively above what it was already at when people start assaulting the Word of Blake directly.During the final days of the Jihad, elements of the Word of Blake that want to burn it all is confirmed to send a pulse through the HPG network to shut it down and hold it hostage, planning on threatening to bring it all down. However, this shit goes horrifically wrong, because the Black Boxes were throwing up a bunch of interference and all comms get completely fucked for years. This only lasts 5-10 years (unlike the Dark Ages), shorter the further out you are. However, in this period of shit comms, a lot of states take their shot and break off from the Great Houses as the Inner Sphere Balkanizes. Things slowly reconsolidate over this Balkanization period, but each former Great House is split into 2-4 nations and the Clans drift throughout the Inner Sphere doing their own Rassalhauge equivalents rather than all staying in the Occupation Zones.Newest Era would go to border clashes like the 3rd Succession Wars as everyone is consolidating what they have. Stage is being set for the next era with general rumblings of the various Great Houses wanting to get all their land back, various independent powers wanting to keep their independence. Maybe Clans start thinking "3rd Star League?"
>>97798842Eyeballing:>Second Star League (3068-3088)>Jihad (3089-3105)>Second Outer Reaches Rebellion (3105-3183)>Cold War (3184-)

How would a two seater mech even work?
>>97799453Tripod mechs have one pilot and one gunner, with either being able to kick in a solo mode if the other blacks out.
>>97799458One running the lower body, the other the upper body?
>>97799395Wow, that's pretty impressive then.I'd do a bit more streaking and almost wash-like treatment to the parts that have no rust to them though
>>97799453One controlling the running, the other controlling the gunning.
>>97799469Not quite as clear a distinction but you can simplify it to that. There are in-game advantages too. A pilot who's not busy firing gets a -1 to pilot skill rolls to avoid falling, while a gunner who's not busy piloting gets the ability to split fire at up to three targets without penalty. See Interstellar Ops: Alternate Eras for the tripod rules.
>>97799469One pilot, one gunner. Dual cockpits on regular mechs have been depreciated for a while and they usually put command consoles instead, so you have one normal pilot and a communication/command guy who is qualified to pilot the mech but focuses on commanding the battlefield instead unless the normal pilot is taken out.
>>97799458Was sketching up more variants for a Bushwacker II that is a mobile command unit with the commander running a tacmap and the turret on the top of the rear torso. Yes I do turn these into custom minis with a 3D printer.
>>97799136>Protomech pilot pussy got me acting unwise.
>>97799516That's what a Command Console is for. It adds a separate commander's seat.
>>97799479Its just craft paint stippled in layers brown/orange yellow, no trick to it.
>>97799722Placement of the rust could have been better, but I'm happy enough, just need to pick out the missile tubes on whitworth and do the bases
>>97798006>It takes far longer than that when one factors in moving to and from worldsOnly adds maybe 2-4 days to travel from planet to jump point, shorting if they move from a pirate point to planet.>gathering the resources required to arm and move troopsYeah and? This is always going to be a thing.>repairing any ships damaged during travelDuring the week between charges most damage is minor and can be handled during the time and thats probably any damage taken during travel time from planet to jump point.>finding crews and so onSee my response for gathering resources which falls under the same category.I'm gonna be honest i think the only idiot around here is you.
>>97799605Was going more for an alternative to APCs or Armored trucks for transporting VIPs in combat zones. Requiring the disabling of a relatively small battlemech instead of the usual convoy ambush. I do know that lance leaders do order commands from their pilot seats but its not the same as literally having a cramped mobile field base for guerilla operations riding shotgun behind the pilot. Its just frustrating how the bushwacker just didn't get any revisions while every shitter mech and their fanfics got some kind of II and IIC version.
>>97799809Have you considered the collapsible command module?

Just got my first models. Do you paint them however the hell you want, or are there some lore conventions I should follow??
>>97800031However you like. Mercenaries exist in setting and use any color that strikes the CO's fancy. There's canon schemes if you care but no obligation to care. Also. I don't have to buy minis anymore.
>>97799909>>97799919That's like a mech fanny pack that unfolds into a tent, which a squad riding in a separate transport vehicle then occupies. It's absolutely not what he wants.
>>97799975Speaking of 40k should we start painting mechs as the Steel Legion? I was thinking of doing it as a shitpost but I legit think think the paint scheme with the tans and khaki would churn out something decent.
>>97800054Wouldn't that just be the Regulan Hussars? Also, no. Your idea is dumb and cringe.
>>97800054This is battletech there's a dozen forces that use that scheme and most forces apply relevant camo when on campaign.
>>97800031Lore conventions are unnecessary. There's plenty of lore and canon schemes if you do wish the sperg out though.

I liked the dark age and wish we had a modern mechwarrior game that takes place after the clan invasions. If I wanted human mechs with very little iteration between them I'd go watch anime. Really wish they'd learned from the whole harmony gold debacle and just hard leaned into more clan-esque designs as the timeline moved forward. It really sets battletech apart.
>>97800334Only if you're a pansy limpwrist.
>>97800447I like the Dark Age too! There's dozen of us. DOZENS!
>>97800447>I liked the dark age and wish we had a modern mechwarrior game that takes place after the clan invasions. It's probably not what you want, but MW5 is getting a post-Tukayyid DLC following ComStar's betrayal and assassination of Melissa Steiner, as well as the death of Joshua Marik.
>>97800465wait what?! Might we one day get a new game involving the Word of Blake?! Surely not?!

>>97800489Damn, how old Mason will be by then
>>97800727Given the Jihad ended in approximately 3081, Mason would be 87 years old if we go all the way to there. Mason was born in 2996. The upcoming DLC extends the timeline to 3058 where Shadow of Kerensky extended it to 3057, at which point Mason is just into his 60s.
I'm smoking that Tukayyid grown Blakist evil pack. They watered this with the 'Mech coolant from thirty-six Smoke Jaguar OmniMechs. One puff of this green will beat back the Clans for fifteen years. Inner Sphere ClanBuster ComStar pack, Mechwarrior - whatchu know about it?
>>97800770Considering the scale of the Jihad, his age by then, and a lot of merc companies disbanding at that time, the Jihad would be a perfect way to cap off his story via retirement or death.
>>97800886In fairness, yes, it would. On the other hand, Mason has proven himself to be such a fucking big dick bastard borderline Natasha equivalent, able to humiliate both the Inner Sphere's and the Clans' best in-gameplay. >>97797923Battletech actually regularly has a problem of too little happening in too much time. Each of the five successor states still exists and have existed in roughly the same geographical state for over half a millennia, seeing next to no governmental or societal reforms in that time, each being ruled by the same noble family almost continuously for the 800+ years they have all existed. Most of the periphery states having similar histories to that.Star league tech has been the peak of inner sphere technology for about 500 years, with some other examples of introtech being brought up to par with it about 400 years later, and there's been a ton of research and development done but no clear improvements made.Similarly, most of the basic and still most efficient clantech was invented about 300 years ago in a development program that lasted a few decades and proves creating and standardizing clantech from star league tech is a trivial effort, that implying the star league should have invented and standardized clantech during their 250 year reign anyway. And the clans have not managed to make anything unarguably better since, the successor states still being incapable of setting up proper mass production of clantech in the century since the clan invasion and relying mostly on buying their examples from clan sea fox or just using inferior 500+ year old star league tech or even older introtech.
Grabbed it on ebay for real cheap. We'll see what it's like. Very curious about experiencing this piece of Battletech's history.
>>97800770Wait, he was 19 when the game started?I'm more concerned of how old Ryana will be
>>97801037ATM and iATM though
>>97797923 The 31st century is equivalent to the 20th century: a never ending stream of massive events all crammed together. I’d say the coherence only buckles starting with the Jihad and really breaks with the Republic of the Sphere.Anything pre-Republic though can easily be fixed. It’s really on the Dark Ages and ilClan that are truly fucked.
Finished? I'm not totally happy with the rust, not sure if it's too much or if it's the placement of the splotches.
>>97801114Too hot, heavy and bulky to be a clear replacement for SRMs or LRMs.
>>97801082It is rumored that Jordan Weissman viciously masturbated over every box while chanting about how this was the next greatest thing since sliced bread.

>>97801082Enjoy. It is quite fun. It's similar to Alpha Strike but imo more fun.
>>97797889mid pic but yeah
>>97801037>relying mostly on buying their examples from clan sea fox Can't have the sphereroids making their own, now.
>>97801165Yeah, I should have left it at just the feet for that heavy and uniform I think.
>>97801208I've been writing down what clan-spec components are made locally by IS powers. Only the ones with a factory written down next to them are confirmed but the others I'm pretty confident on. Hopefully this list expands, the techbase really has to move on. Wish we got new engines too.
>>97801338>the techbase really has to move onNo. No it doesn't. I don't even think I need to qualify this with an explanation.
>>97801338If you're bored go play a different game

>>97801338Gotta wait for the Anime AU for proper tech advancement.Ironically enough.

>>97801154Is it meant to be the result of some kind of acid weapon? It looks worse than what I've seen on any old shooting range target wreck.
>>97801375I'm going with "SLDF cache seismically damaged, partially flooded, mechs being dripped on in those spots for centuries while ankle deep in water"I patterned the rust on a bit of iron from a hundred year old harvester out in one of the fields here.
Just wanted the thoughts on my paint job for Aces from the elegan/tg/entlemen.
>>97801362Ty senpai I had not looked at the drac side yet.

>>97801365>Gotta wait for the Anime AU for proper tech advancement. But will it have GIANT WOMEN?!
>>97801397Does standard armor and structure even rust?
>>97800465Im just happy to get a bushwacker and not be trolled by a pathetic low weapon tonnage like in MW4 mercs. Its a medium mech. I actually enjoyed being rewarded for building into whatever playstyle I wanted in MW5 mercs. >>97800691>The Gauntlet does exist? That's a huge problem. The tabletop game has a ton of "obscure" mechs and good designs that are never covered in the video games outside of the rare anomaly like mektek. Doesn't help that PGI was obsessed with the stupidly limiting everything to the "succession wars" era that didn't even have clan mechs for the greater part of the last 15 years. I cannot stand seeing most IS mechs because of it limiting the imagination. We should have had a dark age/Ilclan era for the video games by now. Im all for the mark 4 mad cat and ilclan mechs if they dont even want to touch on the dark age cause of legal rights or whatever. >>97800463I know the story never was the main priority and slugfests between big robots is where its at, but really would have appreciated stuff like "necromo nightmare" and other dark age adventures being given standalone games. A game where you have to survive a zombie apocalypse with your battlemech and evacuate the planet while managing resources would be interesting. Especially the part with the automated and zombie battlemechs you have to deal with.
>>97801494kek
>>97801596>We should have had a dark age/Ilclan era for the video games by nowThey set the video games in the eras and environments most people actually like. HBSBT set it in late SW but also centered it around some OC periphery state ruled by a pathetic girlfailure noble and even that's still highly controversial in the 8 years since.Jihad's the closest you'll ever get and that's only a maybe right now.
