undead themed versatile heritages besides dhampir obviously
>>
>>97802804
Full disclosure I pretty much only started having an interest in pathfinder when I saw the necromancer class playtest. So maybe unsurprisingly I’ll focus on that.

It could usw a few more fests at every level, and the grim fascinations need a massive rebalance because they’re not balanced fucking at all. Diehard and toughness are not equivalent.

If they want it to actually be able to melee, bind heroic spirit needs to come way fucking earlier and there needs to be a grim fascination that lets the necromancer attack instead of a thrall when you cast create thrall

The occult list needs way more necromancy spells, at the moment it’s kind of awful.

That aside, fuck Pharasma, all my homies hate Pharasma.
>>
Right now I'm playing a 2e game as a Summoner and I'm starting to realize that my Eidolon is only really acting as a cheap trick to get four actions a turn as opposed to three.
>>
I want to offer a small rewrite to Living Vessel Dedication to my GM so my psychic who has it due to backstory doesn't have to deal with dogshit feats. Anyone have any suggestions?
>>
is ironblood stance supernatural stuff or something? you gain resistance to all damage (including void), this is beyond just "grit your teeth and tense your muscles"
>>
>TQ
I haven't but I always wanted to. I usually play a fairly standard archer as my group tends to do very jokey campaigns. I do think playing a necromancer with grand ambition would be very fun though.
>>
Question for the optimizers: Thaumaturge with the sword implement and shield implement, is this a good idea, or am I setting myself up for disappointment? My initial thought was buckler for the shield, but I’m not sure that’s the best choice for this.
>>
I convinced a handful of friends to try something different than dnd5e, I am going to run a homebrew campaign from level 1 to 5. Anyone have any fun magic items I should include?
>>97803753
I would talk to the GM, eidolons were mostly for roleplay in my eyes anyway
>>
Hey guys, Pathfinder newb here. I've been invited to my first Pathfinder 2e game, my problem is that of the guys I'm playing with three out of four of them are power-gamers and the last two campaigns I've been in with them my characters have felt a little useless. Any tips, tricks, or builds you guys recommend?
>>
>>97803946
It's not even bad feats, but how few of them is, and half of them is useless on a squishy ranged character.
You'll certainly want the GM to give you a feat on 8th level that's appropriate to your entity instead of using one of the three default ones.
Maybe you can convince him to replace unarmed attack bonus with a die size increase (d4->d6->d8) to your spells when you unleash your psyche, that'd be flavourful.
>>
>>97805107
When you Unleash and when the entity comes out, of course.
>>
>>97803699
Them choosing the Occult list over Divine or their own specialized list was an interesting decision, I'll give them that. It is highly likely they will just import spells anyway.

>>97804961
I wouldn't advise it. Both take up your Reaction and while you can just get away with the more passive effects of a shield or weapon, it is better to have a selection between an offensive, passive, and reactive implement.

>>97805060
You probably you weren't going to do this being a beginner, but try to avoid playing
>non-support Caster classes
>Alchemist
>Magus
>Inventor
Each of these have some particular issues or more effort to get out of and can easily end up making you feel useless if you don't play right. If you want some easy pilot class options that can add a lot to the average team comp, you can try
>Bard
>Barbarian
>Cleric
>Champion
>Guardian
>Rogue
>Kineticist
>>
>>97805060
The good news that the power level difference between silly and optimised is not the chasm it was in 1e. If you remember to set your key attribute to +4 (18) and learn your class features, you'll be good.
I recommend picking up a martial character, early level casters aren't fun, doubly so if you don't know what you're doing and prepare "wrong" spells.
The other anon's right about which classes are bad and good for newcomers.
>>
>>97805356
That’s a good point. What implements would you suggest pairing with a weapon implement? Chalice, maybe?
>>
>>97805461
I find Tome to be best one. Not only the Recall Knowledge and Skill Trainings to be ridiculous, being able to preload an attack/crit Investigator-style means you can get a lot out of Weapon's interrupts.
>>
>>97805461
I was a long time Weapon -> Regalia -> Mirror enjoyer, but lately I've been more into Tome -> Regalia -> Weapon
The best parts about weapon are that you don't need unarmed/hand hijinks to hit and that you get Reactive Strike, while the rest is just so-so.
Later on you can get a craft/potion (elixir?) for the extra hand if you want all implements online 24/7. Bucklers are also nice since they leave your hand free.

IMO the necromancer class should not exist. Just play wizard. PF2e suffers from a lot of system bloat like this
>>
>>97805513
Tentacle potion? Or something else?
>>
>>97805531
I would argue against that. Even before when there was a Necromancy school Wizards had access to, a Wizard that is a Necromancer and a full-fledged Necromancer are just 2 entirely different deals. Wizards don't have direct access to Harm, they don't have any real feats that boost undead summons (or much summon boosts at all), even in an unbalanced 2e where summon spells are broken they still have better options to slot in their prepared slots, and just isn't a good source of role compression. The Necromancy school didn't even made their granted spell ANIMATE DEAD, but GRIM TENDRILS.

If Pathfinder, 1e or 2e, is good at anything, it is providing a class fantasy to a specialization. You may not NEED a Magus class to exist, but they can add a hell of lot more to it and add far more to the metagame than it would just being a Prestige Class or Archetype. They could have made "Neutral Champion" options, but Guardians have a lot more to them and you don't have to worry about any form of divine assistance. While it is Paizo's responsibility to argue for the existence of their class picks, and they DO fail a number of times (Arcanist, Vigilante, 1e Slayer, 2e Slayer, Exemplar, whatever the fuck Daredevil wants to be), they usually are a hit and justify why the class should exist and not just be a vestigial part of another.
>>
>>97805531
Mechanically I think Necromancer absolutely has a place in the system, and that place is "placing funny little totems on the map and making them do things is cool as shit", which needs a lot of refinement even if it's scuffed to fuck. I also think narrative-wise it's dumb as fuck they restricted that playstyle to "Necromancer", but I also am not a huge necromancy-as-player-tool fan so I have immense bias.
>>
>>97805607
That I can agree with. I'm also not a fan with NECROMANCER holding totem mechanics hostage, but I also think that's the healthiest thing you can do with the idea. You live with one summon spammer in a campaign and they drain 99% of your tolerance for the playstyle.
I think Runesmith should have had that totem idea too at least, flinging giant Power Word: Kill on a battlefield is funny and would give them some much needed character.
>>
>>97805356
>>97805432
Thank you for the suggestions! I really appreciate the help!
>>
>>97805621
Runesmith is so weird because I was far more excited for it when the playtest first dropped, but mechanically I think Necromancer stuck far more thoroughly in my brain. I do not know what Runesmith exists to actually be or do? The only thing I remember it having going for it was having really overtuned burst damage that was easily saved against due to how everything it does targets Fort (I think?), and most monsters tend to have have good fort saves. All its other options were just kind of... Fuck I don't even remember what else it can do.
>>
>>97805693
I see Runesmith in the same class as Alchemist, a non-caster longterm buffing class. Being able to apply additional runes to your allies IS a valuable prospect, and the rune knight fantasy is a fairly popular one. But, outside of their goofy combos, I am also unsure what they are supposed to do when combat actually begins. I do hope that make sure they don't leave the Magic Item Creation end of their half of the Artificer kit they and Alchemist are taking, cause I do want some actually tangible items. The SMITH part of Runesmith.

They are a weird class in general and really do have to live up to the expectations.

It's both mechanically nonmagical and described as explicitly nonmagical (Ironblood Surge's description reads: "you steel yourself, preparing to resist oncoming attacks and using your muscles to absorb the impact"). Is that description a bunch of nonsense that doesn't explain how you avoid getting soul-sucked by a vampire? Sure, but there's plenty of stuff in Pathfinder that's treated as mundane but would be obviously supernatural if you saw it in real life (e.g. running on water is a skill feat).

Your kung fu is literally just so strong that you're tougher than everybody else, against everything. Pic related.
>>
>>97805851
I think part of the problem is that I know I read the class, but the fact that not a single one of their support options is sticking in my head feels almost damning-I read that thing over multiple times and I cannot remember a single impactful, memorable effect from them. That's probably just on my shitty memory, but it's the only class where I think I struggle to remember anything from its playtest.

What general feat should I take as a variant human justice champion at level 3 I have Fleet from Versatile human. Going to get Toughness from the Strength of Thousands campaign naturally, and I grabbed Bon Mot and have Quick Jump from my background.
>>
>>97808241
The "always good in every build" options are Toughness, Fleet, and Incredible Initiative in any order you want, then Canny Acumen by level 17 to increase your weakest saving throw proficiency to Master (for you that'll be Reflex). After that it's skill feats. If your plan is to max Athletics and fill out the jumping chain, you'll eventually want Assurance (Athletics) and Cloud Jump, and to squeeze in Powerful Leap if you can. Jumping is most useful if you can figure out a way to not fall on your ass after a high jump, but even if you can only really manage horizontal leaps, being able to avoid difficult terrain on command is a nice thing to have, and you're probably maxing Athletics anyway in order to handle being Swallowed Whole.

If you're going further into Diplomacy, Glad-Hand enables the Make an Impression action without needing to have a whole conversation with somebody, and Shameless Request lets you actually Make Requests without pissing people off randomly, both of which are must-takes for those actions. Also Hobnobber's good if you're Gathering Information a lot, which you are, since you're playing Strength of Thousands.

Those are what I'd be looking at going forward based just on what's in your post. To answer the immediate "what do I take at level 3" question I'd probably pick Toughness. The way Strength of Thousands' branches work, if you already have the skill your branch grants you, you just get to pick another one, and Toughness is the kind of feat I want right away. Might as well grab it early and pick another level-1 general feat whenever you get around to leveling up your branch. Incredible Initiative wouldn't be a bad pick either though.
>>
>>97808241
Robust Health is always a safe bet if your party has pc/s with Battle Medicine. Being able to turn BM into a once an hour instead of once a day can save your bacon. Plus the extra healing equal to your lvl on BM and Treat Wounds is nice. If no one in your party is taking BM, Incredible Initiative is also good. I haven't played SoT so I'm unsure what lvl you gain Toughness naturally. Depending on how far in the future that is, grabbing Toughness and just retraining out of it once you get it also works. As a human, I'm going to guess you are taking Clever Improviser at 5 so Untrained Improvisation can wait.
>>
I haven't played PF2 much, but played PF1 for a while. Some of my favourite parts of other TTRPGs are their noncombat gameplay. What is the PF2 noncombat gameplay like? What does it have that's uncommon? What is 2ell detailed? Thanks.

Jaethal from the Owlcat game and Jaethal from the re-release of Kingmaker 2e are so different.
Was paizo just too pussy of following through with evil companions?

>the company that removed slavery, rape, etc and might as well start saying unalive in their modules being too pussy
no? really?
>>
>>97808973
The video game companions are barely in the adventure though, (obviously due to the fact that you should have your own party made of PCs at the table as opposed to the single player video game) so why bother sanitizing it. Just make her an evil arrogant bitch they you can choose not to influence during the opening feast. Hell, you can influence Tartuccio, even though he's scripted to betray you.

Taking the opportunity, but any tips regarding Armor Inventor? I think I might have bricked my charactet early on by going for Dex, instead of STR with the power armor, I can get up to 23 AC at level 3, and with the Speed Boosters I can easily flank stuff.
Been using a Weapon Siphon to ramp up the damage in harder encounters, since I am easily getting tons of bombs in downtimes. Picked the prototype companion at lv 1 because everything else seemed lackluster, and having another body that can flank, trip and grapple is good.
Been conflicted into picking Megaton Strike or Advanced Companion at lv 4, getting a free action to move my goon would help a lot with the action economy, and the additional stats would make his grapples more consistent, could also work as a reposition bot.
Megaton is a power strike that can job to unstanble action
>>
>>97805693
Runesmiths also job hard to trained fighters with opportunity attacks, since he's a melee with manipulate

>>
>>97809355
That's Valerie, not Jaethal ya dunce
>No scarring
If you knew her, you would notice that this would actually be worse for her, she was pretty on board with the scar a bit after it healed, it meant she wouldn't be worshipped as a beauty icon anymore.
Without it, she would need to overcome it from other ways.
Dunno how you could introduce her arc proper into the TTRPG, same with goobers like Tristan or Nok-Nok which basically requires them to he around the group 24/7, and no AP does that because it's a chore for most GMs (I do like giving the party permament or semi-permanent NPC party members, wonder what is the overall consensus with this).
Non ironically, the companions to our group, been basically our boning targets. One player wants to fuck Jaethal, other wants to do Linzi, a former PC of ours wanted to shag Valerie and I want to cum in Amiri abs, Kingmaker be blessed
>>
>>97809432
That didn't explain a thing though. My question would be if they made her marketable to the romance crowd or if they kept the "bad" aspects that people often complained
>>
>>97809457
NTA but imo that depends on how fruity your GM is feeling, my fighter was head over heels for Amiri 5m in before I said a single word and won't stop calling Valerie bowl-cut :(
>>
>>97809475
Lmao, poor girl. Valerie hairdo looks kinda alright in the Paizo version of her portrait, I non ironically think the girls look better with Paizo art, even though they are way more pozzed nowadays.
Volodomyra was also a cutie, shame she is a total baddie that can insta-kill most lv 1 goobers.

Not really. Most feats akin to such are focused on the reverse, doing a strike to provoke a combat maneuver like Slam Down. Not the other way around. Closest you would get is a fairly liberal interpretation of Opportune Backstab.

last sunday I DMd my first game in almost 7 years, and man if felt good to be back behind the screen again. Right now I'm running Trouble in Otari (with some homebrew adjustments) and after that I'll run some homebrew stuff
party composition is
>tiefling warlock
>human barbarian, giant instinct
>human paladin of Sarenrae
>leshy druid, wildshape
paladin and druid are playing a RPG for the first time, warlock and barbarian are d&d5 players they actually thought we were playing that before I said I only own pathfinder2 books and that's what I'm playing
>>
>>97812847
>tiefling warlock
A) What kind of Tiefling, that's a versatile heritage, not a standard race
B) What warlock homebrew?? There's like 5 of them going at any given time. Why would you let a newbie to PF bring a whole ass custom class??
>>
>>97812867

my fault, the class is witch.i keep mixing it with warlock because of translation reasons
>Why would you let a newbie to PF bring a whole ass custom class?
well he made a diabolical sorceror at first and change the class without telling me right until the start of the game. I wanted to ask him to use the sorceror but decided allowing him run the witch would help me learn more about the class
>>
>>97812934
Ah okay, Witch is fine. Warlock is just a very odd thing to bring up, even translation-wise, as 2e just doesn't have any real equivalent.
>>
>>97812953
we're all spanish, that's the issue (in spanish bruja=witch, brujo=warlock). i keep mixing them up when using english

hellspawn
>>
>>97813091
I meant what was their base race, not lineage feat, though that's cool to know.
Also huh. Warlock/Witch is a fairly common gendered tie in English, even if ACKTUALLY both are gender-neutral. Wouldn't consider Brujo = Warlock.
>>
>>97813110
>>97812953
It's probably a localization thing, same issue happens in portuguese, warlock is called a "Bruxo" here. We really don't have a proper term for warlock in our language, most likely due to the world coming from fantasy rather than ancient religious shticks
Animist is also called Xamã - Shaman here, and Swashbuckler is called Duelista

More meme than anything. A ritual CAN spice up a campaign, stuff like Create Undead, Lucky Month, Bonding Meal, Army of Shadows, or Call Spirit all do sound like fun things to mess around with. Just that as a full archetype, it's not worth it. Just barter with your DM to use the rituals you want.
