Companion is certainly one the most poorly thought mechanics ever created and Mark deserves the criticism he got for that one. Storm I'm a bit ambivalent about. For the most part it is a very easy to abuse mechanic but then that also makes it a favorite of competitive players and I think such mechanics have their place in the game. Dredge is similar, it's easy to abuse but from a purely mechanical point of view I think it's neat.

It's not that certain mechanics are bad itself, it's just that they're not thought out and implemented properly.

You need to understand that dredge reads

Maybe one way to fix dredge is to make it a one time thing. Instead of returning the card to hand, you exile it and get to cast a copy of it. That still keeps the cascade effect of milling other dredge cards, but you don't run into the endless recursion problem.

Poison could be a good mechanic it were 20 instead of 10 for game and could be interacted with as in being able to be removed instead of only being able to be added
An opposite keyword to Proliferate could be very well have been released alongside it
Planeswalkers could be good if they weren't treated an non-creatures while on the field, given they have game warping effects and can't be removed unless with cards that target any permanent

Well, he seemed to "join" the gatewatch more as a means to make sure stuff like the Eldrazi invasion didn't happen again. He helped with Innistrad and Emrakul, but Kaladesh, for him, was unnecessary for them to get involved as a group and after Nicol Bolas just mindbroke him into Ixalan, he basically completely gave up on the "gatewatch" bullshit. Gideon was the only one truly commited to the point of the gatewatch. Chandra tagged along because she's a dumb fire throwing girl and wants to throw more fire and Nissa just kind of joined because she was curious about other planes.

If anything Nicol Bolas destroying the dumb gatewatch figuratively was the best thing to happen.

You're literally calling a person a liar because the suits at the top do whatever the fuck they want and is out of their control.
His only choice would be to not talk or say anything at all. If you were in his position there might be things you think would be stupid to ever do, so you might say somewhere on your podcast, social media, blog, statement at an event or whatever about it or it slipping out. Then a few months later the people above you decide to do the thing you thought and said was never happening (because you think it's dumb).
And because he's in the position he is, he can't openly start pointing fingers. It's ride or die (leave the company).
It's very obvious you've never worked at a place where you're middle or upper management where the people at the top keep fucking shit up and you have to try to make it work and still act professional.

In reality he has very little control. He's mainly part of vision design and hands over responsibility to others when it comes to balance and mechanical design. He's just the vocal "face" of MtG.
