Are there any systems or rules for generating random combat maps?
I am playing ACKS with my friends and thought it would be easy to come up with random combat maps during exploration in the wilderness but turns out it wasnt.

1974 dnd if you use the chainmail terrain method. Sure they arent random because bith side place the terrain but it can still lead to interesting encounters.

Take old warhammer fantasy battle terrain generators, lots of variety.
Divide the area into 6 sections like it was a wargame table.
Rolls 1d3 terrain pieces for each section.

Various biome types.
Mix these in with details on your hex key.
D30 Sandbox Companion and/or DMs Miscellany Wilderness work well for me.

Having a few premade distributions in the notebook or on an index card has sped things up.
