Gearhead thread but for /tg/Part of why I like to play ttrpg's is the analog aspect. I prefer to keep all digital things out of the experience. No laptops, ipads, phones at the table. Well, an exception can be made for googling something quick, but other than that, keep that shit in your pocket.I like to do my gm prep, world building, drawing maps, in notebooks. npc and character sheets etc.on paper.I really like MUJI stationery. Their notebooks are really nice, and their pens and pencils are amazing.I recently found some hex paper notebooks on amazon. That was really nice to use to draw some hex maps.Do you have any neat stationery or other analog "gear" that you really like? Could you share some of your cool items or showcase your note taking system or maps or whatever?
>>97809050Just started getting into leather working very recently. Figure I would use it to make world maps, dice bags and cups, and other gaming peripherals for the group like character folio covers.Yeah, gaming should be as analog as possible. There are enough cards and cheat sheets out there for ease of reference that using electronics should be verboten at the table. Also, found it handy to use metal coins or poker chips for player currency. Having to hand over physical currency for in game purchases make the players more greedy.
>>97809050I've never played online, but with games like 5e, I usually use custom character sheets made in Google Sheets or something. The shit is unbearable in pure analog.> I like to do my gm prep, world-building, and drawing maps in notebooks. npc and character sheets etc.on paper. I really like MUJI stationery. Their notebooks are really nice, and their pens and pencils are amazing.I don't really prep beyond an A4 page of notes, and when I do, I usually print my notes. I prefer to use hardcover notebooks with a good binding. The local shop I can always find them with the best quality and price is Flying Tiger Copenhagen.I don't word-build beyond the needs of the plot.I drew my own maps a couple of times, but I usually print them.I don't use NPC sheets, but I usually create and print custom character sheets for players with notes on rules and things the default layout leaves out.> I recently found some hex paper notebooks on Amazon. That was really nice to use to draw some hex maps. Not a big fan of using grid maps. I have an erasable hex grid to cover this and a small binder with printed hex grids.> Do you have any neat stationery or other analog "gear" that you really like? Could you share some of your cool items or showcase your note-taking system, maps, or whatever?Sometimes I use a load of board game pieces to health/mana/stamina/states, etc., like small cubes of different colors.I also use cases from a home improvement shop to store dice and those pieces.I am taking notes just by immediately writing a line about what has happened if I know it will be relevant further into the campaign. I also usually gather notes on players' expectations/PC downtime activities at the end of the sessions.
>>97809050>muji stationaryI really love their aluminum fountain pen.
>>97809050I have a person in my life that makes custom dice bags for a few of my players They also made a dice bag bag for me
>>97809050Man im glad im not the only basic bitch out here using MUJI pens. The 0.5mm gel pens are beautiful to write with and cost nearly nothing. I still have fountain pens laying around but i havent used one in years because i just dont need to any more
>>97809456How do you like Die Schwarze Katze?
>>97811013My group has been enjoying itI haven't played DSA5, but it's less rule and lore heavy than 4.0 at least, but more than DnD. It's a nice balance It works well for silly small adventuresI haven't touched Ahnenfall yet, not sure if I ever wellIt hasn't been selling well so it will probably not get a lot of content and die in the next few yearsI would pick it(preferably one of the beginner sets) up if you have friends with pets
>>97809050>thing:(>thing but japanese:D
>>97809050I do prefer to keep my notes physical, but digital devices do offer plenty of nice possibilities: making nicer maps/handouts, playing ambience and music, making databases for players and lots of others. I honestly don't care much about brand at all and just grab whatever has the nicest cover and the best size for my needs in whatever shop I'm at. I tend to churn through notebooks pretty quickly and they tend to get beaten up from being lugged inside backpacks all the time anyway
>>97809050Just grid paper, mechanical pencils, dry erase board and markers.
Sadly a lot of zoomies are digital only these days, but I did find a way to make only a minor concession from my point of view that will quickly weed out the worthwhile ones from the terminally techbrained: I have a large format tablet that has nothing on it but whatever books are required for the game at hand, a PDF/epub reader, a calculator, and a notepad app and on which I've physically disabled wifi and bluetooth. If they have specific things they want put on it for a session they must submit them in advance for vetting and I'll load them on manually using a USB hookup.Otherwise all tech is banned, all phones are left in the hall outside and people are instructed to have everyone but their spouse or emergency contact silenced. If they're actually there to play and aren't using "but I onwy own the books as PDFs...uwu" as an excuse to keep hold of their Attention Vampire during gametime, they will agree to my terms. If not then they're not worth gaming with anyway.
>>97809050Got my eternal pencils today.
>>97809050100% agree that everything digital is a huge distraction when playing. Prep should be rules handouts, quick reference sheets, most common and important game processes, character sheets obviously, maybe a picture or two to establish the setting, maybe some maps if I'm feeling fancy. Notes just need to be a few supporting words for each thing so I don't forget the most important details. Then a notebook and pen+eraser to take note during play. I think it's really important to lower expectations on "production value" of games. Seems like people think GM:ing is setting up a one-man movie production for the players and thus will never even try doing it.

>>97817358It is for the players.

Don't don't make stationeries like this where I'm from, so fragile, so refined
