Repeat after me: MAKE. YOUR. POTIONS. IN. PILL. FORME!Pills are ancient, they predate Egypt! We made pills better in medieval Europe by putting them inside purified nontoxic silver to boost power, we don't do that anymore because it's too expensive.Whole reason why we take pills and don't drink medicine is because any medicine is just 0.1% active ingredients, putting it inside a pill is more efficient, making it a drink is wasteful.Realistically in DND, if potions were real, they'd kill adventurers, all over the Adventures Guild you'd see newspapers like:>SSS-rank barbarian killed in the Dungeon because drinking healpot takes too long!>LVL 99 thief killed in the Dungeon because he choked on manapot... it went down the wrong hole!>The Hero killed in the Dungeon because he tripped down stairs and broke all pots!Potions? Not even once! Pills are the right way.
What a lovely, on-topic and spot-on thread!
>>97835768Do you know how large and how many pills you'd have to take just to get the benefits of one potion?Tossing down a handful of 22mm pills dry is going to be an unpleasant experience, and still will be even if chased down by a glass of water. While most of a potion is water, it's still easier to just chug a bottle of something over taking that high of a dosage in pill form.
Pills require grinding down and homogeneizing the ingredients, and fiddling with binding agents and presses.A salve can be cooked up in a copper pot, and stored in a boiled gourd. Also, not all medicines are for internal use.
>>97835841>In this setting all potions have to be an enema hahaha that would be crazy hahaha
>>97835768>>SSS-rank barbarian killed in the Dungeon because drinking healpot takes too long!>>LVL 99 thief killed in the Dungeon because he choked on manapot... it went down the wrong hole!>>The Hero killed in the Dungeon because he tripped down stairs and broke all pots!Who are you quoting? Also I realistically doubt that you actually play games>>97835837They are magical so obviously you can take just a small one, how dumb are you?
>>97835768>take magic pill>have to wait for it to digest instead of going directly into your bloodstream
>>97835841>Pills require grinding down and homogeneizing the ingredients, and fiddling with binding agents and presses.Yeah potions are just so much easier to create
don't xianxia and cultivation stories feature lots of pills
>>97836337Chinese internal alchemy is the process of using your own body as the furnace to craft your own golden core/pill
>>97835768Cool idea, definitely adapting that. Never liked the idea of potions anyway. Like, are you supposed to just chug a whole bottle of liquid in one go?
>>97835837Instead of studying alchemy, you should work on your art
>>97836391How long do you think it takes you to drink 1 oz of liquid?
>>97836337Yes, complete with mercury for guaranteed immortality!
>>97835768Wait, you guys have been drinking your potions? Those are meant to be applied topically!
>>97836740>potionsEnjoy your miscibility table results
>>97836391
>>97835768Really I think potions would be alcohol-based infusions and EXTREMELY bitter
>>97835768And the chocolate coating makes it go down easier!
>>97835768>>97835837It's this one actually: >>97836335The liquid nature of potions is a feature: you drink the potion and it's immediately available to your body; readily absorbing into the mucous membrane of your guts. You make a pill and the pill's casing has to be broken down, digested, and your little microbes have to circulate it through various systems 'till it gets to your body. If I could, the potion and the pill are both perfectly practical, but they serve different medical applications:-The potion is best for immediate use despite the complications and expenses regarding storage, dosage, etc.. You wouldn't even necessarily need to consume the potion: getting it on your skin, pouring it on a wound, may be sufficient. Butt-chugging a potion would also have immediate effects. Likewise, in some circumstances; a potion could be theoretically thrown or splashed onto an ill person.-The pill is superior in terms of shelf-life, transportation, storage, is infinitely cheaper, and has the benefit of delayed use. Magical pills would be more practical for long journeys away from society and would be of better use to normal people. Furthermore, the fact the pill takes 30 minutes to 2 hours means pills can be taken preventively: your adventurer pops a pill in anticipation of poison, disease, or massive damage.
>>97835768Seems interesting. I could see it being a more expensive alternative (with the purified silver), but have the advantage of making it quicker to use than a potion. But in any instance where you have time to sit down and bandage your wounds, a potion is cheaper and just as effective. Works well as a way to add more depth to alchemy as a system, where there's now an extra balancing act between utility and cost.
>>97836335>>97837011Maybe a reduced or delayed effect in exchange for ease of use, like requiring a faster action type rather than a full one? It also takes up much less space and you don't have glass bottles with liquid sloshing around.
>>97836755Doesn't apply to healing
