Been chilling on Japanese TRPG twitter and they put like 1000% times more effort into the games they run. Like this would be a pic of how polished an average VTT game looks like in Japan.
>>
I can guarantee you that theatre of the mind with beer and pretzels with Gary on a Saturday night is 1000% more fun than this soulless artificial fun VTT bullshit

Some people are visual people though.

Aphantasia sufferers really have no business playing imagination based games
>>
>>97837096
Even without Aphantasia, visuals help.

>Chess pieces
>Lego men
>Salt shakers
>Drawing on paper
Any effort spent on bullshit like in OP pic could be time spent prepping what actually matters in the roleplaying game. If spectacle mattered then GMs would be creating painted terrain and minis for every single session
>>
>>97837088
Visual thinkers shouldn't have any problem playing theater of the mind. The problem is people who are not visual thinkers.

I tried to put this much effort in my games but all it did was burn me out for no reason
I can imagine an apple and so can my players – no need whatsoever to do more than use unpainted minis and draw on the laminated game board

>what actually matters in the roleplaying game
Having fun?
If it enhances the fun for someone and doesn't diminish anyone else's it's time well spent anyway.

t. someone who can't imagine an apple

Source: your ass.

the point of art isn't to help visualize the game, it's to help everyone visualize the SAME game.

>t. nogames
have fun having to deal with your group losing track of things repeatedly or misunderstanding positioning the second combat starts
>>

This isn't even much effort? A battle map, some tokens, and Foundry with Combat Carousel, Dice So Nice, Splatter, and what looks like Theater Inserts.

That's basically been my base minimum since Foundry came out, with the exception of battlemaps when I couldn't be assed. But for a game like D&D it's practically required, but there's so many maps and tools out there specifically for D&D it's a non-issue.

Everyone thinking this is a lot of effort is retarded.

You are a polished DM then. Most VTT games are barebones.
