Kill all the deities, especially Mystra

Deities haven't come up in my game yet, but I do wonder who a nothic in Phandelver would have worshipped. I had a player say something that made the nothic go "Jesus Christ", but I caught myself and said "Pellor" only because that was the first god in the pantheon I could think of.

What, again?

I want to do 3d6 straight down the line, BUT, to make it work I have reduced the impact of ability scores. A 3- is a -2, 4-7 is -1, 8-13 is +0, 14-17 is +1, and 18+ is +2. (Then, Proficiency Bonus is increased by +2, to keep the math roughly similar. Thus, a character with 3 in a given score is equivalent to somebody with a 10 in it, etc.)

However, obviously, this makes ASI ass. My current plan is to make ASI increase ability scores by twice as much (so +4, +2/+2, etc). Does this work? Is there some stupid side effect I'm missing?

3d6 worked because the attributes were less meaningful. The difference between 18 and 3 Dexterity in OD&D was +1 to missile attacks and -1 to missile attacks. Stupid fuck.
