Have there been any TTRPG systems in the past five years that have jumped to the top of your favorites? Anything that has replaced what you've been playing? This hobby just seems so stale with people talking about the same old systems, Dungeons and Dragons(Any edition), Pathfinder, blah blah blah that it's hard to tell when new blood actually enters the scene.

I mean, does a 2nd edition count? Star Trek Adventures came out in 2017, but I didn't ever check it out until 2024, when the 2nd edition somehow caught my eye. It's absolutely wonderful. I know all the fans are butthurt because it's a "buy new books for a game that isn't that much different." But I wasn't already invested in 1st edition, so it didn't matter to me. Just meant a backlog of other stuff I could go through as I awaited new things.

I think it's really wonderful. The way the push/pull momentum/threat mechanics work, the episodic adventure setup, the social combat that's genuinely engaging... The rules impress the hell outa me and I think it's a wonderful game.

L5R 5th edition is our go to at the moment, not counting old system we go back to every now and then. It's the right spot of being both simple to learn and with enough nuance that it rewards knowing what you are doing, plus it engages players and encourages them to get involved because they can use their rolls to get an edge or move things forward.
We have a new player that just started out and things went very smoothly.

Not really.
There is no benefit in chasing obscure stuff unless it's solo because I am not going to convince anyone I know to play it.
Meanwhile with new (to me) solo games tend to be something I play once or twice but never make a regular part of my standard solo sessions.

I really like Ashes Without Number, since it's the first system in a while that scratches the Gamma World itch well - as well as covering any number of other types of post apocalyptic disasters besides gonzo mutant stuff

I always play different systems. But in the last years, games finally start to resemble a "complete product". I've greately enjoyed Slugbluster, Spire, and Mythic Bastionland.

No. I haven't stumbles upon any that seem interesting to try, although that might change, one of us pledged in an animu kickstarter with power cards or something.

Still a huge fan of Silhouette Core ([skill]d6, pick highest) and whatever system the shit game Fragged Empires uses (3d6 vs. Target Number, nat6s add bonus effects). Oh, and that one Marvel game with Poker chips.

Of course it counts. The question asks for any game that in the past five years has jumped to the top of your favourites. As much as op dismisses old and D&D, if an old D&D release had jumped to the top of your favourites in the past five years it qualifies under op. OP should have said "released in" to close down that loophole; hard to tell when new blood enters isn't strong enough

As I understand it STA 2e made many changes to 1e, most notably I think being the removal of challenge dice. I'm not a big STA fan but iirc in 1e when you phasered someone you rolled a number of dice based on the weapon rating and your skill level with 5s being a hit and 6s being a hit + special effect. In 2e it's fixed damage by weapon and that momentum you think is wonderful for special effects right? Less swingy, more streamlined. It sounds like the designers and developers put some thought into that revamped system.

Like I said, not a STA fan, but if you wanted to explain those push/pull etc mechanics and the social combat I'd be keen to read a bit. Though do write like it's for a 12 year old please and don't think for a second you're obliged either to answer at all or to give a comprehensive answer It's just not often I hear a rpg described as wonderful and your opinion stands out.

Regardless of whether you've opportunity and motivation, thanks for taking the time to be enthusiastic about a game without demeaning another and making it sound interesting. Twice in the past year people have written simply and directly like you and made things I'd over looked sound really appealing.
