>Player or GMGM>Preferred System(s)OSR alike (I did the classic ORS thing of taking rules and systems I like from many OSR games but I pulled from a few non OSR d20 games as well) (in order of amount of content pulled, LotFP, DCC, DnD RC, 13th age, The Black Hack, ect.)>Schedule/Times Available (include timezone)3:30pm EST every Saturday if enough players RSVP, no worries if you can't make a session though.>Voice or TextVoice>Method(s) of Play (Skype, Discord, IRC, roll20, etc)Discord, Theater of the Mind>Tone/Theme PreferredClassic fantasy, sometimes funny, sometimes serious, high death if the players aren't careful, low-mid death if they are.>Contact InfoSmashed on discord>Other NotesFully fleshed out KotBL to start. The campaign as a whole is a sandbox although there might be hooks for one or two session adventures that lean a bit more railroady, you will have to (both literally or figuratively) explore the sandbox to find most of those though.I will not giving a ton of info to the players about how the system is working, in a super old school style. Players still roll and have a sheet but you will not know everything that is going on in the rules. It will probably be rather lethal if you don't take things slowTHIS IS NOT 5e OR ANYTHING CLOSE, if you come in assuming that it is like 5e you will be wrong. The game has been going for a few months now, slowly increasing in cadence from one a month to once a week, players adding and dropping as time has gone by (more have added than have dropped). The game is just getting into the meat and potatoes of things though, the party has explored about a third of the rooms on the first floor of Quasqueton and knows where the caves of Chaos are. The furthest along players earned XP/XP needed to level up based on class are about 75% of the way to level 2, with the rate of XP gain going up recently due to them starting to loot a dungeon.

>>97852210I love GURPS but I don't think I'm very good at it. I love the idea of GURPS. I want to play using GURPS. I want it to be more commonly used. But finding people who are using it to run sword-and-sorcery games is hard. Most people I've seen who are using it just run like historical reenactment / Wild West / rum runner Cthulu / wacky nonsense games. And I'm just not enthused about the Wild West, and I'm not really in the mood for Cthulu, and I don't really have a connection with the weird homebrew nonsense games. So maybe GURPS GMs think it's just boring to run sword-and-sorcery (post D&D traumatic aversion), but it's my comfort food and I like the genre and I think it's the easiest way to get familiar with GURPS generally (because the Dungeon Fantasy / Dungeon Fantasy RPG material is great, imo). And I currently using GURPS? No, I haven't used it for a few years now because I just didn't feel like I understood what I was doing well enough. Would I like to? Yeah... but in my experience most GMs are just not good enough for my standards.

>>97854953I really want to try Abbarant, Mage or Ars Magicka
>>97855598I don't like it either buddy, but what can I do? 4chan traffic gets lower with each passing year.>>97855830We're loving Vampire at the moment but in the far future I plan to switch to either Wraith, Demon, or Werewolf.
>>97856062looks pretty kino, is that r20 with a skin or foundry? I'd throw my hat in the ring if I had a decent microphone ( tinny cellphone all i got atm). The whitewolf wiki has taught me that the techno union is probobly a more accurate way to look at modern isreal than the view of zionism. No intent to run a full multidisciplinary world of darkness game? I would like to get some world of darkness experience - the closest I have come besides the source engine game is DTD40k7e . When i was new to the hobby I would have done anything to try vampire but as my life has evolved i am far more interested in Mage despite having half a dozen vampire characters in other media ( my vampire in DTD with darksteel arms predates aramanet haki luffy :^) ) and being Italian . What clans are your players in? There are alot of VTM people in city of heroes these days and one of them put me up on abbarant which was a great read. Gonna be pretty hard to top the few years i spent with Lancer.
>>97854953>games last for about 8-12 hoursJesus Christ!
>>97856308That's a medium game session, anon. It's long enough to actually get meaningful story development along with a few combats. You might be able to clear an entire dungeon floor in that amount of time, instead of having to split up one little dungeon between multiple sessions.
>>97856650>>97854953Not to sound rude but rather curious, how can you handle session's that long? I get mentally exhausted as a GM for doing five hour sessions, let alone six.Just asking out of curiosity
>>97856703Well, it used to be pretty normal to be able to concentrate for eight hours while having fun playing games. We might break for like half an hour to have lunch and there'd be times we were busy checking books for some kind of content or rule, or creating resources for the game like statting out our vehicle or accounting for our inventories or something like that. Someone's wife might call and we'd all take a piss break. That kind of thing.Being able to just spend all day playing games was just normal. That's how you spend the day when you're having fun. I had materials prepared ahead of time. All I had to do was actually just run it. It's not stressful when you already know what you're doing. And when you're actually playing with adults who know what they're doing.Made a small amount of money doing it, too. I haven't run games these last few years, but when I was running them I charged $35 an hour, so I'd get like 280 per week, which is like 1,120 a month. It's not something you're gonna live on, but it helps to compensate for how much work goes into producing a major effort like that. Eight hour session takes like 20 hours of work to prepare for (terrain and maps are the most time consuming). That's literally a part time job in terms of time investment.Painters, illustrators, designers all get paid. Authors and accountants get paid. Software developers and game designers get paid. Marketing and human resources managers get paid. When you know you're getting compensated for your work, you can actually do a good job. When you do a good job, the players want to be there. When everyone wants to be there... eight hours is not a long time.
>>97856650long games are kino as fuck. weekend dnd during highschool was usually noon until people start passing out, then a bit more in the morning before everyone heads home by like 2pm
>>97856848You start Friday after school, there's a break for breakfast and Saturday morning cartoons, then the weekly session ends Sunday night because everyone's mom gets mad if they aren't home when the streetlights come on when it's a school night.Your friend's older brother's mini apartment in the basement was stuffed full of cool shit like his porn and he didn't give a fuck if you said bad words and debated whether medusa had tits or if she was full reptile "all the way up".
>>97856703On my end, I've been doing this for a really long time and have just gotten really good at it. It helps that I enjoy the process a lot but it's primarily an extreme amount of experience. I remember my first 5-6 years of GMing 3-4 hours was my maximum; I'd get mentally exhausted past that point as well. Things have changed and I can comfortable get to 10 hours with mental exhaustion. I also use tricks and techniques to reduce cognitive load as much as possible.
>>97857065comfortably get to 10 hours without mental exhaustion*I should mention I also indulge in a lot of weed and drink alcohol throughout. I am perpetually wired, immersed, and in-the-mood, eventually reaching a flow state past the 1-3hr mark, where I Drunken Master through narration and gameplay. Despite it affecting most people negatively I feed off of it - flow state is really the best way I can describe it. At one point you stop thinking so much and do it based off of emotion and automatic writing/describing. My best scene descriptions are when I turn my brain off and just let words flow. Same with the story - I don't plan ahead but react based on player actions. This makes it much easier than constantly thinking and worrying throughout the session. Our longest session was 14h and we were all eager to continue if it weren't for real-life responsibilities. Some of us have slept 3h a night after a 12hr bender session to then work a full-time shift. The truth is this would not be possible without a compatible, high-energy group of people.
>>97857123>The truth is this would not be possible without a compatible, high-energy group of people.>>97856794>When everyone wants to be there... eight hours is not a long time.Basically.But back on topic.>>97852210I'd like to? But >>97854680I, too, would prefer sword-and-sorcery because it's familiar.
>>97854953I'm interested, although not sure I would meet your standards given my voice skills are rusty (I played text primarily for years). However, I would not be able to start until May, and would certainly have (scheduled) absences occasionally. No more than a handful a year. I hope you're amenable to such a thing given the desire for a permanent position, but also wanted to ask what kind of process you were considering for screening potential players. I would also find it difficult to schedule a whole lot of anything this month, although can certainly try, and am happy to use asynchronous text in the meanwhile.
