Sorry for the off-topic thread but I was recommended to bring this to /tg/'s attention because you guys might be interested as well. I'm going to be running a monthly book club for Hideyuki Kikuchi's 'Vampire Hunter D' novel series. I've already made a thread on /a/ and /lit/ where I go into more detail, but I'll make a thread every month (starting May 13th) where we discuss that months volume. Of course, we haven't started yet so we'd begin with finishing volume 1 BEFORE May 13th. Here's the /lit/ thread >>25190868 and the /a/ thread >>287288596 I have a poll open to see which board people would prefer it on but it's likely going to be on /a/ (/lit/ tends to look down upon fantasy and fiction altogether) If (you)'d like to join in, pop on over to either board and post a reply. Thanks.
>>97848892I retarded and don't know how to link threads from other boards. Use these:>>>/lit/25190868>>>/a/287288596
>>97848892Thanks, I'm somewhat interested as one of my games incorporates some elements of VHD into it (it's Rifts Vampire Kingdoms).
>>97848892I am interested, OP. I love the movies and I read one novel years ago when I saw it on the shelf at Borders. I remember it being disappointing—choppy and awkward with almost every chapter ending with some off-the-wall enemy’s appearance or resolution to a conflict. Nevertheless, revisiting D would be fun. I will be monitoring this.
Fantasy is /tg/ according to moot
>>97850668I happen to have one volume but haven't cracked into it. Would be a good opportunity.
bump. did /op/ died? I just downloaded all books. but you need to post the links man. /a/ is fast because is filled with spams and schizos. /lit/ is slower but /tg/ is the more stable board out there.
>>97850668>according to mootwho?
>>97855205He probably forgot about this thread and is on the other ones, because even though it's tangentially /tg/(Robert E Howard influences I guess), it's still more /lit/ and /a/
>>97856730The/lit thread is rather dead, and /a/ has been archived
>>97855205>>97856730Sorry, I had a busy day at work and just got home. I won't be using Google Drive anymore but this Mega link for the bookshttps://mega (dot) nz/folder/M1RD3IqI#EgmOfATaz5QkMVqCtZ2xtQThe /a/ thread died after I went to bed and I didn't bother posting much on the /lit/ thread due to lack of activity but it's still alive. I'm just sort of letting the threads die because there isn't much more to do besides just wait for May 13th to come around. I don't want to keep spamming new threads or bumping old ones because I think whosever joined in has already seen them. But you're kinda right. I'm going to reply to this post with a slightly modified op message I used for the other threads just in case a random /tg/ anon stumbles across here.
>>97857392Hello! I'd like to start a new general where we read through the Vampire Hunter D novel series written by Hideyuki Kikuchi and translated into English by Kevin Leahy. I'll be hosting these threads on /a/ and thought that /tg/ would be interested in joining. I do this because while they're novels, the series has spurred several Manga and Anime adaptations making it /a/ adjacent. However, the main focus of these threads will be on the individual novels as we read through them.Currently, I've only ever seen the anime movie, Bloodlust, but have acquired the first three volumes. I'd like to read through the series and see if any other Anons would care to join me. I think I'll aim to post this general once a month on the 13th (because it's a spooky number) which will give us enough time to read the next Volume. Each Volume seems to only be around 200 pages, meaning about 30 days between threads should be enough time for everyone to finish but I'm open to extending or shortening that time if others feel I should. As of right now, there are 30 volumes and The Readers Guide translated into English, meaning this book club can go on for quite some time. In these threads, I'd like to discuss the books in depth and see other peoples opinions, reviews, and impressions or just hang out. Also, any official interviews, reviews, or news clippings for the series are more than welcome in these threads. If (you) are interested, please post a reply and aim to finish Volume 1 by May 13th and meet us on /a/.I'll provide a mega link I've set up containing every volume currently in English here: https://mega (dot) nz/folder/M1RD3IqI#EgmOfATaz5QkMVqCtZ2xtQ
>>97848892I'm definitely interested in this.
>>97848892I haven't read these in a long time, and I only ever got through the first dozen or so. I'd be down for joining a bookclub for them. I dunno about monthly though... god damn that's a long time to take to read one of these. They're honestly like 2 day read, max. But I'm down, anon.I guess if you want it on /tg/, make it a worldbuilding thread that establishes the world as we go through the novels, pulling out and systemetizing what's up in the world. The tech we encounter, the politics, locations and monsters. The "magic" systems. It could be doable on /tg/.
>>97849776>I remember it being disappointing—choppy and awkward with almost every chapter ending with some off-the-wall enemy’s appearance or resolution to a conflictYou are remembering correctly. The writing isn't great. The translations aren't great. But they're fun enough, and easy enough reads, that you might as well get through 'em if you're at all interested.
