I keep seeing so many third party DnD stuff with massive kickstarters and loads of books. Are there any of these that are actually good?
>inb4 no because 5e

There is a ring of d&d "influencers" that all get paid to push each of these to their audience. Terrible channels that make short videos about things that totes sound like they could happen around a table or give remedial DM advice or explain retarded character builds. You know the ones I'm talking about.
The people who watch those buy every single one of these things on KS, never use any of them, probably don't even read them and then go on to consume next product.
I honestly doubt that there are actual reviews from people who read or used the vast majority of these.

If it's got ads on instagram, it's probably not worth your fucking time.

I really would think these are all shell products if it wasn't for the fact that FLGS were always filled with hundreds and hundreds of boxes of shit like this that nobody ever bought. I have never been into a shop that has been around for a long time that doesn't have stuff from the day they opened or even older stuff they bought from another shop that closed still kicking around.

JFC no.

Steinhardt’s Guide to the Eldritch Hunt was pretty good

Seems that part of the grift is getting retailers to shell out thousands of dollars for said boxes of shit. It's not a new problem for game and comic stores to have an owner who throws away money on stupid product that no one will buy because he thought it looked cool online. It's only surprising that they keep falling for it and FOMOing into the "once in a lifetime" kickstarter deals to buy a bunch of collectors editions with lots of useless bullshit in them that no one will ever use.

Yeah, I imagine that a lot of shops fall for that I'm sure. I do know a few people who are the real audience for that shit so god bless 'em, but not for me.

To the contrary they're almost never bad. It just boils down to how much you're willing to spend on this hobby.

>almost never
I fuckin' doubt it, let's hear about some examples you bought and used

As far as 5e material goes, anything not made by WotC is likely to be slightly better, if only because they aren't constrained by WotC's internal policies, but they'll still be 5e. As far as I've seen, most 5e-compatible content is fucking terrified of actually changing or improving anything. They'll tack on a handful of subclasses, but they won't make new classes or change the way the base classes work.

Mostly because they are written by wanna be novelists and not actually game designers.

Which is a good thing, considering it's the best RPG and the most popular by far.

Then how come none of them ever write actual campaigns? Isn't that WotC's Achilles heel? If they like D&D so much, you'd think they'd write stories about it instead of just waiting for Paizo to convert their shit over.
