what started out as a sort-of valid complaint that people would focus more on the RP part of RPG to detriment of the table ended up being a hatred for anyone who plays for any reason other than get gold, kill orc

"storyshitters" is a phrase that only exists in the troll lexicon.
You are guaranteed that anyone who uses that phrase will be a troll.

The storyshitter is a form of player who makes the story ahead of time to the detriment of the gameplay, rather than the storyfag who plays to find out what happens. Storyfags are great and play games suited to their interests, storyshitters just use whatever version of dnd is current to jam whatever youtuber they're inspired by into an evening of wasting everyone's time.
You can tell which ones are which by who gets offended by the term.

Ok, a storyshitter is a guy like Jack Burton, except gay. That means, in a game, he has no interest in learning martial arts, just looking cool and passive-agressively signaling sex-appeal to Kim Catrall (except he's gay so it's some Tiefling daddy). So he writes his backstory, where he takes an arrow to the knee (like Kurt Russel often does in action movies because he's just a hunk who can't actually fight), and that arrow to the knee is his entire participation in the movie right there. Any scenes that don't focus on the storyshitter engaging with his backstory are stale, way more stale than the actual kung fu guys, because he only wants to act upon showing his knee pain and willingness to fuck Kim Catrall tiefling daddy.
Now, sure, I love Kurt Russel, he's funny in that part, but storyshitters aren't. They aren't because, unlike Kurt Russel probably did in his trailer, the storyshitters won't actually get to fuck Kim Catrall (daddy), so they can't have the actual jocosity he carries in his sexual signaling.
Now, don't get me wrong, having one properly tard-wrangled storyshitter can add to your story, just make sure he doesn't bring more than 3 lines of backstory. It's allowing him to have a full backstory that takes away from the experience, because he then tries to play second GM and mold reality to his magical realm bullshit.
Also, playing with several of them feels like watching Expendables, a bunch of dudes trying to one-up themselves and no satisfactory scenes because their contracts all probably read like The Rock's hiring contract where he can't lose on screen.
And by no means let one of them GM, or it will be like Ghost, except with Whoopie Goldberg as the romantic interest instead of Demi Moore.
