I think I finally have an interesting paint idea for the twin lance.
I can't tell you in case somebody steals it, but rest assured it's kind of a cool idea.

Also, I see GW still doesn't fucking know how to make model kits and that tau jump packs are still impossible to build without terrible gaps.

I've found myself really lacking the desire and energy to pick up paints and really work on my projects and I've narrowed it down to the fact that my back absolutely kills and my legs and ass hurt like a mother fucker because my chair is completely dog shit. Look up refurbished/used Aerons from Herman Miller. The GOAT of the chair world, it will actively fix your back for as long as you sit on it properly. A new one is ridiculously expensive, but you can refurbished ones fairly cheap.

>>
>>97860483
>>97860511
oh the rabbit hole of office chairs

check out also the herman miller embody or steelcase please 2 wich is a lot more afordable (secondhand/refurbished too)

but never ever buy a chair without trying it out first, or buy one you can return for cheap or free after a couple weeks
also never buy an ergochair
>>
Weird thing but despite planning to get better with airbrush, Im actively afraid of using it. I planned to get on with larger model today but I can feel that I'm honestly scared of starting, each time I pick it up my fingers are shaking and losing grip, I instantly imagine how it will get clogged again or how it will take long time to clean or how I will again do something fundamentally wrong. Had similar problems with painting with brush (like constantly assuming I will ruin the paintjob) but here stakes are higher.
>>
>>97860588
>but here stakes are higher.
Anon, you are clearly on the spectrum here, but what the fuck are you talking about. The worst that can happen is that you'll have to clean the airbrush, which takes minutes.
>>
>>97860558
>>97860511
All I've managed so far is to go to the charity shops around me and sit in the chairs they've got. Every single one is better than my shit fold out chair I'm using now, but I feel like it's infinitely better to get a Herman Miller chair even if they'll cost 4-5x more than anything in a a charity shop or on Amazon or some Chinese website. I genuinely thought ergonomic chairs were the way to go but it seems not?
>>
>>97860616
The chair doesn't matter when you hunch over, may as well sit on a stool
>>
>>97860616
Aerons are imo a fantastic investment. They force you to sit properly, minimizing most of the bad shit happening to your back with long hours of sitting. And with a little bit of care, they are imo a lifelong item. There's a reason why even turborich fags like Zucc use it.
There are probably a lot cheaper chairs that will give you like 90% of the performance, you are definitely paying a bit for the brand name with HM. But still, if you spend most of your life sitting, it's imo a good investment.
t. my ass sitting on Aeron for nearly eight years now.
>>
>>97860616
an aeron or embody is over 2k€, the please is around 1k...you can get an ikea markus for ~160 (wich is the supposed gold standard of cheap chairs)
but if you think about it, if you use a chair 10+h a day for 10 years or more is not really a big price to pay to be confortable and keep your health, more so if you already have problems

>I genuinely thought ergonomic chairs were the way to go but it seems not?
the 'ergochair' is an actual model name (of a chinesium chair), all the above mentioned chairs are 'ergonomic', wich basically means they have some amount of adjustments, height, depth, angle, etc

>>97860646
the seat also matters, even more when you hunch over actually, a stool will destroy your butt in no time
>>
>>97860689
is it confortable to sit crosslegged on those?
>>
>>97860689
I've found some for £500, but I will say I work 5 days a week on my feet and normally about 1 day off I'm hobbying, 3D modelling, or painting. I still think the Aeron would be worth it as it looks like they sell parts for it too if yours needs refurbishment which I like
>>
>>97860697
Dudes don't need nice butts
>>
>>97860704
Not really. It's doable, but it's not that comfy. Aerons are designed specifically for optimal, healthy way of sitting, which means feet on the ground.

>>97860709
Yeah, you can fix most of the chair yourself, there are even tutorials.

Honestly not spraying through the nozzle is a meme. Just do it after the initial backflush.
>>
>>97860949
that's a clean break, should not be difficult to fix

clean the cup so it has no more paint, fill it with water and a bit of ipa and spray it out completely while rocking the trigger, that should be clean enough to change color

>>
>>97860988
Stop being a bitch ass nigga that folds from a simplest failure.
Also, a lot of bigger hobby and art stores (occasionally scale modeller shops and even Warhammer shops) organize airbrush classes regularly. Literally fucking take one, they will be organized by someone who has been airbrushing for ages, and have seen all kinds of retardation and fuckery. Take that class, and fix shit once and for all. You are like 90% there, you just need to deal with that one retarded thing that's stopping you.

As for the broken print, just glue the bitch back and fill the gaps. Twenty minutes at most.
>>
>>97860988
I'm gonna be real with you anon I'm getting real tired of your posts. We're not building processors from scratch in this hobby or anything. >>

Warming back up since its been a bit, painting one of my test marines as an imperial fist.
>>
>>97861128
Anon, are you using a wet palette with oils?
>>
>>97861166
Just the case to help keep the palette steady and my desk somewhat clean. The palette is a piece of corrugated cardboard with a piece of parchment paper tacked down with a few drops of elmers glue.
>>
>>97861199
Why not just use plain cardboard like everyone else? It helps to get rid of the linseed oil, too.
>>
>>97860949
Pin it, glue it, done.
>>
>>97861210
1. Cardboard still absorbs the excess oil through the parchment paper.
2. Thinned oils won't dry out as quickly so I don't need to constantly thin while working with them. Once I get it the right consistency they stay that way for a while.
3. I can reuse the same piece of cardboard two or three times, just peel the parchment paper off and tack a new piece down with some elmers glue.
4. Since the paint doesn't dry as quickly I can cover the tray with some foil and pop it into the freezer to save the paints for another day, massively slows the dry time. Take it out about 20 minutes before to warm back up and I'm good to go, good for if I need to take a break I can go back to the still wet mini the following day and finish up while keeping my mixes workable.
Little things I've figured out while playing around with them.

My wife got me these MDF racks for Christmas one year. They're great for organizing my paints; my only wish is that I had a better way of identifying exactly which colour is which. Because I am seated and as tall as I am, I can only see the tops of the bottles on the lower tiers of the racks.

I should try labeling the tops, maybe at first with cheap round "garage sale" stickers, but ideally I'd like to paint something on the top of each one for "at-a-glance" identification.

I always stand when I'm painting, I just find it more comfortable. I'm also quite shaky and I find standing makes it easier to get a stable painting position.

Spend five minutes every day lifting light weights above your head and doing squats first thing in the morning in addition to getting a good chair. It's made the biggest difference for me and is a habit that will see you through into your old age with much more comfort

Thanks. I've decided not to ruin it with my normal dump of tea leaves and oregano, so am now going to have to figure out painting dirt and woodland undergrowth stuff, or maybe river bank with some water effects on the bottom edge. The polystyrene has some okay texture in places but the areas were I built extra rocks and ridges especially need work.

any UK advice for sci-fi or shape stencils?

Got some Stargrave type vehicles and terrain and would be nice to add some like 5mm tall "logos" that are like ⦀●⦀◈ generic logo type shit, a bit like the Votann transfers.

That's a very cool challenge and I think you did a good job so far. Are you allowed to mix paints? I feel like adding some pink to your skin tone would make it look a lot better.

Actually I did managed to glue her back in but since I acted like some autistic kid in fit of rage, I simply didn't posted results when she was back in one piece. Sort of one piece since sword handle was not yet glued back, due to how thin it is and impossible to pin. Likewise added some weights to her "base" to prevent future accidents since she is, as you can see, rather unstable. I wonder if people, who prepare models for 3D printing take these problems into consideration at all.

I must also say that, despite my problems with cleaning (at least I know it's cleaning since spraying itself work just fine - then again, I thinner it really significantly, easily 3:1 thinner:paint, there were some grainy effects on paper so maybe it does separate at this point, AK acrylics by the way), I'm honestly surprised by how precise airbrush can be. Even with my obvious lack of skills, I could pinpoint lightly colored underclothes with minimal spraying around and avoiding staining red cloak. Granted, my only experience previously was Chinese model that sprayed rather wide but still. Maybe that Evolution was not expensive waste of money after all.
>>
>>97865541
I would get a disc of wood painted black and attach the model to that for added stability.
>>
>>97865541
She's gonna be a brown tomboy, right?
>>
>>97865541
>Maybe that Evolution was not expensive waste of money after all.
Of course it wasn't my nigga. Evolution is a fantastic airbrush, and one that can do hairline spraying with no issue. You'll only get better with it, if you keep practicing.
protip: Get a piece of thiccer paper (or old credit card or something similar), you can use it to shield/cover parts of the model to shade stuff.

The inside of her base piece is empty and have round opening so there is a lot of space for anything heavy. But wood piece is indeed good idea in such case.

>>97865575
Her "preview" on store page, CGI, have her rather bright skin but Casca on official art is a "chocolate" so I will try to make her properly darker. I might fail, however, skin painting is still my problem.
>>
>>97865584
>>97865580
Before getting serious training, I must figure out that cleaning problem. Since spraying itself works fine and problem arise when I clean for color change, it must be result of leftover paint accumulation between cup and the tip. I located two shops in my city where I can try to seek advice, one apparently ran by some grandpa that also paints on place (likely walking encyclopedia of knowledge) and another mentioning some painting classes on their page (might be outdated info but likely someone from the staff could help).
>>
>>97865538

>one apparently ran by some grandpa that also paints on place
Those are generally the best kind of people to ask. They are oftentimes just happy to talk about the craft, casually giving you a trove of knowledge that others gatekeep behind patreonwall. Also, if he's doing classic art with the airbrush, he might give you some good advice on art airbrush paints, some brands are supposedly excellent (like Schmincke Aero) and mogg the fuck the hobby ones.
>clean for color change
I generally pour out the paint > squirt water inside from a bottle until only mostly clean water comes out (I have a bottle with an applicator, but bottles for ketchup will also do) > pour full cup of the water > backbrap > pour the dirty water out > repeat > another full cup > spray it all out through airbrush > put in new paint.

community event where a dude makes a strawpoll with a bunch of options for a general theme that is left to interpretation, and everyone votes on it, so for example february was big guns, and march was big stick. at the end of the month, everyone votes on the next theme and posts their submissions, and all the pics are placed into one big image. its honestly pretty fun, and I’d suggest checking it out just for the challenge of it. as for the current theme, its currently either space wolves getting annihilated or using warhammer crucible champion rules to kitbash a character. usually there aren’t two options, but the reason its unusual is because there’s a bit of drama going on in /40kg/ because there’s a guy there who plays space wolves that has been really horrible to deal with to the point he was banned from the collage, and he’s been getting worse. at one point, an anon made a kitbash of his terminator captain standing over a dead space wolf as a joke which caused the guy to meltdown, so the guy who leads the collage made “space wolves getting destroyed” as an option for laughs, and it ended up getting first place, but it was brought up that some people might not own space marine bits to make dead space wolves with, or might not want to join in on the drama, so it was decided you could have a choice in either one.

>>
>>97865328
I don't have any pictures but I've had mild success by layering masking tape and cutting out shapes. You'll want to do it in layers so that you have multiple pieces of the same size in case they rip. Also using a hole punch creates a nice circle stencil.
>>
>>97865975
Kinda reminds me of somewhat similar drama on /m/ gunpla thread and their "group builds", also an event where everyone have ~3 months to prepare custom/kitbash/scratchbuild project on shared theme. At one point some guy(s) started to "police" the thread about what can and what cannot be posted, including "plastic girls" kits, even bullied one active and talented poster, all with this whole "we must gatekeep the thread" attitude. At some point people voted for "mecha musume" theme just to shut those fuckers up and as a big middle finger. It resulted in them losing their shit, few times attempted to spam thread and whole board with NSFW/guro images but gave up at the end.
