>PC: "We go to Rovengarde."
>GM: "Okay, you're in Rovengarde, what do you see?"
>PC: "Uhhh, some guards, maybe? Outside the gate?"
>GM: "Okay, there are guards outside the gate. What do they say to you?"
>PC: "Dude what the fuck?"
>GM: "That's a weird thing for guards to ask unprompted, what happens next?"
>PC: "We go into Rovengarde."
>GM: "Okay, you're inside Rovengarde. What kind of shops, taverns, and nobility does it have?"

>Entire session keeps up like this
>Player cannot believe the level of freedom
>Continue to narrate increasingly insane things, trying to see if there is a limit to the GMs permittance
>There isn't
>The players exist as gods in a fantastical world, with the PCs as their avatars
>All things become dull, as all challenge becomes moot
>The players, even under their own will cannot provide meaningful challenge for themselves without a meaningful degree of separation between themselves and the overseeing arbiter
>Lacking challenge, they turn on each other
>One last battle, to tear down a beige reality where infinite mutability has destroyed meaning
>Reality falls apart, PCs destroyed by mutual compact to resolve the game without IRL conflict
>GM insists on one last session
>'Now that you've gotten all that shit out of your system, lets start the campaign'

There's a hot blonde elf princess who marries my human fighter
>>
>>97861612
You could use that as the cosmogony for the actual campaign
>>97861645
Okay, sensible chuckle.

Do this with descriptions for NPCs and maybe some home base type place. Then make the players protect it. Instant investment. Use sparingly.

>>
>>97864372
He doesn't need them because he's not a slut unlike the rest of you mortal humanoids
>>
>>97864402
Oh so you're saying it's fine for immortal humanoids to be sluts then?

You don't know what agency means? Unfortunate.
>>
>>97865466
Agency means players do whatever they want, get whatever they want, and never face any challenge, strife, or difficulty
>>
>>97861387
I would give the world to have a party so good that we could share the load of setting up the world and NPCs. I have seen this in action, and it was amazing. I have tried making suggestions to GMs, but they usually shoot me down in principle, no matter how little they actually care about fleshing out their worlds.
>>
>>97865466
Agency is what you get when you centralise your intelligence.
