Oh yeah? And what's the price on this handsome mug up to now? Just curious.

Really? A showdown at high noon? Or I guess midnight in this case. How stereotypically Texan can you get? Ha!

Sorry, hombre, but only a sucker walks into a throwdown on his enemy's terms. If you want me, you're gonna have to work for it.

Besides, I'm more of a knife fight kind of guy anyways. I can still leave you the keys to your French whore's place if want though.

Chinese literature: too many classics to list: Shījīng, Dàodéjīng, Huáinánzǐ, Hánfēizǐ, Sānguó Yǎnyì...
Hindu literature: Mukhya Upaniṣads, particularly Bṛhadāraṇyak, Chāndogya, Māṇḍūkya, Taittirīya
Buddhist literature: Milinda-pañha (Questions of Menander), Prajñāpāramita-Hṛdayam Sūtra (Heart Sūtra).
Various Ancient Egyptian funerary texts.
The fragments of the Presocratic philosophers.
Plato's writings, especially the Phaedo, Symposium and Republic.
Plotinus' Enneads.
Corpus Hermeticum.
Bible, particularly the sapiential books of the Old Testament and Johannine literature of the New Testament.

I'm willfully excluding books by and for Cainites and other occult literature that aren't accessible to kine learning institutions, as I wouldn't call them media.

I'm also excluding a millennium of Japanese poetry anthologies since the Kokin Wakashū. But instead of a classic collection, my first recommendation for an English reader would actually be Japanese Death Poems: Written by Zen Monks and Haiku Poets on the Verge of Death, compiled and translated by Yoel Hoffmann.
I must point out that haiku as they are known today became popular as standalone poems a few decades after my embrace, and this name is a 19th century invention, they used to be called hokku (発句).

As translated by Hoffman:

Life is like a cloud of mist
Emerging from a mountain cave,
And death
A floating moon
In its celestial course.
If you think too much
About the meaning they may have,
You'll be bound forever
Like an ass to a stake.

Travel log #14 [ Memphis, Tennessee ]-[*5/10 ]
>>>>>Pros
> This is a town where you can fuck up and people won't notice
> Even if the train networks on the continent aren't what they used to be this is still a safe centre to travel through
> Outside threats seem mostly focused on other things, so for once, the Blood around here slips under the radar
>>>>>Cons
> The Prince of Memphis is probably the most dangerous Toreador I've ever seen and tolerates no carpetbaggers or nomads
> Her sheriff is also the kind of person who'd make some of you blush in terms of raw cruelty
> For some fucking reason the First US civil war is being fought here among rival cliques between high and low clanns

Weird town, not for any of us. Did meet up with some old friends however. Hatshepsup and Hippy seem to have set themselves up well enough, even if the former hates the Bass-Pro abomination and the latter is still absolutely depressed about losing everything in Marquette. Most of us who survived didn't have large networks, but Hippy basically had a whole congregation of naturalists and pot-boys running her operation. Still a long way from recovered, but her sitting down with Mèo and our new companion did her some good. Left out some of the tribulations we've gone through recently.

We are still being followed and the creep who did it last night basically spent an hour atop an eighteen wheeler. Creepy as sin.

I've got a special place in my heart for 'Day of the Triffids' as a rip-off radio drama. Back in... God was it 58 or 59? Can't remember.
It was there for me for a nasty hide-out in a farm's attic. I can still recite lines from Dr. Voreles.

Hiiiiiiii, sorry for the delays, we are currently trying to not go back to the fucking stone age here! Everything that uses electricity now has a penchant for being haunted, short-circuiting and so on, and there's that fucking aurora in the sky, sometimes, but only if you look right and only from very specific angles. It's definitely not a regular electricity thing, and one of those mangy pizza-eating wolves is eyefucking our electronics while looking very, very worried. Not offering to help, Heaven forbid they do that. Betting ten bucks on that it's the Goriatrix tribe, or whatever I scryed for, sending a hello in a novel and annoying, yet not excessively harmful way. Theeen like five bucks on that it's something more caern-related, and maybe three on that it's a problem outside of our usual context.

It sure can't stop me from scrying though!

So, the creep. I'll go for three basic questions, and then let you ask further ones and let me scry for them, that'd be the most practical method.

>What is the creep's nature?
The Magician - Upright. Resourcefulness; skill; willpower. Praying it isn't literally what the card depicts, they're the worst.
>Why is the creep after the H0Trio?
Page of Wands - Upright. Creative spark; new beginnings; exploration.
>There's many paths - confrontation, avoidance, seeking outside assistance, bribery, trickery. Which way to go? Is there even a best way?
Six of Wands - Reversed. Unrewarded efforts; fall from grace; insecurity due to overreliance on outside assurance and not on internal clarity.

Cards are feeling Somewhat Fucky still, after my Goriscrying, so tread carefully.

No worries. Also, if that's who I think it is tell him that the boys in San Francisco expect him to help PROACTIVELY. Because god knows we all need to actually get over our hang-ups.

I was told of the 2008 incident. I'm not afraid to share it if need be.

This thing is creepy sister, it's pretty focused on me and if it wanted the kill it would have gone for it after the attack. Pulled stuff on Gün I've never seen and it SMELLS like my bloodline but... Off. Weird like. Closer to the un-things that congregate around the Caern but distinct from them.

Could you ask the mistress of the library for information on bloodlines related to Gangs like me? My knowledge base is a lot of circumstantial stuff and filled with hearsay from old farts and I've neglected some of that research.

so just came out of a long sleep. My human gf was working for the cammies sense before I met her. I thought working at a blood bank and her liking me were just luck but no. My regent never trusted me and put her on me like a collar thinking I'd go rabid or some shit. I don't know why she covered for me or hell if she covered for me when I got hit by a car but she fucking sold me out. I never drank from somebody and she was told I had a time limit and if I didn't hit I'd be forced. She told me when I woke up in a cage with a homeless guy I was friends with. He knew about vampires and was apart of some group called the union or unit I couldn't make out what they were saying at first but he was handcuffed and he kept saying you don't have to do this but I hadn't had a bag in a month. I was so hungry. I let it win. They let me out and she drove me home telling me I did good I protected the masquerade but they won't let me see my dogs until I drink from someone else with her reporting on me. Pray for me for all the good that does. God i hope they aren't monitoring this phone

>Could you ask the mistress of the library for information on bloodlines related to Gangs like me? My knowledge base is a lot of circumstantial stuff and filled with hearsay from old farts and I've neglected some of that research.
I've gone to check since the Mistress of the Library™ is feeling extra iffy about electronics and wouldn't go online to tell you stuff herself, and HSE is barred from the place following a recent incident involving a phone going on fire.
From what we can see thus far, there's a lot of very shallow and poorly-developed stuff, mostly footnotes, myths and third-grade information piled on with the cohesiveness of a hoarder getting things just because. Like, I'm right now looking at two profiles, from the same book, which seem to describe basically the same fucking thing, a watery Gangrel, except there's minor cosmetic differences between the two, so they're filed as two distinct bloodlines.
Just on a glance:
>two water Gangrels, with one extra deep-sea Gangrel recorded in an instance where carcass was fished out by a commercial vessel, woke up, proceeded to eat everybody aboard, excluding the fish, broke the ship hull apart, and sunk with it, with this incident only being recorded thanks to compromised cameras aboard (Nossie agents of some dipshit Ventrue were trying to snoop on workers of on of his shell businesses, or whatever, and the tape got sold and re-sold five times before my Sire got it)
>A variety of Gangrel for every combo of climate and human habitation style
>Druids?
>Druids but Norse, for some reason?
>Norse Gangs, but not druidic??
>Four different pre-Columbian North American varieties???
>Doggerland Gangs, supposedly?????
>'Hybrasil survivors'?????
>'DROGEO DEVOURERS'???
So, uh, anything specific you want us to try and dig up?

To be fair, a lot of that's the experience in-clan. it took me being scholarly for decades (egh time flies) to get the information I have now sorted. I should write a paper at some point on my pre-columbus cousins, but I digress.

I got shot tonight but it wasn't so bad! I was me and J and R in a truck out in Angeles Forest. Apparently someone else had been hunting there for a couple weeks and they weren't drinking but instead just stabbing people and leaving them by the road. This is a dumping ground for my boss so this couldn't stand. They wanted us to find him and go wild. I found him in a tent 10 minutes off the road in a tent laughing at a piece of flesh (gross). I thought I had the drop on him but he turned on me and shot me in the chest with a glock. It sucked but not as much as I did >:). Didn't even drain him! I kept the beast (i hate giving it a name) in check. We tossed him in the back of the truck and took him back to LA to the deputy. He said I did good finding the guy and I got to see my dogs again. Things are good! My buddies from the help group even reached out to make sure I'm doing ok. Thanks guys.

This reminds me of a story from five years ago.

There was this influencer who built his fame by combating scammers. His modus operandi with alleged mediums was pretending to have recently lost his mother and seeking a way to contact her in the afterlife - only to reveal that the mother was still alive by videocalling her in front of the camera and the medium's face.

A young man from the main Family was his next target and asked a disciple of mine for advice, and the disciple asked me in turn. The advice was: "Do the session as scheduled, put on a mask, don't blink, close your eyes for at least a second if you must, do not laugh, my associates will take care of the rest." You will never guess what happened next! Can you believe the influencer's mother went to the Other Side right before the session started? How very unfortunate - but it makes for good content, doesn't it?

If you overhear a fledgling or neonate from the Clan of Death saying: "I'm dead, you idiot!", "Answer the damn phone!", "The hospital is calling you!", or "What are you doing!? Tell the rest of the family!" and giggling like a schoolgirl, mostly when using the phone, this is the reason.

Those are all "memes", as my spirit slaves call them, from this fiasco.

Shortly after, we found out a Malkavian gave the influencer our youngster's contact information, and since we had so much fun with this practical joke of his, we returned the favor by sending his soul to the nearest Rossellini camp next to mother and son, that he may offer his condolences.

Accidents? None really. If I'm pissed off I set out to drink em dry, otherwise I restrain myself. I think it's cuz of tge way my Sire gave me my first meal. God, I'll never forget that...

So the Horseman was all theatrical about my Embrace. Burries me in a shallow grave (symbolisim, I think) and there's a raging thunderstorm to boot. I dig my way out, no clue I'm already dead. Wearing nothing but mud and rain (cuz babies are born naked, i guess...?) And a bolt.of ligutning shows me the biggest motherfucker I've seen in person on the biggest horse I've seen and while my mind is trying to decide if it shpuld try and make sense of all this or if it should just give up and break down now the Horseman scoops me up with one hand and takes off riding at full gallop.

I think he was hitting full force with his Majesty, because I never even thought about trying to fight my free, even though I had no idea who he was or qhat was hapening. Hell, I didn't even wonder about feeling so damn cold; I was wet and naked on a galloping horse!

Anyway, we get to the Horsemans ranch, I meekly follow him inside, and tge first thing I see is a naked dude tied to a chair and gagged. Horseman walks up ro the guy, lifts a fancy silver table knife, and lightly pricks tge guys throat whike he's struggling and screaming into the gag.

Seeing, smelling that one drop of blood...oh God. That little sparkling ruby. I didn't know it at the time but I full on Hunger Frenzied. I tackled that poor guy to the floor, straddled him...and ripped his throat out. It was MESSY. And because of the Kiss, even as he knew I was killing him, he had a raging hard on the whole time. Even came before he died.

I've NEVER let myself lose control to my Hunger since. Not after that shit.

And the curse of Malkav takes many forms. I'm very familiar with my Cat's condition, and it is why I tolerate the Blood Bond woith her.
>>
>>97892853
Sure, I kill for kicks. Or because I'm hungry. Or because I'm angry. Or because I'm annoyed. Or as part of the Sabbat's mission. Or as part of my experiments to find where exactly the soul resides in a body. Or for any number of reasons, each as equally valid as any other. We're killers, it's in our nature. I'm comfortable with that fact. Are you?

Since we're sharing with the class, how about you, H0T? When did your heart stop beating, and what drives you to kill?
>>
>>97892898
>When did your heart stop beating, and what drives you to kill?
Ironic...

I was mauled back when the Great War was being fought I'll admit, the specific year is fuzzy. Either 16 or 17.

We are predators and haemovores. At the end of the day all that is required of us is blood. When I hunt I hunt for sustenance, mine own or others. The same reason people hunted back before the bite. Except I did not have weapons when I started, I was hurling myself at deer and moose like a wolf does.

Nature kept me and humbled me. Still does. I return the favour more literally.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to flog one of my upstart cousins because he has decided to wage a rodent-corvid-child war.
>>
ATTENTION YOU MISERABLE DIRTY-NECK-SUCKERS AND BENDY BACKED HARLOTS
I HAVE ESCAPED THE CABOOSE

I'll admit I didn't think I'd get this far and as I've wiped out the fridge (REPULSIVE VILE SWILL so glad there was an excess or I wouldn't be able to think straight) I must I am at a bit of a loss. The foul servant of the Loupines and her thralls have, for the time being departed, this vehicle and I do not have the keys. Currently it is daylight, and I do not have a means to escape without being annihilated by the power of Sol Invictus.

Please advise. I am certain the VILE and DUPLICITOUS House of Tremere want me dead. No doubt also the TREACHEROUS AND STUPID AND ARROGANT House of Goratrix... Also probably want me dead.

Man I just want cool Sorcery powers and all I got is poo poo garbage
Bullshit.

Sounds to me like even after a century, you haven't faced the reality of who and what you are, sister. You're just deluding yourself about your true nature. We are born of murder; killing runs in our blood. No need to be ashamed of acting in our nature, now is there?

To illustrate my point: you have a trapped Tremere in your care right now. What happened to his friends, huh? You didn't let them off with a light scolding, now did you? Suppose you and I were to cross paths tomorrow night, what would you do then? Nothing pleasant for me, I imagine.

>>97894011
I hate to be the bearer of bad new buddy, but your future is outside of your hands, unless you can figure out how to hotwire a car real quick. Silver lining is that they probably don't intend to kill you, or you'd already be dead. Try begging to be dropped off in the next town.

No shit. When you're held together by the threat of bloodbonding, being bloodbound, or threatening your brothers and sisters with camarilla political plays there is almost NOTHING for you. And I'm still just- WAITING FOR THE MAGIC ANY DAY NOW. God what a joke of a vampire lineage.

And no comments from my Sire. Aside from the fact that as far as I know his vocal chords got cut when he was still mortal (wicked throat scar) he's only ever communicated in writing, or one of his Pack mates tells me what he wants to say. I'm pretty sure, though, he wanted me to figure out what he was trying to teach me in my own instead of regurgitating rote memorization in command.

I was dragged into the house of Goratrix because they are ILLITERATE TO ALL ZONING LAWS OF THE KINE AND BASIC FUCKING MATHEMATICS! I was strung along constantly with the promises of power- yet never receiving it- despite my higher Blood standing than some of my koala-minded 'siblings.'

Gave those bastards the best years of my unlife and they go invoking actual Loupine retribution. I had to sneak through the floors and steal keys to acquire my current knowledge-base. They did not even permit me tuition on the Domination and the Auspex, and threatened me often should I fail as their legal warrior.

Alas. While I was able to liberate such knowledge thanks to their inadequacies, I have not had much time to apply it.

Also yes Florida is very flat but the swamp hides that fact.

There is no 'WE' in any house of Tremere I can say for certain, but there is a 'MINE-MINE-MINE' of whoever sired you.

All derives from the arrogance of Goratrix and Tremere however, and considering the literary one-handed-symphony they so often produced... That is believable. Tracking with the pattern of 'rehabilitating' the Gifts of the 'low-graced and spiritually desolate' clans. Even now, the House of Goratrix detest the Tzimsce, as much as the Gangrel, Ravnos, and Nosforatu.

The million metaphorical paper-cuts I've endured since my embrace have given me no love of the Antribu, nor the original House of Tremere who seem to replace sadism with control issues. Which is why I have decided to peel myself away from the idiocy of the Tribu and Antribu and climb atop a mountain.

AND I WILL SHOOT LIGHTNING AT WHOEVER APPROACHES MY DOMAIN

Just need to figure out the lightning first. Preferably in a way where I don't need to raid a chantry or kidnap someone.

A neonate was called for an exorcism in Nicaragua for one of the most common complaints by clients: spooky night noises. An ancilla noted there were similar requests from nearby towns, except the complaints were describing the noises as "growls" and other animal sounds.

Sometimes Cainites of the Clan of Death are called to exorcise things that aren't ghosts, and we'll happily take care of your stray animal or kine madman - as long as the reward is the same.

Eventually local urban legends about a "man-jaguar" haunting the night reached our neonate... Afraid of being ripped in half by some species of urban shapeshifter, she implored me to take over the investigation.

We may have discovered a possible kernel of truth behind the legend: not a fera but a fellow Cainite, buried, naked and drained.

I gave him a sip from my wrist, and in those few instants before I slid a stake in his ventricle, he resisted mind control and easily kicked away the boulder we placed on his legs.

Two more nights and I'll have a civil conversation with this new friend, he looks European.

> The new 'Baron' is a of the East is a lunatic and I say that as someone who is nominally his ally

What a circus. I can't complain but fuck me the things I do for favours. Can't in good faith recommend this place to anyone unless they're desperate or a nasty combination of ambitious and stupid.

His 'friends' thought they could attack and kill whoever they pleased, and were paid in turn. Our Serendipitous Sorcerer the only one who was wise enough to realize he could not win. And yielded. And for that reason he has opportunities when this trip ends.

There is a reason likewise I suggested we stay away from one another.

Odd. But there is potential in him.

>>
>>97899056
>European? From whereabouts?
Looks southern but not swarthy, he'd pass as a Ventrue or Lasombra. Definitely not the phenotype I'd expect after chasing rumors of a jaguar prowling a city in Central America.
He'll tell me after two nights, once he's blood bound to me, and fed, in this order. Until then he gets nothing but a sip of my vitae and the stake each night. I wonder how many of the Cainites exchanging messages here would just try and Diablerize him instead, and how many of those would win the ensuing battle of wills. Next time I won't try my luck with eye contact.
>>
>>97899056
>Grenades though? Those have their time and place.

The time is always. The place is the prison pocket of the fucker anoying the shit out of you. I ran into a mad bomber malk that was in the IRA back in the 80's before she got turned. Taught me some things. Turns out I've got a knack for it. And explosions are fun.

>>97899296
>and how many of those would win the ensuing battle of wills.
That's just an old wives' tale elders use to scare fledglings. The only thing that happens upon devouring the soul is a transfer of power and the ultimate feeling of euphoria. Kinda like a Highlander Quickening now that I think about it.

second time. As soon as I took off the stake, he instinctively seized my arm with both hands. I told him to forgive me as I'm saving his life in Castellano, though I'm not completely convinced whether he understood everything, his grip relented.

Either way, once again I'm impressed with his strength, and now self-control as well. I slid the stake through his ribs again, of course.

My living associates will provide some clothes while my Dead one, Polyglot Girl, is looking up local Mesoamerican languages.

Only exception is hippos. Terrifying creatures, they.

For more serious matters, I know Nicaragua has a litany of dead native languages, but was interconnected with the Mayan world at points. Highland Mayan, Sumu and Qarif should be considered in your search. Miskito is so changed by arrival influence it probably should be considered last.

Third night of Blood Bonding my amnesiac shapeshifter jaguar Cainite. I artfully tied up his dinner, it was fairly gruesome, we had to wash him with a hose before dressing him up. I thought jaguars liked water.

Smoking Mirror: "You must have questions, I have few answers: my memories were tampered with. I can't even remember my own name."
Spider Lily: "English, very convenient. Name the current pope."
Mirror: "Bergoglio."
Lily: "Close."
Mirror: "Do you know why I was underground?"
Lily: "What I do know is that people put bodies down there to preserve them - as opposed to destroy them - that would be the good news. The bad news is that whoever- whatever did this could do it again, to both of us."
Mirror: "So we aren't safe?"
Lily: "We leave a decoy, I fix your hair and... 'makeup', then we go home."
Mirror: "Define 'home.'"
Lily: "Home is The City Where We Won't Have To Run Anymore, Canada. If you can't give me answers, give me a riddle."
Mirror: "What am I?"
Lily: "A Tlacique, perchance?"
Mirror: "Who are you?"
Lily: "[Spider Lily], you savior. I baptize thee [Smoking Mirror]. We have no time. Come."

We went to collect the reward for exorcising the nightly noises, but our Assamite client made some disingenuous remarks about my yukata. Smoking Mirror held him by the scruff like a kitten and said: "The lady wears what she pleases, goes where she pleases, and she is your Allah now." Those slums had no concept of Masquerade. I had my Kitsune Delirium Mask on the side of my head.

We had a smaller incident later at the airport.

Staff: "Mr., uh... Tecuani, are you vaccinated against yellow fever?"
Smoking Mirror: "I beg. Your. Pardon."
Spider Lily: "Señolita, al you vaccinated against fifty dollals, Amelican?"
Staff: "Enjoy your journey!"

We will! 然らばじゃ, Nicaragua!

The oldest Cainites did not live that long because they informed everyone they can read minds, they let those around them act spontaneously.
Suppose he only spoke Nahuatl. He'd be unable to gain knowledge from something as simple as a road sign. So I thought I'd try talking to him the easy way.
The Clan of Death's secret power is talking to people - not just the Dead, but those living and undead, too. It's how the Giovanni got the Promise of 1528 out of the Camarilla, and remained Independent after their Antediluvian was Diablerized.

He'll pull a swatting on the house, trying to pin Chelys and Necro down with an armed police response while he uses Obfuscate and Dementation to cause chaos before he bolts. If he needs to defend himself, he'll try to use Dominate and his new found powers of Presence and Serpentis to hold Chelys and Necro off until he can find an opportunity to escape using Celerity.
Janus's current spread of Disciplines is: Auspex 1, Celerity 1, Dementation 3, Dominate 1, Obfuscate 2, Potence 1, Presence 2, Protean 1, and Serpentis 3.

Well you son of a bitch, you made a mess of things. I just wanted to skin you and make you into a lamp that’s all. Instead you try and frame me and Necro for the murder of a family. Hope you enjoy the hand you gave me though. I’m gonna make good use of it, I tell you what.

I applaud the decorations though, it was passing work. Poor taste in using children though, personal withholdings aside, it’s a bad hunter who kills the young before they’ve ripened.

You got away tonight. Next time you will not be as fortunate.

GAAAAAH IT WAS JUST A DROP FOR A RITUAL

WHY IS SMOKING MIRROR'S VITAE SO GOOD

WHY DO YOU HAVE THE AFTERTASTE OF MARACUJÁ YOU WHITE DEVIL
>>
Well... anyway, Smoking Mirror is a series of contradictions:
he's an European but he turns into an American animal;
he hates the light and reptiles equally;
he's one fewer generation removed from Caine than me yet better with contemporary technology;
he was found outside of the historical territory of the Nahua but he speaks Nahuatl "as well as a native", according to my spirit slave.
and I think I'm only scratching the surface.

What began as a game between him and Polyglot Girl turned into a series of "translations" for blood sorcery powers that Smoking Mirror claims were developed by the Nahua:
Flower of the Divine Liquor = POTESTAS VITAE
Huehueteotl’s Glory = CREATIO IGNIS
Red Hand of Tezcalipoca = POTESTAS MOTVS
Gifts of Xipetotec = CREATIO MATERIAE
Capturing the Enemy Within = VIA MENTIS INTENTAE
Way of the Jaguar Warrior = VIA MARTIS
Wisdom of the Sacred Jungles = VIA HERBARVM
Rites of Tezcalipoca = REGO SPIRITVS
Breath of Quetzalcoatl = POTESTAS TEMPESTATVM
Secret Ways of Tezcatlipoca = REGO CORRVPTIO
Calling the Teotl = POTESTAS ELEMENTORVM

This isn't the sort of thing you'd think the Nahua would share with a Spaniard.
How did the Nahua sorcerers know all of this? And how did HE come to know all of this?
How fascinating indeed, the more I learn about or from this Cainite, the greater the next mystery.

Well this one is interesting at least. Malkavian or just touched I wonder. Probably best as a reminder not to dabble in magic for everyone who was too stupid to get that lesson the first time around. That said, the forecasts seem relatively well connected to the thread.

Could be the pack hunting Quicksilver but honestly three comes up so often in this sort of talk its mostly useless.

That one seems to be you Quickie. I'm not an expert at magical bullshit but generally giving big hunks of yourself to strangers is frowned upon I believe?
>Your Future Inescapable
So it goes.

Julian has gone to some godforsaken sporting event, it's easy feeding for the most part and he does his roll quite aptly but in an interesting development, the Hunter was still standing at the fence as the sun came down.

I played a little dress up, and sure enough Julian's Father came down to the fence to meet him. It was awkward and pausing, I doubt either of us learned a lot but it was good to inspect the man up close.
>>
>>97915829
>Malkavian or just touched I wonder.
She's Malkavian, same as me. I'd say she's a lot more "in touch" with the family than I am.

>That one seems to be you Quickie. I'm not an expert at magical bullshit but generally giving big hunks of yourself to strangers is frowned upon I believe?
Wizard types always think they're the hottest shit around, right up until they get a reality check: you can die, same as anyone else, if someone is determined enough. All that fancy, egyptian hocus pocus couldn't save the snake from my pack; and all his flashy mumbo jumbo hasn't brought the Texan any closer to putting me down either!

While I've post both of my characters' sheets, complete with xp breakdowns, at the end of the day every ShreckNet poster is their own storyteller so their characters can have as much xp with whatever justification they want. Chelys isn't even a remotely "legal" modern nights character, for example. I'm not throwing shade mind you, he was quite clear about the theme for his character in the previous /shreck/ incarnation: what happens when someone is given way too much power before they're ready for it.
In my particular case, since both characters were converted from different rule systems (Requiem then V5 for Bleu, MET for Janus) I just gave them 1.75 xp for every year since their Embrace. I gave Bleu some extra xp awards whenever something significant happened in these threads, and Janus used the diablerie rules from Black Hand when he ate her.
>>
>>97917283
>he's a malk too
Well Explains a little at least.

I got you, I do think that 1-2 Xp per year since embrace is a good byline for the 'actually yeah we need rules for advanced characters bit'. As for the magicians I don't particularly have it out for them

I have to admit, Boy Toy and his wretched state of affairs has piqued my interest. I don't suppose you would entertain an attempt to purchase him outright? While I'm sure currency is of limited use would raw bullion be of any interest. Surely getting a new portfolio funded would only be in your interest (even if only marginal overall to you) where Boy Toy seems to be mostly an inconvenience for you.I do keep a variety of other trade goods but I'm not sure what you consider valueably really. I have to admit I do very limited trade in art, but I do have some certifiably ghost cursed coal if that interests you, I'm not a magician but I'm pretty sure its full of poltergeists, it reliably burns at temperatures above that of coke by a third or more. Guy I bought it from called it ghostrock originally enough, powered turbines and at one point a Steel Foundry with it. I can reliably get a hold of industrial amounts of it, if your interested.

Have any of you ever encountered a Tzimisce that incorporates plant material into their abominations? I recently stumbled upon a small island village overrun with strange flowers that smelled of rot and reached out for the living with tendrils. There were strange husks that appeared to once be human as well and were full of worms and the same tendrils from the flowers. What really got me was the giant patchwork creature made from multiple of the husks all patched together. It was roughly the size of a small shed.

First, if Vicissitude can make people look like furniture, it can make them look like plants, or parts of plants, and the like.
Second, don't forget witches and fae.
Third, yes, plants can become ghouls, I've seen it in Africa when I was with the Ghiberti, who nicknamed those mandragoras/mandragola/mandrakes. Caine knows what else those exotic vampires can do, and what vampiric vitae can do to a single plant over centuries.

It varies, I kind of would like to run a fledgling with a shank but I operate on physical rules and I kind of want to avoid burning more sheets. Might do it when the Janus hunt ends and I can let this old goon retire with his new Hyena, if he makes it. Also. Fun fact about Necrophage, he had two 'siblings' who didn't make it when I was rolling for a monster, one of whom died getting his shit rocked in Alaska by hunters, while the other went full wight after dropping humanity six consecutive times in a rotten cascade failure. She's still in torpor under Oklahoma.

>>97917283
I stick to V20 as a rule but I get you. It's good to have a nice spread of 'types' for the thread. Personally I vary on xp gain because Mongoose ruined me and I 'enjoy' danger. I do a range with risk option, max of 3 with the possibility of -1, with options for multiplicatives. I'd say I like the process but losing the gamble enough times put me in dormancy, until recently anyways.
RIP British Columbia Freddy Kruger, you never stood a chance.

An un-thing, most likely. They teem in the Appalachias. The mountains are ancient. Such age begets strength, strength begets crowns, and crowns beget authority and presence.
You would probably be better off not seeing the 'grandfather' with the power of Auspex, when it visits you. If they simply scare you, that's okay. That's them playing their role. Putting you in your place, reminding you that long before mankind was split into prey and predators, we were all prey. They're playing at that old and lost time. But if you come to know what they truly are, they will not play with you any longer. You do not want that.

I set up a temporary haven with some blood sorcery in the greenery near our destination. I assumed the form of the jaguar to explore for a while. Spider Lily couldn't help herself and scratched me behind the ears, on the chin and and near the base of the tail. Those long fingers really rub me the right way. I took her for a ride at my typical speed. She sat on my back and had both legs on my left side, an old-fashioned, very womanly side-saddle, a technique developed so that women could ride without having to wear pants or open their legs.

She's slightly taller than me due to those long bones. A skin pale as the moon herself, contrasted by pitch black hair like a Japanese princess from ages before her time, the dream of every shampoo model in Asia. That impossibly low neckline on those thin clothes from Japan. Her eyes have that - how do you say 'un no sé qué' in English? You know the way you can tell a vampire turned her back on humanity and looks for enlightenment elsewhere? That damned smile. That utter lack of shame.

Beautiful.

We had a feast in the forest and she revealed her transformation, the absolute pinnacle of necromancy: becoming a creature that is not human or vampire, but above and beyond both, the mastery of a power she calls CADAVER IN MONSTRO. Now imagine Spider Lily reborn full of life after centuries of undeath, with a pulse, heat, sweat, all of it.

"It's my first time...", she said. I smirked. She added: "...in this form." Forget the jungle cat, I am the real apex predator: a man, and I'm taking what is mine.

My goddess.

Once I cured my savior's nostalgia and lust, she confessed in my ear she had to leave due to her Beast eventually coming back 'with interest.' I held her tighter and told her I can make beasts listen to me, and that she's not going anywhere. Wily, she said: "Oho? Do you think you can tame me?" I replied: "I think I just did."

We're an odd couple: a man pretending to be an animal and a monster pretending to be a woman.

I quite literally produced a cactus spine to stab my own tongue with it for a ritual. Some of my memories came back to me - very, very important memories.

It was obvious Spider Lily didn't dig me up in Nicaragua, then take me to Canada, for the sake of a long-repressed carnal desire, so I asked the necromancer what her real goal is. She was still trying to hide her flushed face behing her sleeve.

She explained: "Your bloodline was exploited by both the Camarilla and Sabbat, while both our greater Clans don't belong to either Sect. I was wondering if the Anarch Movement could interest you, Smoking Mirror, since like many of its members, you have enemies in both sects and don't have the support of your Clan." I had to acknowledge it's better than waiting to for a lucky diablerist while two meters deep in Central America.

She added: "This is a small city, it can support a couple of Cainites. You could become the Baron. Enforce the Masquerade then work your way up. If you don't have good memories, make them. Perhaps others of your bloodline may find salvation in Canada. The alternative seems extinction." I told her: "You did not answer my question." She said the necromancers of Mexico, the Pisanob, could be interested in a cultural exchange with my bloodline.

I growled: "Spider Lily." At long last she admitted it: "Very well. I want to use you to extend my talons into both the Anarchs and the Pisanob. As business partners, we should introduce ourselves properly. I prefer to be called Lady Asano, founder of the Asano bloodline, seven times removed from Caine, childe of Marco della Passaglia of the Clan of Death."

I introduced myself: "I prefer to be called Néstor Tecuani of Kelowna, deracinated member of the Tlacique bloodline, six times removed from Caine, childe of Don Hernando de Alvarado Tezozómoc of the Clan of Faith. I will now endeavor to establish myself as the Baron of Kelowna, BC, the city I call my- nay, our new home."

That twice-damned smile.
>>
>>97924772
Lily, I'm sorry to get all pedantic on you, but nobody in universe knows the lineage of the Tlacique. Smoking Mirror wouldn't make reference to the Followers of Set (The Clan of Faith) because he wouldn't consider himself descended from them. They believe themselves descended form Tezcatlipoca - full stop.
>>
>>97922083
Listen nïa, we're almost out of the States and I feel I should give you a warning. A storm is going to hit Winnipeg soon.

I, key-word I'll emphasize, THINK I can get a number of the Sabbat to piss off, but some of the Ultra-Cons and the Camarilla are going to be a problem, I got word the latter is getting reinforcements by the 25th. More from 'Berta.

And my little party probably be near the city proper by the weekend. I've got a motley crew to sort out though.

Do you think it would be possible to get a better gauge of the Anarchs near you? The research I've gotten down here has given me a decent idea of what the Sabbat looks like, and the Camarilla might as well be broadcasting their reinforcements in rainbow lights on the horizon. But I don't like a wild card and I've gotten painfully little on this 'Baron Trelaine.'

I wouldn't ask you to put yourself in danger though.

>>
>>97924927
I based this character on Clanbook: Followers of Set, not the single page on the Tlacique in V20 Lore of the Clans. He used the ritual Blood Walk to remind himself of his lineage. Spider Lily met the Methuselah Potchli in person who is believed to be a Premascine over a thousand years old and there is simply no way the Pisanob didn't know about the Tlacique since the latter used to rule the kine openly in their territory. I said Clan of Faith so I could avoid mentioning Set and his Followers directly. I can't find the source saying the Pisanob and Tlacique might think of an alliance. Smoking Mirror was Embraced shortly after the Spanish conquest when the Tlacique naively believed they could ally themselves with the Camarilla.

I swear I did my homework this time...

That snake skin thing you exploited from Cara Mia; people always think the same thing with body armor. That only protects you from so much. Eventually, you’re gonna piss off some one with a .50bmg or hot as fuck .30-06. And guess what brother. I just got a smoking hot AK50 with the giggle switch and every round is inscribed with your name in enochian on it. Your soul will be sent to Sheol and the titans in Tartarus will pity you. There’s a reason no Koldun DARES set up domain in that range. Those mountains predate life itself, I believe. Me and Spider- I mean, Lady Asano speculate I knew too many secrets of my Clan, there may have been a commandment against killing a cult member, but not against manipulating my memories, so they removed most of the relevant information, and we assume this includes their location, to protect myself and
Yes, I can turn into a jaguar, and into an owl, but the first lesson was seeing in the dark. She showed me this photo of an African statue of Tezcatlipoca that looks like a strange, slim kind of tapir, does the African bloodline of the worshippers of the Dark God turn into that? But apparently no tapirs lived in Africa, even in prehistory...

That's fair, and I apologize again. They way he introduced himself in that last bit just felt... wrong to me for some reason. Like he shouldn't even acknowledge Caine's existence, or that there is a "Greater Clan." Regardless, I won't harp on it anymore, as it's not any of Janus's concerns.

>>
>>97926184
Intent, conviction, volatility.

First one isn't difficult to gauge but sometimes has spanners. I need to know if these are renegades, survivors, or full veteran anarchs. The problem is sometimes ragged outsiders can be actual agents, and the reputation of Anarchs flaking exists for a reason.

Second one is also easy. You can mostly get it by figuring how long they've been around a while and if they have material. If they're ready for a fight we could use them. So long as they aren't liabilities.

Third one is hardest as its deceptive. Sometimes the guy with the crackhead look will be ride and die for the community. Other times the 'reliable' one will fuck something and duck out of town.

Again though, only much as you safely can. If you need to drop the fact things will heat up soon? So be it.

Travel log #18 [ Minneapolis / St.Pauls, Minnesota ]-[*4/10 ]
>>>>>Pros
> I've been told this is a relatively stable town if you don't have starry eyes full of ambition and toe the Camarilla line
> This is very much the arch-typical New World town, it's easy to rise, even if you're a caitiff or borderline thins
> There has been a nominal peace negotiated with the Loups in the neighbourhood
>>>>>Cons
> The leadership of the Twin Cities is deranged and the Regency is a state of musical chairs
> 'Nominal Peace' with the Loups isn't actually peace when you infringe on the wilderness and step on toes
> This town is sick with intrigue. Sabbat, Camarilla, Anarchs, even hunter groups looking to pay back events of recent years

Not the worst place in the world, but Camarilla Tories and their Ventrue puppets have their hooks deep. On both sides of the river. And with how suffused the Anarchs are the underground, the city is always going to ping-pong between the two camps until something catastrophic happens. Again, apparently. Some might be able to make the most out of this town but I don't like it. Not worth fighting for, not worth living in for us. Gün at least enjoyed himself here. Despite the stronger Tremere Presence to the East there is safety to be found here and certain people he got along with. I won't say more than that.

>>97931899

Minnespilis is one if the towns we're deploying the goad-the- kine-to-riot tactic. It's meant to increasr police patrols and make hunting harder. Hungry vampires are grumpy vampires. Hungry vampires take stupid risks and ID themselves to our packs while making headaches for their leaders. And like you said, the leadership is deranged on the best of days.
>>
>>97935912
The problem with that tactic is it is fundamentally flawed. Minneapolis proves it.

The most you get are normal kindred in a vulnerable place as the Regnant could just get people grabbed. I know, I saw it for the meet and greet. And while some frustrated folks defect to your sect? The majority peel off into the Anarchs. And I have good reason to believe some of yours ate absolute shit the other week to a Brujah gang, even drove them out of state to avoid full wipe.

Also, if you have any pity for the rats pretending to fight for Caine in Manitoba?

Tell them to head home. This charade is about to end.

Damnit. Wrecked the car thanks to that bastard. Had to burn a lot of vitae on Celerity to get away and hoofing it along these mountain roads! Thank Caine I finally made it to civilization, even found a nice little bed and breakfast near prime feeding grounds to use as a holdfast!

>Also, if you have any pity for the rats pretending to fight for Caine in Manitoba?

I don't know, there's a lot of them. Even if more Cammies come from Alberta the Cammies'd still be outnumbered 2-1. I couldn't dig up any more on the Anarchs, I was going to try and meet with the Baron in person but they've gotten paranoid with the arrival of the Camarilla, so I couldn't meet with anyone. I think they're digging in to wait out the war between the Cammies and Sabbat to third-party the victor and consolidate power.

Pretty typical strat, trouble is depending on who wins they'll win the chance to get invaded all over again, from Minnesota one way or Saskatchewan the other. Hell with "Or." It wouldn't be the first Barony to get squeezed in a Jyhad vice.

>And while some frustrated folks defect to your sect? The majority peel off into the Anarchs.

It's not about recruitment. The whole point is the chaos it creates. It's hard to maintain effective command and control when, halfway through planning how to deal with the last disaster, a new report lands in your lap.and the whole landscape gets figuratively changed. Again.

This kind of crap overwhelms modern human militaries. A Cam primogen who hasn't realized events can move faster than Horse delivered hand written letters doesn't stand a chance.

>Also, if you have any pity for the rats pretending to fight for Caine in Manitoba?

That depends overall on what your objectives are. I'm not super invested in what happens in Winnipeg as I live two hours out of town and generally avoid kindred politics. But I am also a dragon and would relish the opportunity to test my spike-launchers on moving targets, so depending on your plans I might get my sire's permission to get involved.

>>97941194
Probably low Willpower more than low on vitae. Recovering vitae is easy, since he'll happily drain his victims dry. Recovering the Willpower spent on Skin of the Adder, ignoring wound penalties, scoring auto successes, or repressing his derangements? Not so much.
>>
>>97940676
I wanted to observe them for a little longer but my partner in crime's wraith, Boy Toy, came back early with a report of two Ravnos of possible South Asian ancestry, and a fight.
I walked into one of those 24h stores camouflaged as a plainclothesman and found the owner sitting on one of the two clowns' chest, bashing his skull. I tapped the UFC-watching manager's shoulder and told him: "I think he got the point. Let me take it from here." I lied, I don't think any lesson was learned tonight. The other, relatively wiser fool had left the "crime" scene much earlier.
I picked up what was left of our "smooth criminal" who then mumbled: "Am I being detained?" endlessly, like a broken record, with an irritating accent. Once he got in my car and we were some place safer, I handed him a blood bag and said: "Welcome to Canada, Kindred..." The blood bag turned into smoke between his fingers. "...is what I wanted to say, but I think I'm the new one here. I'm looking for friends in the Anarch Movement." His answer was: "Delacroix in Saskatchewan. Follow the railways. Can I go now?"
I let him off the hook. "Sure. You break the Masquerade, and I break you and your buddy, unless the kine get you first."
It goes without saying, me and Lady Asano have friends big and little that keep tracking their movements.
>>
>>97942069
So are we all just okay with the fact that Spider Lily made this guy her blood slave? Because if that's the case, I don't want to hear any criticism about the Tremere's pyramid scheme going forward.
>>
>>97942525
The activity of Camarilla-affiliated Cainites in this message board has been declining. There was a peak before I joined, I believe, when New York was ravaged by war, and House Venus was a full-sized brood, and not literally just one house with one Venus inside.
What did increase is a collection of the historic enemies of the Tremere, to the point we have even a Gargoyle writing the occasional message; and something tells me they will never stop criticizing anything the Tremere have ever done anytime soon, therefore, whatever their opinion on this Blood Bond may be, it changes nothing.
>>
>>97940776
If I had to peg it down to two objectives?
>1; Cutting out a free municipality
>2; Cutting out a long-form agreement with the Loups in said municipality
Beyond that? The rest depends on the people willing to work with that. Back in Marquette, the town was defined by the Village People living there. The bad relations with Detroit and Milwaukee, the needs of the rogue Trems and businesses and cults of the Toris.

The same is true here. Just... Different. Hence why I need your input.

You know the Tremere eat a lot of shit for their practices and often for good reason, but that's hardly a defence for your own enslavement of others. I do sort of wonder if this thread will turn back to more even camarilla posting or if it will just be an endless slog into the antics of strippers and exhibitionist. I understand that you don't care what others thing in your happy little worldview but we had a word for this at home.
>Gauche
All of your perfectly harmonious homelife sure seems to require an awful expenditure of effort to bring into your preconceived notions. Again it seems to be the maker and not the tool that's lacking. Honestly I always associated slavery with the weakest of human endevers, but in the same way that you see a swaybacked horse and think of how careless and stupid the owner must be, normal everyday licks think the same about you. Hardly the avant garde perfect society, just another miserable little soul aspiring to middle management.

But I do have to thank you, I'm going to embrace Julian. I doubt he'll stick around much after. He was ready for this decades ago. I guess even bad examples are examples.

I apologize for the youngsters, but Anchorites are somewhat incommunicado last few weeks! The Internet is the devil, and I suppose they've turned away the greatest of evils with all of our recent work aimed towards righting old wrongs and such. Either that, or it's some Garou meddling with an arrangement they consider to be deeply heretical, perhaps. All of it is somewat beyond me.

That said, as we are of little use with all this techno-nonsense, we'll be on our way shortly. Do you expect Victoria to need that punt gun she's found, by any chance? She's very eager to use it on something that'd warrant a punt gun.

>Honestly I always associated slavery with the weakest of human endevers
Baffling lecture. In your previous one, you wanted to purchase Boy Toy from me.
>you see a swaybacked horse and think of how careless and stupid the owner must be
I think of how the horse could benefit from Vicissitude.
>normal everyday licks think the same about you
Normal everyday licks are precisely what I rescued Smoking Mirror from. In case I wasn't clear, the Blood Bond was not forged for the sake of a Blood Bond. It was to unearth my new friend while minimizing the risk of a fight to the so-called "Final" Death or even Amaranth between us. Just as he was buried in a way to preserve him, I unearthed him in a way to preserve him, which means to preserve whatever wisdom and traditions he has inside his soul, that your average lick would have squandered or destroyed, contributing to a bloodline's extinction.
>another miserable little soul aspiring to middle management.
I am a second, or rather, the only chance for all these bodies and souls. Not even Boy Toy knows the reward, the salvation that awaits him for a continued good service, one that only I can give.
From exorcising malevolent spirits to the archaeology of the soul, I use my wondrous powers for good.
NOLITE IVDICARE, VT NON IVDICEMINI
>>
I've been rehearsing simulated exchanges of words with Baron Delacroix under the strict guidance of Lady Asano, I must admit it's mentally draining me.
Fortunately I have Boy Toy's acting tips. He and Architect Prime insist that she won't be able to micromanage my ever word or bail me out if I get cornered by the Prince turned Baron, and that I can't rely on a script, I must learn to improvise.

I sense her Beast. It dances, it's courting my own Beast, they both sneer at my mistakes. I can feel it, my Lady's Beast is lurking under the her immovable scowl, or "resting bitch face" as Polyglot Girl calls it.
I will not give in. I must see that cursed smile again. I will reward Milady's patience. I am almost there...

>the Blood Bond was not forged for the sake of a Blood Bond. It was to unearth my new friend while minimizing the risk of a fight to the so-called "Final" Death or even Amaranth between us.
A blatant an obvious lie if ever I've seen. If that were true, you wouldn't have given him your blood three times over three separate nights. Nobody induces a blood bond that strong unless they want near total control over someone. Yer not foolin' anyone, "yer ladyship." You saw an opportunity to gain a new slave, and you took it.

>From exorcising malevolent spirits to the archaeology of the soul, I use my wondrous powers for good.
Yer so full of shit. If that were true, you'd have sent Boy Toy and the other slaves you keep to their final reward right away rather than forcing them to toil in your service, hoping to earn their release.

Is it true that this power is the last refuge of the tasteless? Everytime? Most people would think of how to better take care of their belongings. AS for smokey, yes. How thoughtful. You preserved him into slavery. Amazing. Your lot practices blond bonds and breaking them? Why haven't you freed him?

It's not even a matter of which gun you're using. A Browning M2 will fuck a oerson up just as bad as a Barret. It's just the AMR is built to deliver one round into the side of a tank, the M2 is meant to put so much .50 cal in the air motherfuckers don't dare poke their heads up.

Perhaps he just wants to get some last tan in while he can? I'm drafting a letter to some of the clan who owe me favours and don't resent it. I spent more then a little time trying to think of how I wish things had been when I was embraced. Back then, my master needed a soldier so I soldiered. Now I think I will send him on a tour of the rockies that should keep him mostly out of trouble for a year or two. I heard some noise in our little apartment, so I borrowed Lady Asano's skull. I found Boy Toy and Polyglot Girl huddled in the corner like freezing turkey chicks. She was crying, he was trying to console her in Italian. Castellano is quite similar, I think I understood him quite well. It turns out their Mistress did nothing, the causes of her misery are a fear of the Other Side, flashbacks of unpleasant people she met on social media, and self-righteous would-be liberators with unhelpful ideas, ignorant of the desires and suffering of a wraith. I wanted to give her a hug too but my fingers slipped through the ectoplasm, the power of this skull can only go so far. I turned off the smartphone. "That's enough internet for tonight."

Lady Asano called us, plus the third wraith, Architect Prime, for an extra-Biblical tale involving Caine, whom she insists I should claim is the first vampire and my ancestor when meeting nosy, intellectual Anarchs that ask too many questions, and one Lilith figure who is not in the Bible and reminds me a bit too closely of the goddess Tlazoltéotl, complex deity of both filth and purification, lust and absolution. She wanted to know what we thought was the moral.

Boy Toy decried Caine's ungratefulness. Polyglot Girl felt Lilith should have gone easier. Architect Prime threw up his hands: "They had no one else. Couldn't they talk to each other some more?". Our unimpressed storyteller drank some plum liquor.

I told her one can't just release a captive animal in the wilderness and expect it to survive all of its dangers without some training and protection, humans are not the only species that invest time to raise their offspring. Preparing people for their liberation isn't simply a pre-requisite, it is liberation itself. Caine is the first Caitiff, Lilith the first adoptive Sire and first Clan founder.

What will I do for that damned smile. Yes, I may use this wisdom when I meet Baron Delacroix.

I poured Lady Asano some more plum liquor.

In case it wasn't obvious, Janus's current plan is to lure Chelys or Necrophage into someplace where he can get the drop on one of them alone, hold them in place with Eyes of the Serpent, and let the shovelheads rip them to pieces. He is actually pretty good with his knife though at Dex 4 (Nimble Fingers) + Melee 4 (Knives) + Potence 1 and Celerity 1.

The problem is Mirror, I don't really want anything from her. I just keep getting the image, the more I speak to her, of a grubby kid pulling the wings off flies, and wondering why they don't fly so good. Perhaps it's just acting out previous wrongs, who knows. I just wish, some days, that the 'We have a pretty good thing going, let's not upset the apple cart of all humanity on our head, and get along. I don't think you're adding in any way to her Mirror, I don't think your an aquisition of value or strategy, just whim. And I know that you can't do anything about this now, but know in the back of your mind that even blood bonds can be broken.

Now If you'll permit me I saw this online. I will definitely share strategic and personal insights into my mental state if you share a cake recipe with me.

Now i know you will no doubt think I am being silly here, but I will definitely share valueable insight, after getting a cake recipe. And even if I don't surely, the small amount of effort it would take , nearly none, would make the odds on this wager very simple. No drawback, only a small but satisfying reward, after you provide said cake recipe. You want some Noddist fan fiction? I got some Noddist fan fiction. I learned it through drinking on stoners and using a little auspex. Plus echoes in the blood I guess. But anyways, have you ever heard of an ancient Tzimisce organization known as the "Shaper's Guild"? Well the Brujah antediluvian was quite adept at time travel so the Cainite society in Enoch was/is (time being flat to them, the past is still occurring, continuity being retroactive at times, "Mandela effect" and all that) a little more established than historians let on. Before The Eldest was even embraced through Enoch and Irad's little experiment, the Tzimisce were already well rooted in Enoch's culture thanks to the time travel. Crafting monsters and beauties in deep crypts below the city with entire swimming pools of blood fueling their dark arts. Monsters like gryphons, sphinxes, dragons were all produced to Caine's specifications. The Eldest was trained by it's own future offspring to be a master of said arts.

Source? Maybe I made it up! Maybe it was revealed to me in a dream? Maybe it's true, maybe it's all horse-shit. Not even I know.

Why don't I show you what you haven't learned yet. Pene Pequeno.

This is a legitimately funny situation to me on grounds each of these three has a different fundamental strategy to their combat approach that is going to drag this out. Chelys tends to rely on overwhelming ranged power and sabotage, be it supernatural weapons or just "regular" firearms. Janus operates on pack tactics and shock, plus often ensnares in order to crush his opponents. While Necrophage operates like a slasher villain picking off pack members before hitting his enemies with the Protean Aggravated Damage. But for once, Necrophage isn't inclined to a direct rush on grounds he promised Rex the kill. Rex isn't in a position to whack Janus outright with him being full on flight mode, Janus isn't able to get the jump on Rex, and Necrophage's biggest weakness of being alone is mitigated by his agreement with Chelys. That said Janus has the initiative for the moment.

One thing I've been wondering is just how true some rumors are, since there's quite a lot about Kindred society I am still learning and separating rumors from facts isn't easy, especially when you're lurking around hearing weird shit. One thing I keep hearing from older Kindred is that APPARENTLY there are 'not-quite-vampires' in Asia and Africa, real weirdoes who have powers and curses nothing like we do. Is any of it true? Because as far as I can tell I've met black and asian kindred and they seem to be clan-based Cammies or Anarchs no different than anybody else. From the oldest vamps it seemed like weird, silly exotic nonsense people used to believe about the 'far east'.

Surely there's no special magical Asian or African vampires, right? Right?
>>

Messing with you aside, they're probably just weird bloodlines or other branches of the clans that have been cut off so long that they've developed their own strange mythologies about their origins. In Africa, certainly. Closest to our kin are the Laibon, who are not a single bloodline. Then you have the others, untold numbers of monsters which have no idea what is a Masquerade.

>Kuei-jin
Namu Amida Butsu, not this again! How many souls did I send to the Rossellini for saying: "Finally, a Kuei-jin! She's real!" to my face in the last century? Let's unpack this, as the youngsters say...
First, it's not even a Chinese or Japanese word!
鬼人 is Romanized as "Guǐrén" in Pīnyīn or, if you must continue with Wade-Giles, "Kuei-jên". In Japanese, it's "Kijin" (Hepburn).
>weren't their some Kuei-jin in L.A. not all that long ago? If it were true that they have their own special Asian magic, there'd be tons of testimony about it
I too remember hearing tales of an alleged "Mandarinate" running much the US West Coast under the nose of the Anarchs, and found no such thing.
In Japan we have, for example, bloodlines for the Giovanni, the Asano I founded in the 17th century, and Ventrue, Sotoha/Fujita, circa 16th century.
The Cathayans, if they ever existed, are either hidden or gone. Or fairies!!!
Who do we blame for this mess? Orientalism? Deracinated Asian-Americans in search of a mythical identity? The Malkavians as usual?
To this date I have no idea what exactly are we supposed to do with the Kuei-jin in V20 itself in the current year, the last Kindred of the East book was published in 2002, Revised ended its run on 2004, V20 came out in 2011. You can find isolated mentions of Cathayan/Kuei-jin in Anarchs Unbound, Children of the Revolution, Lore of the Bloodlines, V20DACore, but no updated stat blocks, pics, paragraphs of lore, etc. They've disappeared...

I sat in the dim light. My lover combed my hair with his fingers.

Spider Lily: "So, Baron Tecuani, how did the job interview go?"
Smoking Mirror: "First a police interrogation, then a job interview, last a political rally. The Ventrue talked the most as you and common sense say. Here's the list."
L: "Ee? This will do. For now. Any clever ideas from Delacroix?"
M: "I should embrace more, to strengthen the Anarchs in BC, and to let nativists, environmentalists, immigrants into the fold, and more Brujah will leave the Camarilla."
L: "Not the worst idea for a bloodline facing extinction. Delacroix knows that if the Camarilla won't offer its protection to a Prince in distress, it won't help dozens of Fledglings. The Brujah will join the Anarchs on their own. What I want to know is who's next... wait! Where do you think you're touching?!"
M: "Where it pleases you. You didn't tell me to stop."
L: "I didn't. Ahn~ Why do you stare so much at my neck lately?"
M: "Intrusive thoughts."

He felt the killing intent surging within me.
And showed fear.

L: "Did you adulterate my umeshu with your vitae!?"
M: "The vitae is mine. Not the idea or its execution!"
L: "Boy Toy! Come here! Now!"
Polyglot Girl: "No! It was me! You looked so good together!"

Both wraiths knelt.

DAMNED DEAD BRATS
I'LL EAT YOUR PLASM
WITH THE ARTS OF THE NAGARAJA
FEEL A MILLION DEATHS IN ONE-

No.

I raised my hand. She cowered. I raised my other hand.

L: "I give up. You win. Néstor dear, lend me your wrist~"
M: "What's my flavor?"
L: "Mhn~ Smoked cocoa bean, saffron, guava, a long maracujá aftertaste~ And mine?"
M: "Wife, kindly refresh my memory. Ah! Alcohol, flash of steel, peach, plum, black cherry."

I held his hand on my womb.

L: "I had two children in life. Let's strengthen both bloodlines. I must return to Asia now."
M: "We'll wait for you with a big tarta de Santiago, soft as a cloud, Lady-"
L: "Hmph! Papa?! Mama's name is Tsuna!"

For the first time, Boy Toy smiled.

That damned, slappable smile.

What a coincidence. Just when I wanted to retire this character and end this little chronicle, there was a question about the Cathayans so she could chime in. This was more of a roleplaying exercise for me: I wanted to see from the point of view of the character how arrogant, despicable, disgusting, inhuman and callous can an Elder be, and how "bad" I could make one.

Now I think I'm better prepared to roleplay as, and write for, the poor bastards on the receiving end of the carrot and the stick - mostly the stick - they way WoD is usually intended to be played. The books from 2nd edition revised where very good and helpful, I should thank those anons that tell you to read them instead of just relying on V20 publications.

>>
>>97964492
The Kuei-Jin need a TITANIC overhaul that I don't think anyone can pull off, in order to make them (1) Part of the World of Darkness in a compelling way, and (2) Interesting to play as with some better roots. I've tinkered in the past to try and find something but it's a tough sell you'd need to annihilate all the old lore to pull off. And broach into more recent Asian history.

I did have ideas about it, basically set their history up as up as something like; 'Since time in memorial, the societies of the Kuei-Jin have been bound to the hidden Tiānmìng (Mandate of Heaven) and have struggled for control over above and below, from the heart of the Middle Kingdom. At least, until the GREAT FUCKUP of the 1910s, when Kuei-Jin society collapsed, and now from Siam to Manchuria, Tibet to Japan, Anarchy reigns.' Something to let you diversify the options for regional "Kuei-Jin." Set up the stage for compelling conflicts between various factions, explain away the weird shit old Kuei-Jin had to a degree.

>The Cathayans, if they ever existed, are either hidden or gone. Or fairies!!!
What it they're just a really weird bloodline or offshoot? If I got turned into Orlock's ballsack I don't think it is THAT implausible there could be some 'hopping vampire' bloodline out there or some weird users of fleshcrafts. Of course, as far as I can tell the Asian vamps I met were members of Camarilla clans or Anarchs but it could be that those are just westernized immigrants adopted into existing clans. Pretty sure there was some half Korean chick who was a Toreador last time I got to hang around the others (and they were pretending I didn't smell like a dung beetle, for once).

Wait hold on, ARE FUCKING FAIRIES REAL?! I've only been at this unlife for like what, fuck, five years in a flyover state city. People keep talking about weird shit but I haven't been able to prove anything.

They haunt the nights in Yokohama, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka...
I learned body modification from painting to Vicissitude in Tokyo before Preston Varrick and his Tremere wiped out the Mugen Henshin Gang in the middle 90s.
I think the man that calls me his muse, the one who makes the paintings I attach to my messages, would like to become a Dragon, or maybe he was already Embraced. His last one >>97964508 is his darkest work yet, and my hair there are long enough to be a Masquerade violation...
International travel means you can meet vampires of any clan virtually everywhere - so long as the sun is down.

>What it they're just a really weird bloodline or offshoot?
We were supposed to see hordes of those. Hordes fighting the Cainite vampires in India. Invading the US West. Monopolizing the Sinosphere. The question is not: "Can a Tzimisce make a vampire with a severe ankylosis and dress him up as a Jiāngshī?" The question is: "Why aren't they devouring the souls of me, Lin Baloh the Archbishop of Nánjīng, the della Passaglia and the rest of the Cainites that unlive in East Asia since the Silk Road and oceanic navigation?"
It reminds me of those old maps of the world that said: HIC SVNT LEONES about uncharted territory. In this case, "Thousand Demons" in various languages.
>half Korean chick who was a Toreador
あら. Is her other half French? Was she in or near New York perchance? If she is who I think it is, and you learn of a Fledgling who was Embraced in New York without the permission from the Prince, inform her. You will become best friends in no time, and she will continue to use your services~ Ah, how I wish I met her as a mortal.
But if it's a different person, in case your Sire didn't tell you, don't forget that any secret you reveal to a Toreador becomes public domain knowledge.

No clue man, I'm just a low rung sewer rat and I like to keep my wrinkled hide safe by not dealing with the 'pretty people' and their clans unless its work related.

Mostly these days it consist of me and the sire working on some racket off online deliveries as more and more people buy online and ship stuff. Got some ghouls and friends around, we make things get 'lost in shipment' if you catch my drift. I don't even want to KNOW if there's a guy above my sire doing this possible pyramid scheme bullshit. I just make sure stuff that Kindred wants vanish and gets into their hands. What do other vamps want with shippings of poncy ass Ten Tickles brews when we can't drink? Beats me. I just fence shit around the state of Tennessee.

Reading sourcebooks for roleplaying inspiration is good. Having a character that provides points of interaction with other characters is better. Otherwise the thread becomes a slow crawl as people get bored and stop posting.

It's good for your character to have gaps in their knowledge. It gives them a reason to ask other characters in the thread for info. It's good if there are things your character can't do. It gives them a reason to ask the other characters in the thread for help. The threads are at their best when characters are bouncing off each other.

Non-Kindred vampires exist, but they're rare, poorly understood, and often exaggerated. For example, I traveled in China for a decade during the warlord era, and I never encountered a single "Kuei-Jin". I did however, bear witness to a genuine Jiangshi, enslaved to a mortal taoist sorcerer. They make our unlives seem rather charmed, for even if they aren't bound to the will of a witch, or even Kindred (the Prince of Guangzhou claimed to have a half dozen bound to his will), they suffer a maddening paralysis during the day, not dissimilar to what we experience when staked. They lack much of what allows us to grow mightier with age but are extremely difficult to put down for good.

I have only visited Africa briefly, but I imagine it is much the same. Mostly Kindred, some creatures so similar they're worthy of the term vampire, but not Kindred. Our powers are far more flexible than most of us are willing to admit. Especially if some foreign elder has powers that a vampire did not conceive of themselves, they have an ugly tendency to exaggerate and lie to make themselves feel less inadequate.

Oh, in Mexico I encountered an odd coven of witches with harpy-like visages and some powers that seemed indistinguishable from Disciplines. Nevertheless, their hearts still beat, and they even aged, albeit slowly. Fascinating creatures. Wish I could've learned more but Mexico is not a place sane Kindred can tarry long in.

Not in this country. To think I had to use Caine's gifts on these kine to go home... I hope they all become fodder for the Anarchs.

The Camarila of Alberta sent back a polite refusal and a counter-offer. Mostly referencing potential positions I could acquire if we help someone seize the town, beside a pile of cash. Can't say I'm surprised but I think they may have something up their sleeve, even if their would-be 'Prince Maria Pilsudski' seems to not recognize the real threat of the Loups.

Meanwhile, the Sabbat has mostly ignored the warning. Mostly. The Pack 'Bonhomme's Bastards' seem to have taken the hint and buggered off back for Quebec. Only four of them, but that's enough to set the rest of the Packs into a tizzy.

Anarchs want a meeting with me, the Baron Trelaine anyways. Won't elaborate further until we deal.

The more recent Loups turned down the challenge and said they wouldn't deal with a dead thing. Envoy showed up in the morning. Cheeky. Not going to let that run though, tonight we're gonna show them the shogun of the ropes...

Also our stalker has arrived as well. Think they even dealt with a Sabbat scout if the screaming was anything to go on.

Doubtful. They were all women, and Revenants need to keep it in the family. More pressingly, they weren't all related. I observed them for as long as I could, they practiced a very rudimentary form of blood magic steeped in heavily bastardized Nahua religion. My working theory is that they were a horribly botched attempt to usurp vampirism. Sabbat sweeps into Mexico following Cortez's little stunt, and did their usual "join or die" routine. Put a lot of native vampires to the sword from my understanding. Their famous lack of subtlety results in a coven of witches learning enough about us to attempt to steal vampirism. They kidnap some poor shovelhead, I'm guessing a Gangrel, and juice him. But they botched it somehow. They come out in this limbo between alive and undead. More than a ghoul, less than a vampire.

Some interesting developments from the fencing of goods in Tennessee, I learned that some of the shit we move around like the beer is made by King Breweries and Distilleries which seems tied to bigger corporate groups. This fact came into the discussion after one of our ghoul was found dead, mauled and chewed on by what appears to be some wild animal. From what I understand parts of the goods we 'appropriate' might involve at least partially some tax write off by the company.

Sire seems on edge, there's been movement in the local hobo communities and the trailer parks we hang around (you'd be surprised how easily we can fit in a trailer parker with a few tricks). Newcomers, as scruffy as the usual lot but...different. There's been talks of 'big dogs' or even fucking wolves apparently, although all I've glimpsed so far are unusually large ugly ass mutts. Sire told me to sit tight and cancel operations for this week and avoid feeding in the usual spots.

What the fuck is going on?

I'm guessing this whole werebeast thing is quite different from what those Gangrel guys can do and I'm guessing they aren't Kindred at all since I've seen some of the suspicious people that make my Sire nervous walk in daylight. Can I hit them? Can I punch them really really fucking hard because that's certainly one thing I've learned to do well enough since the embrace. We do sometimes have to break the limbs on those ghouls, after all.
>>
>>97971697
Nah man they can tear through an armored humvee like it's a wet paper bag, and they can shrug off small arms fire. They really fucking love nature and can smell that you're not alive and an abomination of said nature. Steer clear of them, hide if you can, or run if you're supernaturally fast. There's a lot of them up here in Canada and I learned early on to avoid them at all costs.
>>
>>97971697
>Well fuck, what are they and what do they want?
They're werewolves and they generally want to rip us into pieces. That's all you really need to know.

>Can I hit them? Can I punch them really really fucking hard
Oh sure, you can hit them - they even bleed too! Trouble is they heal fast like us, they're probably tougher than you, they probably hit harder than you, and you won't be quickly healing from the damage they deal to you; just like when a Gangrel whips out the claws and starts carving.

You can usually outwit them when they go into full sicko mode. Me and the the Night Riders (my old pack; no I didn't choose the name) managed to Tag one years ago - barely. But best advice I can give to keep your head down.

Yeah we're aborting the fencing of goods (and even potential recruitment, we had a guy or two we wanted to ghoul) in the trailer parks and heading back to Nashville sewers. Trailer parks are a no go for the foreseeable future: there's just enough woods around a few of them to hide a furry bastard or two and we are taking no chances. This ain't exactly forested land but if these bastards can hide as big mangy dogs or as local hobos they could be anywhere.

Sorry for the absence, between the ip range bans, twins being needy at night, and possibly expanding our property to include two adjacent lots that just went for sale, my nights and days have been busy. Chelys’ plan is to deal with the shovelheads with targeted claymores facing towards the arena in the woods. Newly embraced shouldn’t be able to dodge modern day grapeshot. As far as the serpentis powers, I’ll look over the rulebook tonight. If it’s anything like dominate, he is a fifth generation. Good luck with that. Gotta ask as a Nashville Fledgeling how's the relationship between Memphis and Nashville? I haven't travelled back there since the embrace and am still learning a whole lot about the local politics, even if my sire and most of the other Nosferatu do seem to stand a bit aside from it.

Hey, it's no worries! This is a hobby, not an obligation!

Regarding Eyes of the Serpent: unlike Dominate, there's no defense against it. Janus needs to succeed at a difficulty 9 Willpower roll, but if he does then you're frozen in place. Hopefully these dog-people will scatter enough for us to resume operations, wouldn't want to deprive Nashville's Kindred of some under-the-table goods and no questions-shipping. On the upside the other Nosferatus have spoken up a bit more and told me more, as it seems that with the mangy dogs butting into our operations the 'need-to-know' basis of a lot of info's moot.

Sire says these fuckers are Werewolves, possibly of a Clan (is that what they even call themselves? I know we use 'Clan') of these furry bastards that is known to dwell much closer to if not in cities. Apparently they're a little more mutt-and-dingo than pure wolf but that doesn't seem to matter. Seems they got their equivalents to coteries and even ghoul equivalent, who supposedly carry their blood somehow. Supposedly there's always been a population of them around Nashville and they were just a bit on the down low since I got embrace. Called them....Bone Grinders I think? Bone Gnashers? Some day I'll need to lurk around more educated Kindred to know more about these furry fucks because the moment they showed up they fucked up and tore apart our ghouls.

Honestly I'm not sure what happened but it freaks me the fuck out to now know some smelly hobo or seemingly drunk redneck I could bite might actually be able to turn into a goddamn wolf.

Still no clue why they showed up or what the goal here was, just seems like some of our illicit goods attracted their attention for some fucking reason. I'm just going to hide in a fucking sewer hole for a while now because man, I don't want to be near one let alone fight one. Still man, its fucked up. I've spent a few years as a vamp, lurking around Nashville and going in and out of trailer parks and hobo dens, feeding off people not even knowing there's apparently fucking shapeshifting wolf men doing something similar to our hobo stinkhole niche. Once shit dies down we'll have to rethink some of our operations and run better screening I don't want to accidentally deal with some dickhead working for the wolfmen. Apparently some wolfdicks also got ties to the local 'native' pops so it seems we'll have to also discriminate on who we make into a minion so that's fun.

Anyone else around Tennessee can confirm any known info on the wolfmen?

>embracing native spooks into the lineages.
I hate to say it but the more I think about it, the more this makes sense. While the notion of caine or the original vampire (or even original greatfather to the clans we know in these nights) seems highly suspect given all we know about what would you call them? Caitiff and similar curses? Suddenly you can see that last yesterdecades, obessession of Gehenna before was not a religious furor event but rather a practical power keeping one. The Caitiff are closer to the 'norm' vampires and while most are trash, occassional exceptionally powerful ones emerge, those powerful enough, can pass down their assorted likeness in a familiar way until eventually the 'breeding' goes sour and you end up at Caitiff again. Also solves the biggest issue with caine's story (Lilith), in a world of other clanless horrors her existance is just an interesting part of the story instead of some queer enochain add on to the known stories. It also means that Caine may not have existed (the existance of one powerful progentitor caitiff surely suggests more. It may be entirely possible that all of the clans occured spontaneously and all talk of the Antidiluvian Grandchildren of Caine is simply post hoc rationalization for what may have been a political origin (the original clans finding more in common with each other as apposed to the other nasties).

It's a sin a more thorough investigation into the matter cannot be made tactfully. But it does answer some of the questions about the variability of the embrace. If the clans are less matters of straight forward lineage but careful curation of a blood line to maintain potency and specific traits, a lot of questionable decisions become more illuminated (the missing 5ths, the hatred against the caitiff, certain individuals apparent rapid ascent to power even).
>>
>>97974014
I agree on the matter of being skeptical towards conventional noddist narratives. Always found the 13 Antediluvians to be too convenient. What of Ashur, Lucien and Mekhet? Could they really all just be alternate names for known Antediluvians? Not to mention, as our knowledge of ancient history only deepens, the further the timeline on this "first city" gets pushed back. Were the Antediluvians sired in the Younger Dryas? Earlier? In either case, I'm quite familiar with aberrations of the blood.

Though I will caveat that these things I have encountered are not Kindred. They may be undead, they may feed on blood, or at least life force however it is obtained, but they aren't Kindred. I think what we are is the most common and dominant expression of a phenomenon inherent to creation. The origin of that phenomenon however... I do not know, sadly.

As a bit of advice, I have found that the best way to investigate that which goes counter to prevailing narratives is to do so without notice. I happen to be a specialist in this regard, I am a master of Obfuscate. It's how I manage to fly under the radar of the more unstable Kindred.
