>TQFirst commander I made, I was a retard who was trying to make a 60 card golem tribal deck already when I started playing so I had all of the splicers and a few other cards already. He's fun, but for some reason bant just makes me fall asleep.
>>97876733>TQI started Magic playing standard in 2017, so I was partial to the timmysaurs

Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
>>97876733>TQthe first legendary I got at all. I ended up trading him for an entire RDW deck. at least everything involved in the transaction is now under a dollar, but it was like 25 bucks at the time.downloading this image made me notice they rebalanced the blue in the image for some reason.
>>97876868Seems like a fun take on it.
>>97876733It was either this or Sharuum, I forget which.
>prefer to build b4 decks and optimise my gameplay>friends prefer b2~3, or are generally more casual, or have less money>I can't play my decks, because they'll never winBeen thinking of just building "bad" commanders, Phelddagrif being the first on the list.Is there a fun way to pilot him? I mainly want to control the board, and survive while also allowing my friends to play their decks and their cards. My goal should still be to win, but without making my friends feel bad. Stax and the like is disallowed, combos are fine as long as they thematically fit.Any tips on where to start? Any cards that I absolutely should include? Bonus points if the card is more niche, as I likely know about most of the cards already.
Gimme some ideas for how to cook a Tannuk deck. My basic gameplan is to get him out ASAP, slap people with big dick red/artifact creatures with nasty ETB, and have some added utility in the deck like Sunbird's Invocation, Sarkhan's Unsealing, and Indistrial Advancement. I'll probably also throw in Conjurer's Closet and Sindial to cheat the warp exile.Besides the obvious shit like Blightsteel and Ancient Copper, what other stuff should I be considering?
>tqJust now getting back into magic after like 15 years of not playing, I used to love building decks around Jarad and Grimgrin but I didn't realize that Commander was already a thingSo I bought picrel's precon

Then they printed Razaketh and it got even worse and I took it apart shortly thereafter.
>TQPicrel. Juri's a pretty fun commander. He gets out early, and people tend to ignore him because he's really low-impact.But his interaction changes late game when people start realizing that their life total is just about equal to his power. I've had a lot of good times with this clownfuck.

>>97877472>says it is bracket 3 when it doesn't meet any criteria for bracket 3weird
>>97877246Mirror of Life Trapping. It's a lite-stax piece that doubles enter triggers and can even perma someone's commander if played correctly. It's got a surprising number of synergies for what it does, especially in bounceflicker, but its price point isn't even worth the cardboard it's printed on. Well regardless of how good it actually is, it's definitely a spicy card. There's better alternatives, but nothing's quite like it.
>>97877477A strength of a 3 isn't soley on GCs my guy.
>>97877472Okay but how does your deck perform after you takeout your true dual and fetchs tho.
>>97877482>Nooo you have duals and fetches so it is bracket 4!No where in the bracket criteria does it list anything about the lands you use. Criteria is no two card infinites, no super early wins, and limited or no GCs. If it does not hit this criteria then it isn't bracket 3/4. "You dropped this scary creature early on" doesn't matter. It isn't violating any criteria. If you use criteria like this then brackets are entirely up to interpretation.
>>97877494Probably about the same to be honest.
>>97877504Then why not just take them out?
>>97876733>TQPlayed a pile of bad artifacts I had like Arsenal Thresher and Tower Gargoyle against my buddy's Experiment Kraj deck.Good times.

>>97877534>Its just weird to me that two lands cause it to go up too full brackets.Depends who you ask.
>>97877520Because they're the optimal lands and one of the bracket criterias is how optimized your deck is. So designing your deck with less powerful lands is an easy way to lower your bracket. If you don't care about brackets, then sure, leave them in. Who gives a shit what commander salt thinks?
>TQRiku as some jank hybrid artifact/clone/etb deck. it was bad but it had dockside in it lol>>97877534>I am, Its just weird to me that two lands cause it to go up too full brackets.People get really really upset if you play a Tundra instead of a Hallowed Fountain despite them being only about a 5% power difference between them if you genuinely consider 2 life a cost. We have so many pretty decent extremely mildly conditional duals that come in untapped for various reasons or produce both colors for various reasons at this point that OG Duals are mostly just a flex and are sick if you show them to people. Arguably one of the types of cards that are the most cringe to proxy and yet the coolest to see in their real form.
>>97877551But they aren't against the bracket criteriaWhat will happen is you'll get into an argument in person because your definition varies from other players.
>>97877566there being*
>>97876733>TQ: what was your first commander?Nearly every permanent untapped him, so I would just tap/untap/tap/untap him several times per turn to lock the entire table down. Had like 20 counterspells. Fisher Price My First Control Deck and it was fucking trash
>>97877566>Arguably one of the types of cards that are the most cringe to proxy and yet the coolest to see in their real formI'd love to hear this explained.

>240 dollary doos in foilWhat in the god damn
>>97877587What's need to be explained? Its cringe to just make a goodstuff pile deck with nothing but proxied true duals and fetches for all of the colors..Someone actually doing them with genuine articles is rare and neat to see.Sounds like he struck a nerve though.
>>97877613nta but that seems retarded
>>97877569>But they aren't against the bracket criteriaNot explicitly. Depends on how far you actually read into their rationale for each of the brackets. One of the things they focus on is staples and optimization, which the higher you go with that the more it leans into competitive. But Commandersalt is a statistics site that doesn't really have room for anything that nebulous or poorly defined, so it just labels fetches and true duals as staples and calls it a day.
>>97877587i can't really sum it up better than >>97877613 didif you proxy all of your true duals, then you proxy all of your fetches so you can make sure you play your true duals, then it's off to the races for every other thing that effectively strips your deck of any identity or pleasure in playing it beyond going "LOOK AT IT" lmaoI own a Tundra, I've had people ask to hold it when I play it because it's the first time they've seen a real one. There's a prestige to these things, earned or not, that gives them flair.douse yourself in glitter if you must, but don't think we'll mistake you for gold lol>>97877608I think the Blurza from that one

>>97877633desu how would you ever even know if they were real or just good fakes and the guy is a liar?
>>97877587>>Arguably one of the types of cards that are the most cringe to proxyNTA, but I make proxies for my friends from time to time.I pretty much cringe any time they ask me to make true duals or fetches. Like, just go grab a piece of card board and draw your own lame little volcanic island. If you don't care about people judging you, then just own it.
>>97877632Your mind set is genuinely retarded and falls apart to the most basic forms of logic. It is also rife with contradiction.
>>97877647>Good fakesIts pretty obvious to spot a real true dual and chinese counterfeit just looking in a sleeve. 30 year old cards don't look like they were printed yesterday with 0 age and shiny as fuck. If you really want to sand you bootlegs all weekend and then leave them in a window for 2 weeks to gain some sun damage just so you can try and look cool fooling people, go for it, but ask yourself why you are going through so much trouble, and you'll see how cringe it is.Its more cringe than going to the LGS with sharpie on a basic.

>>97877613It's more cringe to say it's fine for people to play goodstuff decks with true duals if they bought them.
>>97877825How so?They invested the money at the least, and time over collecting at best to acquire them at most.. Why is it cringe to use cards you own? How is it less cringe to use cards you don't actually own just because they are strong?
>>97877551>>97877626The bracket system explicitly makes an exception for manabase quality in its qualifications. You're allowed to have a perfectly optimized manabase in a bracket 1 deck.
>>97877831>The bracket system explicitly makes an exception for manabase quality in its qualifications"There are no hard-and-fast rules" is the opposite of being explicit. If anything, that's aggressively avoiding the question, which is why commander salt just make up its own answer and called them "staples".
>>97877828Paying to win is the gayest and cringiest shit imaginable. If you think true duals are strong enough that it irks you if someone brings a proxied one to the table then you don't get to play one just because the one you bought was made 30 years ago instead of 30 days ago.
>>97877919>Paying to win is the gayest and cringiest shit imaginable>While paying to win through counterfeits is somehow not exactly the same, only worse because you're buying fake cards to do it.>Entire game is about buying and collecting cards with the best on your collection, so its cringe to engage with the hobby as its intended.I fully understand you feel called out, and you should, you were, but this is just cope.
>>97877956>so its cringe to engage with the hobby as its intendedSo you only use cards you cracked from packs or traded from players who also cracked theirs from packs right? Because that was the actual intention of the game, if you use the secondary market you're already defying Magic as garf intended. I even had a guy who had real deal duals look at one of mine and not spot that it was fake. Basically if I have a card that is over $5, it's a fake.
You shouldn't bother arguing with chang. All he does is hang out and talk about buying proxies from china and how normal and based it is all the time. He's too stupid to buy an ad even if he would, so the best thing to do is not encourage him.

Speaking of Shredder, what's actually the way to build Super Shredder?Do you just run him with an aristocrats engine or is he primarily a voltron equip commander?I've heard people mention him as a voltron guy but idk how great he really is for that.
>>97878601godspeed anon.
>>97878602He's aristocrats all the way. Given that he gets juiced from ANYTHING leaving the game, fetches and landfall makes him to barshit crazy. My favorite interaction is how a player dying is counted as leaving the battlefield, so Shredder gets a giant boost if someone loses.
>>97878618But what does he actually accomplish in aristocrats? He's just a big menace vanilla creature that gets chump blocked pretty easily.I feel like in voltron he's missing enough procs and in aristocrats he doesn't really do anything besides getting big.
>>97878625You give him a pair of nice shoes and send him on his merry way.

Settle an argument. Can frontline medic only counter spells explicitly with "X in it value, or can it counter any spell. Because everyone saying it can be any value and the person using the spell has to pay three, but I looked it up and the ruling I found says it explicitly has to have an "X" in its cost.
>>97878534Speaking of smut proxies, which commander fits her best?
>>97876733>TQThis guy. Me and my friends picked up the precons at walmart and played with them, unsleeved and unedited, as God intended.I don't know where that deck is now, but all the cards are beat to shit.

>>97878669>but I looked it up and the ruling I found says it explicitly has to have an "X" in its cost. Why are you asking us then? The ruling is the ruling.
>>97878669I almost had an aneurysm trying to understand how someone could get confused by this card. But use the phrasing in mana tithe for reference. It's saying for the X cost spell to resolve, you need to pay an additional 3 to whatever you paid for X. "X cost" in this case is just specifying the type of spell, similar to saying "Counter non creature spell."NOT that you can't counter a spell when X=3.
>>97878711>>97878715The player arguing that it can counter anything, even if it doesn't explicitly state "X" has been playing magic for like 15 years and we're all relatively new, but we're starting to notice that he'll argue against anything thats particularly inconvenient for him.He played a shitty phase-out deck 3 weeks ago, but when someone else played it he had a fit and started claiming they were phased out only until someone elses upkeep not your own upkeep, despite claiming the opposite when he was playing phase out.He gotten progressively more argumentative as people are starting to get better, and had a fit about a board wipe tonight, and got into a big argument about his frontline medic being able to counter anything, not just needing an "X" in its cost.
>>97878736Well, he's a retard and knows he's a retard and likely is just trying to bully you because he wants to win that bad. The card is very clear. "counter any spell with "X" in its mana cost unless the play the troll toll."

>>97878755says nothing about X mana values- not counters in the first instance of counters*
i have an addiction to making decks based around modular. i love artifacts and i love +1/+1 counters. arcbound worker is one of my favourite cards. i will not stop making these decks. my goal is to have a modular deck for every colour combo out there.
Does the effect stay active if he leaves the battlefield? If you replay and re-transform him, do you choose a new opponent?
>>97878779>Does the effect stay active if he leaves the battlefield? INo. You'd need some kind of counter on him or a creature giving the effect, or an emblem on them to cause the effect to persist without it on the board.

Even when waifus are built to helm objectively bad decks they can still become popular, like how Giada is still the most popular white commander and in the top 20 despite angels being an extremely shit tribe carried by cute girl art. They're leaving literal billions on the table by not having their UW sets look like a gacha game. If they had an anime-style Best Of Magic's Girls set with Teysa and Thalia and Avacyn and Freyalise and Nissa and Chandra etc etc etc it'd be one of the best selling UW sets of all time even if the cards sucked.
>>97878779When transformed cards are not on the battlefield, they are always the front side.Additionally, cards with abilities like this only apply while they're in the field, and if they change zones, then their previous states no longer apply. In other words, if he's face up, that win con doesn't apply, and you can choose different opponents when he transforms again, but not multiple opponents.

Almost all of my decks have been based first on how cool I've found the commander and their art to be, and then whether their effect is fun to play. The only thing that has kept me from building Shorikai, Genesis Engine is that in spite of being a cool origami mech, I can't figure out yet how to make a pilots matter line on it because otherwise he's just a literal value engine in WU.I've built Balan, Y'shtola and Neerdiv for this reason combined with waifu vibes; I'm building Vihaan because of sick art and a cool concept. Go-Shintai of Life's origin is just okay, it's an exception that I built entirely on the mechanical interest, making him much like my Mutate deck with Xavier Sal at the helm.Put differently, a not insignificant part of Commander night is the fucking business card scene from American Psycho; people want to show and tell as much as they want to play.

This is an excellent example. Don't be drawn into tripfag drama. Nobody gives a shit about tripfags. They're either using tripcodes correctly or they're retards; the former doesn't need corrected and the latter cannot be corrected. On that note. I'm still trying to decide where I should focus my Vihaan deck that I mentioned earlier. I can see it kinda three ways, either just treasure matters, assassin tribal or outlaw tribal. I was considering making him theft because I really like Jasper Flint from playing Brawl on MTGA, but everyone and their mother plays theft; I think it'd be cooler to lean another way. There's a lot of cool artifact creature support coming out too that can make the assassin-treasures really nice, but I'd like to hear what other people think.I'm not going to use Revel in Riches mind; it's a boring wincon and I'd rather take it in a more entertaining direction.

Does anyone have any experience Surveyor’s Scope in red blue or black at higher brackets? Seems like the best land ramp possible outside of green or white Land Tax effects but also seems to be highly variable needing people to have +2 lands than youI don’t really have ways to abuse this as only fetch I have in this deck is Polluted Delta. Also seems dependent on turn order. But realistically would playing this on turn 2, 3 or 4 often yield results? This seems like a somewhat obscure card.
>>97879736Woah seething tranny alert!!!
Sol Ring is a mana rock that is mana positive the turn you play it and gives you an extra 2 mana each turn... it's an automatic inclusion in 100% of decks that aim to win and gives the players that draw it a huge advantage over others that don't It's the literal definition of a banworthy card and no amount of retardation or trolling will ever change that
>>978797572 more lands is a hard thing to come across. You'd basically have to handicap yourself for 2 turns by not playing any lands to even achieve it. Not every deck with green is ramping out lands that hard in the first place
>>97879757I would only really give this card a try if you know your pod has multiple ramping green players, otherwise it's kindof a dead card 99% of the time because you have to be actively missing land drops to get "value" out of it

How about this goofy ah card. How to keep this a mana positive ramp? The only ways that immediately come to mind are either wasting a Stifle type spell when he dies, or wasting Imprisoned on the Moon on him (which would also give me a land but it’s more useful for locking up pesky commanders)
Time Vault is fair and balanced. Everyone gets one. Playing shit like this every turn is far more damaging than the low chance of drawing time vault. I have been looking for a mono black commander I like for days now, but I just cant find one that interests me. mono black commanders are either extremely lame and nasty (like all the discard ones, I like the guys in my playgroup so I dont want to play sth. like that), or they are some boring zombie tribal. So I thought about just adding another color. >>97880004Nothing you said makes any sense.>want to play mono black, choose rakdos because apparently you don't play mono black against people like you like>scared that a commander is strong>top edhdecks = most playedyou are too new in this game to understand how to even begin to start building the demonlord. instead go pick a 2 color commander with green and start learning from there.
>>97880004maybe just Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER// One Winged Angel. get a bunch of cheap mana cost black creatures to fuel him, or something that generates some sort of tokens (yeah maybe zombies but could also be Bitterblossom for faeries, or Ophiomancer) Pairs well with Phyrxian Alter as well, dont forget the Dark Ritual and Black Market Connections or Jet Medallion. Sheoldred, the Apocalypse I've been thinking of adding into my 99 of a red blue and black deck where black is the 2nd most prevalent color just because the value of draining everyone's life. looks like its usually around $90-$100 though in paper. Maha, Its Feathers Night seems interesting if you can find enough spells to damage the creatures, which in black would typically be with -1/-1 counters and effects. Stuff like Massacre and Geth's Verdict and Night of Soul's Betrayal (this is also a good wipe for 1/1 token armies). Everything they put into play will die automatically. If thats too salty for them they need to get a grip because thats just some pre-con level of synergy right there. If your buddies have lots of tribal stuff, cards like Engineered Plague could be absolutely brutal, seems like it would be really fun to try building around. I might even think about picking up Maha because now this sounds like an interesting thing to mess with.
>>97880311Sephiroth is kino, seconding this.>Pairs well with Phyrxian Alter as wellCareful with this, it can easily push the deck into bracket 4.If you have Forsaken Miner in the deck (you should) then you effectively have a 2-card infinite that wins on turn 4 consistently, i've had to take out the altar from my Sephiroth deck because it was far too strong for bracket 3.
>>97880276I dont know why you cant follow my train of thoughts. did I hurt you?>>97880311Sephiroth looks cool. dont really like sheoldred. I was also thinking about Lorcan, Warlock Collector, but thats another thing about mono B commanders. the ones with real cool effects cost 7 or more mono>>97880319yea Im not playing combo decks where you can get infinite mana or just drain your opponents
>>97880337yeah expensive black commanders just make sure you have stuff like Dark Ritual, Cabal Ritual. again using the black sacrifice engine but not going infinite (dont use it to go infinite if you don't want) you can use Phyrexian Altar as previously said or Culling the Weak (which its an instant if you look It up it might say the card is a mana source its just an instant). the classic spell Sacrifice is good as well for paying costs and like I said things like Jet Medallion, of course Sol Ring and Arcane Signet are a givenin mono black the most obvious auto include is Urborg Tomb of Yawgmoth + Cabal Coffers. Theres also Cabal Stronghold.
>Put him on a full art basic>He's doesn't appear in the mean set.
>>97879989>crop rotation is a GC>Scapeshift is not
>>97880337>I dont know why you cant follow my train of thoughtsyou don't know a lot of things, that's the problem
>>97879989You aren't really putting a 3 MV ramp spell in your Green identity decks are you anon? It only gets you one land.
>>97880433based on your first reply to my initial post, you dont know a lot about the English language
>>97880424Dare I ask how you managed to equate these things? That's like saying Diabolic Tutor should be a GC because Vampiric Tutor is.
>>97879911Sundial / Obeka effects after making a fuck ton of copies with Orthion, Flameshadow Conjuring etc. The set up is already mana intensive though, so you are just "winmoreing"
>>97880424>crop rotation is a GC>it's only good when you have 3 other GCs to find with it
>TQPicrel. Sadly, I never got it to work. Maybe because I was too inexperienced and then lost interest, or because he is simply shit. The only good lists I ever found were spike combo sloppa but I wanted some tap/untap shenanigans and merfolk value just like I had in standard 100 years ago.
Are the Borg azorious or monoblack?
>>97880541Monoblack and if we're lucky wotc will design them in a gigeresque way just like old 2000s phyrexia
>>97880541Should be monowhite
I'm kinda retardedExplain the first line to me, is it just a way for you to revive it straight from your gy (which you normally can't do with planeswalkers)?
>>97880596Blue seeks perfection through knowledge, exactly the goal of the Borg. They assimilate in order to catalog information for the sake of improving themselves.>>97880601Lets her be your commander. In 60 card it means if you mill a second copy off the +1 you get to repeat the mill.
>>97880596>Artifact assimilation with flesh>Pefection through Understanding>not blueCome on, now. The Borg are easily Esper.>Impose their order on others>Do not care about casualties of others or any means needed to assimilate >*Perfection. Through. Understanding.*Come on, nigga.
>>97880622>Lets her be your commanderOh right I forgot about that, I mostly play Brawl on Arena which already allows planeswalker commanders (it's not that fun)
>>97880628>Do not care about casualties of others or any means needed to assimilateI don't think that qualifies them for black. When Locutus is heading to Earth he expresses genuine confusion at the idea that humans don't want to be assimilated. From the Borg's perspective they aren't killing or hurting anyone, they're uplifting discordant and flawed beings with the gifts of unity and perfection. It's practically a mass act of charity.
>>97880601Or tutor it as a creature. Or get the benefits of milling it as a creature. Or play it in the command zone.
