Is there anything you actually wanna talk about?
Yes, I want to endlessly talk about Blades in the Dark (just had our 4th or 5th session today), but when I've posted the thread about the system it slid off the catalog. We're playing Vigilantes, and things are looking up - we're on the verge of exterminating Red Sashes, we're close to finishing our feud with Crow's Foot Bluecoats, we're close to getting our first cohort, a bluecoat named Grumbling Ben, whom we've previously stopped from racketeering a kebab shop. Personally, I'm planning a huge dive into the occult - capturing an Ancient Obelisk from the local cult under lord Scurlock's patronage and maybe picking the Occultist special ability, so that I can consort with forgotten gods. We've just spent all our coin and reputation on upgrading our tier, something that was absolutely useless since we immediately went to war (which lowers your tier), but I guess at some point soon this war will come to an end.Is there anything YOU wanna talk about?
>>97878423I want to talk about how I miss gaming culture. I miss having a shared community to discuss games and their editions. Discords ain't it. Social media ain't it. The pace of releases is fucked, and almost every game has nothing to talk about. They give us less room to imagine, and less room to play.Because you know what I really want to discuss? Whatever the fuck is going on in World of Darkness lore, whatever cool wargame is coming to save us from GW, actual mechanics and fluff. The medium is booming in sales, but there's less and less that will ever lead you to interact with another person. But you know what? I like Thrilling Adventures. It's using the old d6 system now and it's cool.

There are many days when I give serious thought to leaving my wife. I love her and I think I'm on the whole happier with her than I was before I met her, but I find it hard to find good things to say about her. She's fat, has an abrasive personality, and gets pissy when I try to make time for myself to go to the gym or do things with my male friends. She makes token gestures to try to improve herself but more often than not "just can't" because she's too tired or emotionally activated or whatever other excuse she's using to sit on her phone and scroll through her manhwa or watch Netflix for 3 hours a night. We have very little in common beyond that we like fucking each other (though that has dried up as well, I'm lucky to get it 3 or 4 times a month now due to reasons above). I don't want to leave because I'd get fucked by the legal system, she's the best I can do, and because I don't want to lose access to my daughter. There are enough fatherless white women in the world, and I would know, because I married one. Also she is "that player" in my D&D tables. Granted I am new when it comes to DMing, but she loves the spotlight and throws curveball after curveball at me. I suppose the one positive thing that I can say about her is that when she gets invested in something, she reaches almost autistic levels of investment, so I suppose I should be thankful for that.

>>97878495To prove that I am also games, I'm in-between delayed Lancer sessions, and my other campaign is a 5.5e Eberron game that's pretty much just waiting to die. Our next session of the 5e game is going to be our DM announcing an indefinite hiatus due to how long the campaign has dragged on caught up on early narrative hooks compared to the actually cool stuff that he wanted us to get to (i.e., what made him want to run Eberron in the first place), and with his Shadowdark books arriving soon, the DM's interest in the Eberron campaign's dried upThe Lancer game's been a lot of fun, but we're only just getting off the GM's tutorial island of sorts, so things'll open up a lot going forward. My character's a disgraced noble who's bankrolling our home planet's operation against Harrison Armory but who wants to start building connections around the planet to re-establish a hereditary monarchy with himself at the top and the former princess as his bride, but the party's got a hardline schizo and a psychopath in the crew. Keeping everything balanced without it falling out of his grasp will be a lot of fun, I thinkI mostly just wanted to start a discussion about the board itself and invite sincere conversation from the less-dishonest real posters that're still here. I didn't care what ended up being the thread's direction, really. I know there are humans on this board, and I figured my post'd be lacking enough in keyterms to make the bots and annoying faggots leave out of boredom pretty quick and I/we could just see people talking about their thoughts. >>97880923Oh, and it's so fucking far out of my mind I forgot about it, but at some point my V5 game will start. I'm bearish on the system mechanics themselves, and since I started my brainstorming one of my players died, but I still kind of look forward to doing it
>>97878495The one game we played, my players chose a cult, with the power to communicate without speaking. They were the cult of friendship and glitter and happiness.Powered by human sacrifice. It's a shame the core book's lore part is such an unusable tangled mess, I'd play it again. But I would rather sandbox it, that is, create stuff as I go, rather to try and figure out who tbey should stumble upon next.
I'm about a dozen sessions in to my Stormlight RPG game, and we just finished the one module the game has (which is canon to the narrative of the books), so now I'm off the rails in terms of game setting. I've got a couple of options in how I can use the established setting, and the module ends in the gap between two books, meaning for now it's all up in the air without interfering with established canon. My options are:>Have them avoid most of the events of the books, and use the events happening elsewhere as a backdrop to whatever the players are doing.Upside: Don't have to worry about interfering with the plot if I want to use things later. This is similar to running a sandbox in a pre-established setting but there'd be walls to prevent them from affecting the major events that happen later on in the timeline of the setting.Downside: I've got to come up with all new content that doesn't contradict future events.>Have them play second string to the main characters in major scenarios, having them deal with the combat and the aftermath of whatever decision the main characters make in terms of plot directionUpside: I can just follow the book's eventsDownside: The players might feel a lack of agency if they're not affecting the plot>Have them replace the main characters, or at least the main characters become second fiddle to the players insteadUpside: The players will control the plot and I can still use some of the plot depending on how things developDownside: The players can more easily torch the plot and then I've got to throw out a bunch of previously usable story. This is similar to the players doing something in a regular game where you have to toss out a section that you have planned, but in this case I have to try and salvage what I can since a lot of the cool narrative moments they would have replacing the main characters depends on the events unfolding the way they do in the books.
>>97878423Not with /tg/, because /tg/ doesn't actually play games nor do they believe anyone else plays games, and I know this board of faggots who if they did play games would turn every tavern into a 5th dimensional space with everyone in their own corner brooding would not appreciate the latest player character I'm set up to play when the game I'm currently in wraps up in the future. Or that character for that matter.

>>97878423rant.Yesterday I left the campaign/group game and I kinda bummed out. I dunno if it was on my part or on the rest of the group but definitely there was some cognitive dissonance, I dunno if things were always like this and I never realized or if changed but I couldn't keep in the game because i wasn't having fun.I've been playing in this campaign for like 2 years and we just reached high level (the mid point of the hightest level on the system), when I started I got really good rolls so I picked a kinda average class to compensate but turned out it was more subpar than just average still had fun with the char, sure he ended bloodied and bruised but you should have seen the other guys, he always stood up when he fell and never backed down. GM even praised the char's development, how it was build and how it kept evolving through the years and levels. But since we reached that high level things have completely changed, now my character (features, class, options I picked) are meaningless, the only thing that matters is "do I have X magic item to counter this encounter? no? then I'm useless", none of my features are useful, they used to be but now are useless and easily outclassed by magic items, items that the GM tells us to buy in masse:I was a really good athlete, but now everybody flies and it's expected to everybody to have items that grant them flight...so my athletism and physical skills are uselessI was really good at grappling, locking, throwing, etc enemies, but now everybody is either outright inmune or I can't win the skill challenge against the enemiesMy willpower was the highest of the group but now it is meaningless and you need outright inmmunity through magic items, so all that invesment was for nothingI was very perceptive and insightful but now they can hide their intentions through magic or be invisible with such ease, and the difficulty to spot them outpaces my skills
>>97878423I want to talk about the fucked up age we're living in where the most highly praised systems and books on the market are all dog shit and lacking in any real design sense. Games that offers you some shitty, vague dark souls item flavor text lore and then pretends like the possibility that an imaginary guy could come along and free-associate and improv his way into make a really good campaign with that garbage is a reason to treat that game like greatest thing to happen to TTRPGs.
>>97881358cont.My GM told us to adapt our characters to the current situation and everybody outright went the "ok the character is the same, same name, and backstory but now he's a full optimized cleric instead of a full beer and pretzels rogue" and the GM not only is ok with that he's trying to make me do also do that. Look I have no problem starting a new game from this level, but this retcon is a no for me, and I also feel cheated and tricked when the same GM who told me he liked my char the most and loved it's evolution so much is tell me now to drop and change all that like it never existed>that picoddly accurate

>>97879388And who is this supposed to be if not toph
Yes. What rpg system won't give me a lawsuit if I start using it as a drawing engine my coloring books or Hollywood scripts?
>>97881203As someone currently in a Cosmere RPG that's likely to run into that same situation soon, I think keeping them parallel to canon and not being afraid to go off the rails is probably the most fulfilling option as a player. Playing second fiddle to the book protagonists and being "plot roadies" that keep the books on track would feel very lame (especially if any of your players Spoke The Words) and replacing the book events with your own characters would just feel like an awkward fanfic. Now I'm behind a book or two so I can't say too much how things develop, but I think there's two broad avenues open for you>invent some new issues for them to chase (lean on player backstories, no doubt their PCs will be worried about how the Desolation has affected their hometowns or loved ones) that may or may not intersect with the book characters, you can let them partake in major events in their own way without running roughshod over the books' plots but maybe tweaking certain outcomes>just say fuck it and have them join the books' cast. While the end result will probably veer off the narrative tracks, this might actually give you more direction over the PCs as they'll be working for/with the book protags and you can give them concrete objectives they'll be obligated to complete since they're part of a larger team nowUltimately though, I'd say just talk with your players. See how they feel and depending on how much they know about the books (our group has someone who never read any of Stormlight and accidentally made an extra suicidal Kholin, for example) they might not even really feel the difference between the various options

I can't fucking imagine starting a new campaign from scratch with people under 25, at this point. Nobody reads the rulebooks for even just what their own characters do, let alone how the game works. For what you're paying for, the physical product is nice!... but the actual rules and material that makes up the GAME that you paid for are worthless garbage.
>>97883472That'd explain the hype around it, considering nobody bothers reading the book for the games they play. Shadowdark then isn't a good game, but the image of a good game, such that it appears from all its ornamentation to be something enjoyable but the substance is bad, and people who just buy and play things on vibes can't tell the difference anywayMy hope is that this specific group finds it interesting enough to springboard off to playing better systems afterwards, since Shadowdark will at least prove pretty low-commitment compared to the giant tome of drek that is 5eOne of the DMs no longer wanting to run 5e is the real clincher for me. War between the moon and sun, magical creatures made from living stars, your pick of whacky fantasy creatures with specific niches, etc. And Fallout: Equestria was a huge thing in the fanfiction community too, and I had just gotten into the games at the time with Fallout 3, so there's a lot of nostalgia there for both halves of the equation. We do plenty of lampshading because obviously the premise is inherently silly (how the fuck do Pathfinder's hand rules work with hooves? Who the fuck knows) but it's mostly played straight. I got into tabletop and roleplay fucking around on Warcraft 3 roleplay maps on Battle.net when I was like nine or something. My cringe inhibitors barely exist as long as I don't have to talk out loud.
>>97878423I miss how the internet was before 2016 in general and this place in particular. I was here already and I think it was towards the end of what I liked about /tg/. I saw the end of the weekend smut threads and when GW took out chapter master. The "best thread on /tg/ right now" reactions. Magnus did nothing wrong etc. Then whatever happened happened, then covid, and people became polarised, isolated and weird. This place used to be comfier (the generals don't help) and /tg/ used to do things even if it was full of waifufags. Hop over on /vg/ and /v/ and a bunch of us are posting about Macha and Cultist-chan because we achieved nothing since then and because somehow the 40k games threads over there feel more like this place did back then. I really hope the people who left did so because they are OK and happy doing their things IRL. I hope my fellow /wst/ writers and artists are doing fine. If it wasn't for them I'd never have picked up a pencil.
>>97886365>Putinah yes Putin. the one spamming gore and ukraine threads on /k/ and the reason that board hasnt been usable for years because every time anything remotely russian gets even mentioned Putin’s minions show up to spam gore, tired memes, and drone cameras. Oh wait no that was faggots like you.
>>97887113old bitch probably pushing 50 still crying about /pol/. fucking sad. I dont care how many handjobs you gave moot.
>>97880407I wonder if website rework means we are finally getting updated large scale battle rules and a new starter set. Qualtieri mentioned them once in the company command sprue video but hasn't elaborated since, i guess atlantic told him to shut the fuck up until the skirmish starter box and rulebook get sold out.
>>97878423There is nothing to talk about. I either win the lottery jackpot or I kill myself by 50.
>>97887463I was thinking about a new blood bowl team
>>97886450Better than being a RepubliTARDian
>>97887399You should try crying about it.
>>97882767Then yeah, I guess you have free reign to "railroad" and borrow the books' plots a little heavier. Our GM has it a little more difficult, as half the group is current with the books as well as other Cosmere series and I've read enough of Stormlight to know the setting and plots to a degree, though it's been a while and my memory is muddy (for example earlier I said Kholin when I meant he made a more suicidal Kaladin). It's a fun little system and I hope you find something that works for you and your group.
>>97886929What's there to convey? It's stripped down to nearly nothing, with classes that have nothing special going on, and also 5e's advantage/disadvantage mechanic. There's nothing else to say about it. That's the point. 60 fucking dollars for a fancy book full of nothing, and especially large print so it can fill out the page count and look like a real RPG, even though it barely has enough rules to fill one page.
>>97887113>I explicitly said both are bad>Toxic positivity isn't that much better than toxic negativity, but it IS better. You explicitly did not.> before you draw attention to origins of the /pol/ boardOh, you're one of those twitter retards who think the Epstein gang explicitly handed down all of the specific thread topics, beliefs, and opinions to a faceless mob of assholes. You're a fucking retard through and through.
>>97886365Nice of all these kind anons to immediately prove your claims correct to a tee with their replies showing that they are matter-of-factly the ones with souls so warped that what dialogue between real people here does exist inevitably gets torched by shitflinging caused by people acting exactly as they are. You tried, Anon, but at least it was funny
>>97887144I don't play with zoomers, I play with my friends, but friends die and younger siblings and cousins and family friends get into games, and those same people invite others to games too. I DON'T play DnD and in fact the very post you're replying to includes me explicitly stating I am playing other games, but the broader problem in the community as a whole clearly exists and getting other people into the hobby and THEN to get them to move away from the cultural hegemon is something most people deal with in some fashion or another if they have irl tablesAnd god help me if I ever voluntarily play with the people now infesting this board who, themselves, cannot find games irl to satisfy them for various reasons that almost all likely speak to their own personality defects
>>97879583>>97883320>>97884084The realization that our own culture and government would gleefully see us die is the sort of counter-weight that makes these posts so much worse.
>>97888006It's getting hard to not see just being alive as a revolutionary act at this fuckin point
>>97887979>If I say some dumb bullshit and someone tells me its dumb bullshit, that means I'm right!
>>97888118Continuing to prove his point by acting in such a childish fashion. I can only assume you don't behave this way in front of other people. If you do act this way in front of other people, I'll remind you that you have to be 18 to use this site
>>97887902Since the official setting and where Stonewalkers ends takes place during the one year span between book 3 and 4, I've got plenty of time to run sessions where I only have to plan around future events instead of current ones, though I might eventually do a timeskip (in my mental timeline, the players won't even notice) to get to the events of the 4th book, if I run out of things to do.So for this time gap, the events which were either alluded to in the books include the manufacturing of the Fourth Bridge, the fall of Herdaz (which there's not much info about), plus all the plot hooks in the World Guide. I'm also tempted to shelf the player's characters when Mistborn drops, that way they'll still have playable characters for when the Shadesmar module drops, but they'll probably be way over the recommended level depending on how many sessions I run between now and then (I try for every two weeks but it's been a month since my last session because one player is always busy).
>>97888153Pretending to be smug intellectual doesn't salvage a terrible argument, friendo.
I would like a pastebin with the image hashes of the spammer's commission so I can add them all to my filters.
>>97889101You're in luck. It was the only pastebin link in my history since my last cache purge.https://pastebin.com/R3eynwKB
>>97878423Yes but I don't want to talk about it with bots piloted by intelligence agencies trying to make the board shittier.
>>97889101How do I set up such a filter?
>>97889441Man, I feel this to my core ngl but the only way we can combat this incessant bullshit IS to talk about it, what we love about TTRPGs and why we care about their continued viability to be a game. It sucks, it really does, but we have but only one power to use against them so we might as well use it. Sorry for being a Optimistic Ophelia but that's just how I see it. Anyone gota better plan because I'm all ears.
>>97889702>It sucks, it really does, but we have but only one power to use against them so we might as well use it.No. These are people who exist outside of the internet and outside of the internet pressure will affect them.

Satantango is unironically one of the most kino movies I've ever seen, ans nobody believes me because it sounds so fucking pretentious
>>97879583Live out of spite for a world that wants to see you dead.
You're all massive hypocrites. You talk about this board like there's something terribly wrong with it (there is), that you would much rather go back to the comfy times you had discussing games like before the culture shift, but then you look inside those games and they're full of conflict, chaos, and combat, DELIBERATELY engineered discord for your entertainment. You make worlds that suck to be in, and then you have the stones to complain about how your own little snippet of reality is sucking. Karma's a butch, innit.
>>97880898Seethe more nogames.
I'm actually in a weird situation now. I did actually stop being nogaemes and now I go to events and know some people in the Nottingham industry. But now because it's kind of a niche with small but known companies I can't really post about it without doxxing myself. Then again Louise Sugden used to post here.
>>97878423I use TTRPGs as one of my many avenues for escape from this suicide-provoking world yet I don't think I've ever had a wholly positive experience playing them. Even the games that start off strong run out of steam very quickly and the group dissolves. Sometimes, I'll just leave the group prematurely over the dumbest and pettiest shit imaginable. Frankly, I blame myself for being a miserable bitch who keeps searching for that "perfect game" yet never being satisfied with what's in front of me. What's worse is that my own games are mediocre at best, which makes me not want to take on the role of being a GM anymore. It all makes me question if this hobby is even for me.

>>97891922Are you that guy in every puckee thread trying to convince people that you're only here to agitate them by loudly bitching that people shouldn't complain about puckee threads? Because if not, it's unfortunate that we've got two colossal faggots who act just like you.
