The Stilt Mechancius model needs to be squatted.
That model is too silly even by 40k silly standards.

Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum.
Get rid of them and the worst players and secondaries disappear instantly.

Something weird that I noticed is that the alphas in the new hastarii are equipped with the main weapon even though the model doesn't appear to carry it. Kinda wish they had a way to include it.

I am seriously thinking about acquiring a stormraven. I know flyers are shit but GW keeps squatting shit I thought would be cool, like the eldar webway gay as terrain. Flyers are cool I like the models where people replace the dumb see through stand with shit like the canopy of a forest, the side of a building or a mountain cliff like the vehicle is flying over it or launching missiles and shit.

Warhammer isn't 'expensive' in any of the subgames if you're just buying one of the starter boxes- saw a guy on ebay selling the old Wood Elf/sylvaneth box for 65 bucks, 500 points of models- but once you get into the nitty gritty and aren't just buying intercessors or kabalites as footsoldiers and instead more obscure models like a voidraven suddenly you're paying 80 bucks for a single vehicle where you got your third raider used for 30 bucks with no crew except the gunner.
>>

Someone posted the other day that tyranids were a bad army for kitbashes and conversions and all I could think was "what the FUCK?" Nids are one of the best, if not the best army for kitbashing and conversions. Just about every pre-10th edition kit has limbs on balls and sockets so you can mix and match between kits of similar size easily. Those kits pretty much all have a ton of left over bits too which can easily be turned into almost anything you want. Cut off the pieces of a bunch of extra guns and glue them together, or glue them onto the side of a head or onto arm stumps or whatever you want. Turn them into vents or new heads or whatever. The bioengineered monstrosities concept means you can glue basically anything to anything and it'll "work" and it's much easier to green stuff the irregular organic shapes to hide joins and such than it is on regular armoured humanoids.
>>
>>97906376
Incubi prospects have to kill an aspect warrior to get inducted too.
>>
>>97906376
feels more like master asia.
>>
>>97906397
I appreciate the idea but I have a hard enough time telling which claws or penis guns are which. Tyranid designs are so similar that only an eagle-eyed 'nid player would even realize you changed something.
It's like kitbashing Necrons who aren't destroyers, your hands are tied in a lot of ways.
>>
>>97906378
>Get multiple game systems all to themselves
They kinda did win.

>>97906397
>The bioengineered monstrosities concept means you can glue basically anything to anything and it'll "work" and it's much easier to green stuff the irregular organic shapes to hide joins and such than it is on regular armoured humanoids
kek I don't remember correctly, but didn't the 4th/5th edition codex allow you to basically do this by attaching the arms you want for the traits you want or something?
>>

I thought I had a point there, oh well.
>>
>>97906397
Yeah I remember thinking the same exact thing, literally one of the most retarded posts ever. Old Tyranid codexes went out of their way to show you how kitbashable all this shit was, not to mention all the old White Dwarf articles when those kits came out with interviews from the creators were literally explicitly saying the nids had been designed with that in mind, like it wasn't already obvious.

Some seriously dumb fuck anons in these threads some days man...

>>97906441
Because Ratlings cannot become Assassins, the same way they cannot become Astartes or Custodes.

For the record, Assassins are the most rare and most elite of all of those things btw. This makes Space Marine players seethe, not to even mention Custodesfags, but Assassins are even more elite and powerful one-to-one than Custodes.

Remember there are roughly one million Space Marines, there are Ten Thousand Custodes, and there are only a few hundred Assassins per temple, and Assassins can only be unleashed by direct decree of the High Lords they are so valuable and powerful, whereas the other two groups pretty much operate autonomously.

>>
>>97906718
They're kind of at the whims of chaos I guess. They have no way to recognize, detect, or stop psykers. Most of whom, without training, just become possessed.
>>
>>97906718
They do psyker things.
Most likely get taught to control and use their powers from a young age.
Also they are probably less likely to become daemon portals because Tau society is less stressful than living in some awful shithole underhive of the Imperium where some ganger might just torture, rape and eat you. And not always in that particular order either. And if you ever get discovered, you might get thrown into 1 of the blackships, which is basically just imperial underhive but in space.
>>
>>97906718
We might know if James actually cared about the tau empire to flesh it out properly, but from what we do know they just exist. There is in official writing at least one inquisitor in the gue'vesa ranks, and of course the nicassar are all psykers too.

orks, necrons, and tyranids are least. them being so weird and non-human results in them filtering out most people who would attach their ego to their dudes.
custodes, and grey knights are most because they’re super powered humans, so it attracts people who indulge in power fantasies.
>>
Can someone help me find this image? I remember back in either 2020 or 2021, maybe 2022, there was some big ass tournament and an Adeptus Mechanicus player ended up winning the entire thing. They drew chibi versions of the meta armies with a Tech Priest celebrating, Custodes crying, Eldar sad, and I forgot who the fourth one was.
>>
>>97906778
Most GSC shit is just stolen imperium shit, since most GSC specifically infest imperial worlds.
I don't think many people realize that. Or actually think about it.

Also the shit GSC use being just as good as other factions weapons is mainly and mostly a gameplay abstraction. It's just for balance reasons.
>>
>>97906815
Speaking of Adeptus Mechanicus, are they hard to paint? I can't tell because the video I watched of a person painting them made it look like it was as easy as painting a Space Marine and an Eldar.

I know the Imperial Guard is larger than the rest of the Imperium's forces combined, but really, how large (as in how many soldiers do they have) are:
>Sisters of Battle
>Adeptus Mechanicus
>All Space Marine chapters

compared to each other?

Waifus are great, but Crpgs, let alone fuckin owl cat, are not good for writing romances. Closest I’ve come to decent romances in a “western” game is from corruption of champions where you can impregnate a mouse to repopulate her dying race or portals of phenron with the wandering bum who starts of being your friend. The latter I’m pretty sure is made by a Spaniard.

Anyways, war-hammer 40k. I’d say I’m surprised there aren’t quality romance stories for warhammer outside of ao3 but gw is hard on fan content.

I can understand the trees just being a style choice, and not caring whether or not it necessarily looks right, but the bulkhead jutting out is insane. way too small of a detail for him to be trolling, and there’s no way he accidentally put it there because it wouldn’t be in the instructions, so he’s got to be a genuine retard who just smashed shit together with no thought as to why something is the way it is.

TQ, knights, chaos knights and agents. Not as models, but as independent armies. Make ally rules that make them interesting to include as part of a force, but fielding just walkers or just inquisitors as an "army" is to the detriment of the game as a whole. Without knights you could have infantry-focused terrain rules that actually make sense without having to shoehorn in a patch for the one army that's all vehicles.
Agents are just a mess, a complete rewrite of their rules could salvage them, but squatting the faction to make better soup rules is probably better, because it's cool to let different imperial armies bring assassins and specialist squads and shit.

If James really wanted more girls to play the game, they would not just randomly add women in armies but instead make a complete army catering to the global women taste. An army not exclusive but made with women first in mind. New armies need to be made with this in place instead of trying to get players who already have their own armies
...I don't know what they would do for that though, what does women generally likes which would fit the world?

This is pretty much a pointless endeavour. There's like an entire cohort of fandom women horned up for Dark Eldar after the release of Marazhai in Rogue Trader, but GW is totally incapable of meaningfully interacting with this fanbase.

They're removing the slaves and sexiness from Vect's new model. This fanart of Vect was drawn by a woman by and almost entirely shared by women. GW either does not know what women want or is too frightened to give them it.

My experience with women (successfully) getting into wargaming is anecdotal by its very nature of course but even such a small sample was clearly showing a pattern.
>Women are not interested in the list-building and meta-chasing at all.
They are allergic to grinding through tables of traits, abilities, wargear etc. All four of them LOVE AoS Spearhead for that very reason. They were very positive about Combat Patrol at first but with Spearhead around they simply got bored with it.
>Women have much shorter attention span than men and easily drop the hobby that gives them the feels-bad moments.
I literally had to let all four of them win their first games, otherwise they would not try for the second time. That was my wife's advice and it worked wonders. Women would rather play four 30-minute games than a single 2-hours game because in case of a lose, they want to play again immediately in hope of scoring the win. It's a very childish behaviour of course but if you keep this in mind it's really easy to engineer a tailored environment that lets them farm enough feels-good points to not get frustrated.

>Women either self-insert fully or pick an army that makes self-inserting almost impossible IF they care about the narrative aspect at all
You give a man a Barbie-doll, he will play with it as a female accountant or pulp-era female adventurer. You give a girl a He-man figure and she will put lipstick on it. When a man picks a Black Templar army he will often simply follow the lore and in-world conventions and don't change much about the core of the army. Woman playing Black Templars would turn them into panthera-riding amazons in Sailor Moon uniforms because she wants to be a panthera-riding Sailor Moon herself. Of course women instinctively feel something doesn't checks out here but they won't give it any deeper thought - feel-good moments are not present, therefore they lose any interest. That's why women often go for the narrative-less options like Tyranids, Sylvaneth (they don't care about self-inserting as a Treelord, they just like pretty trees), Nighthaunt, Lizardmen etc. My wife plays Ghosts and she has only one named character - Olynder herself - and gives no fuck about giving any other model in her army any background because she can't self-insert herself enough. That's why adding female Custodes or mixed-gender Guard squads won't help in getting their attention since for most women it's either all or nothing. SoB should do the trick then but many women find basic bitch human factions boring. If they are supposed to waste time and money on a fantastical hobby, they actually want to have a deeply-personalised fantastical experience. Ladies in my group play respectively: SoB and Sylvaneth, Dark Eldar and Nighthaunt, Tyranids and Vampire Counts (Vampire smut self-insert, I shit you not) and Dark Eldar and Seraphon. One of them considers starting a Night Lords army, I will let you guess which one.

I was watching 2 tweak femboy canadian shop owners talking about this on youtube and one of them brought up chuds and gatekeeping as reasons why women aren't interested in 40k and I was like, naw nigga its the game itself. Its so fucking autistic that its a repellent for normie women (not all women I know your aunt played through The Campaign for North African ).

They're reasonably durable for a Damned unit and can deepstrike on turn one, which isn't nothing, but outside of that they're an okay melee unit in an army that's got absolutely no shortage of potent melee threats. In an army like guard they'd probably be taken but in CSM they're outclassed by even 5 chainsword legionaries. If they got battleline with the chaos cult detachment they'd probably be a more attractive choice.

It would enables more variety in them + introduce other abhumans (almost all of them still are not available in the game, only in the lore)
I doubt this will ever happen because I don't think many people would buy this. I feels like any potential new faction in the near future will prioritize easy sells to avoid any mistakes they have done. even if it's boring.
>>
>>97907912
Interesting concept but while there’s room here to explore, it’s probably more financially viable to just make abhuman Kill Teams and then backport them into 40k.

the issue with future new armies is that most of the interesting ones would be very risky to do saleswise, but the most of the more boring ones also don't really need to exist.
like what next, will they have firstborn as their own armies because it's safe to do?
I hope James will at some point stop playing safe and make some actual new armies which changes things hard. As much people memed on the Blue Fish Boys, at least they really felt novel and a bit daring.
>>
>>97907912
Not as a new faction, no, but I wouldn't be opposed to a detachment of the imperial guard that expects you to specialise on the abhuman units
>ratlings for long range anti-personnel
>ogryns for close quarters anvil unit
>squats (new) for long range anti-tank
>beastmen (new) for close quarters hammer unit
>longshank (new) for a living tank
throw in some kind of "abhuman regiment command squad" that's made of a beast handler/slaver and one-off fancy cameos like a nightsider radio specialist, a felinid banner bearer, and a pelager bodyguard, and there you have it, a perfectly self contained small force that you can choose to specialise in or slot into the normal guard

even though I don't particularly like imperial beastmen to be honest with you

Stop projecting schizo, I never said any of those things. I only said that AL has no themed bits nor miniatures in 40k, therefore I see no reason to cram a scalie-fag head on defiler's sprues. Despite playing Word Bearers, I don't think there was a point in adding a separate head for them either.

If you hadn't notice, this is the game this thread is dedicated for.
>>
>>97907970
You never asked for miniatures, you asked for proofs of them having an aesthetic in 40k, and they do, there's plenty of artwork giving them their own look, that's significantly more different from the standard black-legion-themed miniature than word bearers are to it.

If you are genuinely going to argue that no faction should be catered with their own bits unless there were already miniatures with exclusive bits for them then you're essentially arguing that no faction ever should get added to the game or expanded upon.

Back when GW(citadel) produced models for Runequest the goat head Broo were the most common kind of beastmen models they sold, eventually GW made Warhammer and included Beastmen in that to try to sell the models to more people. The goat head just became the default beastmen look for GW, even though they can look like other kinds of animals too, such as rhinos.

Separately it's also because it looks like that one Baphomet depiction with the goat head.

>they can look like other kinds of animals too, such as rhinos.
I remember in a Gotrek and Felix book where a bray shaman is turning empire knights into beastmen, there were also deer, bear and elk headed beastmen which would be cool. Althought I wonder about being horned and rhino headed beastmen on a bipedal humanoid body, the weight of the horns and antlers would make their necks very immobile if not break them over time from the weight. Those probably do exist somewhere within the galaxy.
It's more of the case that goat headed + bull headed beastmen just happen to be the generic/default look of Beastmen as a whole.
It's like how Ultramarines are the "default" space marine that you see the most of. That's basically it.

If you want to use some 3rd party figures of beastmen. Say like beastmen with ursine heads, or even eagle headed ones. No one is gonna care, I doubt people at GW stores would care either.
>>
>>97908619
You either read it whole in the release order or you behave like a secondary, looking up for a guide to the HH series, skipping some books, etc.
>>
>>97907388
I do believe the lack of warlord traits is what makes 10th edition so focused on named characters. Previously named characters were almost always forced to be warlords, so during list building you had an active choice between a generic HQ with one of your armie's/subfaction's warlord traits or a named character. Right now that choice doesn't exist so you always take the named character.
>>
>>97907941
Yeah, this would be a cool way to do it.
Getting some new kits for imperial squats would be neat. Also would be really cool to see more obscure stuff like the Longshanks or Pelagers.

It's not really viable/make sense for mainline 40k, but I'd like to see the "scalies" abhuman getting a model in Necromunda, since they are an abhuman native to Necromunda, at least implied that way. I like to imagine they look like pic related.

it's actually just to fix the mistake fw made with the excessively tall cerastsus and to pave the way for the complete removal of fw knights from 40k knights

the normal knight, the dominus and the destrier are virtually the same class of knights, just with slightly different specialisations, there's no spectrum from armigers to dominus, it's just two tiers: armigers and actual knights

I doubt they'd leave much behind, the necrodermis bodies they have are pretty much just the prison holding the actual shard.

I think I remember reading that the shard being unleashed from the body destroys/unravels everything in it's vicinity before escaping.
>>
>>97909519
you cannot destroy a ctan, nor one of its shards, you can beat it into submission back into its tesseract cage or you can shard it apart further, but there's no way to kill it

demons rule apply, whatever your plot requires it can happen:
do you want your dudes to fashion a battle standard from a strip of its living metal flesh left behind from its defeat? you can do that
do you want there to be absolutely nothing left but a crater, with the ctan retreated into a pokebox or teleported back into a distant vault? you can
do you want the reiterating ctan to leave behind an empty shell as a wound in the fabric of spacetime? sure, knock yourself out

>they're IF successors that side eye BTs
so I doubt their reasoning for having an emperor champion would be the same, or that they would follow the same doctrine of having a marine leave behind all its identity and armor honours to embody that role

you could turn that on its way completely, instead of making it a honour you make it a punishment, maybe your chapter's champions are the ones they elect to send to the feast of blades, and if they return defeated but alive they have to be on penance, stripped of their identity, doused in blood ahead of a battle and sent to fight until they improve themselves enough to win the next feast of blades or die trying

I'm not saying it has to be a questoris, I'm saying it presents itself as an equivalent alternative but was made too big, so it doesn't pass as one.

Cerastus aren't meant to be more important or more powerful or higher ranking, but making them this much bigger undermines that.

>>
>>97909638
At their inception knights had nothing close to this extent of size differences and all the patterns were equivalent to one another, the highest ranking and powerful knight could be of any of the patterns.
Meanwhile now fw made titan sized knights, it breaks households structure.

Eldar completely fail at capturing the feel of Tolkienesque elves. They are supposed to be the lingering remnants of a bygone age of heroes and legends; beings quite literally closer to God and the early days of creation. A good elf story is one where, though they may be diminished, a glimmer of that bygone age is relived through them in the form of might or wisdom. 40k Eldar can't do this because:
A) We don't know enough about the Eldar of old, we're mostly just told they were big stronk and that's it.
B) 40k authors never seem to let the Eldar have a genuine win outside of a few small blurbs in their own codex. On the contrary, they are the punching bags of the setting.
>>
>>97909655
>I always thought Cerastus were supposed to be on of the those 700 point fancy ones
Why? It's not a prophiyrion. It's taller than the questoris but a lot thinner and fragile looking. It exchanges structure for agility and speed. It's not a direct upgrade but a tradeoff. Works perfectly fine.

Let's look at the Eldar books of note:
1) The Path of the Eldar series, where a single successor chapter and some guardsmen somehow invade a major Craftworld and only leave after the protagonist of the third book character BEGS the marine chapter master to go home.
2) Valedor, where two major Craftworlds have to rally alongside Dark Eldar to beat the Nids on a single planet, scoring a victory only after a bunch of Farseers blow themselves up with a McGuffin bomb (the Darkies thought it was hilarious). This is the best Eldar novel.
3) The Ynnari novels, so good GW decided to pull the plug on them before trilogy even wrapped up
4) Phoenix Lord series, I couldn't get past the first half of the Jain Zar book. Ask somebody else if the Eldar actually do anything cool. Since it' s Gav Thorpe writing, I doubt it
But hey, that's just shitty Black Library stuff. Let's look at campaign books! Like Pheonix Rising, where Jain Zar, Lelith, The Ynnead, The Visarch, Yvraine, and a Solitaire lost to a astral projection of Shalaxi Hellbane or some shit. This of course results in the Ynnari failing to achieve their goals.

>>97909626

Gav Thorpe literally wrote a white dwarf article about how it was his main intention to make Eldar seem "arrogant" by losing all the time. It's grimdark, you understand, to have a faction that does nothing but die and never does anything cool EVER. They quite literally got the guy who is one of those "I FUCKING HATE KNIFE EARS" larpers to butcher one of their most important factions.

I'm pretty sure that in internal documents its now considered a core pillar of Eldar storytelling. The eldar story bible for new GW authors:

1. Eldar must always take casualties.
2. Eldar have the gift of foresight, but it must always be ironically punished and never actually useful (our customers are too retarded to question why a race would continue to use foresight if its this awful)
3. Eldar can never truly win, that would imply hope for the future. Instead, humiliate them at ever turn.
4. Eldar can NEVER be better than a space marine at anything.

You even see this in Prince Yriels fluff from the new 500 worlds campaign book, where the Eldar were barely holding their own against the human conscripts of his super station but when the marines came back they wholesale slaughtered the Eldar with "only Yriel holding his own against transhuman fury". An Eldar subfaction main character is literally below the level of a nameless random marine. This is just garbage writing, and undermines the core conceit of 40k which is every faction is cool and awesome. It makes no sense from a meta, narrative or business sense, but GW is just a fail upwards type of company so nothing will change.
>>
>>97909934
