Re: what are you looking forward to into Reality Fracture>>97907078#I’d just settle for a blue or red Rampant Growth or Nature’s Lore/Three Visits and a white Sign in Blood. Maybe even a black Negate but you lose life equal to the countered spells CMC. That still might be too heavy duty though.Of course what I expect we’ll see is a green Mana Drain that can’t be countered and in your next main phase lets you put lands from your hand into the battlefield equal to the mana cost of the countered spell. Still will cost 2 colored manaThat + a green WrathOf God and groomers of the coast will have finally given the game completely to green-troons which seems to be their core game plan (aside from grooming youths
>>97912988Original Kamigawa block was famously a low performing set. MTG nerds don't give a shit about asian stuff unless it's gooner shit or generic anime stuff.
>>97913347Original Kamigawa underperformed because it was scaled down in power and hot off the tail of Mirrodin.People liked the aesthetics, it's just that the cards themselves were bad.
>>97913347So Neon Dynasty must have been a top performer, then?

If you believe the notorious liar, that's on you, bit it was one of the points brought up by players at the time.
>>97913340Its a very one dimensional deck, and out of the box it can go hard, but its very sluggish compared to other precons as of late. What it costs now is very much where it should be.
I recently found out Nissa is short. Like, 5'2" short. That's dwarf tier short. But she's an elf. I can't get it out of my head. I have a real problem with it. It's making me dislike her just knowing she's basically a hobbit with pointy ears. It's fucked up.
>>97913408I'm just new to mtg and normally see precons going 60+ and way higher. I saw precons people say are shit like the fallout science one still being 50 bucks made me wonder if blight curse was just terrible.I think most people complain about the decks ramp but thats a cheap fix from what I know.
>>97913430>Fallout Precons were badOne of them was, one of them is just okay, the other two a very strong. They are so expensive because UB has limited prints compared to UW precons.
>>97913386>Straigh from Maro's mouth. If you believe the notorious liar, that's on you, bit it was one of the points brought up by players at the time.I don't buy it. The biggest criticism from nearly anyone in the MTG fandom that I've seen is always the power scaling. I can maybe, MAYBE buy that people were off-put by how radical the art direction was at the time, and know that people took some offense to its portrayal of shintoism. But beyond that, people largely praise it in hindsight and even mention it as a well balanced and written set that was just underpowered when sandwiched between Ravnica and Mirrodin, and overwhelmingly mention that as their reason for not liking it.
>>97913371Wasn't it? Last I checked Neon Dynasty did really well.

Just a big guy that either will die to removal or will allow you to reuse your instants and sorceries few times.
>>97913386I can only say anecdotally but literally everyone I have ever talked to in real life about kamigawa is that the art and ideas behind it were cool as fuck
>>97913422Elves are shorter than humans in 90% of settings except LoTR, including D&D
>>97913521Which makes sense, being lithe and quick in a forest is usually better if you are short.Same reason why Amazon tribes have on average lower heights. 5'4" being on the tall side.

>>97913521And no one takes elves seriously outside LotR. Coincidence? Unlikely.
>>97913146VGH... The time of retvrn draws nearer by the day.
>>97913386In the wake of UB+hat sets there's a lot of dishonest historical revisionism being thrown around by the mtg community. Mind you Magic players aren't the most honest or intelligent fandom in the first place, but it's hilarious how blatant some of the lying and cope about "muh golden age of magic" gets to people who lived through it and know exactly what people actually thought of those things at the time.
>>97913546I'm reading through it and don't see a lot of people really talking about the language barrier. Also. Just throwing in my ACKSUALLY here, the gojuon is 50 syllables and with the exception of は and を, the language is shockingly consistent in terms of words being pronounced exactly like they're spelled. The biggest hurdle for English speakers being that "i" is a long "ee" sound, "e" always being a long "ay" sound, and double consonants extending the previous vowel sound.
Pulled Food Chain and don't really want to do cedh stuff with it, so I'm thinking about using it for the Ygra deck I've been wanting to build. Any tech for using it for value plays or more unique combos that require lots of pieces?

>>97913937>you deserve your own autistic sufferingIm not the one in denial that kamigawa 1.0 was a flop btw
>>97913941Are people denying it was a flop? It has a super awkward power level with severely overcosted cards after Mirrodin. The problem with raising the power bar is that you can never properly lower it again because people just won't use the worse cards over good ones. Things like Bushido could've easily been significantly better and just given the creature +X/+X while blocking/attacking instead of only when being blocked/blocking but leaving them vulnerable to low power removal otherwise, etc. Several Kami are extremely underwhelming and the Ogre + Oni synergy was a great idea that only got to be good in like 3 cards.
>>97913953>Are people denying it was a flop?Ofc, you have anons insisting that kamigawa 2.0 being cyberpunk anime was a mistake, that it would have been more successful had it gone back to shintoism and mononoke that the average american isnt aware ofreminder that a lot of mtg players dont even watch anime how much more do you think they'll be aware of japanese mythology
>>97913961>kamigawa 2.0 being cyberpunk anime was a mistakeit was>it would have been more successful had it gone back to shintoismprobably not
>>97913961The shintoism and the mononoke isn't what caused it to flop whatsoever, that was released in the early 2000s where weeb culture was at a fever pitch in America. The problem is the cards were extremely bad.On the other hand, Kamigawa 2.0 being cyberpunk would've been better if the cards were also not shit. I think the real takeaway is that Kamigawa gets gems in a massive pile of shit whereas planes like Mirrodin just get broken shit at all rarity levels.
>>97913986Theros 1.0 is also a weak set overall (haha born of the gods) if you remove thoughtseize and nykthos but people were ok with it, partly because greek mythology is taught in classes while japanese isnt
>>97913898>Thanks for admitting americans cant pronounce 5 vowels proving maro right, even now i still roll my eyes whenever i hear "Raiyusei"Who fucking gives a shit?Americans are the only ones who even get worked up about stupid shit like this in the first place. You think nips give a shit that they can't pronounce a name like "Liliana" correctly, fuck no. >>97914083Pick 21 cards that cost more than 4 mana out of a hat.
>>97914105>any slight variations on consonants (especially on proper nouns) can easily be brushed off as having an accentThat's different, and you're failing to understand why.The first is an ESL trying to and struggling with English. That's fine. The second example, リリアナ, isn't even an attempt at trying to speak English, it's just a bastardized attempt at making a loan word. It's such a regular occurrence, especially with double consonant sounds, that when it gets translated back to English it's often takes on an entirely new meaning. And you know what? That's also fine. That's a Japanese person talking to a Japanese person in Japanese, they aren't grading each other's English pronunciations. So please understand, you are a massive twat for judging an English person who is speaking English for having trouble with a loan word like raiyusei, because they aren't even trying to speak Japanese in the first place. Quit giving a shit
>>97914139>Quit giving a shitbut that's exactly why kamigawa 1.0 will never come back, because people did give a shit about weird sounding namesyou can hate maro for a lot of valid reasons, but even a broken clock is right twice a day

Can anyone explain the competitive part of bracket 5/ cedh? Competitive commander to me is playing the game. I usually play b4, the games go to turn 9, 10 but one can often ramp out their 7 or 8 cost commander by t3 with mox, have a response in hand with FoW etc.Playing like that is strategic like chess but also luck of the draw like poker that you’ll draw something you don’t have, whether it’s removal or protection or whatever. I played in a couple cedh lobbies today and both of them either ended in turn 4 or 6 and it was just one dude making an infinite loop happen. It wasn’t competitiveI guess bracket 4 is strategic/competive commander while bracket 5/cedh is combo-race/solitaire-commander?
>>97914363>Can anyone explain the competitive part of bracket 5/ cedh?the main difference is that in b4 you're only thinking about:>your own gameplan, not really the gameplan of others beyond just interacting with it>in b4 you want your strategy to be the best it can be without considering if such a strategy is just outclassed/outdated by nowcase in point, if your deck doesn't fall in one of these categories, it's not top tier
>>97914374Esper Midrange intrigues me, what is it?
>>97914363> 7 or 8 cost commander by t3 with mox, have a response in hand with FoW etc.man what a shitty way to play the game. what you're describing isn't "strategy" it's "im too retarded to build a deck without unlimited super-staples and im too retarded to learn how to actually play the game optimally". usually these types of players are the ones who get upset and tell me to go play cedh as soon as they get hit with a null rod or winter moon.
Ban staples.
>>97914363CEDH is optimized play. You are not playing cards with no restrictions, you are explicitly speed-running the win running the fastest, most reliable and leanest form of the deck possible. You aren't trying to do anything cool, you're trying to end the game from draw 7 to the earliest possible infinite combo, win-the-game trigger or bullshit boardstate. You will often be mulling to try and get specific openers and enablers and your deck is built to be a pile of goodstuff and cards that get you to your goodstuff as fast as possible.Broadly this makes the bracket very metagame focused because you don't have any time to durdle and your ability to win is entirely predicated on being able to keep opponents from taking it from you.Sweaty is the point; that's why I don't play it. I like having strong decks, but I also like actually playing the game for a few turns too.I'd like to make the point that Bracket 3 is not necessarily less competitive than Bracket 4, it's generally going to be slower though with more room to breathe. You should consider 4 though basically the 'open' or 'anything goes' category without quite so much dick-flattening as bracket 5.
>>97914216based I prefer the REAL celes
>>97914393>Esper Midrange intrigues me, what is it?the "fair" decks of cedhall high quality cards, no 'bad' cards like running shitty rituals in stormyou will rely on rhystic the most out of all the archetypes, to the point that you're going so far as to copy themyou develop early, not really trying to combo off t1-t2, in the hopes of grinding out people late gameall of them are blue based, and white (tithe, esper sentinel) and black (tutors) just happen to be the best colors to partner blue with for a midrange plan because otherwise red just leads to combo and green just leads to big mana

Some anon getting a boner over it isn't the same as waifu or sexualization, that's just degenerates being able to fap to anything. There's a reason every titty is downplayed or covered by camera/clothing.

>>97914484No blueberry babes in Kamigawa, I'm afraid.
>>97914455Yeah, what you’re describing is not optimized play though cause you’re not playing the game you’re just trying to hit a combo. it’s like blackjack instead of pokerwhen I think of competitive commander, I’m thinking of bracket 4, where as CEDH is not really commander at all it’s just “combo seeker”. I guess the better term for bracket 4 would be “strategic commander” or “competitive commander “ if “competitive elder dragon highlander” is the term for bracket 5, ie, not playing the game intentionally? I haven’t seen a single elder dragon as the commander in any bracket 5 deck though either so I’m not sure that CEDH is even that correct term for bracket 5 anti-gameplay.Not to mention using 2 commanders is a weak kind of pussy thing in general, keep that in bracket 1 or 2. Commander = 1 legendary creature. Not a spell, enchantment, multiple creatures, etc

I ordered it around the plandemic though, so shipping took months and months, but that's probably figured out by now.

>>97914617Magic has been Warcraft-tier cartoonish fantasyshit aesthetically outside of a VERY few artists since at least Urza's saga and it's only gotten more and more infantile since then as its totally devolved into the Disney-esque corporatefantasy aesthetic it now has. That is why I always laugh at antiubfaggots malding about Ninja Turtles and MLP in MtG. Past 1998 Magic has always been the faggiest and most immature portrayal of fantasy aesthetics/lore that was popular at the time. Nothing has been lost by switching to Fallout and Monster Hunter and God of War, wotc is just no longer pretending that they're not just ripping off the current normie fotm fantasy stories for their lore.

>>97914862>Past 1998 Magic has always been the faggiest and most immature portrayal of fantasy aesthetics/lore that was popular at the timeI don't know about that. I'd argue that Mirrodin was probably the most unique fantasy setting WotC has come up with to date.
>>97914895Mirrodin is still genuinely unique as a setting. And, of course, it's a goddamn travesty that they felt the need to throw all that uniqueness away with New Phyrexia. Alara was also interesting from a worldbuilding perspective, at least when you take into account the rules and constraints of the universe they were working within. Yeah, the individual shards can be kinda generic and lacking, but them being lacking was literally kind of the point.
>>97914083so if I cast culling ritual(kills like 10 saprolings+8 or so permanents, 18 total), then pox, then pox plague - each player has lost most of their life, permanents, and win via slimefoot or south wind avatar, shriveling rot as well. If they are still alive, use the remaining mana to ominous harvest with a fuck huge gravestorm count to finish. Issue is - lets say everyone is down to 5 life, no permanents or lands, and I have 30 copies of ominous harvest, 10 targeting each opponent. What are the odds someone can find a spell to deal with the gravestorm stack?
