I have stolen you're Butte Hold.
>>97916130>>97916152I'm having the most fun I have had with a tabletop game in years with Mechwarrior. The game me and my mate did last night was crazy fun, very tense with a lot of back and forth between units. I genuinely think people saying it's shit are just repeating a stupid opinion their favourite SlopTuber drooled out lol
Red pill me on the Steel Wolves. Are they cool?
>>97916161It's the most fun you can possibly have
>>97916161>I genuinely think people saying it's shit are just repeating a stupid opinion their favourite SlopTuber drooled out lolYou can enjoy your dead collectible gacha game all you want, I don't care. But the minis look like melted ass and it's not classic so I say it's shit, no e-celeb endorsement necessary. Blind boxes, artificial scarcity, and simplification to appeal to a lower age range are not things I care for in a game.
>>97916169They're pretty sweet. Hardcore Dark Age Clanners that try to found a new Clan, bash it out with Highlanders, invade Terra, battle the Falcons during their Desant and fight like viscous bastards on Irian. Cool colour scheme. Anastasia Kerensky is cool.I like them :)They're a faction I'd like to paint and play but I've been unlucky in Mechwarrior and only have 4 Steel Wolves tanks thus far and in Classic and AS I'm playing WoB and RotS.
>>97916181Ok buddy.
>>97916154
Does anyone have a high quality scan of Mechwarrior Technology of Destruction book? The one I found online was poopoo quality.
>>97916185Sick, a SW star would work with what you have for Classic. My buddy that is teaching me Clickytech is convinced that I like them for some reason and gave me two named characters to start so I'm going all in. I was pretty sure I told him I played Liao lol
>>97916169They're probably the clan force I'd paint up if I ever wanted a Clans force. They've a cool storyline and their scheme is interesting. Darkish brown and bright silver is fairly unique. Plus, one of my usual opponents plays Highlanders so it'd be a fluffly af faction to fight him with as the SW invade Northwind twice.
Best location to put the JJs: legs or torsos?
>>97916249Torsos if you can, if you wade into water anything under depth 1 you cannot use for jumping.
Continuing on from themes at the end of last thread:Hating on MechWarrior: Dark Age (“ClickyTech”) has become a meme rebroadcasted mostly by people who actually have no firsthand experience of it either when it was being produced or afterward. This is painfully annoying. That said, there are some big problems with the game even before you dig into the rules. Younger people probably don’t have a good sense the massive trauma Magic: The Gathering inflicted on the tabletop industry. One result was an obsession with the random, blind buy “collectible” format for selling product, and WizKids was basically founded on the idea of selling miniatures games in this format. The collectible format entails that gambling-like thrill of “cracking packs” but also serious downsides, especially over the long term, both as a matter of player frustration as well as game design.>Difficulty assembling a faction-specific force>Tons of filler game pieces choking the design space/product line>Set retirement invalidating big portions of your collection in competitive playThis is all before even considering the actual Click mechanic and other rules, which have their own problems. But these elements also had their upsides, in terms of accessibility and ease of play.Overall, it’s important to keep two points in mind:>Evaluating ClickyTech as a product range is a very different thing from evaluating ClickyTech as a game. Yes, they’re inextricably intertwined. But the greatest sin of MechWarrior Dark Age is not a matter of its game mechanics; rather it’s the collectible format.>The product line/game should also not be conflated with the Dark Age as a matter of the wider BattleTech setting. Even if you conclude that ClickyTech was and remains a piece of shit, don’t assume the in-universe era is therefore also shit.
HONOR THE DRAGON!
>>97916256Like 90% of the problems people have with MW:Dark Ag is simple: You need minis with dials to play, which means you're grabbing lots of blind-box out of print minis; which are not only out of scale with your normal minis but frankly just not very good looking.Ugly, incompatible and discontinued are big obstacles to overcome. Not only that DA mechs and BA and so on have not only IWM official sculpts that you can buy, but prints are also extremely easy to access. You don't need to play MW:DA to play DA and a lot of people therefore simply don't want.I think its performative to rag on it all the time; but it's mostly just a dead curiosity like a butterfly pinned in a box. I don't mind seeing it in the thread every once in a while, but I would find it really annoying if it got spammed regularly. It's something that's impossible to engage with beyond the surface.I got no MW:DA minis; but I do have "Mercenary Battle Armor", at least as they are now in the form of Black Wolf BA. Mine aren't painted yet so you're gonna have to settle with a promotional shot.
Questions about this map:1. Do we have better version so I can read small print?2. Dose periphery brown spots have names?3. Why magistracy feminine penis is in Martian space? Also how they managed to grow so big compared to Taurians? Gurl power perhaps?

Would the Clans have been better if they were based off the Meltrandi?

>>97916337Thx. Is that book worth buying if I'm new and want info or should I get ilclan book instead?

>>97916309>UglyA lot of the MWDA models are ugly, it’s true. But so are many of the IWM models. The truth is, a BattleTech fan can find this stuff charming. >IncompatibleShrug? MWDA models are not and were never really meant to support Classic BattleTech, so far as I can tell. MWDA is its own gaming system so whether there is cross-compatibility of components with CBT (or AS) is just irrelevant.>DiscontinuedThis is what makes MWDA interesting nowadays. It represents a bygone era. For better or worse, it’s part of BattleTech’s history. The game is especially interesting for fully integrating vehicles and infantry by default, not to mention introducing neat stuff like civilian ‘Mechs pressed into military to military service.>I would find it really annoying if it got spammed regularly. Why? This is BattleTech General and MWDA is BattleTech. It’d be best to save your health and sanity for more meaningful irritations.>>97916499Give me the details, lancemate. What happened here?
>>97916389After the death of his father, Nicholas Kerensky and his loyal harem flee the Pentagon Worlds. In exile, Nicholas conceives of a new society drawing from Mongolian traditions and niche kinks of ancient Terra. Twenty years later, he returns at the head of armies composed of later with 8-meter-tall female warriors and conquers the rebellious planets in a campaign known as Operation GIANTESS.But one of Nicholas’s most ambitious followers, Khancubine Sarah McEvedy, grows disenchanted with Nicholas’s fetish and secretly creates her own force of 10-meter-tall male warriors. For her perverted crimes, she and her followers are abjured and Nicholas calls a Trial of Annihilation against them. McEvedy and some of her followers escape, possibly back to the Inner Sphere. Even two hundred years later, even the mention of giant men drive the Clan Giantesses into a obsessive rage.

>>97916973>That's not a mech that's a 55 ton walking pile of disappointment produced in a factory of sadness!Hmm, griffin?
>>97917020Look cool, now turn on the light for pictures pls.
>>97917079Posting my Falcons, one slot open and I was thinking Ion Sparrow but still not sure. Theme is all have jump. Also bases are yay or nay?
>>97917287> Also bases are yay or nay?Eh? Bases are fine.Where are your elementals? You’re gonna need elementals. Ask anyone who plays clan a lot, elementals are invaluable for clan builds.
>>97917287A heavy mech would round things out pretty well there I think. I’d go with a Summoner or Night Gyr if you want something that’s all-eras appropriate and keeps on the jump jets theme, but Jade Hawk, Flamberge, or even a Black Python would work if you want something a little rarer.
>>97917332You can use protomechs as initiative filler instead. Cheaper, faster and longer range than Battle armor. If BA counted for initiative when mounted up or at least kept their tmm when disembarking they'd be a lot more usable.
>>97917460They're only appropriate historically for a very small slice of the game, though.
>>97917493They come into use in the tail end of the clan invasion era and technically continue to be used by some clans all the way to ilclan.
>>97917540>continue to be used by some clans all the way to ilclan.Like who?
>>97917460They’re not just initiative filler, those cluster attacks they spam can pack quite a nasty punch. Plus the mere threat of swarming a mech can make some, less experienced, players act funny around them. But more importantly, they’re actually something in the clan arsenal that’s actually inexpensive, at least if you are using BV. Something that in smaller games becomes critical.
>>97917551Hell's horses and snow ravens.
>>97917568>>97917540Use by the Smoke Jaguars once, and then use by two irrrelevant clans who never do anything, is what I meant by "a small slice of the game"
>>97917573>two irrrelevant clans who never do anythingHey man you better watch it, all 3 of us Snow Raven players will get you
>>97917493>>97917540>>97917551>>97917568>>97917573>>97917582Gotta be honest, it took me too long to realize that you all were talking about Protomechs and not Elementals. Kinda had me thinking I’d gone crazy, or entered the Twilight Zone.
>>97917573They were used by the majority of clans that existed at some point or another by the time protomechs were invented, including jade falcon and steel viper.
>>97917566Not to mention that a point of elementals can be a goddamn pain in the ass to get rid of if you’re not packing the right gear.
>>97917566Protomechs are cheaper than a point of Battle Armor so the BV savings argument is incorrect.Noob stomping is not an aspiration most units or players should really be gunning for, let alone a unit that might do something maybe if they panic and make a colossal mistake. The moment your opponents graduate from gullible idiots who don't know wtf they're doing this argument goes right in the bin.Battle armor can admittedly do decent damage if they A) get there in the first place, B) survive in range long enough to matter.
>>97917605Hang on. My understanding of Protomechs was that they were a extreme stop-gap measure Clan Smoke Jaguar concocted and deployed following Tukayyid because their numbers were too depleted to spam elementals anymore, and no longer had (or likely never did have) the industry to quickly replace all the ‘mechs they’d lost. So they developed the protomech as something in between battle armor and a ‘mech that they could produce in large numbers. But never fully gained popularity among the other clans because they encapsulated the worst aspects of both mechs and battle armor, plus adding new problems unique to the protomech.
>>97917647Yes, but the majority of clans ended up using them anyway before their popularity fell off.
>>97917079These look great! Very dangerous!>>97917287Love these too!>>97917281Eh you can see them well enough. Fun to see 32nd-century Omega Galaxy rocking around in a Coyotl.
>>97917632> Battle armor can admittedly do decent damage if they A) get there in the first place, B) survive in range long enough to matter. That’s why you put them on your fastest omnimech and run that fucker over to prime tactical positions as fast as you can.
>>97917662Of course, but now they aren't serving as an initiative sink and have to spend a full turn at +0 TMM before they can even shoot. You can't claim you're taking them for a cheap BV initiative filler and carry them around on an omni.
>fusion engines get heavier as they get more powerful>not bigger, just heavier
>>97917714They technically do get bigger if they exceed a rating of 400.
>>97917714The engine is almost the exact same size, but the shielding around it gets denser and denser to keep it contained. XL engines are also almost the exact same size, but use a lot more of much less dense shielding.
>>97917710>fling your jump 7+ mech as far up the board as you can on turn 1>drop elementals into trees or behind a hillTurn one is the designated “nobody hits anything” turn, you really don’t need to initiative sink that badly on the first turn of the game since everything will be happening at long range and probably with high TMMs. You should be able to have the elementals in position by turn 2 at the latest, which should leave plenty of game time for them to sink initiative and clog up board space.
>>97917710> You can't claim you're taking them for a cheap BV initiative filler and carry them around on an omni.I’m not. I’m taking them to wreck shit at an affordable BV so I can field more than 2 points of stuff against, what is likely, a reinforced Lance kitted to the nines. You picking up what I’m putting down?
>>97917714Ngl an xxxl engine that fills the torsos and reaches into the limbs would be funny. If for no other reason than how terrifying an 8/12 charger with masc and supercharger would be.
>>97917742Yeah, this is why I always insist that having more crit spaces doesn’t mean the equipment is “bigger” just that it’s more delicate and finicky. I know some of you are saying “no shit, Sherlock” but I have met people who genuinely equate: more crit spaces=bigger equipment. And will do all kinds of logical backflips to explain why an XL engine is bigger than a standard engine despite being lighter.
>>97917742And it costs a quarter of a billion c-bills, generates 10 heat standing still and 15 on a walk, and dies as soon as anything looks at it funny.
>>97917762XLs take up space in the side torsos where a standard engine does not, it literally is physically larger.
>>97917734If you are 7+ tiles up the board even the IS is in medium or close range if they want to be which they probably will if you're dropping elementals off that aggressively.Oh well, I suppose if you run a star of elementals it probably works due to target saturation. I should see if 5+ elemental/omni drops works on turn 1.
>>97917810That’s why you dump them behind level 1 hills. The carrier mech moved 7+ at a jump and is probably sitting at +4 TMM, and the elementals should be out of LoS because they can get full cover from a single level 1 hill. Next turn you can jump the elementals around as usual so they don’t get shot up as easily on the drop-off turn.
>>97917573And the Society, and the Word of Blake, and the Homeworld Clans.
>>97917835The way this conversation is going, I think the root problem is that anon doesn’t know how to use battle armor.
I'm starting to really like the Ilclan era. Chuds and chudites, please help. I don't want it to end like this. Not like this...
>>97917929It's just dark age+ man I don't get it.
>>97917658Are you seriously suggesting that the Clans are so dense that every single clan had to devote time, resources, and manpower to field a Star or more of Protomechs to learn that they were shit? That not a single khan was capable of observing them being fielded in other Clans and draw the conclusion on their own: “hey these things seem to be shit, I’m probably better off not bothering with them”?… don’t answer that.
Should 'PPC on the HD' trigger the Forced Withdrawal?

>>97917950>This revolutionary new standard of mech costs 5000bv and loses to two Urbies and a spunky VTOL but is 0.1% better in 1v1sYeah that sounds like clanners to me.
>>97917936Well it wasn't every single clan, but most of them did.Smoke jaguar, blood spirit, goliath scorpion, jade falcon, steel viper, coyote, cloud cobra, fire mandrill, hell's horses, ice hellion and snow raven.Protomechs were still in widespread use by the clans as late as the jihad, with their popularity falling off sharply after that, nova cat using them briefly longer, goliath scorpion using them all the way into the dark age, and hell's horses and snow raven never ceasing their production and deployment.
>>97917079>>97917287Oh I forgot to post my original emerald stravags
>>97916656>Give me the details, lancemate. What happened here? After fighting my Dragon's Fury Shiro in melee, the heavily damaged Spirit Cats Warhammer IIC backed away across the board to put some distance between him and the weeb mech. After pushing his mech, activating it again at the cost of more heat, he shot my Shiro and managed to deal a good amount of damage. I pushed my formation of Purifier and Infiltrator MKII Battle Armour infantry forward, ignoring his tank and BA, to get more shots on the crippled mech hoping to kill it. While I did a some damage to it, ignoring his non-mech units meant my lads were left standing in the face of numerous Gray Death and Purifier units who had not activated. The resulting shooting attacks from my opponent shredded my infantry and I lost many bases of Battle Armor. It was worth it though. While many proud daughters of the Amaterasu were gunned down in the name of the Dragon, the damage dealt to the Warhammer IIC meant the next attack finally brought it down.
>>97918030The infantry side of the match was a fucking meat grinder from beginning to end. Trike Squads blasted to dust by the Warhammer, bases of BA smacking the shit out of each other all across the left side of the board, my Shiro carving a path through squads of infantry with his ability to divide 5 damage between three targets per turn and so on.

Alright lads, need your guidance.I have an idea of a campaign set on a true backwater scale where, centered on infantry platoons but including some small very simple vehicles. But I’m not quite sure what to think about really small vehicles like picrel, the Scout ATV. For example, a stand of infantry represents a platoon (4x 7-man squads) … but does picrel represent a single ATV?Like one single man driving a glorified dirtbike with a mounted heavy grenade launcher?

>>97918147I didn't, but ok.
>>97918023True, the sharks never ran them.I assume they fell out of use because the mandatory DI present in protomeks as well as the number of replacement pilots amd meks they needed to fill a similar role to actual mech pilots surpassed even the Clans' low standards for battlefield life expectancy of a soldier.

Thinking about getting some of the map packs printed out and I'm wondering about portability. Some people seem to suggest that you print stuff as an 18in. x 24in. poster and stored them rolled up in a poster tube, but that's bulky. I would like to keep them in a portfolio or something else I can throw in a backpack, which seems better for printing them on normal 8.5in x 11in. paper (but I'm told this fucks up the scale). What is the best way to make the maps portable, but still keep the right scale?
Steiner garrison forceI have been playing lots of games in the immediate leadup to the Clan Invasion, you get mostly SuccWar flavor but can sprinkle in a ln upgraded mech here and there for flavor's sake.It helps a lot of the early IS "upgrades" are straight up bad
FedCom elite task forceVery high BV lance but I made them as OpFor that the players would not want to have a protracted battle with for a campaign game. Pilots are 3/4 and leader in the Banshee is 2/2. Also a decent lance to bring against Clanners without needing to run a Level II or padding BV too much. All of those mechs get serious upgrades post Helm too.

>>97919554Also, just realized this, but by that time, the inner sphere would’ve been dealing with the clans, in one form or another, for a century. They’re not exactly going to be “mysterious” or “enigmatic” anymore. Basically, the houses would, by then, be fully aware of the clans, their history, their customs, their tactics, and their tech. So they should have at least developed some new tactics for fighting them that would counter some of their bullshit. Making fighting them more manageable

What mech does The Lightbringer pilot though?
>>97919330NTA but realistically it should have been impossible to actually take Terra by just showing up in some ships and dropping mechs. Think about the amount of resources available to the Republic of the Sphere, the amount of time they had to prepare for an invasion the Clans have been talking about openly for more than a century, the entire scale of effort they would have put into defending the single most important location in the entire galaxy. Nukes would have been used. All kinds of bullshit electronic warfare shenanigans would have ensued. You cannot believe that the Republic was capable of setting up The Wall, considered destroying KF drives an acceptable price and had literally no fucking backup plans. No directed radiation weapons that would just cook pilots through their cockpit glass. No weather control devices to disrupt landing zones. No layers and layers of remote and automated defenses.Mechs would have been completely invalid as weapons at that point because the ships they arrived in would be slag before they even got past Luna.

>>97920109-or, barring getting the “correct” minis, I did see these in an online miniatures store, store says they’re supposed to be 6mm power armor, but I think they look bulky enough to pass for BA.I’m just not familiar enough with BA variants to know if they visually resemble any particular Clan or IS variants.I could use help with identifying which BA they would best proxy.
>>97920266That looks more like PA(L) than BA to me, but a lot of PA(L) and BA have pretty bulky "backpacks" with big antenna or at least fat humps in them. It could also just be regular infantry with heavy armor.
>>97920066It was and Clan Wolf did not do anything special to win. They didn't debut Double Enhanced Imaging or use some novel tactic. They just got to show up with their ships close enough to drop in Battlemechs and piloted them super good. And the best defense against the Republic of the Sphere had come up with was to also just try and pilot mechs even better.I was making up random examples of shit that RISC should have had prepared for this very, very foreseeable invasion because they literally just handled it like every piss ant backwater planet that got hit almost a century ago just at larger scale. No wacky prototype weapons were deployed. No "fuck it if we lose Terra we lose everything, just use the super weapon!" moments. No repatriating Blakists or dumping out prisons full of mercs and saying 'shoot every furry you see and we can talk later'.Look at the absolutely insane battle plans drawn up during the Cold War for an idea of what a superpower is willing to do with it's back up against the wall. The RotS should have 100% been willing to deploy nuclear weapons as an opening volley. Is it insane and completely illegal?Yes.Do you think someone in the position of Stone would have given a solitary fuck what people thought about him using them if it meant not losing the single most important planet in the galaxy to the Clans?

>>97920109They said they are remaking the Elemental sculpt and will release a new boxand the other BA/infantry got infinite hold due to how bad the ISBA turned out to be
>>97920266I agree with >>97920299Those are a little light even to be IS Standards or similar; but you could make a case for something like a P12 Tornado; which is basically a trooper-ized Nighthawk. It's light and doesn't have any weapons stapled to it (except for the G13s), so it kinda matches them carrying big-ass BA rifles.
>>97920314Stone intended to lose. The Republic couldn't last, but a new star league might. Losing was his victory.
>>97920320> and the other BA/infantry got infinite hold due to how bad the ISBA turned out to beYeah, never did pick up a box of ISBA, 1) didn’t know what they were supposed to be (only recently learning that they are called “IS standard”), let alone know where to find their stats2) BA just feels out of place among the Inner Sphere forces. Just kinda seems like mostly a Clan thing.3) I could, without knowing anything about the ISBA, could predict a number of problems with them. Most notably, Clans have a variety of ways to move Battle Armor around the battlefield, that the IS doesn’t really have and would struggle with.

>>97920494Does air-dropping from a VTOL work just like hopping off an omnimech? Like the Karnov flies across the map and then the BA get placed in the same hex and that's it?
>>97920700The entire reason Comstar uses all white for their military is that all white is ironically the black ops color. If you get hit by plain white mechs with no markings, no serial numbers, and no ID on the pilots, then you're on the wrong end of a black op. Comguard had a particularly good black op while painted all white and some dipshit thought it was so nice that they kept it going forward even after unveiling themselves publicly, which should have been yet another big giant red flag to add onto the entire pile of big suspicious red flags comstar was waving in everyone's faces, because white is the sneaky underhanded warcrime color.
>>97920756By the time the Com guard revealed themselves everyone who mattered knew comstar was basically the sixth successor state.
>>97920729That might be due to a lack of a reference of scale.Which is hard to judge.Best I can find on the site is this photo showing them next to other 6mm minis.
>>97920735As long as the BA has jump jets, then yeah, pretty much.Without the JJ, the karnov would have to land before unloading the BA.
>>97920766I bought some, they're smaller than you're probably thinking. The minis I got are very detailed, but they're only about as big as the IWM Leonidas sculpt. That does make them pretty sizable, but they're still smaller than the other Protomech minis.
>>97920771I guess that's effectively paying 499 BV to teleport your BA into place on Turn 1, but I don't know if that's worth it outside of some specific campaign mission where you need BA to secure something as early as possible.
>>97920722Please explain what you mean by this
>>97920784The trick to the BA Karnov I suppose is that dropping the BA is easy; picking them back up again is the hard part. There are cheaper options even in the Karnov itself if you don't want (or need) defensive weapons or ECM; but you get quite what you pay for.Honestly I think Cavalrys are substantially meatier and faster, though the BA Karnov is plenty cheaper in Cbills. For cost effectiveness though Warrior H-10s are even better than the Karnov though.
>>97920784It's great for slow BA like the Kanazuchi that only move 1. Without the ability to pre-deploy them, they can't reach the combat zone on their own, and a VTOL solves that. The Kanazuchi lacks jump jets, but there's a rule to deal with that in TacOps: You can deploy them via zipline harpoons launched from the helicopter. Yes, it's as over the top and ridiculous as it sounds.
>>97920859He's being weird and is referring to comstar.
>>97920868I wonder why he can't just use normal people words. Do you think he talks like this to people in person?
>>97920781Since I’ve at least purchased the basic infantry from this once already as well, so I know how tall they appear, it kinda makes it sound more like IWM’s battle armor minis are grossly out-of-scale.Which I can believe. I remember some people at my LGS once complaining about how oversized some of the mechs they bought from IWM were. And to be honest. Pictures of IWM elementals, when compared to CGL’s plastic elementals, also look wildly oversized while the plastic ones look mostly in-scale.
>>97920871Who can say?
>>97920882Yeah, they're 10mm-12mm scale compared to the mechs being 6mm. If I remember right, Protomechs are also out of scale, so it's all out of whack. I was considering kitbashing the khurasan 6mm mechs into being Grey Death Heavies since no one's made minis of those yet.
>>97920864I think the Warrior H-10 is the only one I'd use in a pick-up game due to BV squeeze.
>>97920897>>97920882I have a guy in my local group who insists that Battletech was originally a 10mm scale game and got retconned to 6mm. He's never provided anything to back that up though, and I know he's an idiot for other reasons.
>>97920907I don't know about that, but I do know pretty damn well that the metal Battle Armor at least is 10mm-12mm because the metal minis I got have Inner Sphere Battle Armor taller than any other 6mm infantry by nearly twice as much.
>>97920912Which is just disgraceful if you ask me. I mean, I know other companies do it, like GHQ has their 1:286 infantry scaled slightly bigger than true scale to get more detail, but the difference is so small you actually have to pull up photos of the real thing with people standing next to it to spot the scale difference. Having battle armor be so out-of-whack it’s nearly at a completely different scale is just obscene.
>>97920936I'd be willing to headcanon that some of the generic suits or Inner Sphere suits are big because they had to use unconventional methods to be able to compete with Clan Elementals, but it does get ridiculous as you get more minis.
On the subject of BA, what is their most useful role in all-purpose force? I haven't really found what I want to use them for, but I've got a ton of the little fuckers, enough for every faction force I have.
>>97920882Almost nothing is in scale as far as Battletech minis go. The CGL heavies and assaults are in a larger scale than their lights and mediums so they're even more biggerer than they should be, and of course IWM stuff is all over the place. It's not like the game board is actually meant to be a birds eye view of the real battle, it's more like a tactical plotting table. Probably a hologram or something in the command room of the unit's dropship.

>>97921000Celestials are all equipped with small cockpits, anyone can pilot them, the militia were given a few. But, owing to the small cockpit, it would be unwise to give them anything short of an above average pilot to counteract the PSR penalty.
>>97920907Probably an idiot since the mechs were the 1st thing ever made for the game, and they’ve never been massive.
>>97921027PA(L) are the worst kind of battle armor instead of being the best kind of infantry.

>>97921033This, PA(L) are lumped with Battlearmor rules.
>>97921027They use the same rules as Battle Armor. They're like ultralight BA, which means they're actually pretty shitty. Tornadoes have like two pips of armor, one infantry rifle per suit, and aren't any faster than normal infantry. And they come in groups of six, so they don't even shoot as hard as a squad of rifle infantry (because that's seven rifles). They can be good spotters due to being hard to hit from a distance and could sit in a building if that's an objective but they're not good for much else. If it didn't warp initiative really badly, I'd say take whole platoons/level IIs of them, but I personally wouldn't do that without houseruling their initiative so they move by platoon rather than by squad.

>>97921200The Clans respect success. They're not a death cult, you don't have to die young, it's just that if you live a long life without earning distinction then are you even trying? Such people should have the decency not to use up valuable clan resources to perpetuate their mediocrity, so dying in battle is seen as at least providing value while preserving honor. Your blood-named rockstars get respect at all ages because they are blood-named rockstars. They provide value that would be irresponsible to waste, and they will be respected as long as that remains true.
>>97918710I would imagine the average soldier in the inner sphere is an infantryman. Mechs should be somewhat rare actually.
>>97921200It's a really aggressive form of up or out where you need to be constantly being promoted, It's fine for blood named senior officers to be old as long as they keep winning. If they ever lose obviously they are too old and need to have their throats cut by their subordinates right away.
>>97921200The Clans loathe old people that haven't proven themselves and earned sufficient glory. Like a BloodName. If you were just Anon, aged 30, then your ass is getting a solahma posting. But if you were Anon Moot, who had earned his BloodName in the Trial of BloodRight, then you are getting the respect you deserve as a decorated veteran who sits as part of the Clan Council of Clan 4Chan. And as long as you're in a posting where you get sufficient action, none will question it. If you don't, then you're expected to have to retake your Trial of Position to prove that you're still fit for duty to the Clan. All that is of course discounting your peers and those above and below you trying to start shit for their own gain.

>>97923128That's what I mean, there's no plot related to them being there, only to the boss clanners.
>>97923173Do peak Dark Age and start with a bunch of IndustrialMechs and battle armor
I just realized that new periphery book will probably have at least a little bit on the Brotherhood of Randis, since it's supposed to go up to at least around Filtvelt. Maybe Operation Trident will even get some meat to it finally. If that ever gets a focus, that's going to be my campaign.
Dark Age-era Jade Falcons are cool.

>>97923476Adder Crusader will run head long into the neo-blakist turbojihad.

>>97923685I am just impressed they managed to last this long considering their plan was originally to become World of Tanks mechwarrior edition and then do absolutely everything in their power to fuck it up at every turn.
>>97923732To be fair, speaking from recent experience, mechwarrior online is an infinitely more enjoyable experience than the nightmare that is modern world of tanks. You'd have to pay me to play current world of tanks.

Well hopefully we can get a wider range of vidya out of this than yet another sluggish sim.
>>97919922> I'm sorry can you point to the mech-scale microwave weapons,There’s no such thing. It’s just an old myth. There was this one FedCom Mechwarrior who piloted a CPK-65 that was an absolute menace among the DCMS, ComGuard/WoB, and Clans. Their pilots were the ones who started inventing stories about this pilot having a modified Copper, that it had some “experimental anti-pilot mazer beam” or some similar tall tail. None of which is true. All that happened was that he figured out that among the DCMS and ComGuard, between 75%-80% of mechwarriors were tested as neurodivergent, and among the Clans, it was suspected that the number was closer to 90%. So when he came up against them, he’d just turn on the twin searchlights to their maximum brightness and point them directly into the cockpit of the opponent mech. The neurodivergent pilot would flip the fuck out and either eject, or be rendered completely incapable of properly operating their mech allowing other pilots to bring the mech down.Guy wound up starting quite the successful mercenary company using all the mechs he’d capture that way.Anyway, the myths about the guy spread, and some units within the RotS also would pull the same trick.

I'm thinking out painting up a Steel Wolves force and can't decide which mech I want to paint up to represent Anastasia Kerensky. Before forming the Wolf Hunters or joining Clan Wolf, see piloted a Ryoken II, Legionnaire and Mangonel (although I only remember the Legionnaire only be used in one or two battles in the books). So far I'm leaning towards the Legionnaire.
