Just like crafting magical items, a subsystem I've never ever interacted in 3.5 and Pathfinder were poisons. I'm just curious if anyone has actually used them. Like a lot of other things, it seems like a lot of effort for minimal reason (because it's just a lot faster to kill the bad guys.)
>>97922601i havent, but from what i've seen online alchemy is the most viable of the PF2e specialist crafting paths (none are actually good though, and i doubt its because of poisons specifically)
>>97922601There's a case to be made for situations outside of dungeon crawling I guess, but it really is situational. L5R has uses for both in and out of combat use, and ingestion out of combat is often enough superior. That said, In the name of the Montellis, motherfucker
>>97922601I don't know about D&D 3.5, but in the D&D edition I was subjected to, most creatures are either resistant or outright immune to poison, and if Pathfinder took as much from 3.5 as this board wants everyone to believe, that would make poisons equally worthless in each game, wouldn't it?
>>97922601>give players a bottle of wyvern poison>invite them to the banquet of an evil lord, who they have been asked to assassinate several times>they have several chances where the dining room is empty, they could go in and fill the cups or something>they spend all the time talking to NPCs>literally just talking, not even gathering information or resources or investigating, just wanking themselves talking>dinnertime>they all enjoy a finely prepared feast>afterwards the lord takes a young lady to his chambers and rapes her (well outside the view or earshot of the PCs, but he was being a massive creep the whole evening)>everybody goes home like nothing happened>"aw man, how are we gonna deal with this lord guys?"This didn't actually happen to Me and I made this story up but I imagine it's what would happen if I gave My players access to poison. Instead I will probably use it for My villains and bad guys when I get a good chance.
>>97922601Poisons in PF2e were balanced to match, but not exceed martial strikes damage output if everything goes according to the poisoner's plan.Which means they're dogshit in practice since they have so many points of failure.
>>97922601I would never pay money for a small chance at debuffing my enemy, especially since he's going to live for three turns max.

>>97923377That sounds like a monumentally boring experience.

>>97923377Incredibly fake and gay. Give me back the 10 seconds of my life I spent reading this shit.
>>97923377Insanely based
>>97923377Classic.
>>97922601I have use homebrews and 3rd party to use poisons and potions in my games. They can be fun if used right. However, mostly just had the potions being used over poisons. However did make potions limited as you could only use so many a day without the risk of ODing and or becoming resistant to them.
