the colors you see in a photo are completely dependent on lighting and even just viewing angle. just look at a corner of your room. you will see 2 different colors where the walls meet even though they were obviously painted the same color.

Unusual question - let's assume I want to cast, using blue stuff or similar material, element with connection holes, something similar to this one. Normally I was told to plug the holes, especially deep ones but I would later need them and precisely at location they should be. Manually drilling them later often ends with drilling slightly off or at slightly wrong angle or causing copies to break from strain, even when drilling gradually with slowly increased size of the bit.

How to deal with that problem? At very least, how to ensure that at least some sort of guidance hole will remain?
>>
>>97932478
is it a straigth cylindrical hole? or a ball one?
>>
>>97932478
Plug them most of the way, but leave the top part of the hole open, maybe like 1mm, or 1/16" of the hole. That way when you cast it you will at least have some reference or registration, but you're right that you'll never get any kind of deep holes casting that way.
>>
>>97932524
Registration for drilling them out*
I meant.
>>
>>97932251
Good volumes, anon. I think the highlights on the sleeves would be better placed on top instead of at the end.
The face is good, but make sure you darken the upper eyelid more than the lower one. Even if you leave the lower out entirely, it'll still look fine.
>>
>>97932524
Some sort of clay would be best for such plugging? I have to be able to clear the hole later.

>>97932490
Straight cylindrical.
>>
>>97932287
It's mostly down to how glossy the material is. The stronger and sharper the highlights, the glossier something appears. Leather is usually fairly smooth and reflects light to a degree, while wool has a very diffuse surface that absorbs incoming light. To make these differences extra obvious, it's good to have materials next to each other, to show the contrasting differences.
>>
>>97932530
put a tube in there, and another tube inside that one, until you have a hole of a couple milimeters, plug that then with putty and press another couple mm inside
you will have a perfectly centered pilot hole for your drill later

Still thinking about how I want to tackle this guy.
Would a purple bull with golden wings (not the arms of the wings, the middle parts would be gold) be a good fit? I was thinking if I do this I would have the rune effects glow green instead of the red here.
>>
>>97933145
Arms of the GW traitor set (as well as old and new cadians) are compatible with all the WGA Damned sets so far (except the ogres/ogryns ofc), accessories like the backpacks and cloaks with spikes also work.
I have not experimented with the heads yet, but the oddly shaped "Blooded" necks need some cutting for sure, but also cadian balljoint necks are too big and chunky sadly.
Head-size is similar, so nothing a hobby knife can't fix.

My compressor arrived in the mail, looking for some airbrushing advice.
Is a cardboard box with some foam/tissue paper to catch overspray good enough or should I get myself a more proper setup with a fan and shit before I start using it? Only planning to use acrylics so no toxic enamel fumes to worry about. Pic related is where I'll be working so I can get fresh air by just opening the door to the balcony.
>>
>>97933330
yeah its more than enough
you dont need one of the fancy ones with exhaust fans as long as youre just spraying acrylics
>>
>>97933330
>Is a cardboard box with some foam/tissue paper to catch overspray good enough
For acrylics, yeah. If you gonna keep that window/balcony open, it'll be enough for the air quality, too. If not (or for winter time), get a respirator.
I would also recommend decanting the Citadel paints into dropper bottles, because as if these faggy pots weren't bad enough, they are pure suffering to use with airbrush.
>>
>>97932901
They came out decent anon

I have some sort of decision block, maybe you could help. Let's assume that there is some sort of friendly competition, with no prizes, etc. I could enter and do either a) project I always wanted to do but would involve a lot of recasting parts or scratchbuilding, not guaranteeing that I could finish it in time or b) against my own tendencies, make project by kitbashing existing spare parts and instead aiming to use as little scratchbuild elements as possible (because I have a flaw of overthinking every element of my projects, stretching them over months as a result). Which one would you choose?

They said they will start to sell an army set and the vehicle indivdually as the first boxes, when everyone who backed the project received their minis.
And additionally, they recently posted its down to 100 boxes to ship (mainly canadians, and some guys whose extra sprues were not ready it seems).
So at least those two boxes should hit the stores soon-ish. Everything else will get an individual box release one set after another.

>Although I'm somewhat sad this probably means WGA and Reptilian Overlords won't do a plastic collaboration of RO's Heretics

True, but RO has neglected them for quite some years anyway. He never expanded that range properly, which is a shame.
But with the Heavy Infantry (some primed ones in this pic), you get some cool demon face facemasks, and somewhat german style helmets too.

I'm thinking about getting pingpong balls and airbrushing all my paints on to them to create a sort of chart for how the colors look in real life (and on a sphere for shading might be nice).
Am I being autistic or does that sound like it might actually be a useful thing to have on hand?
I could make mount them on sticks and slot them all into a grid on the wall or something with labels.

>>97934048
Yeah, I've had it for like 2 years and I still have a couple membranes leftover from the box(I paint almost every day). It's pricey but really fucking nice, it doesn't overload your paints with water and keeps the consistency you prepare for a while. If you don't mind the stupid pricetag it's a good buy. I'm not the anon that was shitting on the AP one, btw.
>>
>>97934023
Sure it would work, but why not just airbrush the caps of the paint pots? Plastic spoons are also very common for this, and they can be had for a lot cheaper than pingpong balls.

>mount them on sticks
As a kid with a pingpong table growing up, piercing the pingpong ball would ruin them. But you could make a nice wrack just but drilling out 1" diamter holes for them to rest in.

>>
>>97934058
Why are pearl clutchers like this?
>>
>>97934068
Yeah, the plan (in theory) would be to mount them on sticks by 3d printing some kind of cone shaped bits, mounting them to the end of sticks (skewers or brass rod), and then just hot glued to the pingpong balls. Then have a board with all the holes drilled at a 45 degree angle with labels to keep them on the wall.
I do have spoons though so maybe that would be better and more convenient

General advice is to buy something middle ground that have lots of cheap spare parts available because, as with normal brushes, starting out people have higher chance at accidentally damaging their tools. If it's a solid model, it could later serve as backup/priming/cleaning (because it's essentially airgun) airbrush, if you decide that you need more precision. Not some extra cheap model that would spend more time turned inside out for cleaning while you ponder why it refuse to work properly but some actually good stuff doing 0.5mm duty while your primary tool is busy with 0.2-0.3mm for details. Similar to how you buy "crop" camera at first (because it's cheaper than full frame and dedicated lenses are also easier to manufacture and thus cheaper as well) and then, after you learn enough and can decide if you really need full frame, can carry that telephoto lens while your FF is on UWA duty.
>>
>>97934991
Assuming you don't have serious doubts to whether or not you'll keep using an airbrush I'd say just get something decent straight away. The nozzle on the noname chinesium I started with was so fragile, and the floating nozzle on the H&S Evolution Silverline that then replaced it so much less fragile, that most of the learning happened on the latter anyway.
>>
>>97934991
Don't get chinkshit. HS Evolution or Iwata Eclipse are both great, proven airbrushes that won't really break the bank and will serve you for ages.

Of all the GW games I've played, Battlefleet Gothic has one of the best rulesets. If you can get your hands on some of the supplemental books and magazines that GW released after the game had been out for a while, the small tweaks make it even better. Right away, I'd recommend limiting the number of fighters/bombers/assault boats in play to the number of launch bays on all ships combined.

It takes a while to get the hang of, so you'll likely be running back to the rulebooks a lot during play, but it's pretty satisfying - especially in Imperial vs. Chaos fleet engagements where the fleets' strengths and weaknesses are fairly balanced and there's no weird stuff in play.

it never makes sense to buy shit tools unless it's something you will intentionally be destroying when you use it. it makes even less sense with an airbrush where a top of the line one only costs like $250 and you can frequently get a good one for only $100.

I'm not blaming you for this, I know you probably didn't have much choice, but god damn, did GW just forget how to have multiple poses? Not only are they all basically the same, they're the same as virtually every single new individual space marine model as well.
>>
I want to paint something different from the usual GW stuff. Is there a range of models of similar quality? Scale doesn't have to be the same. I want to paint something beautiful instead of grimy. KD miniatures are a bit too coomer for me.
>>
>>97935869
They just need a little snow in the recesses of their boots to ground them in the scene.
>>
>>97935924
>Is there a range of models of similar quality
Most of the middle range and above scale models are better quality than GW. If you really want to splurge (=pay slightly less or roughly the same as for Citadel stuff) and get a peak model, then pretty much anything modern by Meng or Takom, really.
>something beautiful
You could check some top tier 3D sculptors who also sell STLs or finished prints, like Archvillain Games. They have ridiculously large range of scifi/fantasy models, and they are all incredible. And you can get them printed in case you don't have you own printer.

>Compressor
got any good recommendations for a cheap one?
>>
>>97936199
The compressor you will buy is exactly the same compressor every body gets, at most with a different label. Every small airbrush compressor (with a tank) is the exact same product. There is literally only a single option.
>>
speaking of compressors I got a timbertech off amazon and for the first time the moisture trap actually has water in it but depressing the valve isn't releasing it is that a problem
>>
>>97936199
I use this one. It's meant for tools like nail guns and drills but you can bush it down to 1/8th airbrush fittings and adjust the pressure way down. Only thing it needs is an in-line moisture trap. It gets up to pressure quickly, has a far bigger tank than hobbyist compressors and is fairly quiet.

Got my Rinzler autarch mostly done. Still have to make the under armor a little darker, and gloss the base and faceplate. I got another set of Identity Discs printed up so I can start working on my storm guardians. I don't have any army glamor shots yet, but shouldn't be long now until the project is done.

Let me be more clear: They are painted well but they look like assets from a shitty video game like (any year) WoW (which I don't like) or clash of clans or some similarly cartoonish, overly blocky and simple, colourful, childish, style. It doesn't match my preferred style and I believe it looks like shit in a Warhammer setting. Nevertheless very well painted.

I'm not a hater, for example this looks good to me and belongs in Warhammer:

I just don't like those chorfs, or any of those gay AoS balloon dwarfs or any shitty digital AoS art. And if you do, you are homosexual(bad) and factually incorrect.

Space Marines are seemingly only able to stand heroically (with legs wide apart), run threateningly, or shoot (from the hip) to not to look like shit.
