>read why Luther betrayed Thy Lion >it's crap >"wait, what do you mean I, as a techno-knight that swore to protect Caliban, must defend Caliban instead of joining the Great Crusade?! That's it, I'm joining those evil gods that want to destroy my beloved homeworld!!">Luther realised after millennia (this guy is mentally slow af) that Lion was right and he was wrong>never becomes a "Risen Angel" >left his imprisonment thanks to the help of kako-daimons Can't there be a traitor who's well-written and doesn't sound like a moron? I can only think about Erebus, and only because he is the troll of trolls. Is it that there can't be any traitor who doesn't fall to Chaos because Chaos is literally the worst and joining it is for the mentally retarded?Yes, I also have Chaos (supernatural absolute evil) fatigue.
Magnus joined Chaos because the choice was literally that or just lay down and die, which makes sense to me. Dunno if they have already retconned that in nu-lore though.
>>97932851>Magnus: "Papa watch out" >Zeus-Basileus: "What?">*Zeus-Basileus get doorslammed by Magnus* Magnus deserved it for being a retard and not following the Council of Nikaea.
>>97932842I wasn't expecting much from modern GW but it's still disappointing that after decades of teasing there was more to Luther's betrayal they brought the Lion back and the big reveal was "oh yeah, the way it was presented in the 2E codex? That's exactly how it went down."
>>97932877Everytime a setting adds supernatural evil, the setting becomes shit. Yet,for some reason, writers can't stop falling for this cliche.PD: Truly is that the Chaos God of lazy-writing is the most powerful of all.

>>97932863Magnus was one of (,if not) the greatest authorities on the Warp, of the planet considered by the whole Imperium to be the authority for knowledge and understanding on the Warp and Sorcery.More than Terra, or any other world.Do people just forget that by all common perception, Magnus was THE expert on Warp science in any room he walked into, even if it contained the Emperor in it?The council of Nikea is less a bunch of dudes trying to see if a scientist can put aside his ego for a bit, and more a person with PhD's in biochem and genetics trying to convince a room to let him cure cystic fibrosis with 100% safety, via a spray bottle.Except the opposition is; a farmer who selectively breeds his crops but says it's totally not artificially altering genes from natural to result in a phenotype (Russ), a person who swears gene-editing is 'abominable' and 'playing god over reality' but also does it privately in his room to mice (Mortarion), and a board of people who don't even know what DNA is but who heard that vaccines apparently contain small amounts of what can be toxic in high quantities so science man bad.And the representative from the Board of Ethics sides with them for some reason.Magnus was 100% justified in ignoring the council of Nikea, given the information he had to work off, and he only fell because the game was rigged since before he was born.
>>97932842Personally I think Chaos would have worked better if it was a case of people rebelling against the Imperium due to understandable human motives (most often, a desire for freedom, but it could also be to escape crippling poverty at the hands of an incompetent ruler or whatever), struggling to survive on their own / against the Imperium, and turning to the Ruinous Powers against their better judgment out of desperation, initially just to get an edge and survive. The whole "falling to Chaos first, then rebelling" always felt kind of flat and boring to me. Like if the Chaos space magic wasn't there tempting people, everything would be fine. I'd prefer it was something people turned to after human nature had already caused them to rebel.
>>97941568the thing is that is the reason why most people end up with chaos, problem is GW focuses more on the chaos space marines since big guy in big armor sells more than john cultist with a stub gun
>>97941482>t. MagnusHe knew about Chaos.>His father told him how the ancient shamans of Old Earth could tap into these currents and wield power beyond that of other mortals. Many had sought to become gods, raising empires and enslaving all men before them. The Emperor spoke of how these men had brought ruin upon themselves and their people by trafficking with powers beyond their comprehension. Seeing Magnus’ interest, his father warned him against flying too long and too high in the aether for selfish gain. Magnus listened attentively, but in his secret heart he had dreamed of controlling the powers these mortals could not. He was a being of light so far removed from humanity that he barely considered himself related to his primordial ancestors.>“Chaos?” said Ahriman. “You use the term as if it were a name.”>“It is, my son,” said Magnus. “It is the Primordial Annihilator that has hidden in the blackest depths of the Great Ocean since the dawn of time, but which now moves with infinite patience to the surface. It is the enemy against which all must unite or the human race will be destroyed. The coming war is its means of achieving the end of all things.”>“Primordial Annihilator? I have never heard of such a thing,” said Ahriman.>“Nor had I until I faced Horus and Erebus,” said Magnus, and Ahriman was shocked to see the barest flicker in his primarch’s aura. Magnus was lying to them. He had known of this Primordial Annihilator. He knew, including when he made pacts to stop the Flesh Change. Every step of the way he thought he knew better even than the Emperor. Then at Nikaea he basically demanded everybody there let him do what he wanted because he was in fact so smart that nothing would possibly go wrong.Even the Primarchs and speakers who supported the Librarius thought Magnus was an idiot fucknugget after that speech. All Mortarion had to do was point out that Magnus was off his rocker and the Librarius was done for.
