Wouldn't they be called Spice Marines?
>>
>>97946364
No, 40k is inspired mostly by the Crusades. Rome and other parts of history because the creators were history buffs.
>>
>>97946364
40k didn't outright rip off other stories and universes as a whole, they just took some concepts and ideas.

The most obvious and direct cases that realy do come close t oa rip off are teh Arbites (from Judge Dredd) and teh Genstealers (from Alien).

When it comes to Dune, well tehy did again take some concepts, mostly the navigators. They're mutated humans required to guide starships.
Then there is the reliance on melee combat, but that is probably a ot less directly related to Dune.

>Spice Marines
Slaanesh cult Marines would fit

A blatant lie.

Those were the same artists reusing their concepts. That's different.
>>
>>97946435
nta but they basically flipped that setting on its head
everything about 40k is the opposite of that setting. The only thing ripped off is the fact termites look like Eldar and even use similar symbols.
>>
>>97946441
>nta but they basically flipped that setting on its head
It's a setting where a dead religious dictator exerts maniac control on the xenophobic terran empire via his ghost. What part was flipped on its head? I'm happy to talk this over but can you confirm you have actually read Nemesis in its entirety first?
>>
>>97946468
I'll take that as a no.
>>
>>97946452
The Imperium are the good guys and the demons and aliens are the bad guys, its not hard to understand you room temperature iq redditor tranny.
>>
>>97946364
40K was LOTR, Starship Troopers, Dune, Rome Empire, Crusades, and other Historic War/battles as well as other media over time. (Genestealers being from Alien, Orks being from soccer fans and all and the Dark Eldar from DND and BDSM.)

Where has this meme come from?
>LOTR
What?
>>
>>97946490
i kinda hate how people say orks are inspired by le hooligans. Its kinda not 100% correct.
Let me explain. Eldar and Orks are very obviously Tolkien creatures. The Orcs in LotR also talk with cockney accents in the books.
Also Deldar are inspired by the movie Dark City and Hellraiser.
>>
>>97946507
From the literal creator Rick Priestly
>>
>>97946512
Which was inspired by BDSM and other kink shit. The whole sex and pain gimmick.
>>
>>97946364
40k is a ripoff of Laserburn.
>>

Post your models.
>>
>>97946477
>Imperium are the good guys
>>
>>97946673
Yes, thats literally the point. In Nemesis the Warlock the Termites are portrayed unambiguously as evil racist catholic kkk stand ins. Persecuting innocent aliens and demons.
The entire thing is a very blatant political satire critical of extreme conservatism of the time.

40k flips this on the head. The Imperium are the goods guys and are justified in their fight against evil aliens and demons.

Hell the termites are visually represented by the Eldar in 40k and Chaos is unambiguously evil. So its a complete inversion
>>
>>97946512
I think what we're seeing is an interesting time capsule of societal attitudes. Tolkien's orcs are, I think, surprisingly close to how, say, Dickens handles the Lower Orders (fond of drink, not nice or 'genteel', maybe quick to anger but ultimately deferential), also close to inter- and post-war films. This is also the view of a privileged Officer class in both cases.
Fast forward to the late 1980s and we get a slightly different view of the same people, though of course their society has also changed somewhat. If I really wanted to stretch even more, I think I could even analogise how Samwise as a symbol of the loyal, uncomplaining aspect of the same types became, perhaps, Jurgen/Baldrick, a smelly dullard with a sideline in "don't ask where it came from", but this is already getting into literary analysis levels of pretentious masturbation.
>>
>>97946705
If you read Tolkien's letters you can understand what he thinks an orc is, he uses the term multiple times to refer to violent uncouth belligerent men prone to war and cruelty. Its not a social class thing, he refers to the nazis as orcs, he refers to the soviets as orcs for persecuting the germans, he refers to apartheid as run by orcs.
>>
>>97946364
hot take
>>
>>97946364
does that mean the Sisters of Battle are the...Spice girls?
>>
>>97946711
Basically they're just humans/elves/whatever the gimmick was corrupted into just a race of warring bandits and raiders. Shocking it not like it wasn't spelled out for years before everyone had to push that "NO ALL X" and people took those fags seriously. (Mind you, as soon as it doesn't become useful they're quick to push everything based on race. Especially against white men.)
>>
>>97946695
Doesn't Nemesis end with Purity saying "fuck both of you, you care more about your personal grudges and desires than any ideology" to both Torquemada and Nemesis?

Bro there are entire arcs in Nemesis that follow Torquemada as the protagonist. There's a whole fucking book about his soap opera family. YOU clearly have not read it, which is why you freaked the fuck out and started ranting about leftists when you got asked if you had.

Frank got to a certain stage where he couldn't write a book without horny murder women. And also some stuff about how fags were destructive but dykes were based IIRC.
>>
>>97946940
Armies are mostly made up of men, what better way to humiliate them then have them get their shit pushed in by bitches. Plus warrior muscle mommies is a based fetish.
>>
>>97947089
40k barely registers as genre fiction, it's more of the blurb you print on the back of the action toy box.
>>
>>97947554
This is offensive to GI.Joe, it has a rather detailed lore.
>>
>>97947648
I know, but I couldn't find a toyline as low effort as 40k.
>>
>>97946364
Heinlen invented the word "Space Marine".
Dune is where they got the "God-Emperor" motif, and the Sisters of Battle (via the Fishspeakers) and also lasguns.

40k ripped off and/or took 'inspiration' from loads of sources.
I can only think of the Invincible comic that did that to Marvel and DC characters to the level 40k did. Invincible at least justified it's ripping off of Marvel/DC characters as being "parodies" of them.
I think 40k essentially did that in the early days.

>spice marines
Has that joke become a meme among the Dune/40k community about the Dune stuff?

Also melee armoured fighters in space are a thing I love.
Pic related is one of my favourites.
>>
>>97946364
The armors look ass, specially the freemen, I bet it was done with """AI""".
Why are scifi armors so ugly and uncool?
>>
Stuff I can think off the top of my head that 40k took from Dune:
>Imperium
>God Emperor
>God Emperor's grand plan for humanity
>Navigators
>Oracular Tarot (not Herbert's creation, but still)
>All female army of the God Emperor's fanatics
>AI verboten
>"Lasguns"
>Orders Famulous are Bene Gesserit rip-offs
>Galaxy-spanning, genocidal Jihad/Crusade
>>
>>97946940
Leto II's explanation was something about how male-dominated armies are inherently rapacious and not suited for long-term peacekeeping. Fish Speakers functioned more like a para-military police force than an actual army.
>>
>>97947107
>xenophobic
>[irrelevant nonsense]
how exactly does any of that make them not xenophobic?
>>
>>97948519

>>

>>
>>97948989
lol, because female cops are famously known for their self-control.
>>
>>97949614
Which one are you referring to?
The OVA?
The OVA kept the PanzerGrenadier designs quite well even by animation standards of a series as long as LOGH was.
If you're referring to DNT, they got rid of it and have "hardsuits" instead.
Basically mini mechs.
I do like the Fujisaki manga Rosenritter armour.
>>97949662
>All good writers were plagiarists
Alright how do I safely make my own Tabletop IP through ripping off stuff with slight modifications and not get thrown in the slammer for copyright issues?
>>
>>97949709
It wasn't about self-control of individuals, but how the sexes are differently motivated. Males are biologically prone to aggression and expansion. Without any external enemies to fight, a male army eventually try its hand at revolution.
>>
Dune is stupid because "oh they survive in a desert so they are automatically the best and most invincible in the universe"
>>
How extensive are biosystems/genetor tech with Admech? Can they make stuff close to space marines?
>>
>>97949965
Why is that stupid?
>>
>>97946435
Nü40k has really lost touch with this over the top humor.

>>
>>97949965
It isn’t, though. If you read the book you’d know that the Fremen had to be taught by Jessica to use the weirding way. Furthermore, it’s stated that the Sardaukar had grown complacent over the years.
>>
>>97946368
Having seen 40k since the 90's I'll say this. If they could get away with it, they will.
You should google all the copyrights lawsuits claimed against GW over 40k, you'll understand then.
>sued by creators of Alien, among others
>>
>>97946364
Given this appears to be only the movie designs, I really wonder who the fuck this guy was putting 3rd, 2nd and 1st if the Fremen are just in 4th place.

Watching the fights in Dune made me realize how superior 40k is. Dumbest shit I've seen, doesn't even look cool in the slightest, and the supposed most elite soldiers in the universe (sardaukar) are like kung fu extras goobers. And that's without even following the accurate lore of needing to do slow attacks to get through the shields, imagine how much dumber that would look than it already does.
>>
>>97946364
I never understood why the fremen were so highly regarded. Their whole thing is they learned to live on the most inhospitable planet imaginable, which is awesome. But take them off Arakkis and...what? They suddenly become apex cyberninjas? I know in the books they take to the Weirding Way, but so do plenty of others. Paul and Jessica are really the only people to wield it to its utmost limits.
>>
>>97955081
Like the sardaukar who also come from a particular death world environment, it's the harshness of it that made them just universally good soldiers. Like the mongols, they were peak on the steppes, doesn't mean they weren't amazing outside that environment, they conquered a giant empire after all.
>>
>>97955081
>but so do plenty of others
Other than the Bene Gesserit, not really. At least not at that point in the story.
